We had such fun at the ice skating rink at the gallivan center when visiting salt lake city during Christmas break. It was affordable and quick service to get the ice skating boots and they fit great. Plenty of space inside with restrooms and also some bites to eat! They also had lockers for quarters! Update time. Gallivan center is a cool music venue in the heart of downtown. Twilight concert series play here during the summer and it gets packed!! Still unable to see the stage. They don't allow ESA animals in which is bullshit but hoping the new law will pass soon. Some food vendors and alcohol. Nice to listen to live music in the fresh air and people watch. This venue used to b nice and intimate but now they are outselling the shit out of so it's a lot of people in one small space. Parking is rough. read more

Had a great time at the Blue October concert. The company/ person I was dating could have been better but you live and learn. Right? The band was awesome but again the person I was with was a bit of a drag and distracting. The stage was smaller than I expected but what a fun atmosphere for a outdoor concert. Seating is limited/ no chairs allowed/ can bring a small beach blanket Beer sold but if you can skip the alcohol you can bypass entry lines and go right in because you don't need to wait for the wrist band. Which was cool because this show was on a Thursday night and I wasn't about to drink on a work night! Food Trucks: there were several we ate at a really good bbq one. I had the chance to attend a wine tasting event last night. It was the first time I've been to this venue-I was actually surprised that it was there. It's hidden in the second level of the building where you rent ice skates-I had no idea the place existed. Our group was pretty small-about 30 people in total-and we were seated at round tables facing the presenter. The room was comfortable and very open. The event was held in the evening and we were able to enjoy the downtown lights from the windows surrounding us. Lighting was soft but ample. Parking was not too bad-we parked in the Wells Fargo building and walked about a block over to the building. Signage was a little lacking, but we figured out where we needed to be. If you are looking to host your event in a comfortable and downtown location, this might be a fun place to consider. read more

Oh Gallivan Center! The place that's in the heart of the city. A man made park. Perfect for a city person to get enough sunshine and still be ok with the cold. During winter they have an outdoor ice rink. Beautiful lights shining down and amazing fun music to skate to. It's very inexpensive too. Their summer time the Gallivan Center turns into a contest/event location. I've been to serval of the summer events and it's amazing. The beer fest is surprisingly really popular there. Great place for a fun night. I've only ever been here for ice skating but I know they host a variety of other activities in the sunny months as well. It's always pretty busy and the rink is pretty tiny too. Lots of little kiddos testing out their skating legs and breaking their tail bones on the ice. It's a magical place though, right in the middle of SLC (and the Maverik Headquarters is just across the street, so ending the night off with a cup of hot cocoa is the way to go). The employees are a bunch of young high school aged kids, they love to chat with each other but at least know the answers to my questions and know what size of skate to grab me. So I can't complain. They sell some treats inside too, drinks and baked goods. TIPS & TRICKS: * Purchase your tickets on Groupon! You'll save $3 a person (normal cost for adults is $9). * There are lockers available, I'm not sure if they're for rent or complimentary but I'd honestly just bring a card with you and leave your purse under the seat in the car. You'll be happy not to skate with it or risk spending more money on renting a locker--sorry I didn't get any more information on that! * Lots of bench seating around the rink if you're more of a spectator. read more

Fiddlers has been a constant go to in our family for many years. I chose to celebrate my 65th Birthday with my family there. We did not know it was sold/ under new management, however we guessed it had to have been. Service, not good, food was not even close to being what it was (on some of the same choices that we used to enjoy). I won't be back. We attended Empire of the Sun and Big Wild for the Salt City Sounds Concert Series. This location is great! It is easy to find a good place to see and the artists love interacting with the crowds since the stage makes it more intimate of an environment. I am a big fan of this venue! At smaller concerts, it is easy to bring a blanket and just sit out. read more

The Gallivan Center is an venue that has outdoor ice skating during the winter season and in the summer season has different outdoor events ranging from concerts to festivals. It is convenient to travel to via Trax because there is a station station that stops right near it. I think this place is a great addition to Salt Lake City and it just adds to the culture of this ever-growing metropolis of Utah. read more

I really love what Gallivan Center has become. My last review (almost 5 years ago!) detailed some of the past, and the construction and changes that they've made. Fast forward to now, and you're seeing the fruits. I've really been impressed with the variety of events that we've seen there over the years. I've been to eating things, music things, vendor things, and everything in between. Credit the venue and the staff for keeping it super tidy and always friendly. You should keep an eye on the SLC events calendar, as many events happen here. Especially in the summer, you could probably plan most weekends around what's going on, from concerts of the guitar and drums variety, to concerts of the string and baton variety. Don't forget the ice skating rink in the winter. Besides the open plaza, they do have an indoor events venue that can be rented, with compatible facilities to any other event venue rental space, and of course, the staff to man the event. That could be a corporate meeting, or wedding reception venue, or anything that needs a space and a room with a view. Here's hoping I get to spend much more time at Gallivan. read more

I absolutely love the Gallivan Center for all of its year round activities. It's never a dull moment if you get a chance to visit one of the events they host frequently. I follow them on Facebook to keep up with all that's going on here. On Tuesdays til the end of this month, they've been doing Big Band Dance Night. Basically there's a huge band playing music with dance lessons for you to get your groove on in a manner of unison. Tax dollars going to this? I sure hope not! Pitiful management. Lack of directions. Just winging it on the tax payers dime. We walked around the building multiple times trying to figure out where the entrance is, as the entrances we used in the past were all locked up. Several others hoping to attend were also circling the building trying to find an open entrance to the venue. Wasted 10-15 minutes, which would have had us in the door with plenty of time. It turns out the brilliant minds of the Gallivan Center moved the venue to a smaller location across the property, zero signage; now totally lacking in seating. The people we held the door for were given the last seats and.... we were turned away. What the h.. can I have my gas money and parking fees back? More importantly, please return to me my time the Gallivan management wasted! And the lost opportunity cost of not investing our evening into something actually reliable. Oh, you can't?? To the management of the Gallivan Center, you are an inept joke. You totally let down potential supporters. Please, SLC, shut the whole thing down and stop wasting our tax money in this pathetic social experiment where shortsighted libtards with unkept hair and wild eyes try to actually manage events. Just because the concert series is art related doesn't mean it has to be managed by limp fluff-brains with sparkly aspirations yet who are divorced from reality. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. This was absolutely the worst venue I've been to in my entire life, they overcharged so much, you had to wait in a line for an hour to even get into the venue, and the most problematic thing of all was that they overbooked by 500%. There was so many people you couldn't walk anywhere without someone almost spilling a drink on you. There is so many people you can't even move or breath. The entire floor is practically flat so unless you are in the front you can barely see the stage, so all you can do is stand, but if you're shorter than 6 feet it's impossible to see the stage or the band preforming. I paid money to see an band preform not just listen to the music from super far away and get smashed by a herd of people. Dont waste your money on this overpriced event. read more

The Gallivan Center is looking SO great these days! They are hosting lots of cool events and I am loving it. Quite possibly the best is the food trucks congregating there on Thursdays. Gallivan is a gorgeous little spot to spend a lunch hour in the summertime. In the winter, ice skating here cannot be missed. I think it's a great place/venue for events! I've been to several here. One was a World Cup watch party a few years ago which was a lot of fun. I also attended a concert here before that. It is a smaller venue, which makes it fun for concerts because you can generally see the artists better. I like the the layout too, as there are different levels in the architecture and it's kept really clean as well. read more

This pertains specifically to the ice rink in the winter, never visited in summer. The ice rink here is god awful, I've skated all across the US and before coming here the worst ice rink I'd ever skated on was an outdoor rink in Northern California. This easily tops that rink, the snow was so think on top of the ice that it was practically snow-shoeing. Instead of paying $10 to stumble around on the ice, you might as well just skip paying entirely and walk around the ice in your shoes. You'll get the same experience either way read more

Galli can center is a rad little book of Salt Lake City and specifically downtown that they have built up and established with cute eateries and in the winter they have an ice skating rink. In summer this is where they host craft lake city DIY festival. They also host summer concerts here sometimes when the weather is good. The outdoor space is great and pretty open to use for a wide variety of things so I'm glad they are at least doing that! Everything is newer and updated. read more

I took my two kids and a couple of their friends ice skating at the Gallivan Center ice rink yesterday for the first time. It was their second time ever ice skating so they started out slow and cautious. They skated for two hours and they were having so much fun they didn't want to leave! I love that the rink is small (not too intimidating for kids) and my girls especially liked having the hand rail to hold onto at first. I didn't skate with them and there were plenty of places for me to sit and heaters to stand by when it got cold. I love that there is a bathroom really close - just inside where you get your skates. The floor is all rubber so you don't even have to take off your skates to go in the bathrooms. Also, I appreciated that the rink has an Ice Guard on duty. I saw one help a lady who had fallen and hit her head. My girls are begging to go back again and I'm sure we'll be back at least a couple times before winter's over. read more

Right in the middle of Salt Lake City you will find the Gallivan Center (plenty of parking that you will need to validate if you want it free). Fun activities for the family and friends. We did ice skating during Christmas break and was very neat, with all these illuminated trees that gave some nice contrast to the gloomy inversion happening there. There are various restaurants there, so once there, you don't need to get the car and find another parking spot. read more

Man this place is pretty cool. I just moved from Denver which was always happening and there was always something to do. But The Gallivan Center has free concerts during the summer which are AWESOME! Who would've thought I could see Lil' John, on a Wednesday, FOR FREE? That's right people, completely free. Sure food and drinks inside are a little pricey, but they honestly weren't outrageously priced. And there was nice grass to sit on, not too crowded, and the sound system was surprising great! I'm excited to see what concerts they hold here next summer. I will definitely be checking out the ice skating rink this winter too! I had my wedding reception here summer of 2014. We rented the stage and grass area. The cost was pretty affordable. My mom and I worked with Amy majority of the time. She was pleasant to work with and always had time to speak with us over the phone or via email. We had minor hiccups down the road with the office but nothing that would prepare us for the disaster a head on my wedding day. The first issue we had was a very rude voicemail from Bart (the event manager?) calling my mom who was busy in meetings all morning to remind her he could cancel our event if she failed to pay the remaining amount on our event that was due that day. This voicemail was not a friendly or courteous reminder. My mother had until close to pay and had no intention to forfeit the money she left as a deposit. A week before our wedding my partner and I went down to the Gallivan to check out the lighting during dusk. To our surprise there was a wedding in the same spot! We took notes from a distance and even got a back stage tour by the event staff that was working the event that night. This reception had a live band that ended around 9 or 10 and then had a DJ playout the rest of the evening. We left around 11:00 pm and their party was still going strong. This interaction with the staff made me look forwards and feel like I was going to be in good hands BOY WAS I WRONG ! Our reception started at 6 pm on a Friday and was scheduled out till 10. We were told by Amy via phone (our mistake not having it on an email) that the cost for the venue was a set price regardless of how long we use it for,the only hourly charge is security who is there regardless 24/7 watching the grounds. If our event ran later than 10 pm we would just be charged the additional security fee of 14.00 an hour. Sounded great ! While I was greeting my guests the man in charge of security and the building (I never got his name or title) got my attention and told me the food cater's truck had to be moved. Why he felt to burden me with this instead of speaking to the cater is beyond me. I grabbed my aunt and passed on the message. The evening went on great until again around 9:30 I believe. My guest were dancing and the music abruptly turns off, the same guy came up to me and my partner and tells us the music was too loud and had to be turned off at 10. We told him that we were not informed about this (you would think that that would be one of the first things The Gallivan would tell you on the tour before you rent the place) We told him that the reception a week before us went long past 10 with a live DJ and that concerts go on here as well. We came to an agreement to turn down the music but not turn it off. An hour later the same guy came up to us and said our party was over and to pack up. Not only did he say this but allowed the other members of security to badger my mother who had come into the discussion and told the members of security to stop bothering the us, the couple and that she was the name on the contract and would be handling any questions or concerns from them. These men were yelling and turning red in the face and even threatened to call the police if we did not end our event. Let me assure you our party was not getting out of hand or were our guests being disrespectful to the grounds. Security finally let off but instead of doing their rounds on the rest of the property they all just leered at our event from a close distance. We ended our event around 11:45 My mother later wrote an email to Tatyana Koshevaya about our experience with security. Her reply (which I wanted to upload as a photo but took multiple screen shots) didn't address our concerns about how rudely we were treated by security. She simply brushed us off. My partner and I feel like the members of securities actions were influenced by bigotry and prejudice. It's a shame such a lovely and special event celebrating two peoples love and commitment was ruined by such small minded people. Gallivan Center - Gorgeous wedding ruined by Gallivan security - Parks Near Me - Salt Lake City, Utah

My husband and I had never been to the Gallivan Center pre-construction, that I can recall, so this review is strictly based on ice skaing. We had an easy enough finding the ice rink, and luckily middle of the day downtown parking wasn't insane so we got to park at a meter nearby and walk to our destination. The ice rink was surprisingly small, I am used to skating at the olympic oval in West Jordan so I was happy to see there were only a few people on the ice when we got there. The staff was nice, and we ended up skating for about an hour which was well over enough time since it was really cold outside, and the people started to pour in as the afternoon went on. I look forward to going to the Gallivan Center again for another occasion when it's not winter and I can walk around more and check stuff out a little easier. read more

This is a really beautiful place in the heart of downtown. Last summer I used to walk here every day to eat my lunch that I brought from home. There are plenty of benches that are underneath trees to provide some shade. They also have lots of events including concerts, ice skating, and Food Truck Thursdays! The events obviously change with the season, but it's a pretty cool center of fun things. It's tucked behind the big Wells Fargo building, and nearby are some delicious, but often overlooked restaurants. You've got Bangkok Terrace, Pulp SLC, and From Scratch right there on the secluded street side. The only downfall of this place is parking!! I've never had to deal with the parking since I just walked over from work, but the options aren't that great. You've got some street parking and a parking garage, but it's all paid. Bonus though - TRAX station is right there! read more

Never been to an event here, but as a cool little oasis in midst of the big bad city it's a ton of fun. There's a big curvy wall with water cascading everywhere on the South Side. There's a neat statue of kids playing with their adults. A set of water curtains where jets blast down on either side of a walkway through a pagoda. All of this against the backdrop of skyscrapers and historic buildings. Yay! I'm a fan. read more

I came here to ice skate with friends a couple of weeks ago. They have a good outdoor ice rink with music playing and lights that are constantly changing color. I love the atmosphere I'll bring a date next time. Maybe I'll post a cute picture on Instagram with the caption "I only fell once" even though I will have fallen at least a dozen times. I am a little hesitant to offer this review because I don't want this secret to get out. This mid city plaza is a quiet retreat from the city, but IN the city. Outdoor seating (bring your own lunch) and daily entertainment during the lunch hour. Food Truck Thursdays offer a discounted lunch but there are many local fast food places where you can grab food and carry it in. They often have night time functions or weekend events. Nice spacious open venue, with lots of green and water and no interrupting objects on sight, so that you can have a clear view of the stage from wherever you are seated. I'm sure the Gallivan has to be awesome for a live concert experience under the stars and the city lights, or during the day on a sunny day. I was there for SLC's FNO, and it was just okay. I think everyone was frustrated with the seating, as a lot of people were dressed up nicely, so sitting on the stair steps, or the grass weren't an option, thus; making lots of show goers upset. I can't blame it on the Gallivan, so I am not rating 3 stars based on FNO. As a concert venue that it most likely is, the sound system was not as good as I expected considering the center went under massive construction and renewals, the stage is a bit too small, and the lighting could definitely improve. It's just a matter or making it not just better, but make it the best. The Gallivan has the looks and location to be, (and should require) state of the art lights, sound system, and stage. Maybe it's me being picky, but the place would seriously be kick ass with those improvements. The bar upstairs is okay, its cool you can watch the show from upstairs for a killer view. read more

Also a cool place in the winter, ice skating at the rink is cool not only because skating is fun but because the city has managed to create a great enviroment with its holiday lights and music. A great date. A summer tip too. Not many people know that the Gallivan center has a handful of remote controlled motorboats that can be checked out free of charge. Find the security guard on duty during normal business hours and present him with a form of ID as collateral and you can race boats until their batteries die. I work downtown and I cant tell you how many lunch breaks I've spent with friends tooling around with the RC boats. read more

My first time at the Gallivan Center was a pretty special event... the free gathering of USA soccer/football fans for the knock-out round-of-16 match vs. Belgium. Official city and police estimates put the number of fans in attendance at around 3,000... I would agree...and the venue held that number quite easily and fairly comfortably. Bringing chairs was allowed and seemed like a good idea before I left for the game... but at about 15-minutes before the start of the match, everybody in the place stood-up and never sat down. It was 90-degrees and I had not planned on standing the entire time. The city allowed a few food-trucks in... could have used more. The cold-drink machine at the back of the park ran out of cans of drinks... The line for beer was ridiculously long ... kudos to the City of Salt Lake for ALLOWING a beer-stand in the first place, but the day I stand-in-line for a $5.00 3.2% ABV Bud Light.... let's just say that you will sooner see Santa Claus riding along the TRAX on Main Street riding on a silver unicorn. I had a good time, but I ended up bailing at halftime to go up to my wive's office high up in the Wells Fargo tower to look down at the crowd from air-conditioned comfort. I see that there are Friday movies and other music festivals and events over the summer. I am sure I will be back...but for the next couple of months, I will limit my attendance to the hours after twilight! read more
