Horrible tonight. Started calling for take out at 4:30. Several attempts before I received a ring. Busy signal for a good ten minutes each time. They answer, put you on hold and then after 4 or 5 minutes you are disconnected. This happened twice at 4 pm on dec 23. I ordered pizza and a salad for delivery from this restaurant to my hotel. The pizza was barely warm and although the salad was good the pizza was just fair. Probably would've been better if it was hot. Maybe in the restaurant you'll have a better experience than I did. read more

This place was fine... I thought it was odd that when we entered and I told the host that we had five people, she had a slight "deer-in-the-headlights" look and walked away from us without saying a word (presumably to ask someone where to seat us??), then came back and brought us to a table. If it was crowded, I would've understood a host feeling overwhelmed, but there seemed to be plenty of tables available. (This was a Wednesday evening around 5pm). This place and its owners have been a part of my life since I was seven years old! Hands down the best pizza Ive ever had to this day and I am 55 now! We have seen only a few changes to this little place in all those years! Its small, busy, and sometimes a little wait but so, totally worth it! Pizza is amazing but so is everything else! Pasta, salads, sandwiches, Chicken Livers (the only place I will ever eat liver of any kind) mushrooms are to die for! This is the whole package! I liked the very thin crust texture but wished it had been tastier They have been in business for decades so I'm sure the locals find them to be the best. You can't stay in business otherwise. The pizza is OK, nothing special. My veggie with no black olives arrived with soggy crust and quite a bit of black olives. The delivery minimum is ridiculous, it's more than the cost of one pizza, so you are forced to get either a large pizza or more than 1 just to meet the minimum. Gabatoni's used to half cook the sausage and then cook it through on the pizza which made them the best in town hands down. They stopped doing it that way and now it is still good pizza but just not great pizza. I can remember getting so excited when mom would pick up the phone and call in an order for the greasy goodness. We would pull up to the drive through and she would let me hold the hot delight on my lap. It was served in white paper with a man on the paper holding a steaming hot pie! Ah the good ol days! On the rare nights when I was a kid that my father would let us sit in front of the tv all night and order food in, we almost always got Gabatoni's - it was as much of a treat as actually being allowed to watch tv. Very good pastas (I've always been partial to their lasagna, my sister, the ravioli) and thin crust pizzas. The standout feature of the pizza is the crust - cracker thin and very tasty. It is really hard to stop eating it, as it is rather light for pizza. Of special note - while I generally don't enjoy sausage on pizza, the sausage at Gabatoni's is very, very good and, my stepmother tells me, home made. Ask my pants how much I like this pizza, go ahead... they'll tell you what I'm too embarrassed to - that I like it so much I generally have to unbutton them before I'm done. This is a family owned pizzeria. Been established for 50+ years. We went from a recommendation from friends who felt this is the best tasting pizza in Springfield. We had a sausage pizza with vegetables. It was very bland. No flavors popping out. Super disappointing. I think there was no sauce or very very light on the sauce. I am only giving a 3 star review because the food is awesome, but the entrance, low ceilings and the way they pack you into the place is a death trap! The wait staff is wonderful and again, it's the best pizza, pasta and appetizers you could ask for, but for me, I was nervous about the inside of the place. This place is extremely over priced. I payed $13.48 for quite possibly the smallest pizza I've ever seen. When I picked my pizza up after the 25 minutes they told me it would take to prepare, it was already cold. They took my credit card and had me wait 10 minutes before I could finally sign the receipt and leave. The crust was greasy and partially burnt and the cheese had congealed. The staff was extremely warm and friendly. We had an half order of fried mushrooms, and they were plenty for two. The batter was really good and reminded me of fried chicken batter. It was delicious. For the entree, we had sausage,mushroom,onion and gr peppers. The crust was very crispy without being charred. The ingredients were plentiful and good quality. If you've ever had the chain pizza from Monical's, I'd say it's comparable, with Gabatoni's besting Monicals by just a bit. read more

Downtown Springfield shuts down on Sunday. Seriously, I couldn't even get room service in my hotel at 1 pm. So, my husband and I are spending a lazy, rainy Sunday in our hotel room and decide we need food. Now. This is a much harder task than you would think. Most delivery places have no website, or the ones that do, don't deliver to our downtown hotel. FINALLY, we click on a Gabatoni's menu and decide to place an order. Wow, $35 for a small pizza, some cheesy bread, and a few small wings? Oh well, desperate times call for desperate measures. The most positive thing was that the food was delivered about 20 minutes earlier than their estimate. Points in my book 'cause I was HUNGRY. The food was all just "meh". Not the absolute worst, but far, far from the best . Kind of a disappointment after having to work so hard to find a place to get food from, and all the decent reviews on yelp. This was a pleasant and wonderful shock when we walked in last Saturday. We were in town for an event taking place nearby. We had wonderful service, huge portions, and reasonable prices. We had the toasted ravioli (actual, breaded deep fried ravioli!), onion rings on a huge platter, Alfredo tortellini, SMALL chef salad that was more like a portion for three people, a cup of chili in a gigantic bowl, and a 7" pizza. Not going to lie, if you look at the building and the surrounding area, it's a little sketchy. However, the food and the service absolutely made up for it! Our waiter was fantastic and was able to get us the food in a hurry because we only had 45 minutes for lunch. We will definitely be returning and having more from their menu! read more

I was passing through Springfield on my Route 66 Trip. My brother told me about Gabatoni's. I am glad he did. I had the pizza and it was really good. The crust was very thin and crispy with just the right amount of brown around the edges. I had a sausage pizza and the sausage was very good. There was just the right amount of sauce and cheese for this thin crispy crust. The people were very nice. The place had an older look to it, but was very clean. Next time I'm in Springfield I will be stopping by here again! read more

I love the old school no pretense atmosphere and attitude about this place. The food is traditional, and really good. Pizza, pasta, tamales - yes tamales - hoagies, and 2 tvs in the oval shaped bar. The bar stools have backs! There are also a few salads on the menu. Tall tables in the bar to have food. Tables in the dining room are regular hardtops. The staff is friendly and helpful. And right now they've got lots of great Halloween decorations. read more

I lived here most of my life, and now come back once a year to visit friends, see the State Fair, and reminisce on some iconic Springfield foods to include Gabatoni's Pizza. My first Springfield pizza choice used to be Vic's, but after their closing, Gabatoni's is mow my #1 choice. Tonight we got the extra large sausage, mushroom, onion, and green,pepper as we have on the past, and it was horrible. The only thing familiar to me was the crust. There was hardly any of that sweet tomato garlic sauce. There were barely any ingredients other than onion. The cheese had an odd rubbery texture, almost making me think it was fake cheese. Overall everything tasted very bland. Even my local friends I stay with agreed the pizza was not up to what we all remember. To the owners, stick with the quality ingredients you used to use, and make sure your pizza makers know what they're doing. I'll be back next year to try again with hope it's the pizza I remember. read more

This place is AMAZING!!! Their pizza is sooooo good an addicting! They have been here for many years and well deserved. The must orders are EBA, toasted ravoli, and their garlic bread! I have never dinned in the restruant so i can't speak on the svc inside or how clean it is but i can say when I have called in they were always friendly and my order is always at my house when they say it will be there. Out of all the years i ordered from them my order was never incorrect which says a lot about a company. We had a later lunch there so we had the whole place to ourselves. I'd love to go there at a busier time to see this place in action. I loved the atmosphere, very nice and clean. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful with the menu since it was our first time there. The food was hot and steaming when it arrived at our table. Everything was perfect. I had the overstuffed beef ravioli and it was spectacular. The garlic bread had assorted spices and maybe a cheese on it and it was amazing. This is definitely a locally owned restaraunt that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for down home authentic Italian Cuisine. Don't let the appearance of this place fool you. I feel bad because this is a local business but I'm just being honest their pizza is mediocre. I've tried twice with the pizza and it's been blah. Tonight I tried their spaghetti, salad, and garlic bread. I live by there and just trying to go local but it was so mediocre! Honestly fazolis tastes better. Their spaghetti was awful, garlic bread wasn't good and I was just so disappointed. Like actually upset I spent the money on it, I would've been more satisfied with a frozen pizza. Well this is my second trip to Gabatonis in the past three weeks and service has not improved. We had reservations at 7:00 arrived 6:45 and finally were seated at 7:15.
