Had a great time at the Blue October concert. The company/ person I was dating could have been better but you live and learn. Right? The band was awesome but again the person I was with was a bit of a drag and distracting. The stage was smaller than I expected but what a fun atmosphere for a outdoor concert. Seating is limited/ no chairs allowed/ can bring a small beach blanket Beer sold but if you can skip the alcohol you can bypass entry lines and go right in because you don't need to wait for the wrist band. Which was cool because this show was on a Thursday night and I wasn't about to drink on a work night! Food Trucks: there were several we ate at a really good bbq one. Water, sodas, and Beer available. Parking was only 5.00 Concert shirts: I got mine

I had the chance to attend a wine tasting event last night. It was the first time I've been to this venue-I was actually surprised that it was there. It's hidden in the second level of the building where you rent ice skates-I had no idea the place existed. Our group was pretty small-about 30 people in total-and we were seated at round tables facing the presenter. The room was comfortable and very open. The event was held in the evening and we were able to enjoy the downtown lights from the windows surrounding us. Lighting was soft but ample. Parking was not too bad-we parked in the Wells Fargo building and walked about a block over to the building. Signage was a little lacking, but we figured out where we needed to be. If you are looking to host your event in a comfortable and downtown location, this might be a fun place to consider.

Oh Gallivan Center! The place that's in the heart of the city. A man made park. Perfect for a city person to get enough sunshine and still be ok with the cold. During winter they have an outdoor ice rink. Beautiful lights shining down and amazing fun music to skate to. It's very inexpensive too. Their summer time the Gallivan Center turns into a contest/event location. I've been to serval of the summer events and it's amazing. The beer fest is surprisingly really popular there. And the twilight concert was hosted there this year. Best part is that if you work there. Every Thursday is food truck Thursday's.

Packed with all the "cool" peeps (pun definitely intended).

Great place for a fun night. I've only ever been here for ice skating but I know they host a variety of other activities in the sunny months as well. It's always pretty busy and the rink is pretty tiny too. Lots of little kiddos testing out their skating legs and breaking their tail bones on the ice. It's a magical place though, right in the middle of SLC (and the Maverik Headquarters is just across the street, so ending the night off with a cup of hot cocoa is the way to go). The employees are a bunch of young high school aged kids, they love to chat with each other but at least know the answers to my questions and know what size of skate to grab me. So I can't complain. They sell some treats inside too, drinks and baked goods. TIPS & TRICKS: * Purchase your tickets on Groupon! You'll save $3 a person (normal cost for adults is $9). * There are lockers available, I'm not sure if they're for rent or complimentary but I'd honestly just bring a card with you and leave your purse under the seat in the car. You'll be happy not to skate with it or risk spending more money on renting a locker--sorry I didn't get any more information on that! * Lots of bench seating around the rink if you're more of a spectator.

We attended Empire of the Sun and Big Wild for the Salt City Sounds Concert Series. This location is great! It is easy to find a good place to see and the artists love interacting with the crowds since the stage makes it more intimate of an environment. I am a big fan of this venue! At smaller concerts, it is easy to bring a blanket and just sit out.

The Gallivan Center is an venue that has outdoor ice skating during the winter season and in the summer season has different outdoor events ranging from concerts to festivals. It is convenient to travel to via Trax because there is a station station that stops right near it. I think this place is a great addition to Salt Lake City and it just adds to the culture of this ever-growing metropolis of Utah.

Free concerts in the park 7:39-9:30 with dancing! This was really relaxing and entertaining. The food trucks were there also. Bring blankets or chairs are avail. We brought snacks and playing cards. Fun for family night or date night or hanging with pals.

Gallivan center has a lot of good food and ice cream places. In the winter they do an ice skating rink making it super cool and really neat!

Without that influencing my rating too much (a free, private Killers show is obviously a 5 Star rating), the venue stands out on its own pretty well and exceeded my expectations. Pros -Size: this place is huge and has a wide open standing-room area in front of an elevated stage as well as a cat-walk like elevated area that rings the floor. Provides lots of good viewing angles with few obstructions from the stage. The House of Blues comparison is accurate as far as feel, but the venue is far deeper. A little bit bigger than the Fillmore in SF. -Sound: good sound and light production. I heard the Killers loud and clear (and for several hours after) and my mind was blown a few times by swell light effects. Cons -Drinking Situation: this is Utah so I didn't expect a first-rate drinking experience and got about what I expected. I think this place is 18+ most times, so the bars are all on the second floor which created bottle necks and inconvenience if you wanted to be front and center at the stage. To compound that is the Utah alcohol laws that meter out your liquor at 1 oz. pours, wine at 5 oz pours and dumb-down the % in the beer. This also makes for slow service, and at $9 a pop for cocktails you're paying big city prices for kid-table drinks. (Also think about this when ordering anything which rightly should have more than 1 oz of booze in it. A martini in Utah is not a good idea.) All in though, this is more a critique of Utah's drinking regulations and so I can't rightly hold it against The Rail for doing their best in that administrative climate. -Location: it's literally on the wrong side of the tracks. Not sure where the cool going-out areas in SLC are, but Rail did not seem to be near one of them. Most of the city was well East of this location and it took a bit of a special effort to get here.

I like my music venues a little smaller, older, grittier than this. Kind of reminded me of House of…read moreBlues in LA (sorta gimmicky, contrived). But that's not to say this is a terrible location. The sound was decent. The main floor is your basic general admission free-for all, and there were couches, tables in the upstairs, balcony-ish area (wraps all around the venue) that had a lounge-ish feel. Overall, this spot doesn't really take away from the music, but doesn't really add to it either.

I had never been before and really had no idea what to expect. I am pretty sure they play here a lot, but we got to see the Spazmatics and man oh man...I LOVED them so much. They played music that everyone loved and they were great about playing the music. The singer was in key and sounded a lot like the artists. They made the experience so much fun throughout the entire night. The drinks were good. I started with a few Jack and Cokes, Run and Cokes, we took some shots, and I drank some hard cider throughout the night. Really, no complaints about any of it. Everything tasted as it should. The shots we had are sometimes called Copper Camels, other times they are called Buttery Nipples. I am convinced it is the same drink in the same way I am convinced that the two shots I had of it, added 10 years to my life. It seriously was the best shot I have ever had and the bartenders made it perfect both times. We were in there for a birthday so we brought cake and decorations and all that.
