We are long time Gadwall's fans. Never really had a bad experience. Didn't have a bad experience today either until I got the bill. I understand costs have gone up for everyone but $14 for chicken fried steak is nuts. My wife and I had sandwiches for lunch. My wife's was $12. She had the club...it has bacon and all kinds of more expensive ingredients than my chicken fried steak sandwich. Idk. Restaurants are pricing themselves out. $30 before tip and we had chips and water. No fries. No apps. We will definitely go back it just won't be as often. read more

Before our visit to Little Rock, we had found that the reviews of Gadwall's Grill mostly were very strong, and we found out why by dining there. In fact, we were so impressed that our group 'voted' unanimously to return there the next day!! The place was very clean, and the service was superb -- and, very importantly, the food was great!! Very well-prepared, tasty, and in very large servings! Our reuben, patty melt, foot-long chili/cheese/onion/slaw hot dog, and hamburgers were delicious - perhaps the best we have had!! Both onion rings and sweet potato fries MUST be tried!! And, don't forget the desserts!! The blueberry cobbler (three servings in our group!) was superb, and the fried pies most definitely are to be tried!!! This definitely is not a fancy place! Whenever I'm visiting or on business, I always steer clear of the "chains" and look for the hole in the wall local favorites and very seldom am I disappointed. While staying at camp Robinson in North Little Rock, another group of us went to Gadwalls and once again, no disappointment from myself or the others. I had the Hamburger Steak...double patty, grilled onions smothered in brown gravy with a side of fried okra and onion rings ... Let me put it this way...I enjoyed it so much, I ordered a single burger and the massive chili dog w/slaw on top TO-GO!!! Gadwalls has been a stable in Sherwood/North Little Rock area for many years. My grandpa has been taking me there since I was a little kid. They have the best cheese dip in town and all types of southern foods and burgers. My favorite is always hamburger steak smothered in grilled onions with a side of fried okra. Parking lot was full but we were still able to walk in and get a seat. The wife and I found ourselves in Sherwood for business. Always looking for non franchise eateries we stumbled into this place. We ordered a club sandwich with onion rings and a white bean chili. The waiter "TayTay" quickly brought our drinks and before I was half done with my tea our meal showed up. The onion rings were crispy and tasty, the club sandwich was fresh and full the white bean chilli had a home style taste too it. The meal was enjoyed and the bill was happily paid. This is the kind of small town America diner that brings back memories of yesterday. Quality food at a reasonable price and full of the locals that I am sure frequent on a regular basis. I titled this A Hidden Treasure because in 27 years of living in Sherwood, Arkansas, this is the first time we've visited this place and we were not only surprised, but wowed by the place, staff and food. (Gadwall's sits on the very edge of Sherwood and North Little Rock) We came in on a cloudy Wednesday evening, on a day when restaurants would normally be quiet because it's church day. Well, this place wasn't quiet at all. It was bustling with customers at 6 pm. We walked in and waited a minute. Someone approached us and said in a very nice tone that we can seat wherever we wanted. We walked around the place which was not very large nor very small. I would say it could hold about 50 people. We sat by the door, the very first booth as you walk in. From our vantage point we could see and hear as customers queued up to the till and paid, and all conversation around it. The menu didn't impress me as it had the basic American diner stuff, burgers, chips, chicken strips, grilled cheese sandwiches , etc. What caught my eye was the price of the burger. It was $5.95 for a single patty with chips and $7.95 for a double. I usually am more adventurous when it comes to what I order but on that day, I decided to stick to the basics so I had the double-patty burger (no cheese) with everything on it. My wife got the Reuben sandwich and also wanted the nacho chips with cheese dip. She however explained her hesitance in ordering it because sometimes the dip is not very good. The waiter, Chase (friendly and attentive), immediately offered to bring a sample for my wife to taste. It was not-so-small sample of chips in a basket. Since my wife liked it, she asked Chase if she can get only half an order. Chase explained very nicely that Gadwall's normally doesn't allow half orders but this time, since it was our first visit, he would oblige. The half order of chicken nachos with dip was so huge that we had to go a to-go box for it. My wife hardly put a dent on her portion. She said that it was really delicious. My jaw fell when the double patty burger was place on the table. It was really big. Each patty was bigger than anything I've seen, including at Chili's, Ruby Tuesday, Mooyah, Dave's, etc. and ounce for ounce, it was less expensive than the others. My wife also raved about the Reuben. She however wished to have asked for less sauerkraut as it overwhelmed the tasted of the meat. Overall however, she was pleased. After that visit, my wife and I agreed that we will be visiting this place more often and I expressed my regret that we hadn't visited this place before when the barber shop I patronize is right next door to it. Oh well, better late than never. Gadwall's is truly a hidden treasure. read more

If you're from North Little Rock (NLR) you've got to have gone to Gadwall's. It's the GO-TO place for local's for a burger and fries with a side of ranch dressing. Here's our normal procedure; is to get some cheese dip and chips as the starter with a glass of sweet ice tea. We fight over the cheese dip as we eat chip after chip until the you're scraping off the last of the cheese dip with either the last chip or your finger. Then, order the spicy cheese burger and fries dipping each french fry into the ranch dressing. If a burger isn't for you they have chili dogs, white chili and another good one is the hamburger steak that comes with grilled onions. The clientele is all the local NLR and Sherwood crowd where everyone knows everyone. You can't hide at Gadwall's if you don't want to be found out. Even after leaving NLR for Seattle in 2000, I still can see friends and family here from my days living on Lakewood and coaching my sons soccer team. read more

It's your standard Americana food. Fills the hunger. Had the Rubin and was made with microtone sliced, cold cut corned beef from Sysco. (As was the chicken fried chicken my wife ordered) It was disappointing. That being said, the fries were awesomely good. Beer was cold. Atmosphere was neighborhood diner that's been in business a long time because they have been. I think they just need to get back to the real food and real methods of making it extraordinary. This is not the place you expect to find Sysco. I hope for better on my next visit. read more
