If he's willing to figure out a problem and "fix" it for FREE over the phone, he is not going tell people to do unnecessary repairs when he actually comes out to someone's home. He may not be able to diagnosis your issue over the phone, but know that if offers a repair, he's not doing it simply to squeeze money out of you.
