I had a great experience with the service. It's hard to find a natural or a holistic base dentist. But the insurance was an issue during the worst time for me in my life. Cigna dental insurance first said covered them a 6month-year later pushed back and said we owed $412. If I didn't pay it we got a call I was going to get sent to collections so stressed but had to pay out of pocket. So thankful I had HSA. Get HSA ahead if your insurance doesn't want to cover the dental fees. read more

This office is trying to bill us 4 years after the visit because "the insurance didn't go through." They keep insisting they sent us a bill in 2023 and then waited another 2 years to send this one. We never received anything. We pay all of our bills on time and have never had an issue with any other provider or office, so this explanation does not make sense. By now, the statute of limitations for dealing with our insurance has passed, and we have no way to verify if what they're charging is even correct after all this time. The dollar amount is not the main issue. What really upsets us is the lack of responsibility, follow-up, and care for patients. This feels negligent and incredibly unprofessional. If they decide to send this to collections, we will formally dispute it and report the matter to the appropriate board of dental. read more

I wish I read the 1* reviews before visiting the office. Well I have to say the hygienist took his time and did a thorough job in cleaning my teeth, and he was patient and pleasant to work with. However, I did sensed the Dr.'s/hygienist pushing for unnecessary things to do. When the bill came, surprise surprise, the charge is twice as much comparing to my son's dentist who did very decent job and using very similar procedures for exam and cleaning. It took a very long time for me to work through and come to terms with how I was treated by Dr Galan, and the motivation to finally post this came from a recent series of conversations with friends about our shared instances of predatory treatment and emotional abuse seemingly rampant among dentists. Many years ago, I had come in for a consult to get some major reconstructive work done. We set up a plan, and I was excited to finally find a dentist who wasn't going to make me feel horrible for my genetics and my past as I had almost exclusively experienced. It should be noted that every dental assistant I had dealings with was lovely, and I was happy every time I had an appt. The office was always clean, there was always parking, and they had hours that worked for me. What turned out to be my final appt. was an evening visit for a deep cleaning, where the Dr recommended an additional fluoride treatment. When I inquired as to whether that was covered by my insurance, she legitimately snapped at me. In a raised voice, she yelled to the tech to give it to me for free, and stormed out of the room, slamming her office door behind her. It was a traumatic experience, and I never returned. My reconstruction was half completed, two bone grafts and no implants. I paid out of pocket for work that was ruined by someone's personality, killing my drive to get it done. In a position of power, we put our bodies, our well-being, and our money in your hands, and to have it sundered in this way is disappointing, traumatic, and unacceptable. Do better. read more

Stay away from this practice! They are not taking appropriate data protection measures to protect your medical and personal information. Staff is good but they sent me another patient's protected health information when I requested my Explanation of Benefits along with mine. The practice called and tried to pass the blame on their third party vendor. The main practice is still liable and it is deeply concerning that their chosen third party vendors are not in compliance- it only increases the risks of having your information stolen. We've been seeing Dr. Galan for over a decade for our usual teeth cleanings and the interesting things that come up with age. We originally switched to her on a friend's recommendation and have stayed with her ever since. She and her staff have always been professional, thoughtful, and proactive about spotting issues. Thanks to her and Ping's close watch, they spotted and tracked an odd spot on my tongue that appeared a little like a scar from a bite...but they noticed it was slowly changing shape. They gave me a referral to a surgeon that could do soft palate work. I'm relieved to have taken it out as it was abnormal tissue -- maybe not an immediate issue but could have become one. Like some other reviewers have mentioned, my main concern with this practice is the number of procedures I was instructed to have while I was their patient. To be clear, all of my experiences with Galan Dental were professional and I was treated with kindness. The problem is that I shouldn't have had so much experience with them in such a short span! The first visit begins innocently enough, just some special prescription flouride toothpaste for $25. No big deal, I figured. Then, two pairs of fillings. Even though I have not had cavities since childhood, it's not uncommon for adults to require fillings later in life and so I didn't think twice when I agreed to them. But the final straw was when within a year, I was told I needed 6(!) additional fillings. Since my insurance doesn't cover fillings at 100%, this would have been close to $1,000 in out of pocket costs. This time I put my foot down and refused to book appointments on the spot like I had been pressured to before. I switched to a new dentist and guess what--he told me I didn't require a single filling. read more

We just love Dr Galan! The cleanings are thorough and pleasant, plus she is more holistic minded and doesn't like to do unnecessary procedures or try to squeeze out more billing from you even if you have the basic plan. My daughter had been having health issues and Dr Galan is the one that diagnosed her sleep apnea and told me that I really had to get a sleep study done at Kaiser. And she was right! So now Dr Galan gas been working with the orthodontist (without charging me for her time) to get my daughter's lower jaw moved slightly forward. Kaiser was ready to cut out her tonsils and adenoids and put a CPAP on her at night. I just can't tell you how much we love her. Even my kids were exclaiming the first time we went how she was "way better than our other dentist!" And the office staff is SO NICE and everything is high tech and fresh and new and they have music streamed through in each room. Last time it was Hawaiian tunes and it was so peaceful. Your first appointment with her will be very thorough since in addition to the oral cancer screenings, X-rays, jaw/facial exam, etc., she goes through your medical history and realize listens to you and what your body is saying. She is also well versed in microbiome research and how your immune system is tied to your mouth. Dr Galan is a wealth of knowledge and a breath of fresh air! I love Dr Galan, she has been a refreshing advocate for the health of my daughters dentistry needs. I switched over to Dr Galan when I had an uncomfortable experience with my prior dentist. He did not clearly communicate the long term plans for my dental goals. He was also very rough, clumsy, and unapologetic. I am sensitive to pain medications and have reactions that involve shaking, headaches, and nausea. He dismissed what I said and then was incredulous when I started experiencing all of those things. I had a very different positive experience with Dr Galan, she took my sensitivities seriously and is always very careful and considerate with the timing of my schedule and my reactions to medication. She goes above and beyond. I am attaching photos of my oldest daughter to show you the amazing transformation since Dr Galan put my daughter on a jumpstart plan to help with potentially bypassing braces for my daughters underbite. You can see in the top photo that when asked to relax her mouth, my daughter naturally has an open mouth. That actually was something I just thought was a quirk my daughter had, Dr Galan saw it as something more and shared with me the information I needed to put her on the Healthy Start program to get a mouth piece (an appliance as Dr Galan calls it) for her. This is about a year's progress. I really can't say enough good things about Dr Galan and her staff. The only item to improve on is perhaps the interactions between Dr Galan and her staff, sometimes it seems tense and I can't quite put my finger on it but it seems to be a consistent pattern. Otherwise, I am super pleased with Dr Galan and I appreciate all the small gestures that she and her staff have done to put me and my girls at ease (e.g., stickers for my little ones, the text and email reminders, the cost breakdown of the dental plans, the useful freebies they give out like hand sanitizer spray, and the friendly atmosphere when entering the office). read more

I am looking for a dentist and received a new patient mailer from Galan Dental. I called and secured an appointment the next day. The iPad-based check-in procedure was very convenient. The hygienist, Claudia, was experienced and very friendly, took X-rays and performed a very thorough cleaning and measurement of my gums. Dr. Galan then examined me and provided a very detailed and comprehensive explanation of the exam results. Three small cavities were noted and a reasonable treatment plan was presented to me. No pressure whatsoever. Dr. Galan then pointed out an apparent anomaly with a two year old root canal and recommended that I have it checked by my endodonist. Dr. Galan also recommended several OTC products to address my dry mouth condition. The checkout/payment process was smooth and I received a confirming e-mail receipt of the payment. read more

I was their regular patient going there for cleanings, and simple fillings. I was under the impression that she was performing unnecessary treatments since evrytime I went there I was told to come back again to fix something else. For example I went for simple cleanings they forced me to have deep cleanings, since the insurance does not cover it I paid extra, they also did and xray everytime I went there which was every 3 months or so. Imagine the amount of radiation I was exposed to. One day I went for a simple filling, I had no pain or no sign of cavity from outside. I was forced to have a crown instead of a filling in the middle of the procedure. My tooth was completely drilled when the doctor told me I need a crown, the outside of my tooth was completely gone already when she showed me using a mirror. I was shocked and I had no choice other than accepting a 2000$ crown! One week later, when I went there again for the crown placement, the color of the crown did not match but the doctor made me sign papers when I was under the influence of local anesthesia... I would never ever go back there. There were more fillings they wanted to do but I changed my dentist, and he also took some xrays but he did not see any cavities and no fillings were needed. I am under the impression that I was treated for unnecessary procedures, and I lost my tooth because of them and have to live with this crown rest of my life. I started going to Dr Galan on a recommendation from my niece about 7 years ago and now my husband and I consider her our family dentist. When I first went to her it was for orthodonture. I already had a regular dentist but he did not do braces, so I went to Dr Galan for this service. Over the 2 years of regular services for my braces, I found her to be thorough and straight forward in her procedures and communication. I enjoyed her bedside manner as well and always felt taken care of by her office staff. They are always very kind and helpful. They always greet me with a smile and positive attitude which sets the tone for the whole visit. Dr Galan is always gentle and her skill is top-notch! I had to go to another dental office for a special procedure and they commented on the work done and how nice everything looked. He said he was impressed and that made me feel glad to have found Dr Galan. Since the removal of my braces, I have received many compliments on how straight and nice my teeth are. Called after receiving a flyer to make appt for my 94 yo dad. Mentioned to them about his age, that he was in wheelchair and confirmed they had access for him. She confirmed they were on 1st floor and asked about his preference for service, if he could use the dental chair. That was good. She confirmed Dr Galan works in another dentist's office and is only there on Thursday and Friday and every other Saturday. Made appt for the next Thursday. My dad was happy to be taking care of some teeth problems and I was looking forward to seeing the type work and pain mgt equipment advertised on the flyer. Unfortunately, I'll never know that. When the appt time arrived, I took off work, brought the caregiver and my wheelchair bound dad in for his 11am appt. to be told that appt was given away. What? That appt was given away, No, "sorry for the mix up", no, "let me see what we're can do". No, just, "that appt was given away. " I asked what do you mean, we have appt today at 11. That appt was given away. It takes a lot of effort to bring him in, what do you mean it was given away? I don't have dad's name down, she said. But I called last week and made this appt. Who did you talk to? The woman who answers the phone, is there someone else that takes call for Dr. Galan?.. No, she says, I don't remember any "dad's name". Wow! Drag my poor 94 yo dad back to the car, back to the house, teeth problems left now longer to find another dentist. Ridiculous!! Suggest you don't bother with this place. read more

We have had the best experience of any dental office here at Galan Dental. To start off, Thao the Office Manager is the most welcoming and organized of any office. She gives you a warm and genuine experience everytime. Making the financials and scheduling a breeze. The actual Dentist, Dr. Galan, is the most detail oriented and passionate Dentist I have ever had. Summary: Dr. Galan ripped my mouth, her assistant did not wear her mouth mask but left it hanging under her chin the whole procedure, she is not gentle. She told me I had 2 cavities which another dentist does not see. I highly question her experience and the professionalism of her practice. I DO NOT recommend her. To preface: I'm not nervous about going to a dentist. It does not cause me anxiety. I am new to San Jose and needed to find a new dentist. Yelp's high reviews of Dr. Galan had me thinking I found a great one, but my last experience while having 2 cavities filled was traumatic. Before I tell about the traumatic experience I will say that Micheline (sorry if I have misspelled her name) the front desk receptionist is awesome and super friendly and comforting. I talked with her in depth after my bad experience and she listened and did her best to comfort me. Also my previous visit for dental cleaning was just fine, the hygienist was great. It was at that initial cleaning visit and after having x-rays done (which I later found out were incomplete) when Dr. Galan told me I had 4 cavities (which I found odd because in my 31 years of having my teeth I've had only 1 cavity.) This should have been my red flag. Traumatic dental experience: I "needed" one top and one lower tooth filled. I was most likely injected with Novocaine but am not sure. She injected me on the top and bottom and did the drilling of both. The next hour was spent on the top tooth only which was adjacent to my wisdom tooth and combined with having a small mouth gave Dr. Galan a hard time. She had much difficulty finding the correctly-sized filling? (I guess) She didn't tell me what she was trying to do but kept having to try to fit something in the hole I guess and in the process kept having to yank my mouth wider open while the assistant yanked in the opposite direction which caused the corner of my mouth to rip! TO RIP! It took over a week for the corner of my mouth to heal. It was after an hour of her struggling (making me question her experience) that I started getting panicky. Also she had to inject me again with Novocaine. After her struggling more and yanking on my mouth I felt like it was never going to end and I started to panic and began full-out crying. I felt very confused and didn't understand why I was crying. Dr. Galan and the assistant tried to comfort me but didn't explain to me that sometimes Novocaine causes this reaction (which Micheline did explain to me AFTER the procedure AFTER the whole office hearing my panicked crying.) I managed to calm myself down because I just wanted to be done with it and leave and thankfully Dr. Galan finished working on the 1 TOOTH! and finished up the easier-placed bottom one quickly. After the procedure Dr. Galan did not explain to me that the Novocaine can cause the panicked feeling. And the non-masked assistant busily kept asking me when to schedule the next 2 fillings. Micheline talked to me while I was still trying to calm down while still tearing up at the front desk. I decided to not ever go back to Dr. Galan and went for a consultation a couple of months later to another dentist recommended by a friend named Dr. Araldi. He's very gentle and after taking more complete x-rays (since Dr. Galan's office did not) says he can't even see these other 2 cavities that Dr. Galan was prepared to drill and fill! WTF? I think she just wants to make money off of people. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Galan's for about eight years and have been extremely satisfied with the quality of dental work and care I consistenly receive. Dr. Galan and her staff are always professional, friendly, and efficient. I had Invisalign a couple years ago, with Dr. Galan's help, and had perfect results. I have friends who had poor experiences with the Invisalign process elsewhere and had to redo their treatments, thereby prolonging their results and ultimately costing them much more time and money. Dr. Galan is a perfectionist, with an eye to extreme detail- exactly someone I want working on my teeth. Today I just came home from having a small cavity filled and was astonished at the technology that she utilized to quickly, painlessly and effectively remove and fill a cavity. No more needles and drills- she uses topical numbing ointment and lasers. I was able to leave the dentist office without feeling like half of my face was numb and falling off. All in all, I highly recommend Dr. Galan for anyone's dental needs. I've moved twenty miles away from her since I first began seeing her, and I still travel past many other dental offices to receive her quality of care! read more

My family has been visiting Dr. Galan since early 2009. My two youngest children actually look forward to their visits to her office. I've had cavities filled as well as a crown put in and it was a great experience. Being 7 months pregnant, having a broken tooth and TERRIFIED of the dentist from a bad childhood experience I was driven away form the dentist for more than 3-4 years..... AKA teeth get bad. I was in soo much pain that I was going through a whole bottle of benzocaine a day just to function and get through work. The last straw was literally getting ZERO sleep cause I'm up all night trying to grit through the pain. Anyways, went to delta dental website to find a provider and just called through the list to see whom could do same day, saw me same day. Gentle care, I was super nervous and crying before she even opened my mouth. They prob thought I'm a nut, but ALL of the staff was awesome!!! I mean top notch. I went in for a clean, a filling for a cavity , and to shave down my two from teeth. The experience was amazing. I have never had such a good cleaning before! I normally don't go to Galan Dental but i am so glad i did. The Doc there did a cleaning that's never been done at my usual place. Galan Dental found cavities that have been there for years when my usual dentist just takes a little look and tells me i'm good. Dr. Galan is the best dentist I have ever been to, and I have been to several (thanks to not getting good dental hygiene education growing up). I can trust her judgement and feel that she has my best interest at heart when giving me options for treatment. She has a very clean office which makes me feel at ease about the things that go in my mouth. Being a busy professional my time is valuable and her office understands that. They are happy people who know how to take care of their patients. And the best part is that I don't feel anything when she gives her injections. Dr. Galan is an excellent dentist! Her staff are very respectful and caring. I originally came to Dr. Galan because the Army Reserve Readiness Program LHI sent me there for a Dental exam. The staff was great! Dr. Galan seemed very caring. She did the exam and X-rays for the Army. She then told me I had cavities and needed dental work done. She asked me if I had a dentist I was seeing. I told her I did. She told me to contact my dentist to get my teeth taken care of because I had cavities and she didn't want me to lose my teeth. She was very caring and I felt like I was in good hands so I asked her to please do my fillings. I don't recall if it was Veronica or Michelle who talked to me and asked me if I had dental insurance. I had dental insurance but never used it before nor did I have any proof I had dental insurance. They contacted my insurance to get the info for me and also took care of the billing. I felt so taken care of. During my second appointment for fillings, I brought my wife along because I wanted her to check out Galan Dental. Dr. Galan brought a chair for my wife to sit in while I was getting my fillings done. I then asked Dr. Galan if she could take a look at my wife's teeth. My wife had braces and was seeing another dentist every 2 to 3 weeks for a couple of years and her front teeth had holes on the sides and were turning dark. Dr. Galan saw the seriousness of my wife's problem and quickly took action. She took the time to treat my wife's teeth that same day and got rid of the obvious decay overseen by our previous dentist. We left our old dentist and our family is happy under the care of Dr. Galan. She is military friendly and even hires vets. Our second daughter was born recently. When I was emailing friends and family pictures of our baby, Veronica and Dr. Galan came to my mind. I emailed their office pictures as well. I then brought our baby to Galan Dental for a visit. They were so excited to meet the newest addition to our family! I read the negative reviews on here. I really find it hard to believe. Dr. Galan truly cares for her patients and is not out to make a quick buck. She is currently doing the braces for my wife, my ten year old daughter, and myself. Dr. Galan has not pressured us for treatment. On the contrary, they informed us that we were about to run out of benefits last year and Dr. Galan told us that we could wait a couple more months until January when the insurance resets to continue treatment. Almost 2 months ago, I saw Dr. Galan about a full set of dentures. Of course, I had the usual fears and insecurities that go along with a man in his 40's with little to no teeth left in his head. Well, it's been almost 2 months now and my dentures are doing and feeling pretty darn good. I have a re-linement in 4 weeks, but that's just the end stage of it all. After that, I'm sure they will fit just fine. The staff, most importantly Dr. Galan, were and are all such nice people. Janice taught me a new way of breathing, so that I don't gag. Now, my leg muscles are stronger than ever. Thanks, Janice! Kristina is young, but she's learning the ropes and she has an awesome personality and attitude to go along with it. Keep it up, Kristina. Veronica at the desk, well...what can I say about Veronica... She's pretty darn cool. She calls to remind you of your appointment and she'll never give you a sour attitude. Nice & friendly. Dr. Galan was always great. She called me on the evening of my extractions, well after office hours, just to see how I was doing and to see if I had any questions and/or concerns. Very cool. As far as the hands on stuff... She was almost always gentle, and when she was a tad aggressive, she always apologized. Sincere & always caring. Even though at times it seemed that they were a little busy, they would always keep check on me & reassure me that I hadn't been forgotten. I have been going to Dr. Galan for 2 years now. We set out a treatment plan and have been following it to the T. The staff is always very friendly and accommodating.
