Clothing, jewelry, bags and accessories are nice but the manager is who keeps it from being a fun store you want to do repeat business sadly. No one should feel as though they are being done a favor by frequenting a shop let alone checked out by a sour puss. Having spent much of my younger "Yeah I'm going out of the house dressed like this, what's the big deal?" years in NJ - I've developed a strange fascination for short denim shorts. I spied some in the window here the other day and just had to go inside. I've been trying not to spend money on clothes - since my closet literally is overflowing with a wealth of garments that I have yet to wear, but I couldn't help but do some browsing here. As far as clothing - Gala has a hip, nice selection of things. They carry an abundance of Free People clothes, designer jeans, beautiful jewelry and a vast selection of soft cotton shirts, dresses and more.I found alot of the clothes to be fairly muted in color - alot of beiges, blacks, whites, and blues; nice, casual, chic, and wearable - but nothing really popped. That being said - everything felt amazing and high quality to the touch and if I had the space in my closet, and the money in my wallet - I would love to rock any and all of the clothes in Gala. The fourth star is for the friendly woman, working here. She was patient when I was walking around the store, and was more than willing to help - when I had questions about the best place to wait for a cab in the rain. If you're in Larkspur - stop by Gala - if even just to window browse. Their stuff is on the pricier end of things, but it sounds like they rotate their clothes fairly often, and if you're looking for stylish practical wear - they carry a great selection of comfortable and flattering outfits. read more

Gorgeous boutique in Larkspur! Shout out to my lovely friend Rebecca for introducing me to Gala. This lady rocks Gala goodies on the daily and after complimenting some of her beautiful jewelry she brought me in to browse. Of course I instantly fell in love with everything in the store. The clothes, shoes, accessories, jewelry, handbags, Kai lotion- what's not to love?! I generally admire from a distance as the items here are pricy, but I have purchased and received a few very special pieces. Rebecca gifted me a friendship bracelet a while back that I absolutely love. It is part of the Brave Collection, a line of jewelry handmade in Cambodia to celebrate bravery and empower women around the world. I have also gifted Tracey Lanner pouches and a few other accessories. Last week I wandered into Gala and fell in love with a necklace by Los Angeles based jewelry designer, Suzanne Kalan. After trying on a few of her pieces I finally decided to splurge and buy this beautiful necklace. The ladies working at Gala were extremely helpful and offered excellent advice as I was deciding between a few different styles. I love the clothing and jewelry at Gala. The owner has great taste and carries some of my favorite brands that you can usually only find in the city. Fashion-forward and tasteful. Whenever I'm looking for a cute dress for a special occasion I usually always find one here. I have found everyone that's worked there over the years to be really helpful. Offering suggestions on shoes, accessories, etc. and always trying to work with what's in my closet. It's important to them that you feel good in their clothes. Clad in my yoga hippie attire of drawstring linen pants and t-shirt, I was attracted to Gala, located in downtown Larkspur, because of a mannequin featuring a red and purple bohemian dress. As soon as I entered, I received a glance from the woman working behind the desk. She promptly averted her gaze and chose not to welcome me in the shop. Hmmmm... okay. I immediately felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman when the salesperson treated her with disrespect and disdain. After a couple minutes when she saw me looking at the dress, she said "oh. Can I help you?" "Yes, do you have this dress anywhere else?" "No. It's our only one." "Okay... where is it made?" "It's made by a New York designer. It's $695, if that matters to you." "What size is this dress?" "A 2." "Oh, I'm a 4. So I guess that doesn't work." Now, perhaps it wasn't the words she used that effected me, but the haughty arrogance she inflected into her tone. A rule for any high end clothing store- do not judge a book by its cover. The clerk missed out on a tremendous opportunity. I will not return and I don't recommend this store based on how the shopkeeper apparently treats clientele she views as lower class. read more

I gave Gala five stars for their clothes and jewelry. And then I subtracted two stars for Gala and her piss poor attitude. I've shopped here (and spent enough $$$) over the past few years for her to at least recognize me, or attempt something approaching customer service. There are 2 locations on the same street, not sure which one this is, but they are both great. HOT little boutiques for gifts and hints to your boyfriend for gifts. I got an amazing necklace from my BF on my b-day after doing the hand in hand walk by and saying, "Ohhh, I love this store, they have the cutest necklaces!" It totally worked. Tell your men about this place, the jewelry selection is amazing. You will never have to worry about someone having the same thing. The selection is very unique with a wide range of prices. The store closer to the Larkspur theater is more affordable and a good place for casual lingerie. My favorite Gala story: I was in PMS shopping mode and needed something to make me feel better. I never intended on finding the world's most perfect brown leather jacket by "JUNE". Gala was actually working this day and could tell I was having a hard time justifying this type of emotional purchase. She said, "take it home and try it out. If you don't return it in a week, I will charge your credit card." ...and with that my customer loyalty is locked, loaded and well preserved. My all time FAVORITE store in Marin. From jewelry to basic tanks, to sandals, bags, dresses, home decor and MORE - love, love, LOVE Gala. As for the rest of you who snark on Gala for their customer service.... You're in Marin folks - you can't expect your neighbors to wait on you hand-and-foot. Try getting to know the ladies who work at Gala instead of being pissed that they don't fawn over your presence in their store. I've shopped at Gala countless times, and the owners both know my name, where I went to high school, college, where I live now, and alllll that good stuff. But - I worked for it! Like any relationship with another female, there must be reciprocity. Try asking one of the employees how her day is going - see if she seems cold and standoff-ish then. read more

I have been into Gala a few times and have never found anything that I would be willing to spend that kind of money on (or that would fit me!) They have cutsey, trendy clothing, bags and accessories but all seem to be overpriced and seasonal. Staff is ok, I think it is a mother and daughter team, not overall the most friendly type. They do have 2 stores within a 2 block radius in Larkspur though so people do buy their clothes. read more

I stopped by this morning looking for a new pair of jeans. I walked in and started browsing. No acknowledgment from the woman working. She was already helping someone, so I don't except her to stop what she's doing, but an acknowledgment would have gone a long way. Anyways, I continue looking through the racks and she comes over to pull something for another client. I say hello she ignores me. Odd. She comes back again and without looking at me states "I am busy with someone else". Mind you, I didn't ask for help so I'm not sure where this statement came from. I felt extremely unwelcome, left, drive to "Branded" in Mill Valley and had a lovely shopping experience. Personally, I think the selection at the Larkspur location is absolutely perfect. They have a great mix for twenty to thirty somethings, some on the side of twenty and others to the side of thirty -- so you can dress as sophisticated or as fun as you need to but always look elegant. Jewelry is darling and from relatively independent, small designers, which I really appreciate. They have some of the best dresses and don't go over the top with trends. There aren't two locations on the same street -- the other store is Gala with three numbers after it, and the two aren't affiliated. The Ross location is, however, except that I've heard worse things about the Ross location than this one. read more

I love, love, love Gala! It's probably my favorite women's boutique in Marin. They carry a fabulous selection of clothing, jewelry and accessories. I love that they carry some smaller french brands that are hard to find. Shopping at department stores can be overwhelming and this small boutique makes shopping easy and stress free. I do like this boutique because they have some very unique clothing, accessories and jewelry. But the last time I stopped in, I was very offended by one of the sales people. While I was looking at their jewelry selection on the front counter, the sales lady immediately informed me that "the lower priced earrings are on this display." I was casually dressed, but I can certainly afford to shop at your boutique. Well, remember "Pretty Woman?" I went to another boutique and bought some jewelry there. "Big Mistake!" I hope you don't work on commission! My advice to your sales staff--get a new attitude!!!! I get my hair done at the salon across the street. I still refuse to come into this boutique because of their snobby attitude. The staff only seems interested in you if they deem you as a wealthy Marin person. This business has several 5 star reviews from loyal customers whom the owners probably deem as worthy to shop in their boutique. Gala is my go-everything from vacation wear (I've shopped here for Ecuador, Mexico, Manhattan, North Carolina and Colorado, so imagine the variety of clothing they have) to everyday luncheons, special occasions & funerals. The staff couldn't be more kind and generous. If they don't have what they think you might need, they make suggestions about where to find it (ie a very formal dress) that they think would look good on you. When you start shopping here, you will find you need less because what you have from Gala will become your regular pieces, and those other clothes in your closet will just...go away. I was searching for jewelry for my wife and happened upon this store in Larkspur. Not knowing much about jewelry I was at a loss, but then the owner of this fantastic establishment came to my rescue! She was consultative, informative and, above all, a delight. I was made to feel very at home here and when I finally made my purchase I felt I also made a friend. I bought a pair of silk Georgie pants (very very cute) here a few months ago. Unfortunately, they started to fall apart after a few hours of wearing them. Even though they were a sale item, the Gala owner took them back, gave me store credit and sent the pants back to the manufacturer. I thought this was great customer service. Will definitely be going back, and not just for the store credit and great customer service. they also have great clothes-- simple/classic mixed with fun/bohemian. Right up my alley. Gala is awesome (both individual and store). I rarely shop in Marin but Larkspur's sunny weather offers the perfect reprieve from SF's gloomy fog. And Gala is an absolute must stop when I'm in Marin. I've shopped here for several years now and always find great "keepers" - stylish things you can wear year after year. They have great basics and trend-on pieces in a range of prices that keep you hip with fashion - not a slave to trends. Personally, as a former stylist and retailer, I think the selection on offer suits a range of ages, fashion styles, and budgets - a tough thing to accomplish in a small store. The items range from luxurious sweaters by Inhabit to easy everyday tanks and knit wear by L.A.Made and James Perse - brands that grace my closet courtesy of Gala. They also have the absolute best collection of jewelry of any boutique I've ever stepped foot in. No joke. But what I really appreciate as a boutique shopper is the way they treat me when I come in. The sales people give me plenty of breathing space for browsing and are always honest when it comes to opinions. Best of all, Gala herself has always gone out of her way to special order a size for me (being an xs can be a drag) and unlike some stores, she has always followed up. Most recently, I special ordered a 360 Cashmere sweater in my size and I got an email the next day about the status and was notified right away when it came in the following week. That's better service than anything I've received at any department store or boutique. read more

Yes, my man bought me a necklace at Gala that I had seen but it was the wrong one and he returned it for a credit I was working via em with the staff to find the one I had originally wanted. They seemed nice and accommodating. Finally I was sent a photo of something akin to what I recalled. It had blue beads and the same pendant. When they received it in stock, I drove up to Marin to get it. The beads were not blue as shown in the photo and I had become attached to the blue ones. The woman who had ordered it got on the phone with me and went from accommodating to nasty in a matter of seconds. Meanwhile, the woman in the store was telling me the beads were blue. There was not and is not anything remotely blue or blue-tinged about the beads I was holding in my hand. I showed her blue beads in the next case; I showed her a blue purse. She kept asserting the beads on my necklace were blue - while the woman on the phone had already stated that she did not send blue beads b/c she says I didn't ask for blue beads. It was like walking into HELL where the customer is wrong wrong wrong and suddenly color-blind and crazy too. So I took the necklace with the distinctly non-blue beads because I never ever want to encounter these people again. Then I asked for a receipt to indicate the transaction was now closed. She said my husband had it. I pointed out that the item I was accepting was not the same item my husband had purchased, so how would we know the price was the same and he had not paid them more than the value of this new item? She snooted out that my husband had the receipt, then basically dismissed me. I walked out and I won't be walking back in. They have some serious customer service lessons to learn. read more

I find the previous reviews on here shocking. I have shopped at Gala for almost 4 1/2 years now and have always had the best experiences. I've never walked out of a store without something! The people that work there have great, genuine advice and are always very friendly. The lines they carry are exceptional. Unlike the previous reviews have said, there are sizes and styles for everyone and the price point is great. I shop at a lot of boutiques, and this one is at the top of my list not only because they carry such great merchandise, but because the owners and staff members are so incredibly helpful and friendly. They will go out of their way to make sure that you get what you want and offer great wardrobe advice. The atmosphere from decor to the the music they play is super inviting, and I am so grateful for the comfy sofa for my husband to hang out on while I shop so I dont feel rushed. I went to GALA in Larkspur for the first time a week ago...OMG..I had no idea GALA was here its right by the old theatre. There was stuff only my mom could buy me but I found a fabulous necklace and great t-shirt..both in my budget which is affordable!!
