Here to update my review! Stayed here with my family-now we are a family of four-and honestly I feel like the staff really went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. They provided an upgrade, the first night, which I didn't love and they then offered a different room which was perfect for us. They also allowed me to utilize an empty room to take a litigious meeting from as my kids were napping in our room. Really overall better experience! But the allergies still hit us hard! All four of us! It's such a beautiful property and the upgrades they have done make it that much better (the pool area is wayyyy upgraded from before). I would come back for sure! Just gotta see why we keep getting such crazy allergies?! Anyone else? Hahha

We had a 3-day meeting here and the grounds are lovely; the only downside is that even with the map it was hard to find my room after checking in. The front desk staff had asked me if I wanted to walk or ride to my room...since I can definitely walk and just had a carry on suitcase I opted to walk. I swear the map is not quite accurate....anyway, I finally found my building , and my room was up a flight of stairs, so if you can't carry your luggage up stairs, be sure to ask for help at the desk. The room was lovely and kind of high tech in a fancy way....there are panels for the lights and I'm not sure what all the settings do...but I did figure out how to turn the lights on and off. There is a floor heater in the bathroom which I didn't know about until a colleague mentioned it and told me it was controlled by the button with the sun on it...they need a manual for these rooms! The bed was super comfortable and the couch was comfortable as well. The shower was amazing and we're all still talking about the fabulous water pressure. There was no desk and chair in my room, so needed to work with my laptop on my lap for some early virtual meetings with folks on the east coast which wasn't optimal, but this isn't meant to be a business hotel I guess. The wifi was fast and handled Zoom nicely. Our meeting room was large and bright, but we had problems with the air conditioning all three days. They couldn't figure it out and finally just started opening doors to other unused rooms as they were much cooler and that helped cool our room. Food for our meetings was excellent. A word of warning, they do put a very large hold on your credit card for incidentals; $1700 for a 3 night stay! Our organization was paying for our rooms, so this was truly just a hold for things we might buy. I'm used to a couple hundred for this purpose. Parking is valet only, but they do bring the cars out quickly. The grounds are nice to walk around and many restaurants are within a mile or so which makes it easy to leave the car and walk around.

4.5 STARS One thing I get hyped for at nice hotels is the bed and doing a bed test...Caleb style (the apartment guy). OFC, without outside clothes and shoes cause that's ick. MacArthur Place passed the bed check and I got the best 6 hour sleep each night that I've gotten in months so that's a win! Established in 1869 as a private estate, vineyard, and ranch, MacArthur Place transformed into a luxury hotel in the late 1990s. A multi-year renovation was completed last year, earning them a place in Travel + Leisure's Top 500 Hotels in the World. On a hunt for dog-friendly accommodations, MacArthur Place was the front runner in my top three choices to stay in wine country. At the time, they were offering 20% off (2 nights or more) which sealed the deal! G R O U N D S The six-acre, 69 room property is located on charming grounds filled with lush greenery, well-manicured lawns with sculptures, lounges areas with fire pits, and various gardens including a chef's garden that provides produce for their onsite restaurants. It's about a 10-minute walk to Sonoma Plaza/Square (or a 3 minute drive) with an array of restaurants and tasting rooms. A C C O M O D A T I O N S I booked the Garden Spa Suite and stayed in Myrtle #41, a modern farmhouse style cottage. - Clip of suite: https://tinyurl.com/33htccmd - Clip of patio: https://tinyurl.com/4msx6k5m (+) Spacious, nicely appointed room with living room/sitting area, king bed, large restroom with double vanity, and patio area with a soaking tub and additional shower. There was a water feature in the patio for calming sounds while taking a hot soak. (+) Bed was firm yet comfy, as were the pillows, soft sheets, and down comforter. (+) Heated bathroom floors. (+) In-room refillable bottled water with various water stations on the property. Complimentary snack basket: chips, jerky, and dried pineapple. (+) Turn-down service includes cooling eye masks for 'em puffy eyes. (+) High-end appliances; i.e. Stagg kettle and Dyson hairdryer. (+) 65 inch TV with access to DirecTV and Chromecast. (+) WiFi was pretty fast and not spotty. (+) Solid sound proofing. Each afternoon/evening, there was a wedding outside and we didn't hear a peep. (+) Since it's a cottage, there were no guests above so yay for no stomping! (+) No funky smells or stenches. I've stayed at some dog-friendly rooms/suites where you can smell cleaning products masking the odor. (-) There were calcium deposits on the shower head and hand hose so shower pressure wasn't strong. (-) There's a mini fridge stocked with soda, beer, and wine (for purchase) but no room to put your own drinks or leftover food. (-) While seated in the vanity chair, you can't access the vanity mirror that's attached to the wall. Not a ding but an observation. $$$$ priced hotels usually provide a personalized welcome note and welcome bottle of wine/bubbly (even if it's not a special occasion) but they don't here. D O G - F R I E N D L I N E S S Pet fee: $150 per stay. $50 extra per dog. Two dogs max. Very dog-friendly. My dog was offered a treat upon arrival (bubbly for the hoomans). There was a pet waste station right outside our cottage. They forgot to provide dog amenities: bed, food bowl, toys, and treats in the room. D I N I N G Complimentary hot and tea available in the mornings, no pastries or breakfast. - Layla: Farm-to-Table Cuisine - The Bar @ MacArthur - Full bar with small bites and burger/sandwiches - The Porch: Tea, coffee, and grab 'n go (yogurt, salad, sandwich) Only got iced tea from The Porch and didn't try any of their dining options. Their restaurants have dog-friendly outdoor seating. S P A / W E L L N E S S - Massages (start at $195) and facials (start at $185) available. - Complimentary yoga classes on weekends at 9 am. - Outdoor relaxation garden with whirlpool and a co-ed steam room complimentary for hotel guests. - Gym overlooks the pool and hot tub area. They're listed on ResortPass for day passes. S E R V I C E Top-notch hospitality with kind, welcoming staff at the front desk, concierge, and valets. They kindly accommodated my request for early check-in. When providing feedback during the contactless check-out process, I mentioned not receiving the dog amenities and they waived the pet fee. Unexpected and much appreciated. P A R K I N G Complimentary valet parking only (prompt retrieval). No self-parking. Bring cash for tip! E-bikes available for use. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay at MacArthur Place tho I'm not sure if it was worth $1,100 per night (after 20% off deal). While they bill themselves as a luxury hotel IMO, it's more upscale as it was missing some tiny luxe touches and attention to detail. BUT, the hospitality and customer service were top-notch so rounding up to 5 stars.

I took my Fiance to the spa and Layla and it was an absolute treat! The staff were so friendly and they really made his birthday special. We cant wait to come back again! Thank you guys

Wow, where to even begin? We stayed here for my birthday weekend this year and had a wonderful time. Excellent grounds, amenities, and staff. This was a great choice for a birthday celebration - the staff were so gracious and gave us a complimentary bottle of Mumm, waters, snacks, and a handwritten birthday card at check-in. We checked in after two back-to-back wine tastings. Parched, barely able to see straight, and dangerously hangry, I was thankful for their quick and delicious room service. Espresso martinis and French fries were on the nightstand in under twenty minutes, all without needing to leave the bed or pausing Beetlejuice. The perfect birthday. Room service was bomb but the on-site dining options were fantastic as well. We had brunch at Layla and drinks from the bar and really enjoyed both. The hotel itself is gorgeous. Everything on the grounds was beautiful. Historical grounds, but everything is newly remodeled. Amenities galore - nice pool and hot tub, valet parking, and e-bikes to take to town square. The early October weather in Sonoma was perfect for long bike rides. Cozy offerings all around - comfy slippers and robes, plush pillows and duvet, and a Fellow kettle for tea. This place manages to somehow feel ultra luxurious, yet intimate and cozy all at the same time. I had a truly wonderful experience. It's now months later and I'm still dreaming about it. I can't wait to go back. Highly recommend!

So much cool art work on the grounds.

I had the pleasure of staying here at MacArthur Place for the weekend while attending a Ferrari event at the Sonoma Raceway, and it's a spectacular and gorgeous hotel. We were welcomed at check in with a glass of champagne. On the way to our room in 'The Carriage House', we enjoyed seeing many cool art pieces, fountains, flowers, trees, fire pits (that were on and so welcoming), the pretty pool, and more. Our room was charming, spacious, luxurious and had nice perks such as plush bathrobes, snacks, slippers, a porch, coffee, tea, aluminum water bottles, and more. I simply love this hotel!

From the get go, the manager and workers were all so friendly and helpful. There were initially some issues with dynamic pricing, but they were able to correct things on the back end, which was much appreciated. The main building and breakfast area are both very warm and inviting. The couches and seats are comfortable. There are games and books in the cabinet areas too. The chef provides a tasty breakfast each day, with the menu slightly changing. There is coffee, tea, and hot/cool water available all day. It can get a little crowded at breakfast, so if you are in a large group, go either very early or very late. The afternoon happy hour is pretty relaxed with some offerings of cheese, crackers, and wine. Be sure to ask for gluten-free options, as they have them available. They also prepared nice chocolates for my parents (anniversary) and a cookie for my nephew (birthday), which was a lovely touch. The rooms are fine, some are a little darker and/more dated, but that didn't bother us. The one thing that I would've done differently, is to bring an eye mask and ear plugs. Depending on where your room is located, you could be facing the main street. The doors in certain buildings would slam pretty loudly, so if you had neighbors returning late at night, you would definitely hear them. I am a little fussy with beds, and I found the Vitners King (seemed more like a Cali King?) bed to be a little firm and transferred movement easily. We would consider splurging for the updated rooms next time. Bonus that they have cruiser bikes to borrow. It was very nice to go for a quick ride one of the mornings. The location is fantastic, it's within walking distance to downtown. There are so many great restaurants to visit. In addition, wineries and parks are also a close drive away. The location is excellent, with the plaza, downtown restaurants, shopping, and a lovely park all within easy walking distance. Parking was also convenient and free. Throughout our stay, the staff members we encountered were pleasant and welcoming. The inn also offered complimentary wine-and-cheese each afternoon, which was a nice touch. Our first-floor King room (number 7) overlooked the parking lot and was located right off the lobby. The room was dark, dated, and much smaller than expected. It felt sparse and lacked adequate horizontal surfaces. With only one luggage rack and limited space to set luggage, our second suitcase had to sit on a small corner table. We requested an additional rack, but none were available. The décor was underwhelming--blank walls with no artwork, covered hanging light bulbs instead of bedside lamps, and two chairs that looked in need of reupholstering. While there was a fireplace, using it comfortably required moving furniture, which then made circulation around the bed tight. The bathroom also needed updating; it was small with a tub/shower/plastic curtain, poorly lit, and had minimal counter space. A permanent sign instructing guests to run the sink slowly--due to known drainage issues--was an unfortunate detail that stood out. And the downside of a first-floor room with limited sound insulation was significant noise from the room above as well as in the hallway, which was at times disruptive.  Breakfast was included and changed daily. Chef Sal deserves particular praise--his breakfasts, homemade breads, and cookies were excellent and easily a highlight of the stay. The only disappointment at breakfast was the coffee, which was extremely weak and never hot enough. Fortunately, there's a Peet's Coffee directly across the street, and judging by the number of fellow inn guests we saw there each morning, we weren't alone in that assessment. Overall, while the location and breakfasts were strong positives, the room quality made this stay a disappointment given the price point. There are likely better options in the area. On a positive note, we continued on to Milliken Creek Inn in Napa (another Four Sisters property) which we found to be outstanding in every respect-a gorgeous, impeccably managed property.

Then I walked in to check in at the front desk - and I couldn't have been more welcoming. I had just made the marathon drive from Pasadena, CA, and was just tired, hungry and looking to get to the room and get to dinner. But the warm faces and kind words instantly washed the road away from me (and to be honest, the perfectly chilled glass of local champagne certainly helped that too!). They ensured everything was right with the room and with the stay and so I headed out to pick up the puppy from the car and settle up to the room. And then... there is the story of the puppy. Out of all the hotels and resorts I've stayed in - nothing NOTHING compares to the dog friendly (while still wholly human centric) service at this Fairmont. They made me feel like Chance was as much a guest there as I was. And all that isn't even to mention the concierge, the perfect cocktails from the bartender, the beautiful winding paths that guide you through the campus, the world class spa and massages (note - make SURE you check out the quiet room, nothing like it I've ever seen), the OUTSTANDING breakfast under the trees next to the pool... I just don't have time to list it all here. But the cherry on top - really is the people. I'm a Fairmont member and have stayed at several Fairmont properties, including Banff and Hawaii, so I came in with high expectations. Unfortunately, this experience didn't come close to the level of service or value I've come to expect from the brand. If you're in your 30s looking for a fun, relaxing day trip from San Francisco, I'd skip this. It's not about the cost alone. I don't mind paying for quality, but this just didn't deliver enough to justify the price. A disappointing experience and a missed opportunity for what could have been a great destination.
