Folks don't sleep on this gem! Excellent fish, perfectly fried. These are nice people too you can tell they care about the product and customer. Place is in the making but don't let that stop you. Will definitely come back!

Easy to find. Get fish or shrimp to go and they out on ice. You can eat in there too.... We are attempting a low country boil :) good service . No wait. Took credit cards :)

Great service actually the staff is super friendly and helpful. Wish the side portions were a little bigger but overall very nice.

Don't miss - sublime seafood! From the outside it seems like any seafood market but tucked away in the back is the counter to order and a few tables. They were handing out small taster cups of NE clam chowder and lobster bisque - very good and not your typical thick soups. The enticement worked and we ordered a bowl of lobster bisque which had nice chunks of lobster. The mussels in garlic butter was so good that it had all of us fighting for the mussels and the bread to dip it in! Large tasty shucked oysters which included several fresh lemon slices, cocktail sauce and horseradish sauce. The medium sized scallops and large portion of grilled salmon were perfectly cooked. Solid grouper tacos. The large portion of fried flounder was bland but that might be more the flounder's fault - and at our request they switched out the French fries for red potatoes. Hush puppies were very good if you're into them. A few weeks later we returned and placed an order to go. We loved the mussels in garlic butter and scallops so much we ordered it again. This time we ordered a bowl of NE clam chowder and grilled grouper. We again were very full and happy.

Seafood market and great kitchen serving up delicious fried and grilled food. The best cole slaw (very sweet) I've had. Very friendly staff. Worth the visit for fresh seafood!

    Go see the display cases..

It sounded like a great idea to have dinner at Gainesville Seafood Market. On our way there we got stuck by a train. The red lights were flashing so many of the trucks and cars that are local citizens knew to make a U-Turn. We waited...but then decided to follow the cars turning around and then got to drive for miles seeing the airport up close. We did a lot of driving and finally parked in front of the Seafood Market. Glad that we were the only customer and we were offered a taste of gumbo or clam Chowder. The gumbo sealed the deal for me, that and the Grouper fish tacos. Two nice 5" tortillas heaping with fried battered grouper fish chunks made a perfect presentation. Benavides helped with our other selections and the Lovely missus has white Clam Chowder with a side containing two pieces of sweet corn and the side of Cole Slaw she had was a good starter. Unfortunately the one unknown and thus not partaking in our seafood feast was wether vegan options were available. The answer was a subtle yes, but maybe not now... The Gainesville Seafood Gumbo was definitely a winner with chunks of shrimp and fish and sausage. We had a big bowl of it as well as the Grilled Grouper plate and paying extra for Fried Pickles and Onion Rings. The grouper fish was grilled and was a nice fish...but son was wanting to see a bigger amount for the price point. During the food preparation we wandered the aisles of the market and checked out live Maine lobsters and fresh oysters and clams and several kinds of raw cut up fish on ice display cases. Gainesville Seafood Market was actually a fun drive to get to as well as tasting and liking the seafood we chose to have. We vowed to return to this charmingly decorated seafood place.

Beautiful food. All I can say is this is a beautiful food. It was excellent and completely down to earth. Yeah its all deep fried, but that's where it counts. Its a southern food, and it was beautiful.

    So much fresh seafood.
    Ashley A.

We returned to the market today to find it well stocked and welcoming! The fried oysters were the best they have ever been, the shrimp boil was Cajun buttery heaven, and the grilled shrimp were perfection. So happy we returned!

The food is excellent, and the service even more top notch. Both owners are there every time we go, and support their staff in a very positive manner and chip in wherever is needed. Our waiter was pleasant, attentive, and genuinely tried -- so none of this reflects on him. We tip regularly, and we still did, because the issues we experienced felt more like management and kitchen pacing, not server error. The biggest problem was the timing of the food, and it was honestly awful. Our soups and appetizer came out almost at the same time, which I could have overlooked -- but then the entrée was dropped on the table immediately after the soup, with no pacing at all. It wasn't even our waiter bringing the food; it was other staff members just setting plates down without checking where we were in the meal. Because my entrée was seafood, it cooled down quickly while I tried to finish the earlier courses. Then the scallops came out undercooked, partially clear in the center. When I mentioned it, the waiter said it's a common complaint because they don't cook them long or they fall apart. He took them back, and they came out more cooked -- still not great, but at least edible. The dish itself (with black bean hummus, corn, and avocado) wasn't worth the price. The corn tasted like cold canned corn, and overall the entrée just didn't feel special. My husband had the spinach, chicken, and bacon salad and enjoyed it. Both soups -- tomato basil and butternut squash -- were delicious. The brie rosemary dip was just okay. There were a few flies around the table, which was annoying, and the inside is a bit dark, so more lighting would help. I can see myself coming back to try more soups, salads, appetizers, and burgers here, but I'll avoid the dinner entrées unless reviews become more consistently positive. There's definitely room for improvement, especially with pacing and kitchen execution.

It is a 20 mile 45 minute drive for us and honestly we would drive twice as far for it. It is that good! $45 for a bucket of catfish. That is 6 pieces of catfish (fried to perfection may I add), 2 large sides, and hush puppies. It is at least 2 meals for us (most of the time 3). That averages out to either 11.25 per person (2 meals) or 6.70 per person (3 meals). You can't eat nasty processed fast food for that price anymore so I don't understand those complaining about price. These catfish remind me of the rio-vista from long ago.

It opened…read morenearly a year ago, just down the road from our house and haven't had the opportunity to try it until this week, but have always noticed the lines out door and the packed parking lot. Friday, we decided to go for a late lunch pick up. Let me say again... we only live about three miles from the restaurant. We arrive, it's around 3pm and the place is PACKED. It's an adorable place. Great ambiance, totally welcoming when you come in the door. They've got nice outdoor seating as well, with cornhole games and lighting. Nice touch, especially on a beautiful day. Walking in, we were greeted by the clerk at the register and informed it would be a 20 minute wait, which was fine. This having been our first time there, we both decided to order the sampler platter, which was one catfish filet, two chicken tenders, three shrimp, fries, and a hush puppy. For $16.99, it's a pretty good deal! We also ordered a side of cheese grits to try. The clerk was in the process of leaving and did so after taking our order. We waited. People came in after us and we watched them get their food before us. 15 minutes...20 minutes...30 minutes... finally about 35 minutes later, they come out with our order. We left. Drove the three miles home and opened the boxes. Everything was cold. Not Luke warm. Cold. Waiting that long doesn't bother me. But I do expect after that long, that the food be fresh. The fries had gone soggy, the batter on the fish, chicken, and shrimp were also soggy and starting to fall off. It was obvious that our food had been ready for a bit and then sat back there longer than necessary. And this is where my husband and I part ways on opinion... I do NOT generally care for catfish. Never have. I actually had asked the first clerk if I could sub that part out for flounder, but she said, no. I'm glad she did. Hands down, best catfish experience ever, even though it was cold and falling apart. Zero muddy, off taste that I normally associate with catfish. It honestly was delicious and if that's what it's like cold, then I can only imagine how good it would be fresh. I also liked the shrimp, the chicken, and the hush puppy- although I will say... I was a bit disappointed to see there was only one, it to be fair, it was gigantic. It was NOT soggy, so I don't know what happened there. Anyway, the hush puppy was crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside with bits of corn throughout. The shrimp, though I liked it, lacked a bit on seasoning and I can say the same about the chicken. That said, the chicken was juicy and tender. Not quite Gus's or Gutheries quality, but head and shoulders above Zaxby's or Huey Magoos. I could honestly take or leave the fries but that's me... I don't particularly like crinkle cuts, especially after they've gone soggy, which is why I don't like Zaxby's. My husband, however, was disappointed overall. The only thing we agreed on was that the catfish was really good, but he did point out that between the fish, chicken, and shrimp, they all had the exact same batter...the catfish just carried it better. I did love the grits and would pick that as my side over the fries. Just a matter of preference, there. Here's the thing- we do our best to support local, small businesses, pointedly ones who are veteran owned, and recognize that small businesses, in particular, are especially vulnerable to bad or off days. Based on all the reviews from people we personally know, we're positive that's exactly what happened to us on Friday. So, in light of that experience, I'm giving it 3 stars with the promise that we will try again and I will edit this review to reflect that second experience. Overall for me, I'd go back for the catfish any day and they showed me how good that one thing can be when it's done right. As for my husband and his opinion of the other items... I pointed out that it's not called Brookton SHRIMP OR CHICKEN School. Catfish is what they specialize in, and as far as I'm concerned, they nailed it.

Let's start with the appetizers. The hush puppies are a must. They come with a hot honey glaze on top, and that combo is ridiculously good. Sweet, crispy, and just packed with flavor. The fried okra was something I've never had before. No breading--just split in half and fried as-is. Super unique and honestly really good. If you like okra, you've gotta try it this way. For sandwiches, my wife had the pig melt, which is their take on a pulled pork sandwich on Texas toast. The pork was tender, juicy, and stacked nicely, definitely a solid choice. I had the BBQuban, their BBQ twist on a Cuban sandwich, and it was excellent. Great flavor, well put together, and something a little different from the usual. The meats across the board were done right. The turkey was tender and served in big, thick slices. The brisket had a good bark and paired well with their BBQ sauce. Sides were all solid. The mac and cheese was creamy (I added a little salt and it was perfect for me), baked beans were flavorful, and the collard greens were on point. And the banana pudding... easily one of the best I've had in the North Georgia area. If you're going here, don't skip it. The space itself is fun with a bar area, and the service was great. Everyone was friendly, and the food came out fast. Parking is available right out front, but just make sure you scan the code and register your tag so you don't get ticketed. You can also park in nearby decks if you prefer. Overall, this is a strong BBQ spot in Gainesville. Great variety, solid execution, and definitely worth checking out.

You got your white tablecloths, rooms full of retirees, and a vibe that hasn't changed much since the Reagan administration. Unfortunately, there was none of that live music that this place is known for. My family and I came for the Easter brunch buffet @ $55/person. The menu looked great: herb crusted prime rib at the carving station, shrimp and grits, Belgian waffles, deviled eggs, bourbon glazed carrots, cheesecake dessert squares. But the reality was that it's more like an upscale hotel breakfast. Safe, mostly bland, and probably exactly what the "usual" crowd there was looking for. The bacon was overcooked and shriveled. The deviled eggs didn't even have any paprika. And who puts a giant vat of syrup BEFORE the waffles? And their signature strawberry punch would've tasted way better chilled or iced instead of being kept at room temperature. The prime rib was what made it all worth it. It was tender, juicy, cooked just right, and the horseradish took care of their seasoning problem. That carving station is what saves the day along with the fantastic staff. Even the manager was great to talk to. I just wish the rest of the food was better than "meh." A couple of tips: call for reservations, there's no online booking. Parking is annoying because of the app. If you don't have a walker, just use the giant free public lot one block over on Main Street. Also, the "Order" button on their website goes nowhere. Maybe just replace it with "Menu," Luna. Looks like Mother's Day is getting the breakfast buffet brunch encore, so if you want to experience what I did, go for it. I probably won't be back even though the regular menu looks interesting.
