The tech opened up the fireplace, banged around, and determined that we needed $2550.00 worth of work done on the unit. Jonathan was my second opinion for the job. I had them come out to do an inspection-which they charged $69 for. I knew i needed a cleaning and was curious how much they would charge for the service. When they arrived they went up on the roof and looked in the firebox. They told me I needed a deep cleaning and the cost would be $699. This was by far the most expensive quote I got. I eventually got the chimney swept for $230. The problem with this type of service is that everything is subjective so it is difficult to know exactly what is needed and to compare quotes side by side. That said, because Chimney Sweep Master's quote was so much higher than the others I got- I'm pretty confident that their quote of $699 was a bit over board. read more

I enjoyed my experience working with this company. They were referred by a neighboring contractor. I was a little jarred when I called to make an appointment as I thought I had reached a call center, but they took care of me and scheduled me quickly. Day of apt there was a two hour arrival time window, which always has me weary, but Robbie, my technician made it in time and most importantly was highly communicative about ETA & arrival. Totally set me at ease and helped me stay on schedule for my day. Once here Robbie took the time to educate me on my fireplace and maintenance schedule which I found helpful as a first time homeowner. The quote was higher than I expected, being advised $150 as a minimum, but my personal being a bit higher ($425), which was to be expected as I've not used it for two years and the previous owner burned wood logs, so it needed a deeper clean. When I expressed my fiscal hesitation to complete the job on the day, the company was able to work with me to find financing that gets them paid and supports my budget. Just based on the fact that I called for an estimate, at first could not get an estimate because they needed to come evaluate it to estimate, which I said I understood, but I was just wondering ballpark figure - if nothing was wrong and it was a straightforward cleaning, - how much it would be, and was finally given a figure. It was very high like $200 higher than any of the other five or six places I had already called!), and I made a little noise of surprise, so the person went into a diatribe about how they were better about everything than everyone else. Bonded, insured, certified, blessed by God and Bouddha or whoever, just top of the top is best of the best better than anyone. I tried to stop the woman and say "thank you. Just comparing prices and services right now," but she w ould not stop talking, started offering me all different kinds of "deals" just to get my business. I finally said thank you. I'm going to hang up now and the person said that they would come out for free to do an estimate instead of charging. I explained I was no longer interested because she kept changing deals and it felt scam me and that I was not even comfortable talking to her, let alone having them come to my house, and I hung up. I have since then received three phone calls and two texts trying to get my business, all of which I have said I'm not interested. Please leave me alone. Freaky. No idea how good a job they do. UPDATE: After this posting, Johnathan contacted me and reimbursed me $900. I'm posting this because I believe in transparency and honesty. I hope others will use my experience as a lesson, and make an informed choice about Chimney Sweep Masters. After the Eaton Fires, I was looking to get my two chimneys cleaned. I was originally quoted a $49 inspection fee per chimney, and told that cleanings started at $199. This seemed like a fair price, so I booked them. On the day of my service, the technician Isaac barely shined a flashlight into my fireplace and quoted a whopping $899 for each of my two chimneys. When I inquired about the price, I was told that this was an extremely complicated and dangerous job. We were able to "negotiate" for $1500...I was then taken aback when it took him barely less than one hour of work. I tried to reach Johnathan, the owner, to try to resolve my concerns, as I started to feel that I had grossly overpaid. Other companies were charging less than half of what I paid. I felt sick. I wanted to resolve this in a professional manner, over the phone, and give them the benefit of the doubt to rectify the payment situation. I waited four days before I heard from anyone other than the faux call center ladies. I finally heard back and was told that this job actually "wasn't so complicated" and that we could resolve this manner. He ended up reimbursing me $900. Next time, Chimney Sweep Masters, be transparent and charge a fair price from the very beginning. Customers shouldn't have to spend a week going back-and-forth to get their money back--this should have been transparent from the beginning. You lose a lot of trust when you operate this way. While I'm glad I got my money back, I am still questioning the integrity of this company. They aren't transparent, their quotes are ridiculously high, and they will take advantage of naive customers. If you communicate and stand your ground, you might be able to recoup some of your losses, but you shouldn't have to do that at all...so save yourself the trouble and go elsewhere! read more
