This charming establishment is located near the Memorial Park and the menu has a few items named as an homage. I like that--highly local flavor. It appears to be a retrofitted home--again I like that, green/repurpose/rescue local. Speaking of local, it has a constant stream of what appears to be local patrons, to include two tables occupied by a young mom with her toddler son, adorable. The bakery display was sparse, hence a lower rating (this is listed in Yelp! as a bakery). Their menu is extensive, with a generous listing of cleverly named egg related items. The staff is busy taking orders, delivering food items to tables. Speaking of tables, the patio areas are varied and generous. I've been here several times and will continue to return.

Food was delicious and the service was on point. HLB is a small spot in walking distance to War Memorial Stadium. We both had a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit and it was very good. The biscuit was perfection. We'll be back!

I want to like this place so badly. Today we walked in an hour after their posted hours of operation to a girl telling us they weren't open. I told her the internet said they were open and in the most annoyed and put out terms she demanded to see proof - then she turned to the people there and announced they'd open in 3 minutes now. Did not apologize. Was not kind. Why are the people here continually the worst? I want to like it so much but there's just always something.

So there we were at the tail end of a galpal ladiepants getaway weekend, and we needed real good before heading to the airport. After googling "breakfast near me" we found this little gem. My friend ordered an iced fall latte and I had a dirty chai. Both were fantastic and just what we needed. She had a bacon egg and cheese sandwich and I ordered the uptown.-biscuits and gravy topped with eggs over easy. The food was well made and tasty. My only complaint was that it was served in a small dish and my biscuits were over home fries. Cutting into it made the whole thing a gravy filled mess. It was delicious, but I wish it had been on a larger plate so I could have enjoyed some straight potatoes without gravy. All in all the breakfast and coffee here was just what we needed to cap off a mellow ladiepants weekend trip.

Wonderful service, location, and food! I had the best Matcha there (Sunrise Matcha)! The food was fresh and delicious and I appreciated their bacon being cooked fully and slightly crunchy. My mom got fresh fig jam with her biscuit that she really enjoyed.

Came here after seeing that our first coffee shop stop had a kitchen that was out of service. It's a very cute home turned place with some parking spots but mainly street parking. There are seats inside and outside, and they offer a lot of food options which is nice. I opted for a Benedict that came with hot chicken and a side of potatoes. The egg white were super fluffy, almost whipped - and the yolk was perfectly runny. The chicken wasn't as hot as I thought (flavor wise) it would be and was a tad bit dry. My friend had the biscuits and gravy which I thought was better than mine, would probably get that if I'm ever in town again.

Love this cute spot! Always packed for breakfast because it's delicious. Kind and quick service. Specialty coffees are a must- try the seasonal ones!! Haven't had the lunch menu yet but looking forward to trying it and getting a punchbowl with the succulent!

The food and the service was excellent. The Uptown biscuits and gravy were amazing! The homemade brown sugar pop tarts were freaking awesome too!

Hot Chicken & Cheddar with Fries

It was so good I forgot to take a good picture so here's the end result lol. The food was 5/5 in my opinion. We also got a lavender lemonade and it was 5/5! They give you one free refill too. Everyone was so nice and even suggested that my fiancée get the hot chicken slider (which was also 5/5). Definitely coming back soon! The place is super cozy and cute as well.

I was a customer of Dempsey Bakery for years. I always told people how wonderful their products…read morewere. You couldn't even tell the difference between gluten free and regular food. After not having been there since before covid, I went back yesterday. I noticed the remodel and saw the lack of a case featuring cakes and other sweets. OK - I thought as long as it still tastes the same. I heard an employee tell another customer that the same family still owned it. I got my old favorite -- lemon blueberry tea cake and a cupcake with coconut and caramel topping the icing. My sister who has celiac bought several soups, many pieces of cheesecake, an individual lemon pie, cookies and more. She took a bite of the little pie as soon as we got in the car -- let me tell you it was awful. The lemon did not taste at all lemony. It tasted mostly of chemicals. When I got home, I ate the cupcake and the cupcake itself was dry and barely edible. The frosting was some unknown concoction that tasted of chemicals also. My sister told me this morning that she ate more stuff when she got home and she has been sick all night and still today. I googled Dempsey and it says that Paula Dempsey sold the bakery to Friendly Bakery. They did the remodel and I am assuming the food was also "remodeled." I'm sure it was a "money" thing because that is what big business always does -- look at the bottom line. I am so disappointed. I used to go there for lunch when I worked downtown but I know for sure, I won't be going back. I did not select "service" or "ambiance" as noted above. I didn't find anything wrong with either. It was the chemical taste of the food and the lack of freshness that I am upset about.
