They were extremely thorough and professional throughout the entire process. They carefully cleaned and inspected both fireplaces, recommended and replaced the ember wool for one of the units that was clearly deteriorated, and provided a detailed condition report. We had previously noticed a slight odor when using the upstairs fireplace, so we especially appreciated how methodical they were in checking ventilation and ensuring everything was working properly. In the end, everything checked out and we received a clean bill of health, which gives us great peace of mind. The level of service, transparency, honesty, and attention to detail made it worthwhile. They did not upsell or use scare tactics, which we really appreciated. We'd much rather know everything was done right than cut corners on something safety-related or pay for unnecessary services. Overall, highly recommend if you're looking for a thorough, honest, and professional chimney and fireplace service. We wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

He charged me $225 for diagnosis and said the valve is busted and will cost about $600 to repair in the first communication. I had authorized it over the phone. Then he forgot to come back to repair for over two weeks. I had trusted him entirely and this is where he took advantage. While the valve costs about $350 from parts warehouse, he later said his price to me was $1200 and said that is how the industry works. On top of that he said it will be four hours of labor at $250 per hour. He argued that he has been doing this for 20 plus years and any other technician will do the same. Luckily, I was able to fire him right away and also have Venmo return the payment for false diagnosis. I called up another technician for repair, while ordering the part myself. The other technician said valve is fine and charged me $300 for overall service. Michael would have costed me over $2500. Dishonest, unethical, unprofessional, extremely poor communicator. Not sure how he had five stars.

I have an old-school wood-burning fireplace that had never been properly serviced, so every winter…read moresmoke would seep into the house. Michael inspected the chimney with a camera and quickly found the problems. The original damper was mounted low and blocked much of the smoke chamber, the smoke chamber itself was rough and poorly shaped, and the deteriorated flue liner left large gaps that disrupted the draft. Rather than simply repairing the chimney, he completely re-engineered how it worked. He removed the old damper and installed a top-sealing damper, enlarged and reshaped the opening into the smoke chamber, then rebuilt and smoothed the chamber so the smoke could flow cleanly and efficiently into the flue. The result is remarkable. He took a 50-year-old chimney and made it work better than new. For the first time since we've owned the house, the fireplace drafts perfectly without a trace of smoke entering the room. As a bonus, it looks fantastic too. His crew was equally impressive. They paid attention to every detail, and even though chimney work is inherently messy, they sealed off the entire work area with plastic and left the house absolutely spotless. I'm incredibly grateful I found Michael. It's rare to find someone who combines this level of technical expertise, craftsmanship, professionalism, and genuine enthusiasm for his work. He clearly loves what he does, and it shows in every detail. It's also a reminder of what's been lost. Today, so much of construction is about replacing rather than restoring, and many fireplaces and chimneys arrive as prefabricated systems assembled from factory-made parts. There's nothing quite like finding a true mason who understands how a traditional masonry chimney is supposed to work and has the skill to improve it rather than simply replace it. Craftsmen like Michael are becoming a rare breed, and I'm grateful there are still artisans who take this much pride in their work.

He was incredibly thorough in his inspection and report, to the point that both the seller agent and our agent asked how I found such a good inspector. His quote for repairs was extremely fair and his detail helped us get a credit for the repairs needed. Fast forward to once we moved in, I reached out to Michael to schedule and he was able to get his team out less than a week later. It was over summer, so I would guess in fall/winter, it's likely a longer lead time, but he's extremely nice and accommodating so I'm sure he helps people if they are in a bind. Michael said it would take 2 days to complete the work, which it did (this is honestly refreshing because usually people quote less time and then end up going over), his guys were prompt and did a great job on all the work. They cleaned up after themselves and left the space looking just the way it was before they came. Michael then came out at the end to check out the work and ensure it was up to his standards. When that didn't fully resolve the issue, he came back out to reassess and suggested installing a full gas insert as the next step. What I really appreciated was that Eli credited us for the previous work (gas logs and damper) and helped us choose an insert that made sense. The only hiccup we experienced was with the third-party vendor supplying the insert, since we initially had to pay them directly and ran into some issues. However, Eli stepped in, handled the situation, and arranged to pay the vendor himself, allowing us to reimburse him instead--which made things much smoother. Throughout both the initial service and the final installation, his crew was prompt, courteous, and efficient.

Their repairs were also expensive. For example- they wanted $300+ to put some high heat mortar on the back side of my fireplace opening. This actually needed to be done but it was a tiny job. When I said I'd do it myself the vendor implied I was incapable without knowing I do small jobs like that all the time. I ended up doing the job myself for about $10 in materials and 30 mins of my time. -they told me my chimney needed a deep cleaning. Yet, unknown to them the chimney had been cleaned the week before.
