I'll be switching practices. I like the dermatologists but it's impossible to get ahold of a human if you try calling this office. I called at 2pm Friday (3 hours before they closed) again at 4pm Friday, no one has bothered to call back to tell me what pharmacy my prescription was sent to. Online portal doesn't let you email your physician. What's the point of establishing care if you can't get ahold of them and they don't return calls in a timely manner? read more

Had a slightly better average experience with Dr. Sarah Kasprowicz for a dermatology concern. The office is in River North and I found a parking garage that was a block away. The waiting area and offices I sat in were clean and quiet. The front office staff were kind and due to my tricky insurance, were willing to document and ensure that necessary documentation was submitted prior to proceeding with my appointment instead of saying "well just wait for your bill." The worst of the experience was interacting with the nurse prior to meeting with Dr Kasprowicz. The nurse was already typing what she "thought" I was going to say before I had spoken. I had her read the notes back to me and had to correct what she had written. I get it, nurses are overwhelmed, but it put me on guard a bit. I made the nurse correct things and had to review what was re-written. When I met with Dr Kasprowicz, she was thorough in discussing the concern and discussed treatment options. We decided to conduct an in office procedure. Dr Kasprowicz was quick, but when I was having a minor complication with the procedure, she said, "what are you on *specific medication*", indicating that she did not read my medications in my chart. I wasn't on that medication, but that comment didn't sit well with me. I don't know if it was her or the nurse who didn't review that part. Dr Kasprowicz's other thoroughness made up for this comment. I'll go back here since my insurance is accepted here, but if I do hear of a better dermatologist, I'm open to trying them as well. read more

It's hilarious how you schedule an appointment at these places and then these people make you wait 45 minutes. Then come in high and mighty talking down at you like they're saving lives, which is certainly not the case. Then I walk out and ask the front desk point blank what do I owe you. I pay a 110 dollar co pay thinking oh well . Am later billed 400 dollars. All for a treatment that took about 15 minutes of this man's time. Oh and it did not work. No issues with staff and appointment, but the greedy policies broke me. After taking my 3-year-old in to have a long-lasting face blemish looked at, I was given 3 options: 1. Do nothing (not really an option) 2. Use a cautery tool on his face which could leave scarring and may not be ideal for his age or 3. A laser treatment. Great, is he a good candidate? How expensive is it? How many treatments? Sorry that information is only given at a $200 consultation appointment. Same practice, same office, but the safest, obvious treatment path we won't even discuss without being paid...again. Gross. Best case scenario (for them) is that I'm just blissfully unaware and this is industry standard. read more

I was recommended to Dr. Neill Peters by my Primary Care Physician. I always trust her judgement and she was spot on with this doctor and this practice. I love the location, set on a side street of River North. There was easy street parking, which I love. There is also great coffee shop on the lobby level of their cool warehouse building. The look and feel of the lobby and office is warm and cozy. While checking in, I noticed wicker lighting and soft white curtains on the floor to ceiling windows. The whole vibe gave me a feeling of medical doctor mixed with a spa. I only waited a couple of minutes and Victor, the PA, brought me back. We went over everything and Dr. Peter's came right in. They were both professional and gracious. Dr. Peter's is very knowledgeable and took his time with me. He asked a lot of questions and answered mine. He explained in detail every aspect of my care. He has a great skincare plan for me. I left feeling well cared for. I look forward to checking into their facial services soon. read more

I scheduled an appointment online, clearly indicating that I was seeking laser treatment to address dark spots on my skin. I had a bad experience here 4 years ago about billing, but I chose here again because Dr. Garden, a laser specialist, joined here. Dr. Garden is not shown up on the website, several other providers were listed, and I selected the earliest available appointment under the assumption that the doctor could handle this easy request. At the appointment, Dr. Kuritza spent no more than 3-5 minutes with me. During this time, no tests were conducted, and no medical expertise relevant to my specific concerns was demonstrated. The doctor just looked at my skin, provided only general advice that could easily have been found online and referred me to Dr. Garden within the same clinic. I was informed that I would need two additional appointments with Dr.Garden: one for a skin test and another for the actual laser treatment. That means the doctor I saw today does not provide laser treatments, yet she was listed as an option on the clinic's scheduling platform. This misrepresentation resulted in a wasted appointment, unnecessary charges, and inconvenience for me. I spent the whole afternoon getting no valuable information and treatment at all. When I raised concerns about being billed for this visit, the clinic's management declined my request to waive the fee. I believe this practice--offering appointments with providers who cannot directly address the stated medical needs--is misleading and not in the best interest of patients. This place has left me deeply frustrated on two separate visits four years apart, making it the worst medical facility I've encountered in this country. This time, I've decided to file an official complaint--not because of the money, but to seek justice for the patient experience. read more

I would give them no stars if I could. I went to my appointment with Dr. Sarah Kaxporowicz today. Mind you, I made this appointment June 2024. The appointment was entered into my legal appointment book, my phone calendar & home calendar. It's transferred via computer. As an Attorney with American Bar Association i'm very focused\. They couldn't find my appointment. I would have to wait another 3 months for another appointment. DON"T BOTHER, If their entire reception are (4 in front & 3 in back) can't keep their appointments in order, I can't imagine what the staff might be like. read more

Absolute worst practice ever. On their website they say they've merged but they haven't. I was told all my medical records would transfer and I could get a very simple tretinoin script renewed, but then they refused. They said I would have to go back AGAIN to establish care with Dr. Garden even though I've been seeing him for three years. So I need to spend another 150 dollars for a copay just to renew a 45 dollar topical? The assistant was totally useless, brazen, and unhelpful and even said "well we haven't merged, I don't know why the website says that." Obviously I am terminating my care here. What's the point of even establishing and transferring medical records if you're going to suck this badly? I liked Dr. Garden but this is the third time they've tried to play this game with me and I'm done. I'll just have my GP renew my script thanks a lot for nothing. read more

This 1 star is for the dermatologist herself. She was sweet and very professional. I would give zero stars to the front desk if I could. I called making an appointment and made sure they were able to take my insurance over the phone. I actually made the appointment first through Zocdoc and then called to confirm and make sure my insurance was to cover the appointment. Someone called about the Zocdoc appointment the next day and we both made sure insurance was covered. Remind you, this was AFTER I called to confirm. Both times I spoke with someone, they both confirmed my insurance would cover it. Great! Good to go! The day of the appointment, I go to check in and they tell me my insurance won't cover it. WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!! I confirmed TWICE to make sure this wouldn't happen. What is the point in confirming anything if you don't do your job correctly?! I specifically stated what type of insurance I had and let them know that most places might not accept so please check and recheck to make sure and now you tell me this when I'm there?!! Then they told me they didn't know and if I would like to get a consultation that it will be $188.00 out of pocket. You must be kidding me. Well I'm already there and it's taking so long to see anyone these days bc of covid so I reluctantly abide while silently fuming inside. My consultation was bc I was losing so much hair due to post covid but didn't want to self diagnose so I wanted to get a peace of mind and a professional opinion. The consultation was quick and nothing I didn't know already. The dermatologist said many people are going through this right now and the best way is to just wait until the hair grows back or get OTC rogaine. Dr. Peter Lio, MD is head and shoulders above his peers. Don't confuse Lio's talents with this particular practice. Often patients don't understand the science underlying their treatment while other doctors don't criticize their colleagues if something goes wrong. After speaking with multiple dermatologists about some obscure research totally foreign to them, I brought it up to Dr. Lio -- who knew all about this particular group of studies.  The other dermatologists immediately became defensive when I presented the stack of research. These were NOT from the internet but full peer reviewed studies from a medical library.  Lio on the hand said - "I read those studies when they came out."  These studies were principally conducted in Europe. If you need a uniquely talented dermatologist, Dr. Lio is the resource you should contact. Personally, I have dated a few dermatologists and have been totally unimpressed with their intellect and problem solving abilities. There is strong demand for dermatologists and a shortage of residency spots. One would think this attracts the best and brightest but sadly this isn't often the case.  What appears to be happening is that dermatologists have become more enthralled with the prestige of the profession instead of patient care. read more

This has to be one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a doctors office. I went for a basic yearly mole check up, which is completely covered by my insurance, and the doctor looked over my skin and told me I had nothing to worry about and was good to go. Prior to her leaving I asked if Drunk Elephant was a good sun screen and she said yes, but if you want a better one this is the name of one we sell. The Doctor is great and I have no problem with Her but the Billing department is BEYOND HORRIBLE. After the appointment I looked at my statement and the office was trying to charge me out of pocket $158. When I called to clarify that it was a yearly and they must've just coded it wrong they said that since the doctor recommended sun screen to me that it was no longer a yearly and now categorized as a diagnostic visit.... I tried to speak with the manager and they proceeded to tell me that on top of that it's diagnostic since the doctor assessed my moles, freckles and skin spots.... she looked at them with her eyes which is whole point of a yearly skin check!!! DO NOT go here for a yearly checkup. If this is how they treat people trying to take care of themselves to ensure they don't get skin cancer then God only knows what they do to people who are coming in for other services. When I scheduled this appointment, I told the receptionist I wanted bloodwork done because I've developed something I've never had that is spreading throughout my body rapidly. I did not want to make multiple trips and schedule multiple visits over weeks while this infection is spreading. Dr Stout would not do blood work, even though I asked twice. She said "we will just take a skin test, that takes 7-10 days to get the results back". I wasn't going ro sit there and argue or fight with her, even though I requested it twice. If I'm going to wait 7-10 days for a skin test to come back and especially if if does not show my disorder... then I have to waste my time all over again with this mess taking off work. Needless to say, I'm pretty pissed that I wasted the entire day for her to brush my request for blood work off . I'M NOT PAYING FOR ANOTHER APPOINTMENT TO COME BACK FOR BLOODWORK AFTER ALREADY WAITING 7-10 DAYS TO FIND OUT THEY HAVE NO PROGNOSIS BASED ON A MERE SKIN TEST. ALL THAT WAIT TIME, YOU MAY AS WELL SUBMIT ALL THE TESTS AT ONE TIME. If I am paying, this is what I asked to be done before scheduling then there is no reason to go against the patient's request. read more

I have seen Dr. Neil Peters a number of times over the past few years. On my first visit he noticed a spot on my ear that had been treated with liquid nitrogen for about 10 years by a senior Northwestern medicine dermatologist but never fully resolved. Dr. Peters advised a biopsy which turned out to be skin cancer. Cancer was successfully removed by one of his surgeons and has never returned. Dr. Peters is highly skilled and very personable. I recommend him absolutely without reservation! read more

First-time patient and it's Monday morning. I waited 45 minutes for Dr. Peters. Unfortunately, I could not wait any longer and had to leave. Despite the huge inconvenience they caused, things can happen beyond the realm of control. A woman from the office kindly offered to reschedule me, and this is when a pattern emerged - the best they could offer was an appointment in 5 months. A couple things they could have done better: inform me that the doctor was running late while I was waiting (great coffee place downstairs); and offer to reschedule me sooner to make the situation whole. I declined to reschedule in 5 months and will ask my primary care physician to recommend a different dermatology office. read more

Providers are great, Billing Department is TERRIBLE. Dr. Sarah K and Dr. Aggarwal have been great providers, explain things well, good bedside manner and scheduling is easy (call in or online). Office is tidy. Reception in my experience could be more welcoming. WARNING: Billing Dept. Is awful! It's end of year 2019 and I'm receiving a bill for Summer and Fall of 2018 and Winter of 2019. In my last few visits I've been told by reception that I have no balances. Fast forward to December 2019 and I receive a combined bill for 2018 and 2019, detailing all my visits and insurance coverages. Billing Departments lack of efficiency and delinquency is undesirable. The only reason I'm giving this place two stars is because of the ease of scheduling and the location. I saw Smita Aggarwal for minor skin concerns and left her office thinking that this was probably one of my worst doctor patient encounters ever. She spoke a mile a minute, seemed like she had a script that she had to get through and didn't really take time to listen to my concerns/ what was working for me or not. Towards the end of our conversation she rudely snapped at me when I asked the option of a particular type of treatment and then walked away after our appointment. It seems like she's one of those doctors who have a standard template for a type of patient they see, read the script and then move on to churn out as many patients as they can. Great office, easy scheduling but will not be going back there to see her ever again read more

With a friendly front office staff, knowledgeable doctors, and an incredible esthetician, I couldn't recommend this place more! In efforts to reduce sun damage I acquired over the years, Sara C. (the office esthetician), applied a few rounds of the Perfect 10 peel in one-month increments; the results are phenomenal and speak for themselves (see photo)! Sara's understanding of various treatments/products/services has made my skin more youthful and glowing than ever. My struggle with chest acne, skin roughness, and hyperpigmentation is nearing its end, all thanks to her. I see Dr. Kasprowicz for my medical, dermatological needs. She is attentive to my concerns and knowledge about her field with a very patient and friendly bedside manner. ***This office runs on-time, has an incredible staff, and is generous with samples- what else could one ask for?! read more

Our family has been seeing the dermatologists here for years and were always pleased with the service. However, in the past couple years something changed. Their billing group is irresponsible. They never sent us bills for the co-payments, but they were payed on time by our insurance. Instead of calling us to see if there was an issue, they sent us to a collection agency! If they looked at our history, we always pay our bills. When we called them they didn't really apologize, just said "it's a soft credit mark"!!! This is our credit they're hurting! Dr. Lio is the best pediatric dermatologist - and probably the nicest physician we have ever met. My daughter was suffering from baby eczema and he was able to recommend a regimen that was immediately effective the same day. Dr. Lio has excellent bedside manner and it makes going to the doctor a more pleasant experience for our baby. I felt like he listened to my concerns and answered my questions in a way that made me comfortable with him as our doctor. I'm also guilty of doing a lot of "online" research but Dr. Lio never made me feel bad about that and assured me what the right course of action was for our situation. The office is gorgeous and I hardly waited at all before seeing Dr. Kasprowicz, however, I did arrive 15 minutes early and with my paperwork already filled out and printed (you can print it from their website to save time in the office). I found both the doctor and nurse to be friendly and knowledgable. I went in for a screening for a spot that had been bothering me, and she was quick to look at it and tell me that it was fine. My only complaint is that the guy at the front desk was professional, but a bit cold. I approached him with a question not 5 minutes after checking in and he had already forgotten about me and asked if I was checking out. I was one of 2 people in the waiting room. It was awkward. I have no issue with the medical care provided here. This review is solely based upon the billing department. Two years after my appointment, I received a bill for my routine initial appointment. They had not been able to bill my insurance and sent me the full amount ($235). I called them and made sure they had the correct insurance information. A month later, I got another bill in the mail for the same amount. This time I called the insurance company first. They let me know MDA sent their bill to the wrong address initially and they hadn't heard anything from MDA in two years. I called MDA back and they said they would re-bill the insurance at the new address. I got another bill in the mail within days, again with no insurance payment. In order to make sure the bill didn't go to collections, I just paid out of pocket. TLDR: The billing practices here are a nightmare. Please go to a different dermatologist and save yourself an expensive headache. read more

It was not clean or safe. I had a pustule drained. The doctor didn't wash his hands, pre wipe my skin or attend to the bleeding afterwards. I had to ask a "nurse" to put on something to comfort my bleeding face. Dr Peters used to be an excellent doctor. Today he blew me off, did not ask questions, or answer mine. His service has really fallen, and needs to be checked out for adherence to medical standards. read more

We LOVE Dr. Lio. Came here to get my dad's skin cleared up after so many years of issues. Found Dr. Lio by accident but through yelp actually (Thank you Yelpers!) We've been coming to Dr. Lio since late last year and I have to tell you he has the BEST bedside manners of any doctor I've ever met. He is so polite and mindful. Most of all, you know he's busy but he never appears to rush you which a lot of other doctors do. First two times were there, we got in as soon as we arrived, only the last time we waited about 15 minutes. The staff he has at the front desk are efficient and courteous too. The best thing is, after 6 years of struggling with a skin rash/eruption on his face (seriously don't know what to call what my dad had). We got it cleared up with his treatment protocol. RESULTS! Thats why you go to see doctors, to get cured, right? Well, my Dad continues to be impressed and I can't say enough good things about this man. Thank you Dr. Lio! read more

Soooooo,I am writing this review about a year after my visit. Ironically I was looking for a new Derm who would take the time to speak with me and review my condition with me. I, like fellow yelper Marcela, felt very rushed. And I believe I too had Dr Sarah. I went to Medical Dermatology Assoc hoping to get a more in depth evaluation that was not afforded to me by my initial Derm. So I typed up a list with the procedures done to me, meds prescribed to me, and crap (lotions, makeup, washes) that were sold to me by my previous Derm. I made a point to mention when i made my appontment that I was looking for a 2nd opinion because I felt my initial Derm was just asking me to purchase random scripts, and products from her office. Dr Sarah, glanced at my list and at my skin, stated that I did not have eczema. She told me to buy Ambi skin lightening cream, and was sent on my way in less than 10 mins. My situation has continued to spread, and here I am on Yelp looking for a Derm who will take their time evaluating me and see if chemical peels are even an option for me. I'm sure Medical Dermatology Assoc are a great office for patients with Eczema, but where does that leave everyone else? I mean can I at least get a referral to a Derm who has knowledge of my condition. I'm getting married in a year and I am still trying to deal with my Hyperpigmentation. Went there for an annual checkup. Scheduling the appointment was very easy, did it online and received a confirmation shortly after. I arrived early in order to complete the appropriate paperwork. The first thing that strikes me as weird is that the very first thing they ask you is for your credit card, and they make a copy of it. It's as if they don't trust their patients to pay on time, which should be a red flag. The front desk lady couldn't care less about anyone, and also expects everyone to sign all the documents without reading them. She seemed very upset when I took a moment to read the privacy notice (which was fairly "generous"), and asked her explicitly to make a note that I do not want my information to be shared with anyone. I had to wait for the doctor for a good half an hour, which was mildly disappointing, given everyone else's comments that they don't take you if you are five minutes late. Dr Sarah was very eager to explain everything and answer all my questions. Her office was impeccable and her bedside manner among the best I have experienced. However I'm not sure if she did a very thorough checkup, since the appointment lasted for maybe 5 minutes total. A few days later I received an email that there is an outstanding balance, which I didn't understand but paid it anyway because in order to see the detailed bill, I had to go through hoops, then register for another website, give my SSN etc etc. So it seems that although the doctor seemed knowledgeable and pleasant, this is unfortunately a badly run business. read more

I'm honestly extremely disappointed with my experience here. I went for two years and they were unable to solve my issues and just continued to throw different steroids and topicals at me. I went home and saw a doctor in New York and he was able to figure it out and treat it in ONE VISIT. Besides the convenience of the office if you live downtown, there's nothing good to offer. I don't recommend going here for any of your skin needs. I also have fabulous insurance, yet for some reason I always have astronomical dues to their office. Their accounting Department is Not helpful. I went in for 2 minutes and only saw a nurse and was still charged ridiculously. Don't tell me "that's how doctors work", because I rarely ever saw the doctor, only a nurse. My fabulous doctors in New York don't act this way. Very disappointed and frustrated. read more
