I never leave reviews on yelp, but I left this appointment traumatized and have been trying to figure out where to start. This practice's lack of consideration for timeliness is actually the best part. When I arrived and checked in, I could hear the obnoxious manager talking badly about a patient to someone and then berating someone else. Then after the assistant came to get me well past my scheduled time and left the room, I could actually HEAR her and doctor making fun of a patient's skin complaint, appearance, and demeanor outside of the room. Im sure about this because it went on for several minutes though I can't be sure they were talking about me. However I'm assuming I was the patient they were mocking because they walked in immediately after, and this was extremely hurtful as my condition is something I'm very insecure about. Then they came into my room all friendly as if they hadn't been badmouthing me moments before. I naturally felt very uneasy and to make matters worse in the 3 minutes that the doctor was in the room he was dismissive and arrogant and didn't even take the time to explain a thing to me. Dr. Mastro was good when I saw him, but unfortunately the office is far too difficult to work with. I needed a prescription refilled for a maintenance medication after having seen the doctor twice, and was told I needed to see the doctor despite it having been less than a year since my last visit (and when I was only given 2 refills to begin with). When I asked why this was the case, I was told by Ali that it was a requirement of my insurance. From previous experience, it is not, so I'm not sure why they would say this. In addition to the indifférent (not properly traîned) office staff, sadly inadéquate response by phone (you can't reach anyone in person to talk about anything), by submitting a form, or by USPS. They are non-responsive and I keep wondering what I'd have done if there had been a recurrence of my mélanoma. Both Washington St and Halsted St clinics equally unreliable. Shrewdly have no email so they don't have to deal with that at all. But patients have no recourse either. Very very very poor experience. Dr Lewitt is rude and thinks the world owes him a favor for being a doctor. He literally told me "you are paying for my half a million dollar worth of education". He ran through my diagnosis in a flash and it left me feeling discontent. Grade: C- Doctor. F Human. The back office staff really treat you poorly. They are not professionals. I have a very serious skin situation, I spent 6 hours in the emergency room two days ago. I was told that I need to see my dermatologist, so I made an appointment for tomorrow. I was told that I needed a referral from my primary, had an appointment today to get the referral. Called Illinois Dermatology Institute a couple hours after my appointment today to make sure they received my referral. They said they did, however Dr. Andrew doesn't accept my insurance, the only doctor that does is not available. They claimed that they left me a message saying they canceled my appointment, which is a lie. I'm in sooooo much pain and discomfort, I need to see a dermatologist to get a prescription, this is literally an emergency, and those employees over there don't care at all. So now I'm scrambling to find a new dermatologist to send the referral to so I can be seen to alleviate my pain. This establishment is very unprofessional, insensitive, and untruthful. read more

PA Mastro is a real gem. I'm writing this review in response to some negative reviews I have seen that are completely unfounded. If you need to get in touch with your dermatologist you call the front desk. If the front desk happens to not answer due to being busy or not their business hours then you can leave a message and call back later. Simple, though these are not issues I have ever encountered. I have been seeing PA Mastro for a year and a half and my skin thanks me for it. I have so much more confidence now and I enjoy all of the staff I have interacted with. They are transparent and open to any questions you have or procedures you would like to explore. I highly recommend this office! read more

I came in with a case of perioral dermatitis which I already was pretty sure I had based off my own research. I wanted to see the doctor to confirm this and get the best possible care for it. After waiting 20 minutes past my appointment time, the doctor comes in to see me for not even literally longer than 3 minutes. He tells me I do have it, he doesn't know what caused it or what can prevent it from coming back, writes me a prescription. The appointment is $130. The cream he prescribed me was $200. I researched that there are OTC alternatives to the same cream for much cheaper. Waste of money and time and I feel they should be more transparent about what care costs are not covered. read more

Medical care is fine, bedside manner is...lacking at best. After having a spot removed from my arm, I was concerned about the way the scar looked and felt. Dr. Lewitt literally said to me, "well, it's not like you were going to become an arm model anyway," before repeatedly, and each time more aggressively, asking what I wanted him to do about it. When I didn't have the answer to how to fix it (I'm not the doctor, sir, you are...) he told me that I was frustrating him. I was intimidated and embarrassed. Later on, I found that he put in the notes "patient was difficult." Patients come to doctors for help, not to be made to feel badly for asking for help when things aren't right. I wouldn't feel comfortable asking questions or raising my concerns with him in the future. Go elsewhere, and find someone who provides the "care" part of healthcare. read more

Updating my review - still five stars! This time I saw Andrew for a mole check. He has such a pleasant bedside manner. He spent time discussing any questions I had and explained what he was doing every step of the way. He had to do a biopsy on the back of my upper thigh and he was extremely communicative throughout the process, letting me know every step of step of the way where he was placing his hands and what he was doing. I went in for a yearly skin check. Instead of billing it as a yearly skin check, they billed it as an office visit, which means I had to pay for it instead of being fully covered by insurance. After 3 months of back and forth calls, they told me "other things" were discussed so it couldn't be billed as a yearly skin check. When I asked what "other things" were discussed, I was told that the provider looked at the site from a mole she had removed the previous year. It had keloided slightly. Dr. Lewitt. Is. Amazing!!!! I was recommended to visit Dr. L for some forehead wrinkles I had been complaining about to my hair stylist/makeup artist/spray tanner( this woman does it all), Lindsey. Oh and Lindsey also works at Dr. Lewitt's Office. Insane. Anyway, I trust her with just about all things beauty, so I thought I'd give him a try. The office is immaculately clean, conveniently located by the Macy's on State St (or right off the red line L), and aside from admitting to my now NOT so wrinkly forehead (which doesn't cost a fortune like most med spas/cos surgeons quoted me at), he removed the bump on my nose from my nose ring, gave me skin care treatment for the clogged pores under my eyes, and a body check. Wouldn't introduce himself to me, let alone shake my hand. Very bad first impression for someone you are trusting with your health. Literally this was the wildest introduction a doctor has ever made. I politely said "You must be Dr. Lewitt!". His response "Yes, well I am the one with the coat aren't I...". Made zero effort to introduce himself, I told him my name was Grant and he smirked at me. I made it very clear that I still had unanswered questions about my treatment and he left and sent back in an assistant who said my appointment was over... Not a very polite, courteous, or thoughtful doctor. His explanations are short and he is looking at the clock the whole time. I found this office through Yelp when I moved to Chicago and Dr. Lewitt has changed my life!! I have suffered with severe psoriasis for over six years now, and no doctor was ever able to help me. Other doctors gave me creams that never worked and told me I would just have to live with it because my insurance was not going to cover the medication I really needed. Not Dr. Lewitt! Him and his staff worked tirelessly to get me the medicine I needed, battling back and forth with my insurance company for months. I am now about 6 months into treatment and my psoriasis is fully cleared. I could not be happier, he really cares about his patients. He is an interesting doctor, friendly and approachable. His treatment has been working for me. He seemed to care about his patients. I always book appointments for lunch time, the only downside of that is it gets busy during that hour and that adds up the waiting time. Sometimes when it gets very busy, the wait time will take around 25 to 35 minutes. They could add some fun elements in the waiting room for people who have to wait for a long period of time. For example, they could play some stand up comedian video clips in the waiting room or some funny youtube videos, or some cute puppy videos. I know people tends to get nervous when they have to visit doctors or they gets bored while waiting..so ... you know just a suggestion :) Overall, he is a helpful doctor. This was my first visit ever to a dermatology office. As you could only imagine I was nervous, scared and intimidated. I didn't know what to expect or how to embrace this unfamiliar unknown territory. The office is very nice and the receptionist greeted me as soon as I walked in. I recommend filling out the paperwork they send you ahead of time, it wasn't a lot but did allow me to be seen almost immediately on arrival. The intern or resident, who got me in a room and took my history/why I was there was great (I unfortunately didn't get her name) and that took only a few minutes. I waited maybe 2 minutes and Dr. Andrew Michael Mastro came in and addressed my concerns, checked other things as he went, and provided the services I was hoping for as well as letting me know some other options. Great visit and I will definitely be back again! Very professional. Friendly demeanor staff. He made me feel like I had nothing to worry about, while giving me my results. That's one of things I look for when visiting somewhere I've never been. He treats you like a friend you've known for years and that brings comfort as a patient. This was a very odd response to get from a medical professional. I knew for a fact my insurance did not require me to pay this copay, but since she was so bothered, I offered her to bill my insurance, to which she responded "I don't know how to do that." Interesting, last time I checked this was a medical office, after all. Once she completely began to ignore eye contact all together, I offered to triple check with my insurance as a courtesy TO THEM even though I was certain of my situation. She basically shrugged and I saw myself out. I got to my car, called my insurance and they verified that I did NOT need to pay a copay. I decided to courtesy call back to tell her, so I dial the number. It rings, and rings, and rings, and rings. Eventually she picks up and goes "hello?" In an annoyed tone. Yes, I am one of those that depend on Yelp reviews but rarely write one, however, folks in the Loop need to know this is a great dermatologist! My husband and I had to change Drs due to insurance. I read the reviews, good and bad (more about those later) and chose to see Dr Lewitt. I highly recommend Dr Lewitt. He was exceptionally knowledgable, thoroughly (and I mean thoroughly) examined us, found areas of concern and explained treatment with options. Of course I went home and researched everything he found/treatments (I always do this) and he was spot on...no pun intended. My husband and I were quite impressed with Dr Lewitt. Additionally, his assistant and staff were attentive, courteous and very helpful. To the reviewer that has the wrong Dr and office, if you are taking the time to review at least take the same amount of time to ensure you have the right Dr and location...shame on you and Yelp for not correcting. To the prescription issue reviewer, I wish all my Drs would help me reduce the cost of my scripts, or at least try. I have since switched to a different practice, and I'm writing this review about two years after my last appointment, because I've realized after seeing another dermatology office that my experience here was fairly unpleasant. This first time I came to the office, I had a list of things I wanted to talk to the doctor about. I hadn't been to the dermatologist office in a while, and I'm pretty freaked out by doctors in general. I was literally shaking while telling the medical assistant the questions I had and why I came in. She snapped at me once I was done, and said you are going to need to pick just a few things to focus on today. The questions I had were pretty minor like "can he take a look at this skin tag" etc. When the doctor came in, he did encourage me to ask all my questions, but I felt pretty shaken up about the whole thing.
