I stopped into the Marin store today ready to purchase a handbag as a gift. I've always enjoyed working with the sales team and have had positive experiences there. What gave me pause was that one of the bags, priced around $2,000 and described as being in excellent condition, had noticeable discoloration and color bleeding along the top. Quite frankly, if a bag has visible discoloration, it should not be listed as being in excellent condition. Let's be truthful and accurate in how items are represented. Customers rely on those descriptions when making purchasing decisions. Seeing that immediately made me question the inspection process and naturally led me to ask about authentication. The conversation that followed was even more concerning. When I asked what would happen if a bag later turned out not to be authentic, I was told it wouldn't be returnable. That response honestly stunned me. Authenticity is the entire reason many of us choose to shop with a company like The RealReal rather than buying from a private seller. Just as importantly, the person I spoke with seemed unable to clearly explain the authentication process or stand behind it with confidence. Luxury resale is built on trust. Hiring knowledgeable authentication experts and ensuring they can confidently answer customer questions is vital to maintaining that trust. I shopped here for the first time and I loved it. Their selection was good, every item in excellent condition, fair prices and very helpful staff. The store was clean and smelled great. I totally bonded with the woman who helped me because she was as fashion obsessed as I was, and I learned quite a bit from talking to her. I'll be back. I know I can shop on line, but it's no substitute for being able to feel the fabric and examine the details in person. Plus designer sizing is all over the place,. I purchased what I believed were authentic Christian Louboutins from The RealReal, but the heel height felt off too high. Since I had missed the return window, I listed them on Facebook Marketplace--only for the listing to be immediately flagged as fake. That raised a red flag, so I took the shoes to a well-respected designer consignment store in San Francisco. Their authentication expert pointed out three separate signs that the shoes were not genuine. So, not real real after all. When I took the shoes to The RealReal in Larkspur, I was directed to a text-based chat with a "specialist" who told me that because the return window had passed, there was nothing they could do. I'm now out over $400 for two pairs ( one with a broken heel that they said I should have come in right away about). Extremely disappointed. A company that claims to care about luxury and sustainability should at the very least stand behind the authenticity of what it sells. I was disappointed in the lack of inventory. They had a few options, I'd say maybe about 12, at most, on display. I had the absolute best experience there yesterday and felt so taken care of from the moment I walked in. Michael has been my main point of contact, and he went above and beyond--bringing in specific bags I was looking for and even suggesting others I hadn't considered so I could make an informed decision on a big purchase. He was thoughtful, knowledgeable, and truly invested in helping me find the right fit. Dustin, the store manager, was so kind and professional. You can tell he leads by example--the whole vibe of the store is warm and welcoming. Frankie did my bag evaluations and was fast, efficient, and just really sweet to work with. I was nervous about selling my bags, but he ensured they would go to a good home and made me feel confident about the process since it was my first time cosigning bags. Even though they're short-staffed, they all worked incredibly hard and never made me feel rushed. The energy in the store was so positive and relaxed--I genuinely enjoyed shopping there. This store sent my purchase without signature required, and UPS had delivered it to the wrong address! Had they set it for signature required, then maybe UPS wouldn't have delivered to wrong address. I happened into the RealReal while shopping at Marin Country Mart the other day and found a great Kaws ceramic sculpture. I honestly didn't know they sold fine art but, lo and behold, they do. They're obviously know for all of the great designer clothes but there ReallyReally is something in here for just about everyone, fine art included. Service was fine and friendly, especially after I bought the piece. I actually purchased it for less than you can at a gallery, so there are some good deals to be had if you're looking. I had a positive experience selling through The RealReal. Brought in Stuart Weitzman over-the-knee boots in good condition in January. They set the price. I signed an agreement. They took pics and posted the boots. The boots sold in February and I was promptly paid my cut of the sale price. Could I have made more selling the boots on my own? Maybe. Would it have been a lot more work and time to sell them on my own? Definitely! Happy with the outcome. The boots found a second home/wearer and I made some money back. read more

I returned an item that was clearly a counterfeit and did not even match the pictures on the website. The staff was disrespectful and when I received the return I was charged a restocking fee - so that means not only did I have to pay to be sent a fake item, drive to the store, be treated like I was the problem - they are going to restock this item and sell it to someone else. This is not acceptable. We are all aware of the problems with the real real but be extra careful that you inspect your item and that it matches the pictures and keep good records. read more

I haven't had a positive experience using the real real, they sell counterfeit goods! After purchasing a product it did not look like it's photo and I got it authenticated and it was a fake. I can't believe I spent good money on something that is not in fact "real". What a disappointment in a company why are they still in business? I used to buy amazing clothing and wallets on their website. But for the past two years the descriptions and the sizes are inaccurate. Even worse, They do not clean the clothes they resell. This year they have sent out two items to me that were described as pristine but that have had 1/4" holes or tears in them. When I asked them to refund my shipping fees they only waived the return fee. Once a Gucci wallet turned out to be a fake. Another time a "pristine" wallet was worn at both corners. As a one of their original clients no longer trust them. The Larkspur store is nice but once a $2000 return that I made in person took almost a month to be credited back to my credit card. They are ruining what was once a fun place and reliable place to shop. read more

First let me say that most of the people who work in the Marin TRR are very nice. But overall, the place is the worst. I used to love the Real Real!'s online store, but now that they have grown, they totally suck. You can't trust them to sell your stuff - they price it any way they want, including way below resale value. I have also returned multiple damaged items to the store that I bought online - such as a sweater with multiple large rips and holes (which was advertised to be in near perfect condition) - even after explaining the problem to the store associate and showing them the different defects, they took the item back and immediately relisted it online without disclosing irs real condition. In terms of selling, TRR totally rips you off. For example, I sold an almost brand new $500 aviator nation jacket on TRR. I had seen other similar ones listed on TRR for $350+. Mine was apparently posted and immediately sold for $100, which is absurdly below what it should have been listed for. I was frustrated but my friend suggested that someone who works at TRR wanted to buy the jacket so listed it way below its actual value and then snapped it up. I was so pissed but you have no recourse once you hand them your stuff to resell! Overall it's a buyers market so don't try to sell to TRR, they are all about turning over volume quickly and couldn't care what they end up giving the seller. In terms of buying, be careful!!
