Anyone who rates this place less than 5 stars has zero appreciation for Classic Arcades. PERIOD. This place is open till 2am and opens at 11 on Weekends. Its amazing!! This is one of the last of its kind. I travel for a living and go to a great many places, I always check the Arcade online directory and so for GGA is the best I have been to in a long time... Remember those games from the past? Perhaps one you recall but do not remember the name? This place has many of the in between games as well as classics. I truly cannot believe I lived here for 5 years before finding out about this place. I come here every year as this is my best friends favorite haunt. The entry fee is very fair for what you get. There are no time limits, You can play any game you want (accept the ones that are broke). At this visit to my surprise they expanded quite a bit. The atmosphere has a good vibe too it. Just like dog owners, gamers personalities are very alike. There are refreshments available for purchase in ample bathrooms when you need them after drinking too much refreshments. The staff is friendly and kind of blended in with the rest of us. Couldn't recommend this place enough to retro gamers. read more

Too the family here on a Sunday afternoon. Very excited to play many of the games, as I have not seen many of them for 20+ years. About 90% of those out on the floor were operational, which was good. A couple I really wanted to play were out of operation. Most of the games were in good operating condition. Would have still liked to see more game selection, surprisingly, particularly could use fewer "street fighting" games. The place is very cramped in areas, particularly in the back room. You can't even play back-to-back and the pinball machines are so close that you can't play side-by-side. Clearly, they need a bigger location. The bathrooms were clean, and a fair number of stools were available. Thanks! Important items for those of us over 40. Despite being a weekend, it was not overly crowded. We were able to get on all the games we wanted. What this place really needs is a lounge area where you can take a break, eat a snack, etc. also would have been cool if they were playing 80's music overhead, but that was not the case (no music, as far as I could tell). Some of the games had the sound turned off, which was a major bummer. Half of the experience for many of these games are the sound effects. read more

Want to take a trip back to the 80s arcade where instead of having a select few arcade games to choose from, you can play every game you have ever played or dreamed of playing as a child with no time limit and with endless lives? THIS IS THE PLACE!!!! We love it here, and from what I understand there is a pinball room, where I will be spending a majority of my time if I ever get back there soon. I'm from Dallas, TX and sadly my city is lacking in arcades (and when I say arcades I don't mean Dave and Busters or Main Even), and on vacation many years ago I came here and absolutely fell in love with this place. Years later I came back, and this place was better than ever. You pay a flat feee, and play for as long as your heart desires at this place. They had a vast selection of 80s style games, so if you're into vintage gaming, this is the place for you. However, the layout is a bit confusing and some spaces can get pretty cramped and tight, if the place gets busy. We were there the other night, and it became a bit of a nuisance to constantly have to tell people to stop their game so that they can move out of the way for you to get through. I would imagine if you're a bigger person or on the plus size of things, this would not be much of a size friendly place to visit. It would be helpful if they can space-out the ends of the aisle more and not try to stuff as much games into one tight corner as possible. It looks messy and takes away from the whole experience. Other than that issue, this place can keep you entertained for hours on end. Lot of classic games that you can't find anywhere else. At times, it can be a bit overwhelming with the amount of games there is to choose from. This is the kind of arcade that you should check out first and get a scope of what they have, and then come back a second time and stick to the few games you actually like playing. All in all, it was a decent experience, and I do plan on coming back here to play my favorite games. read more

Get your old school video game fix on! For $20 for the day...yes day, you can come and go as you please! First time there and I will be back! Don't expect anything that's high end or caters to the "in" crowd...the people that are here are serious gamers, casual players, families coming in for a fun night out and people like me that need my PAC Man fix every once and a while! The aisles are close and the games are lined up side by side, so if you don't like being close to your neighbor...then not the place for you. I've been coming here since my wife(then fiance)brought me here for my birthday in 2014. I keep coming back because it's always fun and always a new experience. There are over 600 games from the 70s to the present, ranging from pinball, platform, fighting, racing, etc. all on free play. So there is something for everyone here. You can tell the folks who run this establishment are passionate about retro arcade games; I brought a friend with last night (Wednesday) from 8pm til 10:30; nice crowd but no waiting for games, which is nice. Highly recommend going here. I also went a week ago Friday, from 10:00pm til 1:00am, and it was a nice crowd; good vibe, though I saw someone was playing my game (Robotron), so I went and played something else, and by the time I returned, it was open. I recently went to Galloping Ghost for the first time over the weekend, and let me just say that I had the time of my life! I love arcade games and video games and this place has a ton of old arcade games, and some newer ones. They even have converted video games into arcade games. There are also a nice variety of different games to play and there are always different games to play, and for only $15 a person for all day, unlimited play you just cannot go wrong! And they accept credit cards so you don't have run around trying to find an ATM in this part of Brookfield. The only thing I did not like was how close together all of the games were. On a Saturday night, it can get pretty crowded. And some people are not afraid to get into your space while you're playing a game so they can really get into playing their game (and those people really lack manners). But, for having over 400+ games you really cannot get away from the lack of space so it didn't bother me too much. My advice: Just watch out for people crowding and standing around not doing anything but talking (and yes, there will be people doing that). They like to stand in front of games and talk or play with their phone. You have to play around them because they don't care if they are in their way and get pretty peeved if they have to move for you. Otherwise, this place is purely awesome! I will definitely be coming back here more often! read more

Ghost and Goblins with unlimited play time? Maybe I will finally see that final level. This place is pretty sweet. Great selection of games, and most of them have free play buttons installed so you can crank in credits. A few of them, I couldn't figure out how the heck to add credits (Pole Position, for example), and some sort of sign or indicator would have helped. A handful of games definitely look like they are barely holding it together, and some of the screens are fading quick, but most of the games are in good shape. The staff seem nice, and we were warmly greeted by a guy when we came in. I did think it was a bit rude when, after spending three hours there, we walked past the front counter and a couple employees repeatedly quizzed us about whether we had paid our entrance fee. Granted, I think they had started their shifts after we first arrived, so it's an honest mistake. But since people have to walk past the front counter to get to games on both sides of the room...well, let's just say I would have liked the benefit of the doubt from the staff. If you're that worried about people sneaking in, then give people wristbands or something. I liked that you could see into the back repair shop of the arcade, even though nothing was really going on in there. I also liked that, since most of the games are from the 80's, the clientele seems to be mostly guys in their late 20's-mid 30's. Most of the younger crowd seemed more interested in the back room with the PS3/Xbox 360 setups. Overall, I would definitely go back. You can make back $15 worth of play time on Terminator 2 alone (yeah, we couldn't beat it...that last stage is ridiculous). Make sure you leave yourself a few hours; I think we were there for four. Oh, and they do have bathrooms, and you can buy soda and candy. Jackpot! read more

This is an awesome place to go with family. It has all kinds of retro games and very entertaining. This place IS MASIVE and I love coming here. Very cool place. The only problem is that it seems like they just throw as many games in there as possible. If some of the games no longer work they should create more space. Additional, some of them do not work and could be serviced. The good part is that if one is not working properly you can go play another awesome game. I heard about Galloping Ghost in a full page article this spring in the Chicago Tribune, but I hadn't had the chance to make the trip all the way from Lincoln Square out to Brookfield. Now that we did it, I'm confident the trip was worth it. We went on a late Monday night, a group of 3 people, and it was a blast. The staff was very friendly and gave us a rundown of the system - pretty simple - $15 for a video arcade buffet of games. It's really impressive looking around, like a time warp back to the 1980s-90s. One member of our group had some background knowledge on arcades and claimed that there were a bunch of rare finds in Galloping Ghost's collection. They also cooked up a sausage and pepperoni pizza for us which was simple but hit the spot; it was a solid food break between sessions with the Simpsons and Star Wars. The place wasn't too busy at that time of night (~10:00) so we pretty much had our choice of all the games. Somehow 2 hours flew by and we had to head out. It was amazing how fast time passed when we got to be like kids again. All of us had to get up early the next morning for school and work, so we weren't able to stay as long as we'd like. However, we all committed ourselves to coming back again soon and taking a stab at their "achievement list"...it's a kind of digital obstacle course they offer, listing various challenges to complete (example: beat George Kastanza's Frogger record from Seinfeld). This place is an amazing deal and a fun evening alternative to a night at a movie or a bar. I'd also love to take my nephews to Galloping Ghost so they can share the fun of my childhood, and all without the quarters. read more

Love it! This arcade reminds me of the of the 1980s arcades that I use to frequent...sadly they are all closed. Happily I found this place! My dreams live again only now I can introduce my kids. My favorite birthday parties growing up were when we'd have full run of the Aladdin's Castle in the mall for two hours, free to play any game we liked as much as we'd like. Galloping Ghost brought that back completely. I spent half an hour playing through the Star Wars flying game that I usually find too pricey to play at the movie theatre. I spent nearly an hour on a truly bizarre Japanese puzzle game that I still don't understand but totally entranced me. And I played a bunch of games I'd never tried. A few games were broken or glitchy, but who cares? This place was so much fun, especially on a Tuesday night when my husband and I essentially had the run of the place. I feel so fortunate to live right down the street. read more

Great arcade and great price. So many games to play and to choose from. Many classics. Downside is most of the multi games machines' screens aren't working properly and missing some other games that I like. Other than that, it's a great place to play arcade games. The greatest selection of yesteryear's arcade games I've ever seen! So much fun to play the old Atari, Nintendo and SEGA/SNES I remember growing up. Not to mention the classics from The Tilt in Ford City and Chicago Ridge, area bowling alleys, and other places of course. Also some crazy stuff from overseas (Or so they look..) Only problem I have with the place is the crabby little long hair that works there. He actually fits in well,when you think about it. Think Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons,m then deduct 350 lbs. All the games are original hardware, and the fact that they have 400 of them is even better! This place is easily one of my favorite places to go in and around Chicago. I grew up with most of the games located within this arcade so when I'm at the arcade, for me it's about as nostalgic as it gets. The staff are friendly and the game selection leave nothing to be desired. Almost all of the games are in great working order, sans the faded screen of Primal Rage =(. Parking is easy and there is a great diner right across the street from the arcade. Also close by is a great bar with a healthy variety of beer! If you are into video games, particularly those from the 80's and 90's, then you will be over the moon for Galloping Ghost! read more

What a great place! Felt like I took a walk back in time. So many arcades I remembered playing when I was younger. Arcades are well maintained, so you're not playing games with broken controls/buttons. Just pay your entry fee and every game is free after. Best old school arcade I've been to. I prefer the free play system this store uses vs using nickels or tokens. Kid friendly, no booze. My only gripe is that some (maybe 10%) of the machines don't work properly. Broken/loose joysticks, etc. Please fix NFL Blitz. The best part is discovering old games you never saw growing up. Fun place for game enthusiast, kids and adults alike. They've raised the price to $20 for unlimited play, a $5 price hike IMO is a bit aggressive. Parking is a TASK. There is absolutely no seating for those who aren't playing, this was a bit frustrating for me, dealing with an injured leg I could not stand around for the 2hours my boys stayed, but wanted to be there to supervise, so I ended up going to sit in my car on this warm summer day, not cool. read more

It took my two sons to GG. Paid $20 per person for 2 hours of unlimited play, no quarters or tokens to worry about. After that long, we all wanted to go home. It's hard to motivate a 9 year to stand anywhere for longer than 2 hours. There are no chairs at this arcade. Just hundreds of arcade games. Unfortunately, the owner and staff don't care about your comfort, just profit. This place is so smelly and I felt claustrophobic. Hard to get around people (some smelly too) while playing games. Totally a fire hazard place and with so much electricity running, it's only a matter of time. The bathrooms smell from the outside. 2 of 3 pinball machines were out of order when I was there. But, I still felt euphoric when I got to play some of the classics that I hadn't played since I was 10 years old, or 14, or 20. (I'm 39 now and I couldn't believe how I could still rock Rampage or Ninja Gaiden and Contra) Think of an arcade game or Atari or Commodore64 game you loved and it is at GG. If I were in High school, I would spend nights and weekends here, but for families and people with sex lives, this is not a place you'd enjoy for much longer than an hour, 2 hours max. read more

I want to like the Galloping Ghost. I really do. It's in a great location and they embrace some classic arcade gaming, which is rare in these days. A positive is that they have a TON of games to choose from, in multiple rooms. There are some refreshments offerings, which is fantastic. The price is a bit steep ($20) if you're going here for just a couple of hours, but it's a great value if you make a complete day of it. Just dress for the occasion - this place gets VERY warm. With so many arcade games, it's no wonder. I can't imagine their power bill... I'm not crazy about the place because, after the glamour of hundreds of arcade games wore off, I started to notice everything that's in disrepair. There are plenty of games strewn about that are in various states of being dismantled (which seems to be a bit of a hazard, I would think). On top of that, plenty of games just aren't playable (faulty joystick, stuck buttons, uncalibrated sensors, ROM is frozen, etc). Furthermore, so many of the games are beat-em-ups. This is great for people that love beat-em-ups, but they get stale after a while. It seems their classic games are few and far-between. I did see that they had two different Tron arcade games (one of my favorites), but one of them had a poor joystick and wasn't playable. Joust was ready to go, however. I was thankful for that. I think the final nail in the Ghost-coffin for me was the pinball. This is an arcade - pinball is expected and often taken for granted. They have about four or five tables (a few of which are turned on) in the back of one of the (extremely warm) rooms. These pinball machines are NOT in good condition. I've played all of them on my visit - one had a ball jam that the machine couldn't resolve. The others had extremely weak action - the flippers didn't have enough "oomph" to get balls up ramps and the like, which makes the game unplayable. I couldn't believe it. The Galloping Ghost is a curious attraction but I'd steer clear until their games are properly maintained. If your party is of-age, it might be best to take the group to an arcade bar in the Chicago area, as those appear to have better maintained machines (though the selection of arcade games are typically slimmer, pinball is usually quite prevalent). For younger patrons, your best bet is Star Worlds out in Dekalb (which is a bit of a drive). read more

Loved the games that worked, but it was TOO HOT to stay for very long. There are some fans blowing but the heat emitted from the machines when mixed with the heat outside made for a very miserable experience. Definitely quantity over quality. So many machines have issues it is sad. Some are just turned off, while others have control or screen issues. I would say 1 in 3 games I tried had something wrong with it. And lets face it, most of these games are not ones anyone wants to play anyhow. I'll give them three stars for the effort of getting lots of games, which you can still spend a lot of time playing. However, they definitely need to fix everything. After having been here a half dozen times over the years, I doubt I ever go back. read more

I been following this arcade on Youtube. This team of techs have been lovingly restoring vintage video game machines. We asked for Ms Pac Man & Star Castle. The employee at front welcomed us and gave directions to our favorites. The sounds around the place is that classic pizza palor/ Sears Roebuck games area circa 1977--1985 white noise. There is a Dunkin Donuts one block away where we took a break. This time machine is well worth the price of admission. read more
