The Ottoman Empire Revived: A Remarkable Culinary Experience at Galata Turkish Cuisine & Café For quite some time, I had been driving past Galata Turkish Cuisine & Café, curious about what awaited inside. Having experienced what I considered the finest Turkish kebab in Atlanta, Georgia, I admittedly arrived with high expectations. I left realizing those expectations had not only been met--they had been exceeded. My meal began with a choice of either a soft drink or traditional Turkish tea included with the combination platter. Opting for the tea turned out to be one of the best decisions of the afternoon. Delicate, aromatic, and beautifully balanced, it carried subtle floral notes of lavender that elevated it from a simple beverage to an experience in itself. Every sip was elegant and memorable. For my entrée, I selected the "3 in 1" combination, featuring chicken kebab, steak kebab, and a ground meat kebab. The presentation was exceptional and reflected the care that clearly goes into every dish. Accompanying the kebabs were a beautifully grilled tomato, a serving of what appeared to be seasoned barley, a grilled jalapeño pepper, and a vibrant red onion salad dressed with olive oil, vinegar, and what I believe was sumac, all accented with fresh mint. Each protein was executed flawlessly. The chicken was tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned, demonstrating a mastery of both cooking technique and spice balance. The ground meat kebab, reminiscent of an exceptional döner preparation, was rich, succulent, and bursting with complex flavors that unfolded beautifully on the palate. The true standout, however, was the steak kebab. If it wasn't filet mignon, it certainly rivaled it in tenderness. Expertly charred on the outside while maintaining a medium-rare interior with a delicate ruby-red center, it delivered everything one could hope for in a premium cut of beef. Each bite was remarkably tender, practically melting in the mouth while offering deep, smoky flavor from the grill. What impressed me most was how every component on the plate contributed to a cohesive dining experience. Nothing felt like an afterthought. From the tea to the garnishes, every detail reflected authenticity, craftsmanship, and pride. I do not offer this praise lightly: this was, without question, the finest meal I have enjoyed in Michigan in at least the last two years. During my visit, I jokingly told the owner that whenever asked what my last meal would be, my answer had always been Eggs Benedict--my longtime favorite dish. After dining at Galata, however, I would have to seriously reconsider that answer. The meal was that good. Mutabbel (baba ghanouj made with yogurt), Hummus, Gavurdag salad, 3 in 1 mix, Tavuk Shish Kebap, 2 Mercimek lentil soup, gozleme with cheese. $106.89 They are out of spinach and cheese one. They are also out of the ezme, it's a hot sauce. The food all comes out quickly. The lentil soup is very watery, not chunky, tomato based broth, wasn't sure there was any lentil in it, it's just okay. Definitely a different taste than I expected. The bread that comes with the lentil soup reminds me of focaccia bread. The bread does get hard quickly. It's good with the hummus and the Mutabbel while it's soft. The salad is completely topped with crushed walnuts, a lot of nuts. It's a sweet salad since, as it has pomegranate seeds throughout, rather sweet and unique. My hubby liked it a lot, it was a tad too sweet for me. The hummus is good, they drizzle the chili oil over it. Mutabbel is really good, still has the Smokey flavor I expect, the yogurt adds good flavor to it. The Turkish orange tasted like an odd Fanta. The chicken kafta is moist, not over grilled, some gristly pieces in mine. It's not too bad. The 3 in 1 mix was decent. The bulgur is flavorful, tomato based flavoring, reminds me of the Spanish rice some. The Gozleme was essentially a quesadilla, cheese was crumbly and a different texture. It was underwhelming for me. I told a staffer the women's bathroom needs some attention. Toilets are a mess, TP everywhere, it was hard to decide which bathroom stall looked less disgusting. A party of 40 people were arriving as we were wrapping up our meal. read more

This place transported me back to Istanbul, which is one of my favorite cities. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting. I loved the turkish lanterns as decor. The food tasted authentic and fresh. My favorite was the Adana kebab, which was so juicy and flavorful. The service was very friendly. Very cute and aesthetic sit down restaurant, I love all the lamps in here and the mural on the wall. There is also a nice variety of snacks to eat plus a microphone with some live artists/ singing. I came here for a too good to go order so I did not sit inside but I enjoyed some of the bread and the Dubai chocolate they sold. Upon entering the space is warm and has lots of seatings, and the servers are all extremely nice. I tried the pide which was huge and the adena kabob which was so yummy and tender. My first time at an authentic Turkish restaurant. When i visited they had a live musician playing traditional music, and the place was pretty busy but we were seated right away. the server was happy to recommend what we should try as first-timers and it did not disappoint! the dishes are mostly meat-based but as a vegetarian i was still able to find plenty of things that met my needs such as a delicious pomegranate salad, eggplant dish, hummus, and burek with cheese. The food was very fresh, and good but flavours didn't blow me away. The place is nicely decorated and the servers are very polite. Yesterday we tried Galata on a whim because we wanted a snack. It's tucked into a little strip mall & doesn't look like much from the outside but inside it's a jewel! It even looks like a jewel box with all the multicolored lamps. The owner was very friendly and helpful. He patiently explained things on the menu & helped us pick wonderful dishes! The adana kebabs were fantastic, very fresh and tender. The dip (the owner's recipe!) was so good you could drink it. The pide absolutely perfect, crispy on the edges and gloriously cheesy. We tried the Turkish coffee & Turkish Delight which were both really good. The coffee is strong but very smooth. We made the mistake of not being really hungry but we won't make that mistake next time ... and there will be many next times! read more

I contacted friends and we went to Galata to order the family-styled "Sultan Breakfast." They say it feeds 4-6, and was indeed impressive when they brought in a beautiful hot tea service for 4 and another table to accommodate the lavish and luxury spread. Breakfast included plenty of delicious, high-quality breads, cheeses, olives, honey, sweet preserves, labneh, eggs, nutella, tahini, shakshuka, and a cheese-covered baked flat bread with thin slices of sausage and fresh tomatoes. I may have forgotten an item or two, but we shall never forget the stellar hospitality of Jaihoon and his wonderful wait staff. We were made to feel like instant family. Jaihoon had 2 glasses of hot tea brought to the table while I waited for my three friends to arrive. Delightfully, Jaihoon also sat down, too, to enjoy a tea with me as we enjoyed a nice chat about Turkish cuisine, Galata, and the local food scene. What exceptional hospitality! The food presentation was perfectly organized and very impressive. Our Chaldean friend helped us navigate all the food and how to combine items together for maximize flavor and authenticity. Jaihoon and the waitstaff knew we were in good hands, but continued to also answer our questions and checked on our table. The restaurant filled up within 40 minutes, and reservations are recommended. The ambience at Galata is happy and energized. It is fueled naturally by the pure enjoyment of everyone enjoying their meals and beverages over conversations and communing with family & friends. We four friends came hungry to Galata, and so enjoyed all of the flavors of The Suktan Breakfast, our epicurean adventure in Turkish cuisine. We loved every morsel and still had 2 containers that left with us. We're already planning on a return for dinner. 4.5 The Lamb chops were good, nice grilled flavor and seasoning. You get some different sides, that were also good. The rolled-up meat dish (Beyti Kebap) was good too. Not liked in the photos. Larger and a lot fewer. Turkish tea was nice too. They were out of the lamb skewers that we wanted to try. The service was slow. The waiter didn't speak good English and waited on another table that came 10 minutes after us that had what appeared to be their Turkish friends. It took at least 45 minutes to get our food. So not a place to go for a quick lunch. Will be back since the food is good and different. The pasties Simit and Acmi were good too.
