He charged me $225 for diagnosis and said the valve is busted and will cost about $600 to repair in the first communication. I had authorized it over the phone. Then he forgot to come back to repair for over two weeks. I had trusted him entirely and this is where he took advantage. While the valve costs about $350 from parts warehouse, he later said his price to me was $1200 and said that is how the industry works. On top of that he said it will be four hours of labor at $250 per hour. He argued that he has been doing this for 20 plus years and any other technician will do the same. Luckily, I was able to fire him right away and also have Venmo return the payment for false diagnosis. I called up another technician for repair, while ordering the part myself. The other technician said valve is fine and charged me $300 for overall service. Michael would have costed me over $2500. Dishonest, unethical, unprofessional, extremely poor communicator. Our fireplace with electronic ignition stopped igniting . We made at least 20+ calls looking for someone to fix it. Called Okells fireplace on a lark and sure enough Mike was there and came within an hour. and within a few minutes it was up and running perfectly. Over the phone, he was so helpful and explained to me that I probably don't need that service with a gas fireplace, and gave me the reasons why. He doesn't do chimney sweeping, but said he'd help me in any way that he could. He gave me two referrals for what I actually may need.
