I stopped in for Sunday brunch at Hillcrest Little Bakery with a dining companion who was visiting for the first time. I've personally worked my way through most of the menu over time, so I was excited for them to try it. It was around 9am so it was still fairly quiet and calm. Believe me it gets busy!! We started with orange juice and a Sunrise Matcha while we looked over the menu and caught up. The service was excellent (always) attentive, friendly, and relaxed, which made it easy to take our time. My companion ordered the B Street Bowl (potatoes, smoked brisket, onions, and peppers) with the queso served on the side and eggs cooked to order(fried hard). I ordered The Chenal which is their seasoned grilled shrimp with bacon, peppers, and tomatoes over cheesy grits. I added an over-medium egg and a side of hollandaise. Both dishes were delicious and incredibly satisfying. The portions were huge, and we each ended up taking a to-go box home for a mini meal later. It's the kind of brunch spot where you can sip your drink, take your time, and leave very full. Tip: If you order the B Street Bowl, getting the queso on the side lets you control the richness. Wandered in here about a week ago, based upon the reviews from yelp and why did it NOT disappoint! Super cute little place located about a block off the main drag, it's in a converted house that is decorated tastefully and kept immaculately clean. It was lunchtime, and even though I thought I wanted something sweet like French toast the brisket wrap caught my eye, and I decided to give that a try instead. Meanwhile, the nice lady sitting next to me received her bananas, foster pancakes, and I immediately started kicking myself for not going that route. Her bananas were beautifully caramelized with quite a bit of sauce, topping the pancakes, and it looked heavenly. According to her, it was heavenly. Moments later, my brisket wrap arrived with the tiniest little container of a garlic aïoli, which was clearly homemade. The rap itself was jampacked full of succulent, perfectly cooked beef, but when you put a little bit of that aïoli on there, it really stepped its game up and shined! We were in the mood for some good hearty breakfast while visiting LR so we decided to checkout Hillcrest based on a local's recommendation. The outside of the bakery feels like someone's home but don't fret as there actually is a bakery inside. There were lines out the door on a Saturday morning which is usually a good indicator that the food is going to be good. In no time we were at the front of the counter and quickly ordered two Hot Honey and chicken biscuits that comes with hot chicken, dill pickle, egg, pimento cheese, and hot honey all served between a flaky fresh biscuit. When the biscuits came, first thing we noticed was that the chicken cutlet was huge! The melting flavors of honey and chicken and pimento were heavenly. The honey added a nice sweet heat that mellowed out the saltiness of the biscuit. Each of the biscuit was $8.50 and priced just right. I highly recommend Hillcrest bakery for that warm cozy feeling you get after eating an excellent biscuit sandwich. read more

This charming establishment is located near the Memorial Park and the menu has a few items named as an homage. I like that--highly local flavor. It appears to be a retrofitted home--again I like that, green/repurpose/rescue local. Speaking of local, it has a constant stream of what appears to be local patrons, to include two tables occupied by a young mom with her toddler son, adorable. The bakery display was sparse, hence a lower rating (this is listed in Yelp! as a bakery). Their menu is extensive, with a generous listing of cleverly named egg related items. The staff is busy taking orders, delivering food items to tables. Speaking of tables, the patio areas are varied and generous. I've been here several times and will continue to return. read more

So there we were at the tail end of a galpal ladiepants getaway weekend, and we needed real good before heading to the airport. After googling "breakfast near me" we found this little gem. My friend ordered an iced fall latte and I had a dirty chai. Both were fantastic and just what we needed. She had a bacon egg and cheese sandwich and I ordered the uptown.-biscuits and gravy topped with eggs over easy. The food was well made and tasty. My only complaint was that it was served in a small dish and my biscuits were over home fries. Cutting into it made the whole thing a gravy filled mess. It was delicious, but I wish it had been on a larger plate so I could have enjoyed some straight potatoes without gravy. Oh my goodness, this cute little bakery was so perfect! Love the design of it so much. My server and the barista were so sweet and welcoming when I came in. I got a small plain latter and a breakfast wrap and sat down to do some work. The latte was really good, but that wrap was amazing! Came here after seeing that our first coffee shop stop had a kitchen that was out of service. It's a very cute home turned place with some parking spots but mainly street parking. There are seats inside and outside, and they offer a lot of food options which is nice. I opted for a Benedict that came with hot chicken and a side of potatoes. The egg white were super fluffy, almost whipped - and the yolk was perfectly runny. The chicken wasn't as hot as I thought (flavor wise) it would be and was a tad bit dry. Lovely atmosphere in this cozy, friendly spot. We rolled right in as they opened at 4 PM for happy hour on a Sunday. We had drinks and cheese dip out on the covered side deck in the rain -- super cozy and atmospheric with the lights and rain on the roof. I ordered an old fashion, not many liquor choices to use...but this old fashion was rougher than a spot at 2 am and it's only 5:30. It came with a cherry....an old fashion doesn't come with a cherry. Too much bitters and not balanced enough with muddled sugar and bourbon. Ordered a strawberry cupcake...sad to say it was dry. To the point I think it's a day or two old honestly....there was a fly on their display case. I mentioned it...they did not care lol. I mean at least wave it away. I've not seen a bakery display case that doesn't have a clear closing door in the back. Anyway...the weather was nice...but a happy hour spot....I think they have some work to do. I did mention all of this to Daniel and they know about it but owner doesn't want to change it. It's an $8 old fashion. Mark that to $10 have better ingredients or take it off the menu. Let me start by saying this place is absolutely adorable. The decor-outside and inside- are extremely charming and welcoming. I was so excited to see they had an avocado biscuit as a lot of these places don't have vegetarian options. When I got it, I was soo upset that it didn't have actual avocado but cheap pre-made guac (like the ones that come in squeeze packets at the supermarket). No real avocado. In my opinion, that completely ruined it. My egg was perfectly poached, but the biscuit and sauce were also just ok in my opinion. Cold brew was also ok. My friend got a turtle cheesecake which was incredible, but the food was overall mediocre in my opinion. A few stars for cute ambiance/decor, friendly staff, and delicious cheesecake. Hillcrest little bakery is a lovely little bakery and cafe off the highway in Little Rock. The biscuits are super big fluffy and delicious. The little toaster pastries are so small and so freakin' adorable and tasty. The coffee is nothing to write home about, but it's a solid big ol cup and will get you to where you need to be caffeine wise. You can order online to-go ahead of time which is clutch. We've only ever gotten to-go and it's been great every time. Maybe one day we'll spend more time in Little Rock and hang around to dine in. They've expanded the outdoor seating, built out the menu, and kept that coffee flowing! This remains one of my favorite spaces in Little Rock, and I come to it often. It's (almost) nestled in one of the cooler, older neighborhoods, so even though it is near some city hustle and bustle, it feels more comfortable than many spaces. It's surrounded by trees that are magnificent in the Spring and Summer, and breathtaking in the Fall (not so much Winter, but what can you do?) The service is still super quick, friendly, and knowledgeable. I've never had any issues at all, and usually had folks go above-and-beyond what I would expect for a coffee shop/breakfast space. They do have expensive items on the menu, but their biscuit sandwiches are a meal, and they're on the "everyday lunch" cost level. My personal favorite is the grilled chicken biscuit, although the hot chicken biscuit still gets me, and there are plenty of other options too. Another food staple for us is the delicious chocolate chip pancakes, which are the #1 food I know absolutely that both of my kids will eat, and eat all of (...for now, ha!) The only downsides are that it can be quite busy, and on-site parking is limited. It's in a really easy walking neighborhood though, so there are plenty of side-streets within a block or two to park. For me the walk is a perk, so I don't mind that at all - and even at the busiest I've seen it, I've managed to find a table for 2-6 without a wait! read more

This is a breakfast gem. I was in Little Rock for 7 weeks working and had breakfast here 5 times wish it had been several times more. Truly taste farm to table. Everything was always fresh and hot. The biscuits melt in your mouth and the hot chicken will never disappoint. You can sit outside and enjoy breakfast on the patio. It is a small place but worth the wait during busy hours. The gravy was awesome! Pancake was literally a cake and so good too. Super fresh flavors. We will be back. Was really excited to try this place for breakfast while we were in town and came away super disappointed. I have a major food allergy, that if I eat something with MSG, mono sodium glutamate, I go into anaphylactic shock. I explained this to the girl at the counter who clearly had not been trained to take food allergies seriously and her response was "is that like a gluten allergy or something?" I told her what I was wanting to order after explaining again what it was and what it's typically in, she walked to the back area but I could still see her. Said god knows what because she clearly still did not understand the seriousness, comes back and says "we don't put MSG in our food." That's an alarm for me that you don't know what you're talking about because MSG comes in things that are prepackaged like dressings, gravy, batter mixes.... And that was it. No offer to get someone more educated on it to come talk to me, no offer to better explain how they make what I wanted or to actually review ingredients. A cute quaint breakfast spot (lunch options as well). Outside they're about 7 tables and a side table at entrance. They have a few doggie bowls outside so it's pet friendly. When you walk in, the menus are displayed on three monitors. You order at the register and then choose where you'd like to sit. They have a few tables inside should you choose to dine inside. I must add that I absolutely love their HLB sign outside. Very nice touch! The lady that dropped my food off at the table was friendly. She was more warm than the lady that took my order. This place is semi self serve. When they bring you your food, they ask if you need anything. After that, everything you need is just a hop,skip,and a jump inside. Parking is on site but limited. I chose to sit outside. Wanted to sit at a newer table near the front but they were either taken up or not clean off. But no biggie, I sat elsewhere. The food and coffee were ok. I had the hot chicken. It was cooked a little too long for my liking. It made the sides very hard and the meat chewy. However, It was a good portion size and the seasoning was tasty. I also had the eggs, breakfast potatoes, pancake, and iced coffee. They don't add seasoning to the eggs or potatoes but they do have salt and pepper available. They were unfortunately out of oj so I got coffee. Overall, I think I may have caught them on an off day.....hopefully. read more

They did not have the key lime pie which was featured in an image on their Yelp profile, but I give them good ratings, because the girl behind the counter politely directed me to a different bakery in town where key lime pie would be available. Silverware is sitting on the tables, in a container with the fork and knives exposed. Who really knows how many children or customers have touched and contaminated the eating utensils? This is clearly done for the convenience of the restaurant so they don't have to deliver utensils to the table. I would live to hear what the health department has to say about this issue. As a healthcare professional, I find this disturbing!!!! Employees are walking around the restaurant screaming the names of customers and looking frustrated when a customer is difficult to locate.
