We came to town for a wedding and were so pleasantly surprised by this charming hotel! It looks recently renovated, with a fresh, modern feel throughout. The bathrooms, in particular, were beautifully updated--stylish, spotless, and spacious. Check-in was quick and easy, and we appreciated the ample onsite parking. One of the highlights was the saloon-style restaurant right on the property, which served tasty food and excellent drinks in a fun. Our friends hosted their after-party there and we really got to see how big the location is and conveniently walk back to our room at the end of the night! The location couldn't be better--within easy walking distance to tasting rooms, cafes, and even a Michelin-starred restaurant. It's also just a short drive to several wineries and the stunning Jack London State Park. Although we didn't get a chance to use the pool, it looked lovely and peaceful, nestled alongside a river--definitely something we'll look forward to next time. This was a motel--not a very romantic place, but good for families. There is a pool, and the grounds are clean. Our room's refrigerator still had food and drink from the previous guests. The room's furniture, floors, and shower felt a bit vintage, but the bedding was soft and new. There could have been a few touches to make the rooms feel nicer--better toiletries, bigger TV, lighter furniture, reupholstered chairs, maybe a half wall separating the room from the bathroom vanity. But it was in a convenient location, and the price was better than other options. read more

2.5 Stars - it's just not worth ~$300 a night. The decor in the rooms is super out dated and it doesn't have that Sonoma charm. Our bedroom lamp also wasn't working most of the time and the shower is unbelievably hot - you have to delicately put the handle right in the middle setting for a decent temperature that isn't going to melt your skin. read more

We stayed here for one night over Easter weekend, and were pleasantly surprised at how nice this creekside motel is! In addition to being literally 1 minute from everything in the tiny downtown of Glen Ellen, you have plenty to do from the comfort of the property - chill and watch TV, sunbathe by the creekside pool, kick it in the hottub, read a book sitting in one of the Adirondack chairs, or take a stroll. You're also a 10-minute drive to Jack London State Park, a must-see if you're in town. The rooms were clean and cozy, with a BnB vibe. The showers ran hot, and we enjoyed walking over to the Glen Ellen Market for breakfast in the morning; even the hotel-room coffee was drinkable. Front-desk service was pleasant, and staff is unobtrusive. The all-around vibe is "just do you". A couple things that kept this from being a 5-star visit included being on the ground floor and waking up at 5 am to my violently amorous upstairs neighbors. Also be prepared for the likelihood of drunk/high people commandeering the hottub/pool area and expecting hours of one-sided conversation in exchange for letting you soak your feet. For the introverted hot-tubber, this could be disappointing/annoying. All in all, I'd definitely return, asking for a second-floor room if one is available. If you're looking for an affordable and pleasant spot in the area, check this place out. read more

I could not give this hotel a higher rating because the stars only go so high! After getting stuck at another horrible hotel, we had to search for a place to stay and found the lodge. The gentleman at the front desk let us into a room 4 hours early!! He got staff to clean a room immediately and was ready in 45 minutes! The room was really clean, the bed was comfortable, and the staff were super helpful. For wine country the price was excellent!! The pool was super clean as was the hot tub. The Saloon across from the hotel had great food and the bartender was a crack up...super funny and nice gal. Lots of places to walk around, a great market and bakery all surrounded by beautiful trees and a creek! Will absolutely go back!! I just hosted a college reunion event at the lodge for a group of 14, and I just can't say enough good things about the customer service, support, and fun we had. I connected with Kim in the office back in March/April and arranged a block of rooms and a good price. But what really amazed is when I met Kim to work on our schedule, food, activities, and arrival, she provided excellent support in every way. Her connections around the community and ideas for activities paid off with great meals and fun activities off property. For the main event, our football game watch party, she organized a great venue with food and drinks...the Jack London Saloon is "must do"!! She made is easy to reconnect with classmates after years. Yes, the rooms are a bit dated, but clean and comfortable, and I think it would be nice if there was a BBQ to use, but we had an amazing time. The location puts you in the middle of the valley, and Kim's connections will pay off if you visit. All the businesses in Glen Ellen have amazingly great staff...Ryan at the Wine Snob, Jaz and Samantha at the Garden Court Cafe, Juan at Laurel Glen tasting room, MJ "Sunshine" at Benzinger, Tony at 3 Fat Guys winery, Les Pascals Bakery, John at Mayo Family winery Reserve Room. The place was clean and appeared updated in the bathroom. The bed was pretty comfortable and there were plenty of towels and pillows provided. The heater worked well in the chill evening. From the outside, this motel doesn't seem like much, but it's quaint. Inside, they rooms are beautifully updated. Did I mention the beds? And the pillows? I'd steal a pillow if I thought I could get away with it and my friend's credit card wouldn't get charge. The bathrooms are modern and luxurious. I love everything about the place. This lodge caught our attention the last time we were in Glen Ellen at Benziger, thanks to Yelp. We were told it was remodeled. I knew we'd be back for Yelp's inaugural Grape Escape in Sonoma and needed to stay a night instead of driving back to Marin after wine tasting. FYI, they honor State rate and/or AAA rate - score! For $95 on a Sunday night ($105.45 after tax), we couldn't pass it up. The room is spacious for two and served its purpose for one night. A much needed mini getaway for hubby and I. We were pleasantly surprised as to how quaint it is with ample parking, shopping nearby, beautiful area with parks and restaurants. They serve a continental breakfast on the Creekside patio. The hot tub and pool are well kept. The Saloon serves food from noon to 8 p.m. and bar closes at 2 a.m. There's WiFi access, no pets, non-smoking, and no bikes allowed in the rooms. Highly recommended if you're visiting the area or wine tasting nearby. They also rent the Warm Springs Cottage, newly remodeled 3-bedroom, 3-bath. A nice mini vacation for the entire family. If you don't know an affordable and comfortable creekside lodge with a great location in wine country, then you don't know Jack. Next to an awesome saloon open 'til 2, with a grocery store and places to eat right across the stone bridge, Jack has a big hot tub open until 9, big comfortable bed, fridge, cable, plenty of parking, and remote temperature control. We'd definitely come back. I'm so excited for my next trip to Sonoma that I'm going to Jack. read more

Website photos are deceiving. Over priced for a motel that's barely a step above a Motel 6. Rude staff. Booked almost the entire hotel for a family wedding. After spending 3 evenings in the bar with a large group every night, on the 4th day, with a party of about sixty, we were unceremoniously told that we had to leave, not really sure why. Later that evening, Instead of asking us to quiet down at the hot tub we were rudely told to leave. Will never return to this terrible motel. read more

This is a retro location! Kind of reminded us of motel during the 1950s. It was clean and the beds were comfortable. However, it could use a bit of updating. The location is great....in the heart of the wine country. The creekside location is quiet and there are good restaurants for breakfast and dinner. read more

In a valley filled with luxurious (read: overpriced) accommodations, Jack London Lodge is a beacon in the wilderness for the world-weary wine country traveler. It is a motel, but with a Sonoma Valley twist: gorgeous landscaping, an outdoor complimentary breakfast, and a pretty asymmetrical-shaped swimming pool and hot tub soaking area within earshot of a nearby creek that bubbles and burbles pleasantly in the background. The rooms themselves are actually far more lavish than you might imagine: the King Bed rooms in particular are very nice for couples on the move, with hardwood floors, attractive wall art and finishing, and a nice sink/vanity section, separate from the shower/tub and commode area. The prices per night simply can't be beat in the Kenwood/Sonoma/Glenn Ellen area, and you are literally within walking distance to some very fine dining options, including the historic Wolf House hotel/bar, the Girl and the Fig, and the Glen Ellen Star. There are also wine tasting rooms nearby, and by car you can access such local standouts as Loxton Cellars, Benziger Family Winery, Saint Francis Winery (which has a great tasting menu wine option), and Kunde Family Winery (which has an amazing mountaintop tour and tasting). The staff here are friendly and helpful; parking is plentiful right outside your room (1st and 2nd floor), it is quiet, and the other guests during our stay were very polite and private. Hard to beat the JLL when you are on a trip to the Sonoma Valley - much preferred to staying in Sonoma Town or the nearby Kenwood Resort! read more

We recently stayed at The Jack London Lodge for the third time. As always everything was wonderful. It is quaint, quiet and serene. The location is perfect and the amenities in walking distance are wonderful. This trip they went above and beyond as I left two articles of clothing in a drawer. Basic but mostly clean is the takeaway. check-in was quick and easy. Staff was friendly at first until she saw my negative comments on hotels.com the next day; when we were checking out she asked what problems I had with the room and told me that the owner was "very upset" at seeing my complaints. She said she would refund $100 of the $230 I paid and asked me to remove the negative review but that it was "up to me". I waited a week and she never followed through with the bribe, never credited the $100. Very old school here, needs renovating. Shower head and tub stopper were loose The hot tub and pool area saved the day. No frills here. Not sure why the rate was $230 on a Tuesday. Location I guess ? Love the area, quaint and quiet. Smudges on wall. Mysterious blood looking stain on duvet cover. Lighting and lack of decor made room feel dark and bare. smells like it used to be a smoking room. Smoke detector looks 20-30 years old at least, Would be surprised if it's up to code. Continental breakfast consisted of coffee, tea, boiled eggs, cereal, oatmeal, fresh fruit and yogurt. Didn't eat at restaurant/saloon because only vegan option was a market salad. Jack London lodge is comparable to a motel 6. read more

The best part of this hotel is probably the location. Everything is within walking distance; from the market to the Patisserie with fantastic French breakfast, the best restaurants, and a saloon. Rooms are very basic but everything else including having breakfast by the creek totally makes up for it. The ok part was that rooms are a bit outdated and probably can't appease everyone but after the first night, we didn't care. Also, the plumbing was a little off but again, it wasn't a problem. read more

Probably one of the worst hotels (really a motel) I've ever stayed at. Walked into a steaming hot room (they had an AC unit but was off), overhead fan broken, foot print on bedsheets, minifridge luke warm, floors left our feet black with dirt, and bed was so squeaky and poorly constructed it sounded like a porn was being made to our neighbors. Also no towels at pool which was full of insects. No room safe. Front desk person gave us new sheets, jiggled the handle on the switch to get the fan working, but that's about the extent of this place's customer service. He did see us at the saloon and buy us a drink....would have rather had a decent room for close to $400/night. Never again. read more

This place was nice but I paid for two queen beds and I don't think the beds were queens. I think they were full beds. They also did not give us any cups for water, coffee, or had a table to eat in the room. When we left on the bottom floor one of the room doors was wide opened and I noticed that room had bigger beds :/ this place also didn't have many food places around. read more

This is a quiet funky old place. Rooms are large and spacious with a nice seating arrangement for two. The grounds are pleasant as well. The pool while small is heated by the sun and refreshing on a hot day. Priced reasonably for a wine country visit. Issues: They only hand out one room key per room and it is a key with room number on it. They offer a very basic continental breakfast outdoors with no option for indoor seating. Not too many bugs, but did observe a yellow jacket near the fruit. The dishes are sturdy Corelle, but coffee mugs are questionable plastic. The eating utensils are also plastic picnic stuff. Only orange juice if a person likes juice with their meal. read more

One word of caution don't over stay in the pool area beyond 9pm or you will be locked in. We had to ask a guest who fortunately walked by to get someone to come let us out. Very affordable in comparison to other places nearby. I was kind of shocked when we got to this place that it was nothing in real life like the pictures portrayed it to be. It's probably my fault. I read lodge and thought hotel or small private B&B... and it ended up being basically a motel 6. The floors were all wooden and cold, the bed frame creaked every time you moved. The car park was full and we had to park up the road and the only toiletries were a bar of soap and one tiny bottle of shampoo. Of course the swimming pool and hot tub weren't an option and so the bathing suits stayed in the suitcase... The coffee pot in the room had the glass jug replaced with a small silver replacement that didn't fit, so when we made coffee in the morning it overflowed everywhere and resulted in half a cup each and hot water EVERYWHERE. Nightmare. Would probably pay a bit more next time to stay somewhere that much nicer. read more

We had a great experience at The Jack London Lodge. The manager, Bruce, was extremely kind and helpful during this difficult time of Covid, even printing out some paperwork at our request. The room was spacious and clean, and the area was lovely. We walked to the French bakery in the morning for delicious pastries that transported me back to Paris (not an easy feat - it's been 20 years ). Despite the patio, pool, and restaurant being closed due to Covid, I would return in a heartbeat. read more

This was a great place to have my daughters wedding. The rooms were great the service at check in was perfect. The rooms were clean and the furniture in the rooms were antique style. The food at the restaurant was great and so was the bar. The breakfast was included but they did not have a lot to offer. People are nice. Location is good. For a nightly rate of $285, I expected way more amenities, privacy, service and comfort. The room is clean and large, but overall the price point is extremely hard to justify given things like: quality of bathroom (tiny window, no shower liner), overhearing people on the walkway outside your room / their shadows coming in through the window in the morning, slow and spotty WiFi. Many factors do not justify such a high nightly rate at a motel and it is clear the location is the only real source of value here, so consider that when making your decision. read more

This is a cozy and quaint lodging in Glen Ellen, CA. The rates are affordable. Hotels in the area of Yountville, Napa and Sonoma easily averaged around $350/night. My room was very clean and comfortable. I stayed in Room #1, which i was a bit skeptical of at first. My room was located across from the Lodge's office and at the entrance to the Lodge's parking lot. But it all worked out. There wasn't a lot of traffic moving in and out of the Lodge and it was pretty quiet. There are a few places to eat within walking distance and the Glen Ellen Village Market is a short walk across the street. read more

What a great experience we had for our first visit to Glen Ellen. This location in Glen Ellen was perfect as we could walk to the store, restaurants, and local attractions. We checked in and inquired with the Manager, Blake, as to what was fun to do other than wine tasting in Glen Ellen. Immediately he suggested Broadway under the Stars at Jack London State Park which was less than a mile away. He went online, helped us purchase tickets and explained how to get there. This hotel is a little gem, great location next to a super market, a few restaurants and a bar. There's an awesome vineyard right up the street as well as Jack London Park. The room was spotless and very comfortable beds. It was recently remodeled and they did a nice job. But the best part is the new hotel manager, Blake. He's the nicest guy. We stayed at the Jack London Lodge 3 times in summers 2012, 2014 and recently in September 2018. The first two times, it was amazing. When we booked our last trip, we noticed that the rate increased significantly from around $120 (in 2014) to $200 now, which we could understand if the hotel had been spruced up. We were told that the former owner sold his business in 2016 and the new owner "aligned the rate to the market". Now, the charming and quaint Glen Ellen lodge is quite overpriced. Here is why: The beds have not been upgraded and are saggy (and are quite uncomfortable), there is no decor or frames in the room, just white stained walls which was very sad. The furniture is dinged, the lamp shade is stained and the alarm clock is from a different century, similar to the shower amenities. The breakfast was disappointing with mediocre pastries, we actually suggested the manager to use the French bakery "Les Pascals" across the street. Yummy! To be honest, for $230 per night, the placed is in need of significant updates. In addition, the floor in the room was dirty. When we ask to clean it, the manager was blasé. While the housekeeping obliged, they still neglected to clean under the bed.The landing at the base and top of the stairs have giant pots filled with sand to be used as ashtray, which reeked of stale cigarettes. That was gross! The pool was ice cold and the previous beautiful landscaping was now nonexistent. We mentioned it all that to the manager but he was quite nonchalant about it and said the motel is sold out all weekends anyway. We were very disappointed about the new management direction. I would only come back if things improve. read more

Great hotel. Super comfortable and clean rooms. Loved the hot tub and the bar next door. There is a cute restaurant a block away that I highly recommend. The only thing I thought was questionable was when I was checking in with an older woman that works the front desk, I informed her I had a Groupon to which she replied (obviously annoyed) "Of course you do." Wtf is that supposed to mean? How rude. She needs to smile and be nicer to customers. She seemed annoyed the whole time she was checking us in. Great location. I lightly touched the towel rack when I entered the bathroom and the rack and towels fell to the ground. This place could use a good maintenance man. Great getaway spot in Glen Ellen. Had stayed there some12 years ago and was pleasantly surprised by this charming inn then. There has been a bit of remodeling but it has retained its charm. Only reason for missing a star- the shower nozzle in our room was definitely in need of service. The bar next door was great in the late afternoon but a bit loud and the service level dropped off later in the evening. We will return. read more
