I've struggled with cystic hormonal acne and just acne in general for years. I finally got it under control, however, I had a lot of clogged pores and hyperpigmentation. One day, I decided to overuse a specific acne product and let's just say it didn't turn out well. Those specific spots I placed the product created a deep pitted lesion which is now classified as a "boxcar" scar. My skin was irritated, texture wasnt the best, and still had active acne. My self-esteem was torn and I needed help. I called and spoke to Lucas who wanted to help me and got me in at the earliest appointment. Upon arrival, the staff was accommodating and were so helpful, respectful, and personable. They collectively made the check-in/insurance process so easy. I met the Dermatologist and his assessment was clear, concise, and provided topical and oral medication the same day. I asked multiple meticulous questions and he elucidated educational responses. He prescribed me medication for the active and hormonal acne I had, and put me on a consistent facial basis. I noticed the biggest difference in the texture of my skin and my acne went down. As far as the lesions, they are still healing, but the deeply pitted hole I made in my skin is now a month away from being even with the rest of my skin. MIND YOU, this is just a month of treatment and I've noticed a 180. The facials were done by a marvelous woman who's in Medical School I think. She's skilled, knows her stuff, and provided excellent facials tailored to my skins needs. Overall, the staff blew me away and so did the dermatologist. I recommend this office to my family and friends and I honestly never want to go anywhere else--neither should you. read more

Do not go to this clown! Gabriel MarTinez.Diaz masquerades as a dermatologist. My daughter went there for an overall check. He spent two minutes did not perform any kind of evaluation just gave her a script for acne medication. When she went to the pharmacist to purchase it (and it was $90) she was told she would have to get a pre-authorization from the physician's office. She called the office and they said they would not give it to her unless she paid another $50 which is what they charge to give a pre-authorization!! This was just a money grab. So on top of the $90 prescription she was made to pay another $50 out of pocket to the office for them to do a pre-authorization! Not only was this clown dermatologist, unprofessional, dismissive, and rude, he is also a money grabber, charging to pre-authorize a prescription he actually prescribed! The "examination "which she had waited for an appointment for, took exactly 5 minutes. He did not do any kind of evaluation. He needs to be out of this business and reported to the medical licensure board. Nobody should go to him. Be warned. read more

Unfortunately had an emergency the day of the appointment, cancelled through ZocDoc and was still charged $175 for no-show and sent to collections. Seems they were eager to take the no-show fee when I called, but did not even offer a potential new appointment time. The doctor, as per the reviews, may be good for others who have seen them, unfortunately Esreal who works as the admin does not glean that same level of service. If you need an office who is flexible because life happens, this is not the place for you. read more

They basically charge you for breathing at this office. I see many folks talking about the $150 cancelation fee which is absurd especially with Covid and flu season. My insurance requested a letter from my Dr stating that they prescribed me a medication that cost $180 (that I could only purchase from their office-red flag). I called the office to request this document and was told there is a $45 "processing fee" to complete this request. Again the request is to obtain a 2 sentence letter stating the Dr prescribed me this medication. In addition to all the hidden fees the office staff and doctor are very rude, and I immediately felt unwelcome at the clinic. He barely listened to me when I spoke about my hair loss symptoms and instead tries to push acne treatment on me. The entire staff of this office has quit and they are unable to keep appointments, yet refuse to cancel them. I waited 90 minutes beyond my scheduled time and after not having been seen, expressed that I planned to leave. I was told that if I did so, I would be charged a cancellation fee. My experience here was decent enough, however, trust was broken and I have decided to terminate my relationship with this practice. As many others have stated the very unwelcoming front receptionist holds your credit card for the duration of your appointment and it is returned to you when you check out. I had an appointment scheduled for an acne facial on December 22, 2022 when there happened to be a major winter storm in Chicago with -40° windchill 60 mph winds and 6 to 12 inches of snow projected. After being out doing some last-minute Christmas shopping that day of course my phone battery died and I had no car charger with me, I actually had an eye doctor appointment scheduled for the next day which was canceled due to the weather. I could hear on the radio while driving that many businesses were closing early due to the weather. I wasn't sure if the dermatologist office was going to stay open, but I was headed for my appointment anyway, because I'm usually OK to drive in severe weather with my jeep. Of course, however, my car battery decided to die on this day of all days. I missed the appointment which was at 3:30 PM and by 415 when roadside rescue arrived and I was able to get a charge on my phone, the dermatologist office had already charged my card a $150 missed appointment fee. Remember, there is a major blizzard happening right now, no one at the office is curious to know if I'm OK or if there is a significant reason for the missed appointment, they just charged my card, which, by the way, I did not authorize. I had placed this card on file maybe a few months prior and only one time because my flexible spending card was missing at the time. I had previously used my flexible spending card as the card that I would allow the receptionist to hold during my appointments because quite honestly I was not comfortable with the practice of giving someone my credit card for an extended period of time. The flexible spending card clearly would not allow a missed appointment fee to be charged to it so these good folks took it upon themselves to go back and find a credit card that I had on file in the past to charge this $150 fee to. It was at this moment that I knew I could do no further business with this place. How dare they store customer credit card information? I was never informed that they keep a history of every card customers leave with the receptionist? That particular Mastercard was only used once, maybe a minimum of 3 months prior. I did not dispute the fee. I simply sent an email requesting that all future appointments be canceled, and I have not returned since and will not return. The location of this place cannot even support something like a $150 cancellation fee. It is in the west loop in a basement. My new dermatologist is on the magnificent mile with a view of beautiful Lake Michigan and their cancellation fee is $40. Go figure. I was scheduled for an consult this afternoon, but tested positive for COVID this morning. Naturally I called and left a voicemail at 8am explaining my situation and that I was hoping to reschedule the app to next week. I called back at 10am and was, no joke, told by receptionist Rian to come in to the office regardless of being sick with COVID, or incur a $150 cancelation fee. For a healthcare provider to put their patients and staff at risk like this is unbelievable, and borderline malpractice. I understand cancelation policies and fees but to force a sick patient to commute to their office in -10 degree weather is unreal. Reading through these reviews it's clear this place is a money racket and couldn't care less about patient care or safety. First, let's start with the fact that the front desk staff holds on to your credit card before you are allowed to go into your appointment. This doctor is completely shady. He insisted I have 1 syringe of restalyn under each eye. I have been getting fillers for 20 years and he completely overfilled my skin. My left eye had a purple bruise for weeks (I have the photos to prove it) and the filler was uneven. There's a big divet where he failed to apply restalyn under my right eye. When Dr. Martinez saw that my left eye was bruising he left the room for quite some time with very little communication and when it was time to pay my bill, my upfront deposit was never applied to the bill as I was told it was going to be. Honestly, I just wanted to leave the office as soon as possible as the vibe there is creepy. The vague pricing structure and lack of clear communication are intentional I'm certain. It's clear that it's all about money with Dr. Martinez. I left almost 2k poorer with a botch job. All you need to do is read the negative reviews here to tell you everything you need to know about his character. He sends long rebuttals to patients and could care less about anyone's feedback. I am now in the care of an outstanding dermatologist who had to remove some of my restalyn and told me that it was the worst botch job with a filler that she had seen in 15 years. Please save your time and money and go elsewhere. Dr. Martinez is an unethical nightmare. Don't book through Zoc-doc Friday-Sunday. I did not receive a confirmation, called the next morning (Monday) bc I had already booked with another doctor bc the email they sent after booking on Sunday said they could not confirm me. They refused to take back the $150 cancellation fee. They've treated way too many people unfairly with their unreasonable cancellation policy. Don't count on their reminders. I was looking forward to coming to this Dr as a first time patient. The morning of my appointment, I woke up with strep throat.I had to cancel and wanted to reschedule. It was great to see they had availability. When I went to reschedule, I couldn't because of cancellation fee I would need to pay prior to. The office lacked understanding and empathy when presented with my reason for cancel and insited the charge of $150 would have to remain. Had a procedure done here and was happy with the outcome. Weirdly, they charge you before any procedure is done which should have been a red flag. Booked a second appointment for another procedure and was aware of the steep $150 cancellation policy. Unfortunately, had a family emergency come up two states away that made me miss it. They charged me the fee as well as the 3% credit card fee on top of it. When I expressed my disappointment in charging a returning client (I would have eventually rebooked the appointment, so the office would still have received my business), they simply shrugged their shoulders and then reminded me they charge their clients a 3% credit card fee. I was pretty happy with my appointment here. Dr. Martinez-Diaz was friendly and most importantly, he addressed my concerns regarding the regimen another derm had given me. He understood that my skin concerns were frustrating and gave me a regimen with more potency than what the other derm had given me. Like my original review, my follow-up here is for other Yelpers. After posting my review, Dr. Martinez Diaz called me twice on two consecutive evenings. I was working and didn't answer, and no VM was left. He then sent a threatening email about my "negative and harmful" review: "If I don't hear from you tonight, I am going to proceed with the assumption that you don't wish to resolve things directly. Thus, I will proceed with my plan of action, which may involve legal action." This is an incredibly aggressive response to a factual Yelp review; truth and opinion are not defamation. I'm close with many doctors, including some in private practice, and this is not how they work. There are two claims in Dr. Martinez Diaz's reply I'd like to address. (1) For what it's worth, I still can't find any follow-up emails from M D Aesthetics and Dermatology, although they did send me a nice birthday email two weeks ago. (2) Dr. Martinez Diaz wrote I had called to cancel my appointment. I was calling to reschedule, which they said was no problem. I only cancelled once I learned they did not have the lasers. This is the first office I have ever felt addressed all dimensions of my acne and how it affects me. My appts have always been professional, clear, respectful of my time to be punctual, and icing on the cake is that MY SKIN IS GLOWING. I've finally broken up with my lifelong relationship with hormonal acne and couldn't be happier. My skin is break-out free, and Dr took steps to explain how we can now tackle the texture and scarring leftover. Amazing. So, the results are here, the professionalism is here, and to be honest, I feel so much better about visiting Doc here because he is genuine. 5 stars for Dr. Martinez-Diaz. 1 star for ZocDoc and the people at the front desk, who seem confused. I'm a millennial, and I'm very comfortable with booking appointments online, filling out online forms...basically doing everything on my phone. Zocdoc is truly a nightmare. Per MD Derm's request, I went online and booked my appointment through ZocDoc. Then I filled out all of my medical history, contact info, etc. through the platform. That seemed really convenient, because it's always easier to look up your primary doc's phone numbers, the address of your pharmacy, etc. when you're not in a waiting room somewhere trying to find it all on your phone. So. Great. Then I get an email from MD asking me to scan my insurance card and send it to them, which is totally fine. But they also want a bunch of info I've already put into Zocdoc. Annoying, but whatever. Then I get to MD. After checking me in, I get handed an iPad, where I'm asked to put in all that info...yet again. Since I'd gotten a bunch of texts from Zocdoc, I quickly perused them-- and, indeed, the most recent text read "Your info has been sent to your healthcare provider. Just remind the office that you completed your forms online through Zocdoc!" So I reminded them. And that's when the staff told me that, unfortunately, their system doesn't communicate with Zocdoc, so I'd have to do it all again. One of the questions asked me to find my pharmacy...on a map of the entire United States. I was so irritated with the system that I almost walked out. And I wasn't the only one. While I was waiting, two more irked patients stood there and tried to explain that they'd already done all of their paperwork, and felt like re-doing it was a waste of time. So, I wish this place would either ditch Zocdoc, or figure out how to use it for something besides its booking feature. But whatever-- fast forward to my actual appointment. I really liked Dr. Martinez Diaz, who was efficient, friendly, competent, and didn't judge me for my poor sunscreen vigilance. He gave me some helpful tips, and gave me a clear explanation of my diagnosis and treatment options. I would 100% recommend him. I've already booked my follow-up appointment. Unfortunately I have to add on to other reviews about Dr. Martinez-Diaz handling of cancelled appointments. My experience prior to this was perfectly fine. I received the medications I needed quickly and efficiently without any issues. Extenuating circumstances arose, and I needed to cancel my upcoming appointment. I was charged a $154 cancellation fee, per their policy. This is a terrible shock to a person's finances, therefore I reached out via email to see if there was a possibility for an exception (doesn't hurt to ask, as they say) and was met with a cold and very unreasonable response from Dr. Martinez-Diaz followed by silence. I truly understand the need for such policies. But.. that large of a sum from my pocket into that of medical practice that was rude to me about the unfortunate situation on top of it all, still stings even weeks later. Truthfully, I do not believe I would be one bit as upset had their fee been $50 for a first-time transgression. I wish there was a way to convey compassion to this practice so that they would reconsider their policy for future patients, and allow for the possibility that life sometimes happens. EDIT: Dr. Martinez-Diaz's office has responded to me below. I very intentionally chose not to identify myself via name or further details, as I have noted their obviously vindictive behavior and threats for legal action towards other reviews. I don't believe this discredits what I've written. They continue with their boilerplate copy regarding cancellations, neglecting any of the points raised by myself or other reviews. Agree with most the reviews (which I so wish I saw beforehand): Dr. Martinez-Diaz not once examined my face for any improvements with the powerful medications he was prescribing me, was in & out within a couple minutes, and was completely affectless in charging a $150 cancellation fee as a result of a misstep in process on their part. Really sloppy and shady business, and worst patient 'care' I've ever received. Regret not listening to others who were already suspicious why certain cosmetic treatments are broadly being considered 'covered' by health insurance at his office. I didn't plan this to happen I was looking forward to my appointment but all I got is that's the rule and they won't work with a person to reschedule this will be the last time I go there. UPDATE: After my original review below, I realized that my prescription has gotten cancelled. The next couple of days I received a letter in the mail regarding the doctor/patient relationship termination along with 3 copies of my review on Google!!! I was shocked so I called the Dr. to talk to him about this. He basically said that he has cancelled my prescription and sent me the letters just because of my review on Google! He also threatened me that if I update my review and my experience with the public, he will fight me with his lawyers. Yes, this is how Dr. Martinez handled my criticism. I think it's not fair to charge your patients and just cancel the prescription just because you didn't like their review. There're other ways to resolve the criticism. P.S. After I left the room I realized that he also forgot to give me prescription for Dr.'s recommended pill for my hair. So as soon as he got back to the office, I tried to ask him about it but he ignored me in front of all other patients and said he needs to take care of another patient. I felt horrible! I arrived 10 minutes early for the appointment and waited for​ at least the equivalent outside. * It was in the 20's temperature wise and very windy, so I decided to leave after waiting outside and not hearing from the office staff * I received a phone call several minutes later to return or I would receive a $150 cancellation fee * I was no longer in the area and parking there is difficult so rescheduling was the only option * I attempted to reschedule but could only reschedule if I paid the cancellation fee of $150 * Also, I left a text message through the intercom system that I was there and waiting outside. That was my experience with Dr. Martinez-Diaz' office. I placed a complaint with Aetna my insurance, Dr. Martinez-Diaz is a "Preferred Provider" and the reason I decided to schedule originally. read more

Where do I begin, My husband and I both decided we wanted to see a local dermatologist in our neighborhood and booked appointments a half an hour apart. As we walked in and were greeted by the front desk, I knew we were in trouble when they had no record of his appointment, but he had a confirmation email to prove he had scheduled one. Luckily they were still able to see us both, which is the only good thing I have to say. After walking in the door from work and being a new customer, I knew it would be a minute before being seen. I began by asking where the bathroom was, which was then given the response that, "It was under construction, and I could go across the street to the corner cafe." I replied, Morgan Street Cafe? Which I then said, was closed.I got no response. I know their staff doesn't go outside of the building to go to the restroom. Then I proceeded to ask how much the appointment would cost me, which I was then again met with a blank stare and no response. At this point I'm annoyed, and I stick with my appointment because I was already there and why not. I'm a local, I like to support local business, which is what I'm telling myself. As we are now ready to be seen, I go into the room with my husband. He's going through the initial questions, when I was then asked to go into a separate room for my visit, with absolutely no reason as to why. The office closes at 6:30pm, I don't understand how they couldn't see us back to back in the same room, when literally all the doctor did was just walk down the hall into my room to see me. I found this very unaccommodating. Lastly, what really got me was how expensive my "office visit" was for the most terrible office visit I've ever had! It really should have been a consultation, because Gabriel saw what I had, gave me two to three options, and then sent me on my way. I paid $118.00 dollars for literally a two minute visit filled with one and a half minutes of small talk, and thirty seconds of what I was really there for. read more

His office is modern and clean, and booking appointments with him via ZocDoc makes it very easy to schedule time with him. I found Dr. Gabe from Zocdoc. My eczema has gotten pretty bad and he was the only doctor that has flexibility in appointments time. He performed a biopsy on me immediately upon seeing the area of problem and I have to say how grateful I am that he did that because not only I will no other issue of my skin that is not visible to the eye, but it also provides a good context in terms of medication that will work going forward. The office was very clean, well kept and the office staff was VERY friendly which made me feel appreciated. After Dr. Gabe confirmed my eczema, I proceed by asking him some questions around wrinkles and what the treatment options are. He was SO caring, knowledgeable, patience and overall made me feel safe to receive treatment. I decided to go for Dysport and filler that same day bc of how thorough and caring his explanation was! Pain was very minimal, no major bruising or complications. Three days post Dysport - (me being impatience) and noticing very little improvement. I contacted Dr. Gabe via Instagram and he responded in literally in a minute! First, I just wanted to say how good that makes me feel as I am sure as a doctor he must have gotten "how soon will it work" question a billion times. His response was straight to the point and very accommodating. Now its been 14 days post-Dysport and filler and I can tell you all that this is the person I will be going to comes liquid facelift and other skincare concern. I still look natural without the overdone look and overall very happy with the process, the customer service, and the treatment. This review is aimed at my fellow baby-boomers. Dr. Martinez-Diaz can take maybe 20 years off your face without the worry of surgery going badly and looking like, well, like you've had at least one too many rounds of cosmetic surgery. He can restore your appearance without making you look like you're trying to look like your kids. First - schedule with his front desk, not Zocdoc. I'm a very petite 73 year old woman. Over the years, I've lost almost all the fat in my face leaving me with hollowed out sunken cheeks and some distressingly deep facial lines. I was starting to resemble a lithograph of Medusa that I have and was scaring myself. I sheepishly emailed Dr. Martinez-Diaz's office (it felt too embarrassing to call with such a vain concern at my age). I promptly got a call back from the young person in reception who kindly reassured me that I was not being silly and that Dr. Martinez-Diaz could help non-surgically. When I met Dr. Martinez-Diaz, I explained what I hoped for and stressed that I didn't want to have to deal with annual or even bi-annual maintenance. I didn't want a sudden drastic change, just not to startle myself every time I looked in a mirror that would fade slowly over time. He said he could do that and carefully explained how. I recently finished the treatment plan -- and he did exactly what he said he could. I am thrilled with the results. Genuinely one of the worst experiences I've had with a medical professional. He acted like all my questions were stupid, rushed me impatiently through the process (literally 5 min and left at one point during that time after giving me a pamphlet to read), and said that if I don't go on a certain medication it would be "wasting his time".
