Met up with some friends and heard live music coming from the outdoor patio, so we decided to stop in. Janelliez was our server, and she was attentive, friendly, and provided good service during our visit. The outdoor patio is a great place to enjoy a meal, and the live music from the next door Foxy's Hideaway added to the atmosphere. The tempura shrimp were plump, crispy, and full of flavor. Unfortunately, the cheese curds were disappointing, because they were hard and overly salty. One thing to keep in mind is that seating was very limited on a Sunday around midday. No greeting as you walk in, so we just sat down. You are given a menu. It's a dive bar, so I didn't dare ask for anything special. Bloody mary was really good and when I mentioned that, zero reaction. Alridy then. I will keep my compliments to myself. I seriously regret tipping $20 bucks. UGH She did ask if the food was good though, once. We had the flatbread the night before at Foxy's and whoever brought it by was really sweet, so we assumed the following day we would get the same service. Heck no. Anyway, will say the food was good. Finishing up with my bicycle ride, I was recommended to come here by someone on the street. I asked for something health conscious to one of the bartenders and she recommended the chicken ride bowl. She had curly black hair if my memory is telling me the right thing. She was very nice and the food was fast and amazing. They have everything from health conscious items to your bar food. read more

We went to an event in East Dundee and I had a taste for a burger, so tried this restaurant. My boyfriend and I split their regular 1/2 lb burger with fries. I added a side of coleslaw too. It was a nice atmosphere, the staff was friendly, the food was good and was reasonably priced. We ate outside, which was nice. They are in the process of updating their menu and their outdoor space. I look forward to going again when the changes are done too. I met Joe, the owner or manager and Karyssa, who was a bartender, and server and supervisor, I think. They were both very nice. Another place to get beer and burgers. Diamond Jim's is in the not so rough neighborhood of downtown East Dundee. It has a casual fun atmosphere with lots of loud music. Has many typical bar items. They also have a few vegetarian friendly options. Came here recently for watching a game. It was busy but we could still get seats at the bar and get served. They had a lot going on there. It was packed with others taking up all the tables and they were trying to keep up with it all. We amazingly didn't have a long wait. A rum and Coke is $3 for a strong pour. They have quite a liquor selection. As for the food we each got a Beyond Burger. It's about $12 for a pretty big one. This comes with a choice of a side, among these being a salad. Decided to go out to dinner and was excited about Diamond Jim's since we never been there. first thing i noticed is there is no way for a person with a wheelchair or a walker to get in the building no ramp my wife has to use a walker so it is very difficult for her to climb stairs so she powered through the stairs to get to the door. Walked through the door and we see nothing but pub height tables so my wife powered getting up on one of the chairs which is very difficult but she made it. We ordered some guacamole and chips the chips are excellent guacamole not so much. we ordered our meals the pierogi entree and a patty melt just okay nothing to write home about. i do understand it is a bar that serves food. So this is what really turned me off from this establishment it wasn't the food it was this. when we arrived there were two ladies i don't know if they were employees or regulars. they left and came back with food from another establishment and decided to eat it at the bar. If Diamond Jim's allows that kind of thing that is okay with me but the bartender should have asked them to sit at a back table and eat their food. I would think that eating food on the bar that wasn't from Diamond Jim's could send a message that our food is not very good so go get food elsewhere and bring it in and eat it at the bar. We will probably not go back just because of the ADA issues. read more

Another sad but true case of "first time and last time!" Went to the outdoor patio on a warm summer evening to what I had hoped to be a nice dinner with my spouse and another couple. Red flag number 1- why the HELL do they permit smoking where food is being served!?!? Didn't they pass laws on that shit! Apparently it's ok to do outside in a dining area as long as they are 15 feet away from the entrance door. Even after we moved to a table far in the corner, a smoker would find us and pollute the area. I used my napkin as a breathing mask. They were out of oysters that my husband wanted for an appetizer, so we opted to share a grilled chicken wrap with their "Signature potato salad." Dang, I would be ashamed to put my signature on that cuz it was not fit to eat! It was warm not cold like potato salad should be served and was extremely bland. I will say the wrap was good, but it doesn't matter at this point. Our friends enjoyed their ROOM TEMP beer too-NOT! Yuck, how about checking the temperature on your coolers? And last but not least, the service. What service!!! When I simply questioned our server upon our arrival about the smoking, you would have thought I asked for a blood donation or something. We were ignored the rest of our stay. I needed a water refill desperately but didn't get it until our check came. Never ONCE checked in on us to ask how everything was- CARDINAL SIN in this industry!!! Oh yes, one more thing. They had a giant fan out there blowing on the bartender. We moved it ever so slightly to attempt to blow the smoke away, they realized it and moved it back only to piss off several other customers who went to the staff to complain as well! I wish I could post a review on the food but I never got that far. The barkeep at the outdoor area said to take a seat and someone would take care of me. There were two wait staff, both women, and I'd say the patio was half occupied about 1205pm 6/25/20 Thursday. I sat, waited 20 minutes, and not once was I addressed by either staff. There is an ironclad rule in this business and that is if it's hectic, you're busy, all you have to say is "welcome, I'll be with you in a minute." Acknowledging your customer is rule one. Bait & switch ! Read the menu online. Friday all you can eat fish fry great ! So we thought we would give it a try. Ordered the food off the menu there . I ordered Friday special all you can eat fish fry right from the menu. Ate my fish and ask for a couple more piece and was told it is not all you can eat . I said the menu on line and the menu there said all you can eat . The lady with the old hands and finger nail polish said it is not all you can eat, and if I wanted any more, they would charge me . This place is so awkward to get into (the area. the parking lot.) I love the service here. The servers and bartenders are all women and they are all great. Ask for Alfie to take care of you guys when you're there. She's fast and great at remembering everything even on a busy night! Was here with a group of friends for my friends 21st birthday. It was laid back at first then towards the end of the night there was live music and a cover band which was so awesome. The crowd here is a good mix and seriously everybody is friendly. EVERYBODY. I mean everyone was so nice. You didn't have to worry about getting into a fight if someone bumped into by accident. It was seriously refreshing here. FOOD: I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with a cup of pasta and sausage soup. That really hit the spot. I just hated that the door kept swinging open so it cooled off my food more than I had wish it did. My food didn't stay hot for more than 5 minutes :( oh well... I thought it was still good. If this place could have negative stars ratings that would be more than what they deserved. Service..... Well there isn't any. Nothing like waiting to see your waitress to place your drink order for at least take 30 minutes. Don't worry the owner will walk around and watch while his customers leave angry while doing nothing to help his understaffed establishment. Monday night is pizza night but they only have two ovens! What a joke! So don't order more than two pizzas or you will be eating in shifts. But other peoples pizza will also come out while you still wait on your completed order. Do you like hair as an addition topping on your pizza too?? What a pleasant surprise after waiting more than an hour and a half for three pizzas but a blond hair wrapped around burnt chicken and cheese! Watch your bill! Charged me double and when questioned they were like oh sorry about that. One thing after another. We came here for dinner instead of for the bar scene. When you first walk into Diamond Jim, you are hit with loud music and the stale alcohol smell that most bars have. If you walk through the narrow building to the back, there are a set of stairs that lead to a dining area. This area is surprisingly pleasant to dine in, the stale smell of alcohol dissipates and music is at a reasonable level where you can easily hear the person across the table. Me and my fiance both ordered cheeseburgers. They were really good but I'm not sure if I'd say it was better than Vans down the street. The beer selection is no where as good as Bandito Barney's which is also down the street. I'd only come to Diamond Jim's if I wanted both good burgers and alcohol at the same time, or else I'd go to Vans first and walk to Banditos afterwards. My only complaint about Diamond Jim's is that the bottle of alcohol I ordered was labeled with a "best by" date that passed a year ago. When I mentioned it to the waitress, she asked me if I still wanted to drink it as is. I said no and she went down to see if she could get me another bottle. Unfortunately they didn't have any bottles whose "best by" dates hadn't passed. It makes me wonder how many bottles of this expired alcohol they had sold. Thankfully she removed the alcohol tab from our bill without us having to ask. I placed an order for pickup and was not given any plastic ware to be able to eat my food with. I asked for plastic ware and ketchup, or barbecue sauce, stating barbecue sauce was the preference. I was advised they didn't have bbq sauce to go, which was fine. The woman at the check in table taking temps to allow people in, who brought out my food went off to get the plastic ware and ketchup. This took about 5+ minutes because she was clearing tables while I was waiting for the requested items. She came back with the items except that the ketchup was in a plastic shot glass with no lid because they ran out of to go ketchup packets. Ok, fine. Then why could I not have gotten bbq sauce? She said we don't do that. And she wasn't nice about it. But they give uncovered ketchup? Shaking my head on that. The food was decent, and I would consider ordering from there again. My boyfriend and I stopped in for a burger on Saturday, March 24th. With my burger, I ordered cheese fries. And we also ordered a glass of Beach Blonde. Upon ordering my cheese fries, I was told the waitress that she would have to see if they had them, as they had not had them the day before, she never got back to me so I assumed that they indeed have cheese fries. Upon receiving our food, the burgers were over done (supposed to be medium, and medium rare) there were not pink at all, the cheese fries were not made the same as they used to be. Instead of melted shredded cheese, and real bacon, they used a big glob of nacho cheese, and bacon bits! And the beer was at best luke warm! We will not be spending our money here again. I wonder if they're taking short cuts on food etc., to pay for their recent remode. I only gave three stars because the waitress was great! read more

This is a hidden gem. Don't let the small house looking exterior fool you. They have a nice size inside but where this place excels is the outside courtyard/beer garden it's huge and with love bands and always something new and awesome on the menu Jims always satifies. The Owner Freddy is always around to make sure everything is just right. Juke box is always playing good Rick music and the crowd is always friendly. A great mix of people food and fun. read more

The extremely thin crust is something that I have been searching for after living in Chicago for 15 years. It was a blessing to go on Monday when the pizza is only $5.00... Went here during covid and they have their stuff strait! Masks required and temp checks, I felt very safe to be there. Joe took care of my party and he was very friendly and extremely attentive.
