Dirty.. Food is terrible but worst flies were everywhere. Beyond gross dirty tables empty dining room invested with flies. Garbage all over the floor hole in the window. I complained but they had excuses for there gross unsanitary conditions. Flies carry disease. If the dining room is invested image the kitchen.... I reported them to the BOH. Let's see how that pans out. GROSS I'll never go here again. Time to sell the property to a developer. read more

It's a hot dog stand with tables. There is nothing special about the hot dogs here . they are flavorless bologna sticks in over sized rolls in which the hot dogs get lost in. I went there only once and after i ordered the hot dogs i looked up at the menu to see what beverages they had to offer and as i was reading the drink menu the owner was waving his hands in the air gesturing..."Come on , youre holding me up" ...Hey...eff off pal..Lose your attitude or lose your customers. I have been wanting to try this place for the longest time and on Saturday night, I finally did! My boyfriend and I had dinner here, and sat outside at one of the tables, which we liked very much. The menu has pretty much every delicious fried food you could ask for, but I chose a plain hot dog and waffle fries. My boyfriend ordered a cheeseburger and regular fries. My hot dog was great and the waffle fries were so crisp and delicious. I really like how you're able to order beer here, it adds something extra. Its definitely a must for me anytime i'm within 10 miles of there. I get the same thing every time and don't see myself straying too far anytime soon. Double dog, mustard, hot relish, fried onions (not breaded). Its perfect and easily my favorite hot dog anywhere. 32 ounce drafts for four bucks or so to wash it all down is a nice cherry on top. I grew up riding my bike going there and because of that my trip yesterday truly saddens me. The rolls were so awful I took the hot dogs off and ate them on a plate with a knife and fork. I live really close to this place, so during the summer this is one of my family's favorite places to eat. The chicken fingers and onion rings are good, but my favorite part is their ice cream. So good! But you do have to wait in line for a little bit for your food, so that's my least favorite part. But otherwise, this place is great. I have to say, that I have NEVER had a bad meal there, a bad experience there and thankfully have NEVER seen a roach, flea or any other kind of thing that does not belong in a food establishment! However, I have had a super time, good food, great conversation and all for a small price! As to its fame for so many years, I cannot say, but, what I can say is, anytime I have gone there, it has always been full of lines, courteous help and a wonderful good feeling upon leaving. Granted, if you go on a Monday night during the summer, there is a lot more going on than you would expect. A car show, run by The Galloping Hill Cruisers, with loads of antique cars, fantastic oldies music playing and lots of fun! You might have to park your car a distance on those nights and walk, but it is well worth it. Bring your cameras too, because you WILL want to save the memories of these cars you will see. They are unbelieveable, to say the least. All in all, again I have to say, this is a GREAT place for food, fun and retrospecting! MMMMMMMMMMMM :P read more

Not very Good. Today was my first time here. We passed it and it did look very inviting. I was looking forwarding to eating what I thought was going to be amazing food. What a disappointment. The hot dogs were horrible. The hamburger was a frozen patty. My girlfriend and I spent a total of 18 dollars and threw away at least 12 dollars of the food. My first and last time going here. Went there when a co-worker said it was the best hot dog she'd ever had. Since I'm a big hot dog fan and no longer live in north Jersey where I would get my fix at Callahan's (is the one on Rt 46 in Little Ferry still open?), I tried it a couple of weeks ago with my wife. She's not a hot dog fan so she ordered a BLT and some waffle fries. She said the BLT was excellent but wasn't crazy about the waffle fries because they were seasoned. I tried them and thought they were good. I had 3 hot dogs. One with mustard, raw onions and chili. The other with my old standby, mustard and saurkraut and the last one with mustard and hot relish (not really a favorite but was told to try it). I also had the regular french fries with brown gravy (very happy to see it on the menu board!). To wash it all down I was happy to see they had Yeungling on tap for just $3. They have an inside air conditioned dining room with waitress service, but plenty of outdoor seating right next to the place itself and in the parking lot. I saw they had a very extensive menu but I'm just going to talk about what I ate that day. I thought the hot dogs had a very good bite to them and were very tasty, but like Joe C. writes, the bun was way oversized for the size of the dog. The bun, which is different from any hot dog place I've ever been to, had a nice chewy texture to it. It was definitely the best hot dog bun I'd ever tasted, but I'm there to taste the Dog! There is Way To Much bread for the size of the dog! They need to make the buns about half the size they are now, or make the dogs bigger! The hot dogs were slightly larger than a Sabrette though way better tasting. They do offer a double hot dog on one bun which is what I'll probably try the next time I go back. One of the regulars I spoke to said they get their dogs specially made for them from a place in Connecticut. Anyway, the chili meat is very finely chopped, almost like a sauce, but tasty enough. I would have preferred it a bit thicker. The saurkraut was average, but how different can saurkraut actually be, right? The hot relish was good but relish just isn't my favorite thing to put on a dog. Finally, the french fries with brown gravy were delicious! I always use to order them back in the day when me and my friends would hit the diners at 3 in the morning after going to a club. They were as good as I remember. Overall, I'd say give the place a try if you're in the area, but I still think the deep fried in peanut oil dogs from Callahans and Hiram's in Fort Lee were the best! They deep fry them at Rut's Hut in Clifton as well if you're on Rt 3 West. They call them "Rippers". To me, those fat, crunchy dogs with crispy skin, can't be beat! More dog, less bun! I say..........and that's what those old joints gave you. I'd love to hear from any of you who've had a better dog than those aforementioned places. Hope this was a help. read more

This place has been a staple of Union for a long long time. The food is quite good. Always like to get the hot dogs which are really good, they would be excellent if the bun didn't have so much bread. But, regardless they are still good. Everything else is from onion rings to cheese steaks are good too. They serve beer which is a major plus. read more

Town institution- I've been coming here my entire life. Stick with the classics- hamburgers, hotdogs, French fries, onion rings. They recently expanded the exterior and the menu. The new menu additions seem quite popular- $8 for a large pizza. Outdoor seating is hard to get on nice days so make sure you have someone to save you a seat. read more

Good hot dogs and a great crowd. The dogs come served on crisp sub rolls and are pretty good quality. I recommend the barbecue sauteed onions. the sauerkraut wasn't very good, nor was the chili. The fries and sides are worth it, and the other assorted sandwiches (of which i've sampled the chicken sandwiches) are nothing to write home about. Galloping Hill is a staple of union county. More then just a hot dog. cheesteakes are great, wraps are good, although im not a fan of the hot dog roll's. They are to big and swallow up the hot dog. one of my favorite things about 5 points, locally know, is the beer. its great to sit outside on a monday evening with a couple dogs, a pint and the free carshows. great place to visit in the summer. also very family oriented. read more

Oh the regret. I ordered 2 hot dogs with chili and cheese and one with BBQ onions. First off the 50 something year old man that rang me up was rude. My kids are the sixth generation to love the hot dogs at Five Points, AKA Galloping Hill Inn. Having come here since I was kid, there are few places that feel more like "Summer in NJ" than this place. Food is fast, cheap, and delicious and the atmosphere is everything. Finally had the opportunity to eat at GHI on an early Sunday afternoon in January. Ordered a chili dog with mustard and onions The GHI bun is more like a steak roll than a standard hot dog bun, which really helps keep the condiments in. Some may find it to be too much bread. The hot dog is a large 5 to a lb hot dog that is specially made for GHI. Its snap is great and adds to the experience. They also have bbq onions which look great.
