What a lovely visit to Gaige House! I've always wanted to come here but never got the chance. I took advantage of my credit card points and was able to book two nights in the Ryokan Creekside suite. It was such a peaceful experience and I was happy to be surrounded with nature. Check-in process was easy. All the staff members were so kind and welcoming! I had a quick tour of the property and was shown to my room. There is free breakfast every day from 8 am to 10 am and wine hour from 4:30-5:30 pm. There's also different sakes and wines you can taste in the common area. We took advantage of the marble tub and soaked in it a couple of times. It was soo relaxing. The creekside view and atrium was a nice touch! It reminded me of Japan so much! The only complaint is the bed...it wasn't comfortable and I felt like I was sinking into it. Tips- there's no microwave in the room, but there is a fridge. Bring snacks and food you don't need to heat up. There's no room service and there's limited restaurants in Glen Ellen so you may need to drive to Sonoma for food. read more

Very much recommend this bed and breakfast! We stayed in one of the Ryokan inspired rooms over the long July 4th weekend and had such a restorative weekend! The location is serene and quiet, and the staff were incredibly helpful! I highly recommend the creek side ryokan rooms since they feel particularly secluded. The gigantic bathroom and fluffy robes were the highlight of the room! The bathroom comes with a giant soaking tub that can fit two and double showers! The room wraps around a zen courtyard garden, which is such a nice touch. The pool was so relaxing and everyone was respectful and quiet. We also took advantage of the onsite spa to get a couples massage. Breakfast was good but food was relatively average. The afternoon social wine and cheese hour was very nice and delicious. I would give Gaige House more than 5 stars if that was an option. We had such a wonderful stay here from beginning to end. The stellar service started before check in. In the morning, I received a text asking when we expected to arrive. I confirmed our arrival time, and around noon I received a text that our room was ready and that we could check in early. This communication allowed us to check in earlier than we had planned and enjoy some relaxing time by the pool and in the hot tub before our dinner reservation. Check in was a breeze and we enjoyed a complimentary glass of champagne while we were offered a tour of the property. Is there a better way to start a trip than with a glass of champagne?!?! We stayed in the Gaige House King Room, which was modern and upscale but comfortable - plush robes in the closet, an Illy coffee station, wall-mounted TV with chromecast enabled, complimentary water bottles, and a spacious bathroom with luxurious toiletries, and an enormous jetted tub. Our stay at Gaige House was marked by many thoughtful touches that elevated our experience. One of those was the wine happy hour from 4:30 to 5:30. We enjoyed a refreshing glass of rosé and snacked on some yummy charcuterie. I appreciated that they had a gluten free cracker option, veggies and hummus, olives in addition to the regular meats and cheeses you'd expect. I found the happy hour food offerings to be unexpectedly good. Shout out to the super tasty olives and salume - yum! I'd also note that the room where the happy hour is held contains several games to play while you sip - Jenga, mancala, a wooden tic tac toe, chess and others. Another nice little touch is that they put out giant cookies in the entryway. I took an oatmeal raisin one for a midnight snack after dinner and it was delicious. A stay at Gaige House also comes with a hot breakfast served from 8 to 10 am. It was very well done. There was plenty hot coffee, juice, fresh fruit, eggs, pancakes, a variety of breads and coffee cake, overnight oats and yoghurt. I loved that they also had a little mimosa station set up with juice and fresh fruit. We so throughly enjoyed our stay here, we will look for opportunities to return again in the future. read more

So I did a quick 2 day 2 night weekend - Monday getaway. They were offering a special on the website . I think it was 30% as long as you completed the stay before March 31st The location and room sets the tone for the vacation. If you are like me, my life is chaotic on a normal day, so I really needed to disconnect for a few days. The have many options for rooms but the one I was in the Ryoken Zen Creekside Room . In the bathroom there was double robes, small toiletries and a huge soaking tub and sinks. Our fridge was stocked with sake, macarons, glass bottled water, a full size bottle champagne and a variety of tea. The room table had a beautiful heave tea set for serving. Hot water was dispensed though the faucet at the bar area. I. Had a back area with lounge chairs to sit out and listen to the creek. In addition there was a separate central area you could have your slider open on the bed side or tub side and listen to the waterfall feature without actually accessing the outside. Romantic and relaxing ! think they were made from stone, maybe granite , but absolutely gorgeous! Overall it was a beautiful property . Had one hiccup with the toilet but maintenance came the next a.m. and fixed while we had breakfast. When you arrive there is wine hour in the room across from the check in desk. It includes wine , a charcuterie variety platter and sake if you're so inclined. They also have fresh baked cookies in the hallway for you to grab and take. I did not say no LOL. Breakfast is included every morning . The Four Sister's Company owns several locations, that is on my list to check out in the near future ! read more

So six years later, we took a chance as they were having a winter special during the week for an amazing price. This time we could not have asked for a better stay! I don't know if they've changed hands in the intervening years or what went on, but every single moment we had there was perfect. As we are older and still Covid conscious, we made p requests of them to interact as little as possible, and that we would stay masked indoors. Every staff member was incredibly gracious about our requirements, and understood that we took our breakfasts and wine hour outside, even though it was a bit cold. They sent housekeeping to just refresh our room each day quickly while we aired it out. A lot of places would not go that extra mile, so we really appreciated it. Aside from that, the grounds are beautiful, the room was incredibly spacious, and the bed was especially comfortable for the two of us with bad backs! The breakfast changes up the hot food each day, but there's always cereal, yogurt, and every kind of toast you might imagine. Coffee and Tea are always available as it filtered water. It was a bit chilly to use the pool, but it is heated every day. This was a birthday treat, and I felt incredibly cared for and every need we had was attended to. We got a room with a soaking tub, which I have to say we got a lot of view out of. If you stay definitely request one of those. What an amazing little spot! Right after I booked our reservation, guest services called to see if we had any questions or needed help with any bookings. Upon my request, they emailed me a list of wineries and restaurants that they recommend in the area. My husband and I spent Mothers' Day weekend here and had the perfect stay! From beginning to end, the service was top notch! We were greeted by Pam, and another lovely woman (forgot her name) with big friendly smiles and complimentary sparkling wine! They gave us a quick tour of the grounds and showed us the lovely lounge where they had complimentary sake, port, and cookies for all their guests. At 4:30pm they had a little happy hour with a beautiful charcuterie board and 4 wines to choose from. They have a nice little complimentary breakfast as well! Our room (The Glen Ellen King) was comfortable and had this amazing oversized jetted tub. They provided the most comfortable robes I've ever worn, and the beds were pretty comfy too! The pool area and jacuzzi were well kept and the perfect place to unwind. We were also walking distance to the Glen Ellen Star, a Michelin recommended restaurant, with fantastic food! This is one of the very best ryokan style b&bs in the US. The architecture resembles a quiet, elegant ryokan in Kyoto... The suite is wonderfully designed - even with a zen garden and place to relax with trees and flowers. Every thoughtful touches were considered... from the room furnishings to the small touches - such as bottled water left in the fridge. Gorgeous building surrounded by Japanese maples and birdsong. It's in a residential neighborhood and the driveway is easy to miss if you're not looking for it. My wife and I stayed for two nights in the Gaige House King room for our 10th anniversary. On our check-in day, they actually texted us that our room was ready early, which was really nice as we did make good time on our drive up and were already in the neighborhood. Kat at the front desk checked us in, and was friendly and helpful throughout our stay. I was worried that the attention to design would be given only to the suites, and that the more basic rooms would be an afterthought, but that was not the case; our room was beautiful despite (or maybe because of) the minimalist decor. I appreciated that so many things were mechanical - the blinds stay up by wrapping the string around a hook, and there's even an actual key to unlock the door with a charming hammered metal tag on the key ring! (The front door key that gets you into the building was a little wonky - it's one of those where you have to pull up on the doorknob while turning the key so that the locking mechanism lines up. You'll figure it out.) The room was huge, and we were particularly impressed by the spaciousness of the bathroom; we could both get ready in the morning without being cramped. Our room had a hot tub big enough for both of us with basic jet functions, which we took advantage of after a big dinner our second night; the hotel even provided bath salts in the room. Interestingly, the handheld showerhead dispensed hotter water than the overhead one, so be sure to play around with the shower controls a bit if you're having a similar issue. The bathrobes are plush and comfortable and hooded, and you get slippers too! They left us a couple macarons and a card as an anniversary gift, which was a nice touch. The hotel itself provides a lot of food. They do a wine and cheese hour from 4:30 - 5:30 in the game room (where you can play mancala, go, and chess, if you're interested.) The wine, sourced from rotating local vintners, is pedestrian and probably not of interest to connoisseurs, but it's at least two cuts above Yellow Tail, and it's really nice that they provide it. Alongside it, they serve a charcuterie board which was pretty decent and definitely helped tide us over until dinner our first night. The best treats, though, were the ones that were provided all day - you can help yourself to port (ruby or tawny) or sake at any time, and there are giant, soft, fresh cookies in the foyer. They'll even chill the sake for you if you ask. There's a breakfast served in the common area every morning from 8-10 AM. I encourage you to think of it as a really good continental breakfast rather than a lower-quality restaurant breakfast. The hot food gets held in a chafing dish. The breakfast serves its function (that function being to allow you to go wine tasting at noon without getting totally sloshed). Our first day they served a red bell pepper egg strata with cheese biscuits; our second day was cheesy breakfast potatoes with poached eggs and link sausages. Both days they provided granola, overnight oats, and a selection of fruit, bread, and pastry. There's also a DIY mimosa station, if you want a socially acceptable way to drink at 8:00 in the morning. A minor note: all the food is served in the main house, so if you're staying in one of the suites that's not in the main house, you'll have to actually walk outside briefly in order to get to it, whereas if you're in one of the rooms that is in the main house, you can just wait until the absolute last minute to roll out of bed, throw on a hoodie, and make your way downstairs. The pool and lounge are nice, set on a lower level than the main house and surrounded by foliage. We enjoyed lounging next to the fire pit on the patio while we ate our breakfast. There's a nice fountain around the side of the house, and there are a few different common areas where you can unwind. The whole place is just built for relaxation. My strong advice if you stay here is to avoid the temptation to overschedule yourself with wine tastings and meals. Instead, leave some time just to enjoy the hotel spaces. On our full day in the hotel, we didn't actually leave until 3:00 PM save for a walk around town, and it was fantastic. We spent like half an hour sipping coffee together and looking out the window at the birds and the trees. Gaige House is a pleasant place to stay, tucked away in a quiet part of the county; it's a bit far from some of the more well-known wineries and restaurants, but I think that's kind of the idea. read more

Ended 2022 at one of my favorite hidden gems in Glen Ellen. This was my third stay at Gaige House and it didn't disappoint! Our previous stays happened during covid. We throughly enjoyed all the sanitary and safety precautions at the time. Fast forward to now something's have changed and we were able to enjoy Gaige House differently. When we arrived for check in we were greeted by a rep from a local winery in Glen Ellen pouring wine. The complimentary cheese, wine and sake was a nice touch. They had a big assortment of cheese and fruit and we decided to hang out in the lounge area and enjoy a glass of wine before we headed to our room. All the times we've stayed we've chosen one of the Zen Suites. I wish I would have taken more pictures of the suites we've stayed in. The suites are very ample, tastefully decorated and peaceful. Each suite has a beautiful soaking tub and patio with a meditation garden. The Japanese inspired decor feels luxurious and unique. There were multiple sets of robes and slippers to use. Amenities are Okay but I wish there was more of a drink/snack assortment in the room. Room service/reception closes down early and Gaige House isn't located within walking distance to a restaurant or convenience store. (Knowing this we've always come prepared.) For breakfast I was a bit of a let down this time around. We paid an extra charge to have breakfast delivered to our room and the food ended up being cold. Breakfast was yogurt, orange juice, coffee, potatoes and a breakfast burrito. The last stays we had included much better breakfasts but none the less, still a good stay. Booking online was smooth, we booked directly through the website and paid in full up front, part of our room rate included a bottle of wine which we never got... it was a bummer to skip out on the wine but I had no complaints because they complimentary upgraded our suite. Overall: 8/10. The Gaige House is unlike any other stay I've had in Sonoma County due to the Japanese inspired aesthetic. On a whim, we decided to make a last minute reservation here. So glad we did. We got to the Gaige house a bit early so I room wasn't quite ready. We were shown around and invited to have some sake and port while we wait. We sat out on the deck next to the fireplace, which was perfect since it was a bit chilly. Their cookies were out so we grabbed a cookie and some port and enjoyed the Fireplace and view. We were given a bottle of champagne and shown to the Creekside room. It was very nice. Bed was very comfortable. Great pillows too. Robes and slippers were available. We went to the jacuzzi which was very warm and relaxing. Didn't go in the pool, but it was heated. Went to dinner at Glen Ellen Star. It's a must go if you're staying around the area. The staff at the Gaige house was very nice and helpful. Inside the house they have different rooms which are fun to look through. They had a game room with instructions for the various games. Wine/port room with fireplace and breakfast area were nice and clean. Complementary Breakfast was nice. We had breakfast burritos. Where do I start? This place is everything they say they are and more! Such a beautiful location tucked away in the charming Glen Ellen. Such a cozy boutique hotel/B&B with Asian inspired touches throughout the grounds and rooms. I admit I was drawn to the "Endless Summer" special with the additional bonuses such as discounted room rates, two VIP tastings at two different wineries, welcome bottle of wine and sake, as well as hot breakfast, wine and cheese hour and port/sake in the evening! This place had so many bonuses that I couldn't pass up. The rooms were gorgeous and we had an outdoor private patio with cute Asian charm! The bathroom was spacious. They also had Japanese slippers you can wear inside your room. The staff were amazing and attentive! We mostly corresponded via text which I liked and they were quick to answer any questions or concerns I had. They even made the reservations for our tastings. Breakfast was hot and they had different options. I do wish they had more meat items but I guess I can't complain. Wine and cheese hour had various white and red wines, cheese, crackers and olives. Very homey feels with lots of complimentary items -- all day port/sake, wine HH which featured wines that were even better than our wine tastings and charcuterie board, hot breakfast (wasn't amazing but still good). The grounds are small but beautiful and it wasn't crowded during our stay so easy to park and get in and out of the hotel. read more

- Gaige House is a cute B&B tucked away in Sonoma County, but it's within driving distance from town. - i stayed in the main building near the front desk and at night you'll likely hear doors slamming shut and faint talking and steps for those in the building. If you're looking for peace and quiet, maybe try one of the suites. - Upon my checking in there were stains on the sheets that I requested be changed. They were quick and attentive, but then I noticed a long strand of hair on the second set of towels in my bathroom. - The room was dusty (especially on the headboard and the nightstands) and questions how thorough they wipe and clean down the rooms. Luckily I bring Lysol and Clorox wipes everywhere I travel because the remote control was disgusting with a build up of dirt and dust (i honestly wish i had taken a picture). - Overall, if you're looking to get out of the hustle and bustle from the city and it's surrounding areas this is a remote location and relatively quiet. read more

Unlike others on this page that have reviewed Gaige House, my stay here was paid for so I can't really speak to how I feel about getting my money's worth or it being overpriced. What I can say is that I greatly enjoyed my relaxing one night stay here. My room was incredibly spacious. The suites here are Japanese inspired and mine came with a nice, quaint zen garden that I enjoyed just standing in and turning my brain off. The real highlight of the suite was, weirdly, the restroom. Having a double shower to get doubly cleaned up in was nice but what was better was the large soaking tub that I could relax in afterwards. It takes quite awhile to fill up so I took myself showering before letting myself soak in the hot tub. It was an incredibly relaxing time, made better by the complimentary bottle of sake that was in my fridge. A fun little thing I would recommend is enjoying a hot bath in the morning because the tub is right next to a sliding door that leads to the zen garden. I slid it open while soaking in the tub and it was a euphoric experience with the hot water relaxing my body in conjunction with the cool natural morning air. There was also an hour in the afternoon where in the dining hall I was provided with a nice snack box with different cheeses, crackers and grapes. During this time, the dining hall provided bottles of wine and sake that guests could pour for themselves. Far be it from me to turn down self served drinks. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Gaige House and would happily come back again in the future. Glen Ellen might not be the most exciting place in the world to vacation at but it doesn't need to be for me. I love the vibe and style of the whole place, sort of a modern/minimal aesthetic with a Japanese influence. The pool area is especially relaxing and is right next to the creek for added ambiance. We decided to spoil ourselves for a quick, intimate getaway to Sonoma, and as soon as I found Gaige House, I knew we'd be in for a treat. My partner and I have both been to Japan and stayed at traditional ryokans, so we were happy to have had a slice of that nearby. We opted for the garden view suite with the in-room soaking tub. The large, granite tub has plenty of room for two, but do be careful when stepping in. My husband almost slipped right out like in a cartoon. There is a rubber mat that's rolled up under the sink to use, so I'd recommend placing that in there before you get in. The garden view and central atrium was so lovely. They also had two lounge chairs outside the garden for guests to enjoy, but it was raining during our trip, so we weren't able to enjoy that. The room comes stocked with two bottles of water and one bottle of sake. Sake and wines are also offered in the main inn, so that was nice to get to sample different kinds too. We also spent some time in their great room, which had a number of different games and a lovely fireplace. Each morning's breakfast was a perfect start to our day. Context: we stayed two nights in the Ryokan Zen garden suite for our honeymoon. The room was beautiful, the vibe serene and quiet, and we thoroughly enjoyed the large tub in our room. No complaints about the room, although the ants that arrived (as described on the placard) seem like a solvable problem. The location is also great, and we were able to hit up our favorites such as Glen Ellen Star for dinner within a short walk. Unfortunately, the hospitality was absolutely nonexistent, and might I say cold the entire stay. Given that we chose the Gaige House to celebrate our honeymoon, we were hoping to have, or to at least be able to order a little something special -- chocolates? Flowers? A small bottle to enjoy? Even just a verbal acknowledgment or small note would have been better than the nothing we received. In fact, when we tried to arrange something, we were told to look at the wine list by the bar. No acknowledgment or congratulations from any of the staff, which was sorely disappointing and very different than every other place we attended. Sonoma seems to do hospitality very well, so we're not sure what happened here at Gaige House as it was a definite outlier compared to everywhere else we visited, and totally missed the mark. They didn't even respond to the third email asking if we could arrange something (anything?) At $800/night, you'd expect a little more attention to detail for the guest experience or even warmth, none of which we had here. I'm not sure I would recommend this place for a visit, as the value doesn't seem to match the price paid with the abysmal service. Definitely not for a special occasion as they seem not to understand how one might want to do something special. Even a small handwritten, or verbal "congrats!" would have been nice. We booked a last minute 2-night stay for our anniversary since our previous plans were cancelled due to the Walbridge fire. Luckily they were having a 30% off summer special at the time we booked so we got a great deal on one of the Ryokan Zen Garden suites. We primarily communicated with the hotel via text message which was convenient and they always responded promptly. They even sent us a text prior to our check in time letting us know that our room was ready. When we arrived, we checked in at the front desk and they gave us our key along with a wine and cheese box. Our room was beautiful and so spacious with high ceilings and working AC. There was soft music playing in our room when we arrived. The zen garden suite has a little zen garden in between the bedroom and bathroom. Lots of windows and natural light, and the huge soaking tub was a total dream. There are also two shower heads and sinks, complete with body wash, shampoo and conditioner. We had no issues with cleanliness, the room was well kept and clean when we arrived but we also wiped everything down as well. The room has a decent sized mini fridge and the little kitchenette area had a sink with both hot and cold water. The fridge wasn't very cold but still did the job. They also had a complimentary bottle of sake waiting for us inside the fridge. There is a vegetarian breakfast every morning from 8-10am and we simply texted them that we were ready for breakfast and they would drop it off in front of our room. They included add ons such as coffee, orange juice, fruit, yogurt, etc. Breakfast was great, we had quiche, scrambled eggs, pancakes, and croissants during the two days. Due to covid, their hot tub and spa wasn't open but their pool was still available for use. The only downfall of our stay was there ended up being a small trail of ants near the fridge area, but we texted guest services and they sent us some ant spray along with a cloth to wipe it down. Minor inconvenience but didn't bother us too much since it wasn't a huge trail. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at The Gaige House, the hotel is elegant and modern and reminded us of Japan. We booked Gaige House way in advance because of its glorifying reviews, beautiful shots on the website and more on Instagram so we were set on staying here but to really be honest, I wish we had booked the other well known hotel in Glen Ellen. Paid $2.5K for 3 night stays. We wanted what was said on the website instead of accepting rules changing day by day. Do they offer us the " Breakfast for 2" every morning? Sure. The contactless room service and our breakfast showed up within 30 mins after texting. NICE. Everything was packed neatly in these Japanese bento boxes and some glass jars filled with fruits and yogurt. Beautiful and eco-friendly, love that! However, this great experience only happened once the first morning of our stay. The rest of the trip? We were told to get our breakfast from the hall room which we didn't mind, but just a tad disappointed. They seemed to have the same food the day after so we skipped. The wine & Cheese Mini Picnic that we thought was supposed to be the early PM, but it didn't happen until 5-6 pm so yea we already planned our day and missed that as well most days. If you expected the yukata, yup, that lived up to their promise. How about the Japanese sandals? Nope. We were told when we got there that they stopped doing that because of Covid. They gave you these flimsy white ones instead. Ryokan Zen Creekside Suite is HUGE. The decor is beautiful while having this little garden between the bedroom and the bathroom. The granite deep soaking tub was as big and beautiful as everyone raved about and it almost made me feel like we paid $$$ for the soaking tub. The double shower had some issues with the knobs -- the one on the left was loose and came off on the first day the second I tried to turn it on. So I checked the 2nd one on the right, that one worked with force -- great workout I guess. The water pressure was so low that I wanted to be as quick as possible but it didn't happen so I had to use the faucet near the tub instead and that one needed a little force to turn the knob as well which frustrated me. It was like did anything work around here!? The bathrobe and towels are Coyuchi which I'm a fan of. The first set of towels were not all hard, some were soft but the 2nd set sent to our room on our last day -- they were quite hard like they could use some fabric softener seriously and a couple of them were smelly. You know? The smell when you didn't wait until your laundry done and put away too quickly and it turned out smelly. Yup, that smell. The living room/bedroom was very nice & the loveseats were comfortable and next to the fireplace. So great points for those plus the chilled sake made it a little better. We had a king size bed which it was more comfortable on my husband's side, mine was quite lumpy. My pillow was also quite flat. At first I thought maybe it was just the strange feeling when you were not in your own bed but yea I woke up with a sore neck and back so it was the bed and pillow. Because of Covid and them being environmentally conscious, no one would come in to clean or change bed sheets and towels etc and I discovered the next day that the comforter didn't even have a duvet cover, it was practically wrapped like a sandwich with the top sheet on the bottom and another one over the comforter. It took me 2 days to discover the visible dark stain on it. YIKES. What annoyed me the most was the " ANTS" and they came after the caramel sweets that were gifted by the hotel. We didn't think to hide them before we left the room because who would have expected a visit from ants!? We let the hotel staff know the very next day and they said they would send someone in while we were out. Did the ants leave afterwards? Nope. I woke up to one occupying my phone and the other walking up and down the night stand very up close and personal. I was relieved that was the only place they were hanging out and not in our bed. It was quite sad that we had to make sure we ate anything as far away from the room so we didn't bring more ants in. So we didn't get to use the private patio much except to enjoy the nature for a bit. Avoid booking Monday and Tuesday, or just go out as much as possible because the constant lawn mowing and vacuuming noises made it less zen. We had to hurry out because we couldn't stand it and luckily we had made plans to be out of the room everyday before noon. Do we want to come back anytime soon? Probably not. We were out 2.5K and the overall offers weren't really up to par. This was our anniversary trip and we decided to splurge and sadly, the hotel didn't quite deliver. My best advice, change all the details on the website so guests know what they are actually getting. I really do hope that they listen to their customers and what they have to say. We were SO excited to visit this cute, little bed and breakfast spot during our stay in Sonoma, but we left quite disappointed with the overall experience. The pictures made the stay look super elaborate, comfortable, and luxurious but it wasn't even close! We chose the King Suite (room 9) and we were shocked how old and rundown the room looked. It was also super noisy since we were below a flight of stairs. Furthermore, the air conditioning in our room was very loud and hard to ignore at night. We were hoping the cheese and wine they were hyping about in the description would be substantial, but it was literally three slices of cheese on a paper plate with one can of wine. We couldn't have been more disappoint The breakfast was probably the most disappointing. They gave us eggs and pancakes in cafeteria trays. The pancake I received wasn't even cooked all the way...hmm. Furthermore, they were super stingy with the "complimentary water," and we had to call several times just to get one bottle. I really hope this is just an unusual experience for us given COVID restrictions and no pool access available, but overall I don't see myself coming back or recommending it to others. read more

I called Gaige house and the woman I spoke to was not very helpful. When I mentioned the above website, she said "I don't see it on our website, it must be a third party". I told her to Google "pet policy Gaige house" and she couldn't "find" that either. I then told her that the reason I had booked the hotel in the first place was because of the pet policy, and she said "you can cancel". And so I did. My wife and I stayed here for a couple nights recently. We can't wait to come back! The property is lovely and has a very small boutique feel to it. We especially appreciated the amenities such as the game room, open dessert wine/sake tasting, and wine and cheese time daily. We stayed in the creek side zen suite which was amazing. The only issue we encountered was a neighboring group of guests who brought some very bass heavy sound equipment and partied late into the evening with music loud enough to reverberate through the structure from their room to ours. Fortunately guest services was very responsive in attempting to help and in the end made the situation right. A+ for customer service. We highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a relaxing ryokan! read more

Loved our stay at the Gaige Ryokan! The interior is impeccable and cozy, the bamboo-laden exteriors feel private and quaint. The breakfast delivery is convenient and filling. We took advantage of the gorgeous pool in the morning (it was empty - we had the whole thing to ourselves). We also loved the complimentary toiletries (I even texted the owner to ask where they were from - they made our hair and skin feel super soft). Restaurants are a short walk away (we loved the food at the Glen Ellen Star). They are being very COVID-safe. Havent really had time to myself since being pregnant and giving birth in 2018. Idk what a good night sleep even is anymore. The bestie took me here last night (Jan4-5, 2021) and it was wonderful. Huge rooms, the outdoor space is amazing! I especially loved how open the space was and yet the privacy it provided. Tub was huge...like huge! Took a bath twice! Beautiful views as our garden faced the creek behind the house. Covid friendly. Easy contactless check in. Wine and cheese provided along with a pretty decent breakfast in the morning, both delivered to your door! Really enjoyed myself and hope to bring my fiancé here soon. We stayed in the creekside suite for our baby moon and LOVED our experience. Check in was super smooth, and they were nice enough to serve non alcoholic beverages at wine/cheese hour. The room has a great inside/outside blend. The bath tub with the salts was soo amazing, loved the bathroom and the view from the room into the jungle type setting - so private and quiet. The breakfast was served in the room and had a great mix of an entree, toast/croissant, yogurt-granola, fruits, juice and coffee. I loved their coffee. There was a TV in the room and wifi too, along with a bose speaker you could connect via bluetooh. The bed was a tad uncomfortable, but overall great stay. read more

Poor customer service. Rundown spaces, needs quite a bit of general up keep. Been here twice in the last two years and everything that was in poor repair two years ago was still in poor repair. The pool was not cleaned once in the 6 days we were there, nor were the surrounding areas. Debris and bird droppings on the outdoor furniture. Our first visit to Sonoma, and we booked this place due to the high ratings on Yelp! We booked a King - room online for 2 nights, and put in the Notes to be "near the pool/walking distance" (since we have a 5 month old baby) On the day of our arrival, they placed us upstairs in the made building, far away from the pool. The flight of stairs would make it difficult to bring in all our stuff (portable crib, baby stuff-diapers/milk bottles/etc, luggage, etc). However, this was fine since perhaps the other guests had asked first. Something else to note - we booked the King Deluxe as the website description mentioned a private entrance. Apparently this isn't always true. Per the receptionist, they said unfortunately all the King rooms near the pool were currently all booked, and offered to put us in a Queen room instead. At least it would be on the first floor, closest to the pool. We accepted the downgrade to accommodate with the baby. When we got to our Queen-room (#11), we were shocked of how bad it was. A few things to note for Room#11: 1.) Dirty Sheets: after finding a (coffee?) stain on the bed, we began to question how sanitary the room was. 2.) Dirty Pillows: after seeing the stain on the sheets, we flipped the pillows over to see if it's dirty too. Unfortunately, we found black stuff (IDK what it is) on the back of the pillow, in addition to a large dead fly. 3.) Broken Fridge: We needed a fridge to store the baby's milk. Unfortunately, the fridge didn't work-it did not keep things cold. 4.) AC didn't work: we thought it was just a slow AC, so we left the room to grab dinner for 2 hours. When we came back, the room was still hot (even when the AC was at its highest setting). 5.) Flies: for some reason, room #11 attracted so many bugs (we found at least 20 flies)! We spent the first 30 minutes killing the flies on the wall with a newspaper. This was such a waste of time! When we came back from dinner, another twenty had made their way in. 6.) Mirror had black stains: the bathroom mirrors has black water marks on it. At first I thought they were flies, since so many were already in the room. We tried to be mindful, that maybe it was just an "off" day, but there were just too many issues. When we requested to either have a different room, or to cancel our second night, they said that they did have a King room available, on the first floor & close to a pool (which was what we originally requested for). We then dragged our luggage to the other side of the building to a King room (#9) - which was significantly better! The AC worked, the mattress was softer, there was maybe one small fly, there was a private entrance, and the overall room felt cleaner. Otherwise, the property was nice - we enjoyed the pool and hot tub, staff was polite, cookies/cheese tasted good (although to some the appearance may be disappointing based off the website description slightly overselling this point), and we definitely took advantage of the wine hour and late-night sake & ports (wine). While we likely will not be staying here again, we do imagine that most of the rooms on the property are nice and well maintained, but for the price we'd rather not gamble (or maybe just avoid room #11!) read more
