I have gone to Gadabout for over 30 years and have always been very pleased with the hair and nail services I had. My hair color was made for me alone and have had so many compliments. Vivien is my hair dresser and always is on time and spends plenty of time with me. The salon is very clean designed beautifully.. even with a crystal chandelier. I came here for a nail appointment. I was super happy at how easy it was to make an appointment. The nail tech knew how to do this cute cherry design in my nails and she was super friendly (Tania). The location is super clean and inviting. I love the open space. I went in for a gloss about a month ago. I decided to give my hair some time to mostly wash the gloss out. I came in because I had gotten my hair freshly dyed but it was too yellow or golden for me and i wanted to tone down those tones. And lean more towards ashy. Although I understand that my hair might have not been lifted enough to give full ashy where the hair is more of a white color I did not expect my hair to just be muddy brown. I know for ashy tones you have to use a violet color i'm not sure what it's called but currently sometimes my hair looks red which is equally confusing but that could be for other reasons. I have dark brown hair so going from a blonde balayage to close to my hair color was scary. I was told that my hair would look darker that same day which is fine but i was also told it wound only be maybe 2 shades or so darker than what i came in with ? 2 hours after the appointment I immedialty washed my hair twice because it just didn't seem right, I returned the next day and I was basically just told that this is the result that was meant to happen. Overall I felt dismissed and disappointed. The customer service was really great but I just don't believe my results weren't an error of leaving the toner on for too long however I could be wrong. I went to a different salon and was told there wasn't much to do but advised me to wash my hair with dish soap. For the next week I washed my hair vigorously drying it out trying to bring back some of my highlights before the events I had planned the next weekend. Here are some pictures from before and right after I got my hair toned the browner picture being right after the toner. As of right now my hair looks better and you can see more highlights but in medium to dark lighting I just look like I lightened my hair a bit or the reddish brown I had mentioned earlier. Friendly but mechanical! Not a $100 hair cut, but I heard so much about how great Gadabout salons are so I tried it twice. I was disappointed-- Thank you for reaching out to me today! I loved my stylist Meg! She really did a fabulous job and it only took about 2 hours. So a rating of 10 for her. But when I was told the price for my all over color refresh, chunky highlights, moisture treatment during shampoo, cut, and blow dry.....I almost fell over backwards. My payment to the salon (not including any tip) was $428.00. I have never ever paid that much for a hair appointment! Ever! I'm use to $300.00 a visit. But $428.00 made no sense to me, so sadly I probably won't get to use Meg again. read more

Gadabout is the only hair salon i go to, I've been going to Gadabout for about 8 years now. Any of the stylists from the different locations does a wonderful job. I've recently gotten a balayage done by Mireya at this location and I was very happy with the results. My hair is very thick and long so there was additional cost for it but definitely worth the price. read more

When I tried to book another pedicure in February 2024, I was told it would be $66. When I questioned the significant increase in less that 2 months, I was just told "prices change". I immediately cancelled my appointment and will not be going back again. read more

I requested an appointment with their BEST haircutter and got a day and time. I was five minutes late to my appointment (my bad!) and got royally lectured by this "best haircutter" as to how IMPORTANT her time is. I requested that she cut my hair in a modified wedge, which is a less severe cut than the original, iconic Sassoon wedge. She talked on and on about "helmet" haircut and "sassy" haircut, etc. etc., snipping away. When I washed my hair two days later, it turned out to be the second worst haircut I have ever had. It was only then I realized that she did not know how to cut my hair into a modified wedge but was too arrogant to admit it. Now I have to wait until it all grows out to a good length and I can find a decent haircutter and get my modified wedge back. So much for "high-end" salons and their over-rated employees. This is the Gadabout salon at Kolb and Sunrise but I wouldn't go to one at any other location. read more

On Thursday the 30th of August I called Gadabout and asked about a previous stylist that did a blow out for me a while back, her name is Clarissa, I really liked her and although I don't get my color done in Tucson, I thought I would call and ask to speak with her and maybe set up a consultation, for possible color,but I wanted to talk with her first. The first person I spoke with told me she was busy all day, which I was fine with, I wanted her to call me at her leisure, she took the message. I didn't receive a callback that day so I called on the 31st the next day a full 24 hours later at lunch time just to make sure she received my message and perhaps make a time to connect. The second person who answered said yes she has your message but this isn't for an appointment is it? Seriously? No I am calling because I have nothing better to do. I have my color done in San Diego, my stylist texts, calls, messages through Instagram I had no idea this was something new to Gadabout, if you have to go through a third party to have a conversation with a stylist, you are clearly out of touch. In the early 80's while still very young, Pam (owner) permed my hair, back when we all had big hair, (grant location) so I am familiar with the salon. As of today, 3 days later no phone call...zip. Don't bother, as I will be going back to my place in SD, where upon arrival they greet you like a friend with Tea, soda, mimosa or fruit infused water. Gadabout has become one of this nostalgic places that you have fond memories of until you revisit, reality sets in, and that place no longer exists. Sorry Pam I wish I had better news. I should have known better. My hair is never quite what I want when I leave there but I can usually come home and blow dry it out and make it work. This time it was a disaster that couldn't be fixed. I showed the stylist several photos. What I wanted and what I DIDN'T WANT. I explained exactly what I wanted. Then I showed her a photo I didn't want and actually said, "I will cry if you do this to me!" haha! And we laughed and then... I ended up crying. Because holy cow, it was THE EXACT cut I said I did NOT want. I even went back to the one I wanted and explained again why I wanted the one I did. So I thought we were all good. I don't like when they don't want you to keep the photo on hand but I closed my phone and hoped for the best. I have lupus and no eyebrows so my hair is my only saving grace. I am also silver haired and love it but always explain I want a more modern a line bob. I cannot explain what I got. A bowl cut? She even showed me the length she would cut it too and I said yes! (Chin length) but it ended up right below my ears?!?! It hurt while she was cutting and I winced a few times but thought it's fine, I am just sensitive from my skin being in pain often with Lupus so figured I was being too fragile. I wear glasses and told her I cannot see you cutting so let me know when you want me to look. At the end, I put on my glasses and thought - WOW that is WAY shorter than I expected. I thought maybe I can pull on it a bit. I was just too stunned to process it. I paid my $49 plus tip and started to cry as I left the salon. I showed my husband who was so kind but knew it was bad. I said, I've never done this but I have to go back in and tell them! I went back in, in tears. I was embarrassed that it hit me so hard but it did, what can I say? So I talked to someone at the desk who was so kind and she got the education person (?) who said she would re blow dry it and take off some of the weight that was making it like a bowl. I waited 30 minutes at the end of the evening for her to call me back. She got out the blow dryer and tried to flatten it to make it appear longer. I was still in tears. She chopped off some of the weight but said she would not take any length off the top because that would be adding to my trauma and "didn't want to be a part of that." She cut it a tad shorter in the back to help - but it didn't Then she used some dry powder to give it lift in front. I looked like that character from Bugs Bunny - the big fuzzy one with the weird hair. She said I could use a flat iron at home. I guess that was a task she wasn't willing to do to show me how to fix this mess. She said is that better? I said no, through tears. I left. That was it. No offer to refund my money or give me the product she pronounced would solve this cut. One of the stylist walked by while she was doing this and said, "perfect bob, not a hair out of place!" I melted into tears again - it was NOT NOT NOT a bob and it was definitely not the cut I asked for so even if it was a PERFECT! BOB! (it wasn't) it was NOT even remotely what I asked for. I went home and showered and re did my hair and noticed when I looked in the mirror some intense scratch marks on my neck - exactly why I had the pain during the initial haircut. They both had to have seen it and probably hoped it would go away before I got home to see it. (I have photos of the horrible haircut and the scratches on my neck.) I will never step foot in a Gadabout again. I will be disputing the charge on my credit card and the minute people at work ask me what in the world happened to my hair - I will be a living, walking ad for reasons NOT to go to Gadabout! UPDATE: The general manager reached out to me. She offered to refund my money, which saves me the step of having to dispute it on my credit card. She also offered me a gift card for a future hair cut - which I will NOT be using. A salon I went to today to examine and possibly help me confirmed the razor crazy damage done to my hair which will take years to grow out/repair. The stylist who did my hair failed beyond anything I've ever experienced and I've had some crappy haircuts in my life. The fact that the "educator" made me wait 30 minutes and then simply tried to blow dry the sides flatter and dismissed me after some powder application makes me think that the need for updated training exists. Today my fiance went to gadabout at 945am for a practice hair and makeup run through for our wedding in 3 months. 1st hairstylist; charlie: worked for 1 hr on my fiancee. Told her she needed to cut a ton off of her hair bc it was too long (it's half way down her back). Attempted to curl hair with curls going every direction - looked horrible - so bad my fiance refused to pay. Makeup: makeup " artist" used cheap makeup with disposable sample brushes and sponges. Definately a hobbyist, not a professional. She suggested my 21 yr old fiance get botox, bc her face "moves around a lot". She left everything unblended, color didn't match her face. My fiance called me crying at about 1230 upset. After refusing to pay for her first hairstylist attempt, the manager offered to have another stylist fix it. 2nd hairstylist: heard she attempted to fix it. Said previous hairstylist screwed it up so bad - she couldn't really "fix" it. She suggested they try a different day with freshly shampooed hair. All in all: for some reason she still paid $150.00 today - got 2 bad attempts to recreate a photo of long hair with curls, was told to reschedule to try again a different day. She was Told she needs botox and washed her face as soon as she got home bc the makeup looked so bad. She left without another appt, and the only positive is today wasnt our wedding day. 1 star read more

I've been going to hairdresser Ky for four years and she's given me the best service I could have ever anticipated. She's super fun to talk to and remembers a lot about my life, even from over the years. For most of that time I came for blonde highlights and a cut, both of which have always been phenomenal. However, for my 19th birthday I decided to go a peachy pink. My hair was light enough as it was so I got got pink dye plopped on and boom, turned out great. But the $50 treatment lasted only a week or two before fading and turning into a strawberry blonde. I took matters into my own hands and since then I've been dyeing my own hair with Arctic Fox for $12 a bottle and it lasts for months. So if you're looking for an edgy style, I suggest doing it yourself instead of here. I'm also just being disillusioned with the pricing scale as a whole. I understand that all the older women who go there can afford it and might not think twice but as a college kid it's just too much anymore. The cut was to be layered, There is a big chunk out of the left side of the back and right side in back was all even down to the end. What can I do about the missing chunk if hair? Exorbitant prices! More than I have ever paid for a stylist. A 5-minute haircut could cost over $80, if you get a higher level stylist. My quest for the look of a bronze goddess and to have spray tan Mariah Carey abs led me to Gadabout. I realized after arriving that it had been a long time since my last spray tan at the salon as.. They don't offer it anymore!!! Bummer! Instead they offer the service of exfoliation and sunless tanner application, the " Sun Glow". The exfoliation felt fantastic , they say it's the most critical part of self tan! The whole process took 50 minutes and the total bill was 80$. In the end after the lotion was applied, later on in the day my " tan" intensified & it was pretty even. I felt as though since it wasn't a relaxing massage or wasn't going to last that long ... My money could have been spent a little more wisely on a great exfoliant and fancy self tanner and I could do it myself . read more

When I used to get my hair done here I would convince myself I was happy with it. But when I moved across country I realized how much I had been missing! I don't understand how big fancy salons such as Gadabout still have stylistswho aren't properly trained. 9 times out of 10 when I would go in for highlights I would come home with bleeders or spots in various places. How is that acceptable? I even had to go as far as going back in so my stylist would fix it. Accidents happen but these were so frequent. I only went there for about 5 or 6 months before I moved and I don't think I would have stayed much longer. I'm sure not all the stylists are bad but I just was not impressed. read more

Oh the disappointments of being a black female on a quest to get salon services performed in Tucson... While the only person "qualified" to work "my type" of hair was cheery and personable enough in the beginning, she did have me verbally affirm my ethnicity (in person) three times in an attempt to convince me that what I wanted was IMPOSSIBLE. I persisted in requesting a basic chemical strand test for a permanent wave (aka permanent--yes, like from the 80's; yes, usually worn by Caucasians) and the beautician tried to sell me on a Wave Nouveau (aka spray-activated, dry Jheri curl from the 80's). A week later, the strand test that I requested had still not been done. When I asked about it, the beautician said that she was overwhelmingly busy and just did not have any time, but the administrative assistant dimed her out and said that she didn't have an appointment for the next 90 minutes (....tension anyone?). At my urging, the beautician said that she would get to the strand test that very day and while I was driving away I felt as though I had badgered an unwilling professional into doing something....and I almost felt a little dirty. It was then that I realized that: (1) I don't want to pay anyone money to do anything to my hair, face, or body that they don't want to do and (2) capability is not equal to qualification. In the end, the strand test that I requested was successful and came out beautifully, but the professional relationship was beyond salvaging and neither I nor the beautician were willing to do business with each other. Overall, Gadabout was a lovely salon. If this experience were better, I might have decided to spend my money getting beauty treatments done here, but I've found another salon (further from my home) to give my business to. read more

Right after moving here, I colored my own hair for two months before getting up the courage to try a salon. A coupon for a place right up the street from my house came in a welcome package and in a weak moment, I thought, why not? The question is, Why? Why did I go back after the stylist couldn't make the color stick? And then razored the living daylights out of my fine hair. (It stuck straight up from the top of my head...I kid you not!) I saw the great reviews for Gadabout, took a big gulp and made an appointment. SO glad I did. I would have settled for a competent stylist. What I got was an experience. I got guidance in making an appointment with the appropriate stylist. The welcome was friendly. The atmosphere upbeat and comfortable. (The shampoo, scalp/neck massage is worth the trip alone.) The price is fair (cheaper than House of Hair Horror). And my hair looks natural, healthy, cute. I was so pleased with my color (thank you Yadi!!) and cut, I bought my Mom a gift certificate for Christmas. read more

I'm only giving 4 stars and not 5 because I feel like you get bounced around a lot and they tend to double book. My feeling is when you pay their prices you should be focused on for your appointment time. I have no complaints in regards to the services I've received at the salon. Every person I have seen has been amazing and super friendly. I love their spa water and miss the lunch that came with booking a spa day. I've been looking for a permanent stylist since I moved to Tucson four years ago. I haven't had much luck, but the last time I went to Gadabout on Speedway I was more satisfied with the results than I have been at other salons. I scheduled with a different stylist today, at the Grant location. A friend recommended that I schedule with Zell, as she apparently specializes with coloring hair red. I needed my roots touched up as well as the rest of my hair colored, since the red had faded almost completely by this point. She did a great job! I brought in my clip-in extensions (that were the same color as my hair was before everything faded) and asked if she could match the shade, I clipped my extensions in when I got home and discovered that she matched it perfectly! I'm so pleased with the results! Before starting on my hair she went over her recommendations with me, which I appreciate, and she suggested a moisturizing treatment as well as a gloss to make sure that the color took properly and wouldn't fade as quickly. She also recommended a trim (I'm embarrassed to say I haven't had one in about 6-8 months), which I wasn't planning on doing for some reason, but I'm so glad I did! She revived my hair color and my layers, my hair looks so healthy now! I'm naturally brunette and am always hesitant with new stylists when it comes to dying my hair to the coppery-red shade that I love. I'll definitely come back, and I'd fully recommend Zell to anyone that wants to go red, or needs a touch-up or freshening of their red color. The girl that shampooed me was also great, unfortunately I didn't catch her name. Everyone here is polite and welcoming, and they know what they're doing! Highly recommend! read more

I went to Gadabout two weeks ago for a much needed massage. I was lucky enough to have Candace as my masseuse. She got out alllllllllll of the stress that I carry in my neck and back. Like, leaning-into-it-with-her-forearms got all of it out. She was sensitive to any discomfort I experienced (nothing horrible) and focused on the areas I asked her to. I highly recommend seeing her! As for Gadabout itself, it's the same great atmosphere you would expect from any location. The prices are reasonable for the spa services and I've never had bad massage or nail experience there. Weird fact: One of my favorite things about Gadabout is discovering what fruit-infused water is waiting for me. Cucumber is great. Last time was watermelon. Just moved back to Tucson and was so scared and hesitant to let anyone touch my hair! I have been burned, literally, one too many times! Gadabout and I go way back. There's that 4-year-old incident where my hair was eaten by the blow dryer, and there is also that 2-year-old incident where I had the BEST eyebrow job in my life - and I don't let anyone touch my eyebrows! So after sleeping on it for a week and discussing it with other Tucson gal pals, I decided to book my appt at Gadabout. I was pleasantly surprised. Corrine was friendly and really listened to what I had to say. She took her time and did everything I asked for. Must have like 100 foils in my hair, color must be growing out of my head (no roots showing when I walk out of the salon) and big and bouncy blow-out, please. She totes delivered! Not to mention prices are amazing. $45 for a cut?!! $35 for Kerastase products. K, maybe I'm still jaded from San Francisco, but this has got to be amazing, right?! So, I'll be back the end of March before a big wedding in April and will trust Corrine with my whole entire heart! read more

I got my eyelash extensions done by Bianca at the Grant location for a few years when I lived in Tucson. Bianca is so professional, friendly, and is one of the BEST aestheticians I've gotten to work with. She made my lashes look long and full, and they typically lasted for 2.5 weeks before I needed a retouch. I also had my hair cut and styled at both the Speedway and Grant locations by a few different stylists. While I was mostly pleased with the results, sometimes my haircuts would be slightly inconsistent in quality. Overall, I loved Gadabout. There were a few big price increases on services during the period I went to the salons, which wasn't great, but the services were just too great to quit. read more
