Ok we reserved this place after looking at Yelp and Reddit and I don't think there could possibly be a better place. They serve breakfast at your door and it's too notch. They also have some suites with jacuzzis and the woman at the front desk is amazing. Please pick here this is a luxury hotel for regular prices. This is it!

Really cute place for a short getaway. I stayed in the Mission Suite which is right next to the front office. It's probably the more noisy of the suites but it's a quiet street in general. I like the room since you can access your car from the front patio. I also like the back patio which is pretty private considering how close it's to the neighboring house. The kitchen with breakfast countertop is very useful as well. The inn is super clean and decorated World Market style (I recognized more than a few vases and furnishings from there). I also saw a toddler staying there but am not sure whether that's an exception.

So going to this place was a surprise for my birthday, so I never looked at the reviews or pictures. But my husband and I were a little disappointed. I don't like tile floors especially because I didn't have slippers or socks to walk around. The shower was very small and I thought if you were a big person you couldn't even fit . My husband said the fireplace didn't work. My husband thought it was more like a bed-and-breakfast where you got maybe a small breakfast with fruit and coffee. They did have very good coffee in the room and they left us pastries which were good. The bed I believe was a Tempur-pedic and I slept pretty well. It was close to the square which was great. Even though it was raining, we didn't care, and we walked around the whole square and then ate and walked back. The TP holder maybe should've been on the other side because my husband kept knocking it. Some of the lights you weren't sure where to turn them on but eventually found them. Then I didn't know they had a charging station at the desk if you flipped this partition open. Maybe just put a little note so I would've known. Great that it had a refrigerator was surprised no TV as most places have TVs these days. We checked in after four and so there was nobody on site. We were greeted in the morning, which was nice. I did an edit to add one more picture. But then all the other pictures were gone of the tub that you could hardly get into and the shower stall. Not sure what happened on yelp.

Quaint and well appointed rooms and staff is very accommodating.. they allow for early check in if the room is ready.. stayed in the casita and it was so lovely and relaxing. The location is walking distance to the square which is perfect. I would of given a 5 but the bed was a little too firm for me. Definitely my go to place for my Sonoma getaways..

My husband surprised me with a birthday massage today! We arrived a little early and were greeted with warm smiles and cold bottled waters. Terry showed us to the beautiful courtyard where we waited in patio chairs, next to a water fountain and lots of shade (thank goodness because our 5-month old was heating up in the stroller). I got the 90-minute wellness massage with Stephanie. We chatted briefly about the areas that I wanted to focus on, as a new mom. She was very courteous and checked in on me throughout the massage. The pressure was perfect and the lavender lemon scent was soothing and calming. I was so very relaxed that I dozed off and on! This was a perfect way to celebrate my birthday! Thanks Stephanie! Will definitely come back again to treat my wonderful husband for a couples' massage!

We loved this boutique hotel right in the heart of Sonoma. We were in town for a wedding, and loved that this was close to downtown yet still quiet and peaceful. It's walking distance to everything you'd want to see, and we had no issues with parking. The room was beautiful and well maintained, and we loved being able to sit in the courtyard in the evening.

Didn't want to checkout on Sunday after a great stay at The Cottage Inn & Spa. Everything about this spot is fantastic. The rooms, the aesthetic, the comfortable beds, the 8AM pastries left at your door, the gorgeous showers. I truly could go on and on. Will definitely return next time I'm in Sonoma. Thanks for a lovely stay!

Had a fantastic stay at The Cottage Inn and Spa in the Arroyo suite. The inn is conveniently located a couple blocks from the plaza, where there are some great restaurants and tasting rooms. The inn itself is also quiet and quaint. The suite was very cozy, relaxing, and well-decorated. It was especially great to have a mini kitchen and private fenced yard! There is no TV, but we knew this in advance and brought a Bluetooth speaker to play some background music. Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely stay here again! p.s. We also saw a deer at the home next door!

Slow down here ... Hidden gem B&B and Spa located behind historic Sonoma Mission. Excellent deep tissue massage. Serene, beautiful atmosphere. Treat yourself here after hiking or shopping in the square and before dinner.

From the architecture and interior design to the simple cute coffee spoons and lanterns provided in the room, we were happy with it all. The staff was very friendly and allowed us to check in early which is always a plus for me. We reserved the East Suite which was nice and cozy. The room didn't have a TV which we ended up appreciating as we were able to really unwind and relax. Love the jacuzzi and the Beekman toiletries!

In A Nutshell: -The Cottage Inn & Spa is a wonderful place to stay while you visit Sonoma. -After staying at the Fairmont & this location, both of which are very good, I prefer staying here. -The location is excellent b/c it's a 5 minute walk to downtown. -The cottages/suites are all unique, I was able to stay in a cozy one-bedroom, one bath w/ a kitchen, living room w/ fireplace (bummer b/c it wasn't working) & a tiny backyard that leads out to your car space. -You can also book discounted packages like their full-body couples massages and/or wine tasting down the street at Sojourn Cellars (both were awesome experiences). -The customer service is super-nice & they always give you a warm welcoming smile. -The semi-private courtyard was great to look out at while enjoying breakfast or the high-end tea/coffee (which is supplied in the suite). -Speaking of breakfast, at 8am you get a paper bag hung on your front door which has some baked goods (English scone & French croissant). Overall, this is such an awesome, quiet place to stay at for a couple of days while you enjoy Sonoma & the surrounding wine-country. BOOK IT!

Ask the Community - The Cottage Inn & Spa

Are the cottages freestanding or connected to each other? Thanks!

Hi Tara! It depends on the room; some have adjoining walls, and some are freestanding. Please call us at (707) 996-0719 so we can help you choose the best room possible for your visit to Sonoma. Thanks!

    Is there a hot tub?

We do not have an exterior hot tub for guest use. Several of our suites (South, Mission, Chapel, East and Vineyard View) have in-room jacuzzi tubs.

Are there ACs and heaters in every room?

Yes, we have A/C and heater units in every suite.

Anyone know if the rooms have a tv and/or DVD player in them too?

Hello- The only suite with a TV is the Fountain View Cottage.

Whose birthday is in March?! Even without staying at the hotel, the day pass was worth every penny. Check-in is seamless, and the locker rooms are fully stocked with easy-to-use lockers, plush robes, slippers, and luxurious bath products. It feels indulgent from the start. The amenities are what truly set this place apart. Outside, you can choose between two large heated pools at different temperatures, plus a hot tub tucked away in the far corner for a quieter soak. Inside, there are two additional hot tubs, a spacious sauna, and a steam room. There are showers with a signature scrub, too. If the weather doesn't cooperate, there are plenty of comfortable indoor lounging areas, including dreamy zero-gravity chairs that make it impossible not to relax. Both visits, we treated ourselves to bottle service, which made the day feel extra special. While I didn't order food, the portions looked generous and the pricing felt fair for a luxury resort experience. The staff is exceptionally well-trained, and a few team members truly went above and beyond both times. We brought cash on our second visit to make sure we could tip appropriately. One thing I will say: if you're looking for a QUIET and ultra-peaceful experience, I would avoid Saturdays. The first time we went (a Sunday), it felt very zen. The second visit was on a Saturday, and there were larger groups celebrating birthdays. Some guests were there to party, and it got loud, specifically at the hot top and indoors. Obviously, that's out of the Fairmont's control, but it's something to keep in mind depending on the vibe you're hoping for. There's honestly no better way to spend a winter day, especially when you can follow it up with a meal at El Molino Central right across the street. Note that parking is validated for a set amount of time (then around $3/hour after), which makes it easy and convenient. I love everything about this place. It's the perfect reset during the colder months, and I can't wait to return.

Both times I called I reached a voicemail but they quickly returned my call. After speaking to someone on the phone I got an email confirmation with additional details like parking or arriving 15 minutes early. I had no trouble rescheduling the appointments for later in the day when something came up. The resort is beautiful! It's like a little cottage. The landscaping is immaculate. When we arrived there was a wedding going on. It was a little confusing how to find the spa. One of the employees told us to follow the brick path and take a right. A less scenic but easier instructions would be to head back out towards the street after dropping off your car with the valet and make a left. As you're walking along the street you'll easily find The Spa/pool area. Checking in we were given a pair of slippers and shown the locker room. Instructions on how to use the locker are easy. You get to choose a 4 digit code. I recommend bringing a swim suit so you can enjoy the hydrotherapy garden (jacuzzi and steam room) afterwards. I was told access to the pool is available for an additional $5. Very clean facilities! Someone must be attending to the locker rooms constantly. Nothing was out of place. Plenty of clean towels. Lots of personal care products available. In the waiting area for the massage even had cookies from the restaurant. There's also water and tea available. After the 50 minute MacArthur massage I felt like I woke up from a good nap. It was very refreshing. My friend said her massage targeted areas based on what she did for work repetitively. The outdoor area is cute and so was the hot tub, it felt tranquil even though you are pretty close to the main pool. Not a ton of fancy stuff to discuss, for the price point it would be awesome to have a sauna or something else small spa related but they are working with the space they have. How about when you first drive up the winding drive, and glimpse the first take of the stunning main building. I arrived at night, so all the ambience from the lighting, the moon, the glimmer off the fountain in the middle of the courtyard. Immediately was struck. Then I walked in to check in at the front desk - and I couldn't have been more welcoming. I had just made the marathon drive from Pasadena, CA, and was just tired, hungry and looking to get to the room and get to dinner. But the warm faces and kind words instantly washed the road away from me (and to be honest, the perfectly chilled glass of local champagne certainly helped that too!). They ensured everything was right with the room and with the stay and so I headed out to pick up the puppy from the car and settle up to the room. And then... there is the story of the puppy. Out of all the hotels and resorts I've stayed in - nothing NOTHING compares to the dog friendly (while still wholly human centric) service at this Fairmont. They made me feel like Chance was as much a guest there as I was. And all that isn't even to mention the concierge, the perfect cocktails from the bartender, the beautiful winding paths that guide you through the campus, the world class spa and massages (note - make SURE you check out the quiet room, nothing like it I've ever seen), the OUTSTANDING breakfast under the trees next to the pool... I just don't have time to list it all here. But the cherry on top - really is the people. They just... they are the magic that infuses everything in the building, everything in the resort, everything in the spa. They were there for me at every turn and at every moment, for every need. I'm a Fairmont member and have stayed at several Fairmont properties, including Banff and Hawaii, so I came in with high expectations. Unfortunately, this experience didn't come close to the level of service or value I've come to expect from the brand. If you're in your 30s looking for a fun, relaxing day trip from San Francisco, I'd skip this. It's not about the cost alone. I don't mind paying for quality, but this just didn't deliver enough to justify the price. A disappointing experience and a missed opportunity for what could have been a great destination.
