This is my second time doing hot yoga at this studio with the same instructor and I can say that she is consistent. The pace is reasonable, but I feel like a more beginner-friendly class would be more my speed. I've done the 60-minute session both times and was told by regulars that the 90-minute class is a lot easier. I may try that out next to see if there's any truth to it. Can't say enough good things about this place! I got the 10-day trial offer for the studio to try bikram for the first time, and my, was it worth it! It's $40 for unlimited classes for 10 days. I was only in town for 5 of those days, but I made sure to make it worth the price! I took classes by 3 different instructors - the general flow is the same, although of course, it depends on the length of the class. I tried both the 60 and 90 minute classes - I personally enjoyed the 90 minute classes more because I felt I could melt deeper into the poses. 105 degree room, humid, hot and sweaty. There it is, bikram yoga. I love it. For Covid precautions, there is a designated IN door and EXIT door. Masks are required off the mat. Breathing is through the nose only. I thought that last one would be hard - it was at first, but not too much trouble! There are showers for those who don't want to go home all sweaty. read more

Come for the Hot Pilates! I repeat, check out the Hot Pilates! Monica and Sharan are great instructors, they make you feel welcomed, and know how to motivate you to take it to the next level. I even had moments of laughter. With the term "Inferno" I was intimidated to go but the temperature was controlled and very tolerable (don't let the site's description fool you - it isn't that hot and there are cool spots in the room - workout by the door or AC vent). I suffer from scoliosis (operated on) and I'm 4 months postpartum. Pilates and high intensity interval training (HIIT) are a great way to not over do it with your body and get the results that you're expecting. read more

The staff was rude, unwelcoming and made me want to leave. I stayed and continued to be disappointed. From a bad smelling room, to rude instructors - I was more stressed when I left than yoga should ever be. I called and emailed asking for a refund. A "thanks but it wasn't great" type ask. Nothing. This is my first time Yelping, and figured this would be the best way to get the word out there. I moved to Dallas from Austin back in March and was in need of a place to practice Bikram Yoga. Well, after doing a google search I decided I should try Bikram Yoga on Mockingbird, big mistake, huge! The staff was friendly enough when you enter the facilities, they were warm and inviting. However, once I started attending the regular classes offered I realized that the staff was not that friendly at all! At one point one of the instructors LAUGHED OUT LOUD at a poor woman who was having trouble holding her pose, not cool! It's one thing to have rapport with the instructor and joke back and forth but it's way awkward when that is not the case, the woman was clearly having trouble! The room also reeks! In all of my yoga experiences in Austin I never smelled such funk, seriously. It almost feels like your going to inhale some type of air-born parasite, its an unsanitary feeling. I am never going back. My friend Tricia recently introduced me to Sunstone Yoga (with locations all over the Metroplex) and I have to say, it kicks their tight yogi butt! Can't lie, it smells like wet dog in the studio. I thought no one else noticed, but one day an instructor commented on it and I felt so over joyed that someone was bringing it to attention. Not that it needed to be vocalized, we all know the smell is there. This was another groupon purchase for me. For a cheap month of yoga, it totally fits the bill. Classes are an hour and half long which is divided into two series, a standing series and a seated series. I honestly thought I was going to die in my first class. It really felt never ending, but after that initial one, the 90 minutes seem to go by much quicker. Classes fill up pretty quickly so its wise to get there before class time, or else you're scrambling for room in the back. I tend to like staying in the area where I can catch a draft from the exit door. The door of life, the little breezes from others leaving the room feel so good... It truly is a beating to get yourself to go, unless you're a true yogi freak, which is ok, I'm not judging. But for me, knowing I'm about to sweat my ass off in a stank ass room for 90 minutes just isn't appealing. I'm not going to say I "feel one with myself" or any of that hokey pokey stuff afterward, but I do feel pretty good. I like some instructors over others, but they all follow the same script. They use odd references like a "japanese ham sandwich." wtf is that? I have no clue. Some instructors get their left and right mixed up. They don't really move around the room except to prop the door open for a few minutes in between poses. So they aren't going to fix you if you are in a bad position. I have heard them call out suggestions a few times, but more often than not, just try to listen and do the best you can. Woman's dressing room is the far back one, I made the mistake of walking into the men's and I got an unsightly eyeful. Yick. If you are an early riser going to their 5:30 class, make sure to be on time! They lock the door at the start of that one and my ass had to go back home after being 2 minutes late. They have an intro rate as most studios do, give it a try. I don't really like that they only offer this one type of class but at the same time you can get to know the routine. read more

So this review is coming form someone who came here 20 times in 30 days. I have been doing yoga for years, but this was my first Bikram experience. I thought this was a cool place but turns out I just really like Bikram. But first let's focus on the positive. Half of the teachers were really cool. There is a wide variety of skill level, all of whom are very respectful of each other and hardly anyone ever leaves the room! LOVE. Some students look like they might be competitors and other use the ballet bar the entire class. One very older man comes in his underwear and pours water on his head. Maybe that's not a positive aspect. Onward. No reason a studio should smell this bad. A few times I actually took a step back because the smell was so strong. Supposedly smell receptors adapt after three minutes of a stimuli but this smell has proven otherwise. The other half of the instructors are rude and/or obnoxious. It is a prewritten script, hundreds of years old. But someone they can ruin it. Like using a condescending tone to correct students. Get off your pedestal if you are having so much trouble describing a pose (literally a pedestal) and take some time to TEACH it. Particularly annoying is one male instructor who also spent several minutes during MORE than one class bragging about how one of the girls in the class has not only come to tons of classes in a row but manages her busy SMU class and extracirricular....i don't CARE. Inspirational: cancer survivor, single mom, noble laureate....rich college kid--not. Furthermore its creepy coming from someone his age. Aaaaaaaand dressing room is too small and only one shower. Yet I will probably come back due to the lack of Bikram studios in the area. read more

After a hiatus from Bikram, I revisited this studio and was surprised that they now offered a consolidated 60 minute class, along with the usual 90 minute class, and that the West Village location was closed. The 60 minute class offers the same 26 postures, with only some being repeated. I prefer the standard 90 minute class, as it allows me sufficient time to get into each posture and to practice mindfulness. Each class is led by vocal instruction. Look to veterans for visual cues if you have any doubts. Remember to hydrate properly before class and to always listen to your body. Try to stay in class--take a seat with head above heart if you begin to feel lightheaded from the heat. Mat and towels are required but can be rented at the front desk. Bikram yoga is a challenge but gets progressively easier with each class. Put your mind, body, and spirit into your practice, and you'll reap the benefits. I am probably not the best critic when it come to Bikram Yoga Dallas/West Village. I have been practicing for over 5 years and is a part of my almost-daily routine. Since I've started, I have noticed a mental calm that I did not have before. It has also greatly improved my scoliosis. I used to only be able to sleep a certain way because of the multiple curvatures in my back. Now, I can sleep in any position and not wake up with back pain! I've noticed that some of the review talk about the instructors being a bit too much like disciplinarians. Though I do think yoga is a discipline (something that will eventually translate into your everyday life), I do not think they are too aggressive. They are giving detailed instructions on exactly how to do the yoga. All of the information they are giving is to maximize your yoga potential. I was in town for a week and I needed to continue my yoga fix while I was away from California. So about the same reviews for the BY-Dallas as well as BY-Richardson. I gave BYD since it was closer. One major bonus compared to other Bikram locations is that they have wooden floors, which eliminates the moldy smell. The $49 for one month was definitely a good steal. I am bringing this down to a THREE STAR from FOUR STAR only because of the lack of lockers; they've insisted that they have never had issues of theft, but does it take an incident to implement lockers? To trust that fellow Yogis won't go steal is a bit too far-fetched for me. read more

Hot yoga. 105 degree hot. The great thing about Bikram yoga is that it can be for anybody and everybody. It doesn't matter how old, if you are a man or woman, etc. I see all kinds of people in there which is awesome. There are set 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises based off the creator Bikram Choudhry which is the same every time as it is scripted. They guide you through the whole thing which can be from one to one hour and a half. One caveat though, you can't leave the room once you're in. If you need to take a break you can and they allow you to but they advise not to take a break unless you are dizzy or lightheaded or not feeling well. And also make sure to drink tons of water before you go there because you will drench yourself in sweat! There are some instructors I like and some I don't connect with. My favorite instructor was Julie. She is the friendliest one out of all of them and the most personable in my opinion. They change according to schedules. I liked going to the Uptown location but now they are closing it down and only keeping the Lakewood location which I'm not going to continue my membership but that doesn't mean that it's not good. What I love about Bikram yoga was that it was a great way to detox, great feeling on my spine, stretched my muscles, helped me get more flexible than I ever was, and helped me with my flat feet. Also, it builds strength which most people don't think about when they think about yoga but it requires a lot of it. I've seen the most muscular men in there and even they struggle with some of the poses! It is quite pricey though. You can get a intro month for like 49 dollars and then it'll be 100 dollars a month after. Check out Groupon they even have like 29 dollar initial month deals if they still have it. They have student rates you should ask about. For those beginner yogi's, make sure to bring a towel, mat, and a large bottle of water. If you don't have it then bring some extra money so you can rent their mats/towels for 2 dollars each. They have locker rooms and they sell water and kombucha on tap which is like the coolest thing I've seen. As for yoga clothes, make sure you wear a tank and shorts or a sports bra because it will be very hot. ;) read more

Not for beginners...not encouraging...not practicing yoga. The facilities are clean and staff is organized and professional. The instructors are arrogant drill sergeants who prefer to intimidate rather than teach and encourage. I've been practicing yoga for about a year and this place bastardizes the best part about yoga. Yoga is a personal practice, not a competition. Congratulations Birkram Yoga Dallas instructors! You are SO good at yoga, then again you do it for a living. I however have a different career. I promise if you sat at my computer during the work week and wrote out HTML code, I would be more understanding and less critical, than your yoga-higness is during a 105 degree 90 min beating. (yes, this is the "beginners class") I enjoy a yoga workout. It is precious to me. I leave physically fulfilled and emotionally lifted. You WILL NOT get that yoga experience at Yoga Birkram Dallas. I went twice during 24 hr. I figured I'd give it another try after my first awful experience. Nope, won't be back. Buy the $20 groupon, see for yourself. I'm surprised that the ratings for this studio aren't more positive! Bikram Yoga Dallas has been a staple of my life for nearly two years now and kickstarted my personal health & wellness. I wouldn't be where I am without my Bikram practice and I am so grateful for the great folks at BYD for the nudge in the right direction! First things first: a lot of more negative reviews of the studio mentioned the bad smell. Rest assured, the studio has long since been renovated with a new floor to fix the problem of the wet carpet smell. The renovated studio is large and the state-of-the-art heating system is amazing. There are no peaks & valleys in the heat, just consistent sweaty goodness. The instructors are really fantastic here. This is not a Bikram studio where you'll be yelled at or made to feel bad about yourself. This is a Bikram studio where the teachers take real interest in the lives, health, and practices of their students. There's a core of teachers who have been regulars at the studio for years and an ever-rotating group of traveling teachers from all over the world. I personally love that because you get to experience classes with different teaching styles. Even though the dialogue is the same in the classes, the different delivery & knowledge of each teacher will push you to new places in your practice. The changing rooms have 3 shower stalls and 2 toilets, as well as cubbies & hooks for stashing all your stuff. The lobby is filled with various yoga accoutrements and a cooler stocked with water and electrolyte-replenishing drinks like coconut water. Get to class early if you want a particular spot. The number of practitioners has picked up quite a bit recently and if you're rushing into class at the last minute, you're not going to get a spot in the front of the room. I love this studio and always recommend it to friends looking to pick up a yoga practice. It's not for everyone but give it ten classes and chances are that you'll be hooked. read more

If you are into the truest form of Bikram Yoga, this studio is worth a visit ... antimicrobial floors, H-Vac Ventilation - pumping fresh air at a consistent 105 degrees - thus the air in the room doesn't become stagnant, and nice locker rooms. Hands down the most important variable as to a quality Yoga Studio are the Teachers, and this studio is No joke. This studio has been my first bikram experience and I am very proud of what I have been able to accomplish, even though it has only been a few classes. From the perspective of a bikram newbie, I will say that each class is challenging but every instructor is different. I've been once for a 6:30 pm session, which was SO crowded... I think the body heat just made it so much hotter. There was simply no way for the instructor to help every single person either. I really like going to the 5:30 am sessions, but those really are a challenge to wake up for. The female teacher on Fridays and Saturdays really pushes you, which is good. The teacher on Mondays is good for people who are newer to bikram and don't want to feel so intimidated/pressured. I must agree that the stench in this place is ridiculous. Today I almost wanted to faint... because I was dehydrated, but also because I could not get over how bad the room smelled and how much bacteria must be multiplying in each of the fibers of the carpet. Secondly, since I got a free week coupon, I asked if I could sign up for a first-month membership and still get the $40 unlimited deal for my first month and they said no... since I'm not a beginner anymore. Obviously since I am an expert... Nevertheless, despite the fact that I am contemplating trying another studio just to get a better deal since money doesn't grow on trees in my world... I do think these teachers are interested in your improvement, especially the ones that teach in the morning. It's an amazing help for your body, no matter who you are. read more

I regularly practice yoga at Equinox but, decided to come to Bikram Yoga on a Lululemon community day. For the free the class, I was sure to show up plenty early but, to get a good spot in any class I also recommend showing up early. Located on the second floor, the facilities are great. There is a little store upfront with plenty of yoga goodies. Also, at the front is a wonderfully nice staff. They answered any questions I had and made sure I was comfortable for my first class. The locker room is decently sized with toilets, showers and lockers. I mention this as some yoga studios don't offer these amenities and after your Bikram class you'll definitely want a shower. Our instructor was Karen, who I think is also the owner. She welcomed everyone to class and got right down to business. I'll admit, I prefer vinyasa flow yoga over Bikram yoga but, I could tell that if you do like Bikram yoga this is the studio to do it at. read more

This studio is great! And first off this place is super clean! And thats super important when you are doing HOT yoga! The staff is the best! They make sure to ask you how you are doing when you first walk in, which I think its so important. Not feeling rushed in a place where you are coming to relax, and stretch is ideal when coming to yoga. This is an excellent Bikram studio. I've been to a bunch of them now, checked this one out while visiting from Los Angeles. It seems Bikram hasn't really caught on in Dallas (nor has Yelp, so that might tell you a few things), this studio is quite a way from downtown, I think the only other one around is North Dallas. Anyway, the facility is really nice and the studio culture is the way I like it, very disciplined. If you need to fidget and wiggle and make noise and randomly leave the room and break everybody else's concentration, try somewhere else. I usually do Bikram, but because this place is so far from downtown I thought I would try Sunstone. They also have a very nice facility but the yoga doesn't do it for me. It seems like their "Fire" series is just Bikram jumbled up enough to avoid a trademark infringement lawsuit, meanwhile they've removed the natural logic and intensity of the series. The "Earth" series didn't work for me at all, so I took the ride out to Bikram. The facility is clean and well maintained, I did not think it smelled at all. The carpet is relatively new. Everybody I talked to was helpful and friendly and the class was very welcoming to a first timer who was checking it out. I guess they are having a Christmas party so that tells me there is some sense of community there. David the co-owner (with his wife) is an awesome instructor, among the best I've had. If you do Bikram regularly and come to visit Dallas you will like this place a lot. Pay for the taxi, rent a car, do what it takes to get here you won't regret it. If you are new to this kind of yoga I suggest you give it a really good try, at least a week, to see what it does for you, I think you will find this a great place to start. So if you haven't tried Bikram before you should know what you are getting into before you knock it, people with certain kind of temperament might not like it, but physically almost anybody can do it, you just work into it. I love attending various Bikram Studios....This weekend I attended the July 3-4th classes & my first time attending this studio! Elene & Erika are friendly & great instructors! The class was insanely packed & loaded with an amazing amount of that Bikram Yogi energy!!! All of the instructors, staff, and students are extremely friendly AND "social" which I appreciate being a newcomer to Dallas. I love their Yogi gear & products, etc. The studio has a non intrusive lighting (say bye bye to seeing spots). Very spacious, clean & a nice steamy heat! The flooring is not carpet or squishy rubbery. Reminds me of a gym but not with the heavy glossy finish (sorry not the floor expert). I really enjoyed practicing here & I'm excited to continue. I've read about this location & they always seem to have workshops, yoga in the park, & other events within the community! Today they were giving out free juicy popsicles after the class. I've been practicing at BYD for 2 years now, and I love it. The studio is large, clean, and very modern looking. The floors are cleaned between every class, so no stench and no sitting in sweat puddles from the previous class. The new heating system is awesome - the room is a constant (hot) temperature, unlike other studios whose temperature can vary +/- 10 degrees during class. You can really focus on the yoga instead of the temperature fluctuation. The instructors are friendly and always willing to coach you toward better form, regardless of how long you've been practicing. Bikram yoga follows a scripted dialog, so you do the same postures in every class. Trust me though, it never gets boring. The instructors may sound strict and demanding at times - they're just trying to push you a little. You'll grow to love the encouragement. I had never done yoga before trying Bikram. It was tough at first, but the instructors will get you through it. I've seen extremely out of shape 70-year-olds take this class and love it. You'll survive, I promise. And if you stick with it you'll see some pretty awesome results. read more

Let me say first off that I do believe Bikram is not for everyone, this cost me $50 to learn but its good to know. I purchased the $49 groupon, I have been to Vinyasa before, pretty consistently in fact so I'm not totally out of shape and was excited to try this out. My first class the instructor tried to call me out on one of my positions, not cool at all. Be aware of who is brand new to your class and dont berate them, I appreciate that its a class and that they are their to instruct but there are ways of doing this with positive tone and encouragement-as was my experience the second class I went too, that instructor was great and gave me helpful feedback but I think that's because she recognized me, I made a point to tell the first instructor that I didn't appreciate his "direction" after my first class. I've been to lots of yoga studio's in DFW and I find there are two kinds of instructors, the experience yogis and the form yogis-the experience yogis are those that are full of love and are supportive-pleasant happy people that want you to enjoy and get the most out of your yoga experience-Im not saying that they dont take it all seriously, they do, but during the class and after they never make students feel like they are lacking or intimidate them. The form yogis I know are super knowledgeable but they are all about the form and the dedication to the pose and they remind me of drill sergeants which is funny, because the idea behind yoga and the way its supposed to make you feel is kind of the opposite of that. These form yogis are great for those advanced students but its a real downer for people that are new or for people that are perhaps not physically able to do all the poses. The experience yogis are happy to see me and they want me there, I look for studio's that have this type of instructor=this means the studio needs to have more than one type of class, i.e. beginner or advanced. I find that most studio's have each type of instructor so you really have to experience and find out which instructor is for you. Unfortunately the form yogis at this studio got me on the first class and he made quite an impression, maybe if I'd had that nice experience yogis twice I'd have gone back a third time. But that coupled with the length of the class turned me off and I did not return. I think if they had an hour long class I would have been able to use my groupon and hang longer, or a beginner class maybe? The 90 minutes in the hot room was just too much for me so I never went back after my second class, wasted my groupon which leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Both visits afterwards I was sick, I had chills and headaches. I did really liked the movement and the flow and felt like if I could just hang for a few more classes I may actually like it but 90 minutes was just too long. I notice other Bikram places in DFW offer shorter classes so maybe I will try that out at a different studio. read more

105 degrees. 40 percent humidity. 26 poses in 90 minutes. Hardcore! This is not for the faint of heart yogi. Okay, so I've been practicing yoga for many years, mostly power/vinyasa style is my bend and stretch of choice. I have tried a handful of Sunstone classes (the Fire 90 series) and they were just okay. Now I decided it was time to up the heat a bit and check out Bikram! The studio has been renovated and it's very spacious and clean. There are showers in the restrooms for you to rinse off after. You sign in and place your mat down with towels. Bring your own towels and water with ICE! You will need it for sure during this workout. The poses are wonderful and stretch every part of your body. I will say the FIRST class is kind of an icebreaker! I wasn't a big fan the first time. My advice is to go back the very next day! The 2nd time was like night and day. You definitely get some feel good endorphins after bracing the heat. Honestly the hardest part is just staying in the room. The poses are manageable. Just think yoga in a sauna! Love this studio, a regular part of my (almost) daily life. I've gotten to know many of my teachers and fellow students. Bikram is a wonderful practice to stay healthy and fit. There's something very special about the heat, humidity and movements - your joints are not taxed and it really strengthens your mind and body. I joined Bikram Yoga Dallas 12 days ago and just completed my 8th class this morning. I have been active my whole life and typically thrive on cardio or sports. I am already seeing changes in both my body, mind and emotional state related to practicing bikram. I have taken classes with 4 different instructors and all have been wonderful, especially Tom who has taught most of my classes. I got to meet one of the owners, Karen, this morning and she was very welcoming and seemed as if she really cared about her students. The atmosphere here is encouraging no matter where you are at in your practice and you're always being pushed to do your very best. I enjoy being here despite feeling light headed, nauseous or dizzy at some point throughout every class. The prices are very reasonable and I will definitely be signing up for the month to month plan once my intro month expires. The facility is clean and it doesn't smell bad since they don't have carpeted floors. I couldn't have asked for a better Bikram experience! Things I've learned as a new student: - make sure you bring plenty of water! and with ice in it if possible - breathe in and out through only your nose when you aren't doing the breathing exercises and it will be a lot easier - don't eat 3 hours before class read more
