I'd stay here again because it was clean, room was aesthetically beautiful, towels were plush and soft, shower had great water pressure and hot water, great communication by email/text, free snacks and bottled water were a very nice touch. Some things that were weird/problematic/good to know: - The included breakfast isn't like an old school B&B where you go downstairs for breakfast, it's vouchers for Calistoga Roastery. Which is within easy walking distance and has good food/coffee/tea, so it's a fine option for "complimentary breakfast", just not what I was expecting. And hot tip: the vouchers say "brewed coffee or tea and one breakfast entree" but when I got there, they were like "anything you want up to $13" so if you want an espresso and smoothie, that's fine! - There is no reception desk or host/staff onsite. You check in online (which I only partially completed because they wanted credit card details, but I had paid through a third party site when making the reservation and there was nothing explaining that my card would not be charged) then they leave keys for you at the Inn. Again it was fine, just not what I was expecting. - The room I was in didn't have a door for the bathroom. Which I'm accustomed to hotel rooms not having the sink or even shower area enclosed, but the toilet is usually behind a door. I sort of feel like this should be mentioned in the description? - The room I was in didn't have enough places to put things down. Because of pedestal sinks in the bathroom, I took up all the available shelf space with my solo toiletries. If my spouse had been there, I'm not sure how we would have worked it out. And because the bed was adjacent to the door to the little balcony space, there was only a nightstand on one side. If my spouse had been there, where would I have put my phone/glasses/book? None of the weird things would stop me from staying there again though, the important stuff (cleanliness, hot water, comfortable bed, secure/safe, nicely decorated/curated decor) was all top notch. read more

The Craftsman Inn in Calistoga is a gem! It is a beautiful property located steps away from the main part of town with all the shops and restaurants. The home is immaculately maintained and appointed with all the comforts of home and then some! Our two rooms were warmly decorated, very fresh and appealing, meticulously clean, quiet, comfortable. We had 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, perfect for us. We had a private back porch with French door entry into one room. There is a huge Ramada in the backyard that was very inviting to sit, relax, and gather, which we did. The rest of the interior of this home was accessible to us. Simply gorgeous! There were other people staying there along with us but we never heard them - just saw them arrive. The owners, Nick & Gillian, were very responsive to our questions. They were so kind and offered us other things to enhance our stay on day of checkout. We couldn't have hoped for anything more. Plus, did I mention that there was free parking around back? We felt the entire town, including the Craftsman Inn, to be very safe. We would definitely stay there again, only for a longer period of time! read more

Wow! Stayed here for a quick weekend birthday trip. We stayed in the St. Helena room--the giant jacuzzi tub was worth every penny, and the room was super cute. The breakfasts were to die for, every morning something new (for real, Gillian makes a mean breakfast!). Loved the cute little common area with cozy sofas and wine. And the fridge in the hallway filled with waters was a super nice touch--I've never stayed in a place that offered this. It was much appreciated! Location was PERFECT. It was within walking distance to all the great restaurants and shops in town. And with the free shuttle passes, we were able to pop around to the wineries we wanted to visit (the wine castle! Hello!). We literally left the car parked at the Craftsman the whole time we were there, it was so convenient. I would definitely stay here again! The Craftsman Inn is a perfect example of why I love staying at local bed and breakfasts when I travel. My friend and I had a really lovely 2-night stay in the Diamond room at the Craftsman Inn. The room had beautiful furniture, a comfortable king-sized bed, and lots of thoughtful details (i.e., plenty of bottled water, snacks and sweets, coffee and tea, nice toiletries). The Inn was perfectly located within walking distance of almost everything we wanted to do in downtown Calistoga. We really enjoyed the vouchers for breakfast at Calistoga Roastery -- it was convenient to be able to eat breakfast whenever we wanted, and we enjoyed checking out a local coffee shop. Really appreciated the warm hospitality from Nick and Gillian! read more

----UPDATE--- Nick sent me a text after he saw the Yelp review and said "We do understand that the bathroom in the Diamond room doesn't work for some people although it remains our most popular room and the majority of people don't have a problem with the bathroom set up. We are of course sorry that it didn't work for you. Wish you had let us know during your stay I believe we could have found another room for you." Personally, I can't comment on the validity of the claim that the Diamond room is their most popular, however, I think it is good that potential customers should be aware of the bathroom layout issue and avoid it or make other arrangements if they think it may be a concern. For us, it would have been more inconvenient to move so we chose to stay. Nick also said, "I did not appreciate your comments regarding the breakfast coupons." He also said that the website says that breakfast coupons are only provided when directly booked through the hotel. We booked through hotel.com so we didn't see that since we were staying there with friends. If COVID wasn't around we could have eaten a nice breakfast at the Inn so I don't think it was too much of a stretch to expect that we would also get breakfast coupons if they were available. Just another thing for potential customers to know when they book during this time. Nick also said that "there was no contact is again inaccurate." Actually, it turns out that may be technically true. His wife came up and handed breakfast coupons to my wife so I guess that counts. He also said, "I saw you at the top of the stairs when I handed your friend his fax." Not sure how that counts as contact?? I'm sure Nick and his wife are nice people and some of the rooms are nice. We stayed here for one night and it was awesome! We weren't even planning to spend the night at Napa, we were just going to do a day trip , and I called around different trying to find where I can buy or pick some grapes , and I stumbled upon this inns number . The owner picked up and was so friendly and helpful with information about grapes, and offer to pick me some grapes that grow on his property! That's what sold us , so spontaneously we booked a night at his inn. We arrived to the cutest little cottage house; he picked us some fresh grapes and left it in our room! Not only that they left us a nice bag full of different snacks , lots of complimentary water and biscuits to enjoy with our coffee. They gave us 2 vouchers to a local cafe for a delicious breakfast and coffee, which is walking distant. Our room had a huge bathroom with a big jacuzzi tub for 2, which we enjoyed . We are currently enjoying our stay at the Craftsman Inn very much. Our host was there to greet us when we pulled in, and to chat while we had a glass of wine on the relaxing and beautiful front porch. It's true, the house presides over a busy intersection, which I hadn't realized when I booked the room, but since I am a light sleeper anyway and travel with a white noise machine, this was not an issue. Happily, you are also in walking distance of the main street with adorable shops and good restaurants. The bed is one of the most delicious I have ever slept on, and the jacuzzi tub for two is sheer perfection. The AC works great, and we have been very comfortable despite above 90 temperatures. Very much appreciate the coffee maker, abundant snacks and iron/ironing board. Only wish I could have tried homemade breakfast but the vouchers for the Roastery breakfast more than suffice (get the breakfast sandwich with sausage!). read more

Perhaps I experienced this bed and breakfast during an off week because my experience was not consistent with the other reviews. First off... 5 stars for the chef. He had a beautiful, delicious spread out every morning. His attention to detail was great. I also liked that he was resourceful in his recipes. Excellent pastries. 5 stars for the convenient location. Walking trail behind the Inn is so beautiful. The lowered rating was due to the following: We never met the hosts. We arrived by 7pm so we were left with an envelop with instructions and keys but after that, we never met the hosts during our 2 night stay. They were available via text, phone, and email only. The property is quite old. There is no centralized AC so the separate AC unit was right next to the bed which was very loud during the night. The extra bed in the room caused some back discomfort for my friend. Definitely stick to the original beds in the room since it was just fine. The cost during the off season was $450 for 2 nights. I think it's a decent rate but I was hoping for a better experience, given the minor cons list above. read more

I had a friend help me book a getaway for my husband since he has been incredibly stressed at work. I have no idea how she picked Craftsman Inn but I am so happy she did. While we were hanging in the canopied patio the owner came out an introduced herself and it felt like meeting an old friend. My husband and I stayed at the Helena room with sparkling wine with chocolate and charcuterie. The room was wonderful but the magic happened in our fabulous jacuzzi tub. I thought I was surprising my husband with a wonderful getaway and he surprised me in the tub by proposing after 7 years of marriage in the perfect setting. I will be coming back here again, because the memories are worth it and I had no idea Calistoga had so much to offer while staying in a tranquil/inviting place. read more

Nice location for sure. I will say I was a little disappointed in the smell our room, it reeked of a wet dog. There really wasn't anyone to speak to about the smell. We visited in November for one night and it gets chilly in the evening. There was a cold draft from the windows, I understand it's an old house but it's time to replace the windows with a more energy efficient more insulated double pane. The heat source was this wall unit that doubles as an air-conditioner it was very loud and didn't seem to have fresh air circulating. I guess you get what you pay for and for the price it was fine. They did serve breakfast which we did not stay around for. I did grab some coffee and it was very weak. The location was awesome however the road is super busy and if you are light sleeper it will keep you up. read more

Stayed in the Helena room, good sized room, nice and cozy with an amazingly big bathroom. Great jacuzzi tub that fit two comfortably. Everything at breakfast was delicious (all homemade and clearly from scratch), especially biscuits and gravy and maple scones! Also really good bedtime cookies in our room! Others have mentioned street noise, we didn't notice anything disruptive at night or in the morning. It was chilly when we were there but the big porches in front and back look great for afternoon relaxing in nice weather. We got a great price with a last minute, nonrefundable deal which was perfect for a last minute weekend escape! Definitely a place we would stay again! read more

The breakfast deserves 4 stars, maybe 5, but the place itself only gets two from me. First, it's really noisy. I guess we don't usually stay near highways- and it is right on hwy 29, so you might want earplugs if you are a light sleeper. I can tell you they deliver the newspapers at 4am at the place across the street, and the rib joint next door also start to cook at that time- how do I know? I couldn't sleep. As a very nice touch the Inn puts sherry in the rooms, and it was very good, but a not so nice touch were the bugs in the bottom of the sherry decanter, which I did not notice until I'd had a glass. Ugh. Kind of gross. They were little black gnats- but still. The bed was not comfortable. There was a large divot on one side, and the mattress was either old, or just really soft. I meant to look and see what kind it was, but I forgot- probably due to lack of sleep. I suppose other beds in the place might be better- I did not see them all. The heating is a little weird- there is an air conditioner like unit that does both heating and cooling. It looks like a regular air conditioner, but it does both- there's a button to switch to heat. Unfortunately it doesn't do a great job. We were alternately too hot and too cold. Also, and VERY important for the mobility impaired, the stairs inside the house are amazingly steep and narrow- there's a rope on the wall as a rail, so you could pull yourself up, I guess, but it's a steep climb. There are more gentle steps outside, but still, there are steps- so if you can't get up steps, I don't think you can stay here. I didn't see a ramp. There is a downstairs bedroom, but I don't know if you can get into it without any steps. Maybe there is a ramp hidden somewhere. The breakfasts are fantastic. You couldn't ask for a better breakfast, and the location is nice (except for the highway noise) as it's a very easy walk to shopping and dining. All told, despite the absolutely fantastic breakfast, I would not stay here again. I need the "bed" part of "bed and breakfast" to be as good as the breakfast part. read more

I echo the previous comments about the extraordinary breakfast. The creative, delicious, and warmly presented breakfast was a highlight of our Napa stay. The hostess was very helpful, as was her husband. Our room was not noisy at all. It was spacious, comfortable, and well-appointed. The little things mean a lot---Sherry and cookies in your room, white and red wine in the sitting room whenever you wanted. The daily newspaper in the sitting room, with a well-tuned piano. My sister-in-law found this place and booked it for her and hubby and my wife and me a few years ago. WE LOVED THIS PLACE!!! It's a very charming inn located in an equally charming Northern California small town. We shopped around in the fun shops on Main Street, my wife and sister-in-law got relaxing mud baths at the spa while my brother-in-law and I checked out the local bars. We also took a hot air ballon ride over the valley and got awesome views! We had an awesome breakfast afterwards. We rented a limo and visited a few wineries on one day. Fun!!! We visited the towns of St. Helena, Yountville, and Napa. True gems every one of them! Excellent food to be had everywhere!! Our visit started on a Wednesday, and we drove back to SFO on the next Sunday. I wanted to mention this because there was A TON of traffic heading up to Napa as we returned. My advice would be DO NOT HEAD UP ON A WEEKEND!! Go up on another day of the week to avoid the traffic!! We can't wait to return and we plan to do so again!! read more

There were many options from fruit and yogurt to eggs and sausage, complete with coffee and mimosas! The room is a decent size but could use a bit of updating for the price you pay. Bottom Line: a great inn to rest your head while you tour the wine country. If you're looking for a fancy looking place to impress your significant other, then you might look elsewhere. Here, you'll get a quaint home, with grounds that don't impress. But look further, and you'll get great appointments and amenities, excellent inn keepers, great food, and a clean and comfortable room. You'll definitely impress with their attention to detail. I wasn't extremely impressed when I first saw the Craftsman Inn. It looks like another house on the side of the road. On the inside, it's very cozy, and there are little amenities for you and other guests, well kept in convenient places. Things like wine, cookies (homemade - yumm!), and tea in the main room, readily available for you are nice touches. There's also a piano (not in the best shape, but playable) and some a real fireplace, and blankets in case you want to enjoy the shared living room. The rooms (we got the Diamond room but peeked in a few others as they cleaned them) were all clean and cozy. The small touches like sherry and cookies (homemade! good!) in your room are nice. The high quality toiletries (L'Occitane) were a pleasant surprise. With the exception of missing a bathroom door, our room had all the conveniences you'd expect. Still, even without the bathroom door, there's a wall providing privacy (but clever use of the mirrors let you peak around corners) to anyone in the shower and toilet. The corner tub is in plain view. Basically this is a room for close couples. Not family friendly, or if you're sensitive to having your significant other going and doing a #2. There are windows and vents though. The breakfast was probably the best food we had in the Wine Country. Prepared with fresh ingredients from Nick's garden or local produce, they came together for some amazing breakfast food. There was yogurt, granola, pears cooked in port wine, a frittata made with spinach, pumpkin, bacon, sausage, and cheese, and some home made banana bread. All the baked goods were very light. You could tell they were homemade, but you could also tell they were made by someone who was very good at baking - they were so well made. I would go and eat breakfast here if they had a restaurant. Anyway, a great place to stay. I'd give them a 4.5 if I could, 5 if the outside could be spruced up a bit. Perhaps after I stay at a few other B&Bs this perception may change. read more

I took my girlfriend here for a surprise, last minute getaway. The inn itself is pleasant and the rooms are nice and contemporary sans the awful all-over flower prints that continue to plague this industry. In Inn keepers are very nice and laid back. The walls are a bit thin but that is to be expected from older homes. The best thing about this place is the BREAKFAST. Do make sure you get up and eat whatever is on the menu! We had quiche that was absolutely to die for, especially when paired with really great baked tomatoes. The yogurt and granola was fresh and crunchy and went really great with the baked peaches. Nothing was too sweet, salty, or oily. Really, a world class breakfast that is reason enough to come back for. The place itself is located on Foothill/CA 29 so be prepared to hear plenty of car traffic and a short walk to get into the town center (2 or 3 blocks). A great option for food is the fantastic Buster's BBQ right next door. read more

I absolute love this place! The service, the food, the room was magnificent. The boyfriend and I stayed here a few months ago and have upcoming reservations for a wine club event we are attending in a few weeks. Needless to say, I am highly excited in staying here again. The food: I've stayed in numerous bed and breakfast places in the past and the Craftsman Inn wins for best brunch. You could smell the home cooked food in the morning, making it almost impossible to avoid breakfast. There was frittata, warm cinnamon peaches, fresh pressed coffee, fresh fruits, bacon. Everything was fresh and local. Even the granola for the yogurt was homemade. The owner has a delicious cookbook in which you can purchase and attempt to replicate at home. The room: The Diamond room is our room of choice. The room has a luxurious bathroom with "his and her" sinks, a jacuzzi tub, and a shower for two. It also has a private balcony. However, there were plenty of bees hoovering around during our last stay so we lasted for about 2 minutes before heading back inside. Bonus star goes to the beautiful finishing touches such as the high end soap products, comfortable cotton robes, the homemade cherry chocolate chip cookies and sherry placed nicely on our nightstand. The service: Nick was amazing. He worked closely with my boyfriend to plan a sweet surprise for me by having beautiful flowers delivered to our room as well as a bottle of Mumm champagne and Lindt chocolate waiting for me when I entered. Thank you. The location: Craftman is walking distance to the downtown area which is perfect. We were able to stroll around town and ordering a bottle with our dinner at a nearby restaurant without worrying about driving back tipsy. read more

My friend and I came for an intensive work retreat to write recommendations for students. We had an awesome stay! The owner, Nick, could not have been nicer about letting us use the main space after our official check out time, and he was super attentive to all of our needs while we worked. Hanging out in the living room, with the smell of frying sausages and bread pudding wafting out to meet us, and hearing him faintly crooning "Tiny Dancer" in the kitchen this morning: perfection. The place itself is adorable. Every detail is thought out. The house and main spaces have an older cottage feel, but the rooms themselves are modern and well appointed: a nice blend of cuteness and comfort. Loved the gorgeous bathrooms with super tubs. Breakfast was delicious. We had homemade granola, homemade yogurt, poached apples and blueberries, bread-and-butter pudding ("French Toast on Steroids"), and pork-pineapple sausages. Not to mention coffee and mimosas! My friend and I had to keep from gorging ourselves as we had more activities planned right down the street at the various spas and restaurants. Gillian (owner) stepped in and handled the situation with ease. Lucky for us, there was some vacancy at the Inn and she was able to accommodate us for the 2 nights. Thanks again for that! The room was spotless and very comfortable. Wine and snacks in the evening, cherry and cookies in our room, and a wonderful breakfast each morning. I really can't say a bad thing about this place. It really does live up to all the other reviews. Great location as well - just a 5 minute walk into the center of town. We found this place online by doing a Search for an available last minute room. Reservation was fast. The manager/owner met us at the door and showed up around. Lovely house with a lovely area on front and back pitches to just hang out. I think there are 3 rooms upstairs and 1 downstairs. There was a variety of wines to drink complimentary downstairs along with some muffins. In our room was sherry and fresh cookies. I accidentally broke a glass and they were so kind about it. There is a fridge of water available for guests which was so nice. The room was comfortable and had its own bathroom which was large and spacious. Breakfast was delightful. Scones and mimosas, juice, coffee, yogurt with amazing granola and fresh fruit. Bacon and other stuff. Would visit again! read more

This is a great inn with great hosts. Our room was clean and cozy. Due to COVID we didn't get to enjoy their breakfasts, but coupons were provided for a coffee shop that was just a short walk downtown. The provided snacks really came in handy when we missed lunch due to wine tasting schedules running over, and the coffee maker was nice to have in the room. We really enjoyed staying here, the location is great for a walk to some restaurants and a few spas, however the bed wasn't our favorite and that's something I look forward when going away. The fact that we could hear other people talk at night that were also staying there was a bit annoying.Breakfast was delicious and they even offered us mimosas in the morning. They offered us red wine and cookies at night and we had a small patio to hang out in our room. Our room was decent size and came with a jetted tub for one person. Very clean and beautiful bed and breakfast Inn. The breakfast was delicious and was a great surprise to have mimosas available each morning too! The beds were comfortable with very nice soft sheets and great 4 pillows. Close to town so was easy to walk to restaurants or take the free shuttle if you want. A nice outdoor covered patio at the front door with tables to sit and sip wine each evening. Wine also provided along with Sherry and cookies in your room each night! My husband and I just got home from a 4 day vacation in the Napa Valley. We stayed here at the craftsman inn for three nights, Thursday through Sunday! This experience was amazing! I picked the craftsman because they had amazing reviews on Yelp and trip advisor, also the rooms seemed a tad bit more updated than some of the other B&Bs in the area. My husband had never stayed in a B&B and was used to nice hotels so I knew to introduce him to B&Bs it had to be a little more updated and not with a shared bathroom!!!! The craftsman exceeded his and my expectations! Our room was clean and nice, I made sure to get the room with the two person jetted tub and rain shower, the bathroom and room were roomy and clean!!! Little touches like fresh baked cookies and sherry waiting for you in your room were amazing, they also have a bottle of red wine and white wine along with wine glasses, downstairs in the living room for guests to enjoy! Chris greeted us right when we got there and was so warm and helpful our whole stay! He gave us so many amazing recommendations and they give you a pass for the wine bus in Calistoga! Now to talk about the breakfasts!!!! Oh man Chris is such a great chef! He has worked in various restaurants and hotels in the area and in San Fran and his breakfasts were so amazing I can't even tell you! Every morning had fresh fruit, homemade granola, housemaid yogurt, a fresh baked scone or muffin, mimosa supplies, and French pressed coffee!!! Along with heartier dishes such as cooked to order eggs, bacon, Apple sausage, amazing breakfast potatoes, baked apple pancake, and frittata. We loved our stay and plan on returning next time we are in the Napa valley! read more

Rooms were nice and breakfast was DELIOUS!!! If you're just going to a B &B for those two reasons then you'll love it. What we missed was the hospitality, there really wasn't any. You can tell that to this Inn Keeper this was just a "job". We've stayed in many B&B's and the personal touch is why you choose a B&B. It's also located on a very busy hightway, which didn't bother us while sleeping but, there really isn't much to look at while enjoying the patio with a glass of wine that YOU BEST bring yourself cause there is NO ONE around in the afternnon to offer any type of afternoon amenity. read more

Won't be coming back again! Was made to feel that my tree nut allergy was a HUGE inconvenient in less than a minute of being greeted along with that there was no one there when we checked in and waited quite a while to be checked in. The location is next to a noisy bbq place where there are way too many motorcyles! It was horrible! read more

Great value, kind and courtesy owner and employees. Delicious complimentary breakfast in the morning, all 10 guests together at the same dining table (sharpen those conversation skills!). Great group of guests from all over the country, all friendly with various personalities and backgrounds. Quiet rooms, walking distance to downtown, great bbq next door for dinner after your all day wine tour - a real life saver! Clean and relaxing grounds make the intersection location a non-issue. What a disappointment. First of all this is a self check in joint, so don't expect a warm welcome. That's not a huge deal, but upon entering There was a terrible smell which was clearly trying to be masked by an air purifier - it was a smell like mildew rot wet dog (someone else in a review commented on this as well). While the room was clean and the bathroom was actually quite nice, the room was run down. Also, there was an air conditioner that roared all night - I guess it worked to drone out the traffic noise, so there's that. If this place had been priced at $150 I would have had no qualms. But to pay nearly $500 per night is enraging. I just came from a resort on the ocean and paid that much and it was true luxury which is what that price range warrants. This is not a luxury experience at all. So to summarize, if you can get a good rate - $150 maybe $200 per night, you'll probably be quite satisfied. But anything above that is a total rip off. read more
