I came here to meet up with friends who were visiting in town and staying locally. We were seated immediately, my friends already got a table. On the weekends this place gets packed. I decided on their Turkey Club Sandwich. It comes with french fries and a side. I chose their Coleslaw which was very good. It's not your typical mayonnaise style coleslaw. My sandwich was loaded with fresh Oven Roasted Turkey Breast,Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato,on a choice of Toast. My Turkey Club was delicious. My French fries were cooked perfectly. My friends ordered breakfast. Garden Omelette with fruit and Salsa on the side. My other friend ordered 2 eggs over easy with sausage and home fries . They both enjoyed their food. The staff was friendly, but they could've used more waiters. Maybe because it was a Sunday and they were slammed. The inside is pretty much like your typical diner. The walls are wood, and they have booths and counter , in the back is a dining room with tables and chairs. They do have some parking in the front, and a free parking lot in the back. The lot does get full. These place is kid friendly, and they have some vegan choices. They have some handicapped parking, and wheelchair accessible. So... previous review below with updates as I see fit: One of the neat things Huck Finn has going for it is being along my shunpike from the Garden State Parkway to I-78. The downside is that I keep forgetting how soon it comes up and I blow past it without stopping - hey guys, get some better sign lighting or something! So I finally saw it late one night coming back from a concert, slammed on the brakes, jumped in the out driveway and made my grand entrance to Huck Finn. (2nd visit was the same... gotta get better at this...) I was seated pretty quickly, ordered my pancake/meat breakfast, and perused the desserts for something to take home. On first visit I had asked for a Sprite, no ice. I got a Sprite, ice. At least it was mostly drink. Food came out pretty quickly both times. Pancakes are large and tasty and the staff happily brought me jellies instead of the butter and (fake) syrup. (Halley brought me all of these things and she'd never met a person who liked jelly on pancakes. So I've enriched her life!) I got the meat sampler, which my first review said was properly labeled as Taylor Ham on the menu but apparently it now says pork roll. EXCUSE ME?!?!?! (Halley is a Taylor Ham person so another reason to ask for her by name.) You don't get that much of any meat, but the one sausage was huge and plump, followed by at least 2 bacons and 2 T-hams. The first visit, one of the hams wasn't really cooked/seared and just "out of the package" pink, but all good the second visit. Also the first visit, I ordered the chocolate covered cheesecake to go, ran it home, and opened it to discover they gave me the chocolate frosted cheesecake instead. But it was high-quality tasty. The new star was added because I made sure to bring home the COVERED one the second time! Halley recommended other cheesecakes as well so next concert(s) I'll have to expand my dessert selection. Overall, I'd say at least four stars for the food and five stars for the quintessential diner experience. The fifth star may yet assert itself going forward. This is definitely a solid choice for a Jersey diner, just note that if you go when Halley's not there, you may need to check everything they bring you to make sure. Best diner in North Jersey. I know that is a bold claim, but this place deserves it. Everything is good. Reasonable prices and often huge portions. For breakfast try the Old Country Omelette. It's egg whites with tons of feta and tons of Kalamata olives and a bunch of oregano. Maybe the best omelette I have ever eaten. The Greek dishes are all spot on. This place is family to me. The owners and wait staff are personable and attentive. My fav meal is the Waldorf salad with minor adjustments of instead of bleu cheese (yuk) instead American cheese and of course, ranch dressing on the side. We waited to be seated about 10-15 minutes and another 45 minutes to get food, so it was around 12 by time we got food. I might come back to try a different meals like lunch or dinner. Huck Finn is pretty much your standard diner experience- Open late, with a wide variety of food choices... burgers, gyros, desert, and even breakfast at 1AM. The dining room is pretty spacious, and there is often little to no wait to be seating, however on Sunday mornings the diner can get pretty packed by members of the local church after mass. The service is pretty great: even when packed, our waitress was quick and attentive, and have never gotten the order wrong in the many times that I've been here. The food is pretty good- the Reuben in particular, something that I get pretty much every time that I go to Huck Finn, has a large amount of pastrami (or corned beef, your choice) and a good ratio of cheese to dressing, and comes with fries and your choice of pasta salad, cole slaw, or cucumber salad... all for around $13. One of the worst experiences at a restaurant in a very long time. Food came out missing several of the side items we ordered. I ordered off the specials menu and did not receive the chimichurri that was noted. When I asked for it, I was told by the waiter that we were given the wrong menu and that they did not have chimichurri. After explaining that I should have been told far sooner, we asked for the manager. He has ABSOLUTELY no idea how to interact with a customer -- no apology.. nothing. Made us feel like WE were wrong for asking for the items we ordered from the menu we were given. Said they we're making the chimichurri in the back. Fine. Had to then ask several times for the pasta salad and dressings we ordered. Chimichurri finally comes out so I can eat, several minutes later.. cut in, steak is raw. All but the end pieces are inedible. We finish eating, no one comes over with the check or even to check in on us. We have to get up to ask the waiter for the check. When I go up to pay, I recounted our horrible experience, bad food, and poor service to the same manager we previously dealt with. He said it was too late to tell him since I didn't send my steak back (instead, just chose to not eat it). I explained that a simple apology would have gone a long way. I also noted that the roof was leaking over a nearby table. He LAUGHED at this. After checking it out last weekend, I now have a new local diner spot. We went there for a late night dinner and were seated in the dining area on the right. Our waitress was super friendly and took care of us. I wish I remembered her name because she was that cool. Both of us liked our food. I had an eggplant milanese panini with fries and my dude had eggplant parm. We had a soup or salad option; he got a house salad and I got the cucumber salad (I really liked this salad). His dish came with a dessert, so we shared a piece of pumpkin pie. Our waitress brought us two forks. The best part was the music they played in the diner - lots of 50s music. I love the food at Huck Finn. I really do. I ate there several times recently and every meal was perfect. I had a pizza burger, omelette, cheesecake and rice pudding just to name a few things. Also, don't sleep on the pasta salad. It's really good. My only complaint is with the service. George, the owner, does not help work staff against hostile environment. A customer who was harassing server and causing problems was allowed to come in and George never stopped a hostile work environment. He did nothing to stop what was beginning to snowball out of control. He says that if you don't like, there's the door. He does not believe in protecting his workers. Not a good place to work. Stay away if you think your labor rights are going to be protected. I have a medical condition too and was not protected. I had a bone marrow biopsy prior to working at Huck Finn and still no accommodation or consideration. I was under the care of a Hematologist/Oncologist but George didn't care. The customer even posted on Facebook to go to Huck Finn, because server was harassing her. So now, the customer asks publicly for help harm a server? How can a server with a medical condition harass her? I was more concerned about relapsing, and the customer was asking personal information about to other other servers. The customer should have been removed from day one. George refused to remove person even though the person was causing concerns. And other servers confirmed that this customer acted the same way toward them when they were hired. A complaint was even signed against customer, because George did not enforce boundaries. How can you work for a guy who does not keep place safe? George sided with Kitchen help and not servers. George should be reminded that people with medical conditions still have to work and pay their medical bills. read more

Just a good, traditional diner! We started coming here regularly years ago (sorry for the late review). At the time they had a delicious and CLEAN salad bar that could be added on to meals. Excellent deal! Of course with COVID, that is gone, but the service and food is still just as good. Whether it's take out or dine in, we always have a good meal. There carrot cake is the best around. Just sweet enough, creamy, and just right. No other carrot cake comes close and there cheesecake isn't bad as well. Even for a diner, this food is unusually wretched. I should know better. Jersey diners now all seem to have 100 fantasy dishes.. veal marsala, moussaka, etc., that they can't really cook. These folks can probably make breakfast eggs, sandwiches, burgers.. but anything else fogetaboudit. The chopped chicken liver available in the salad bar looked lethal. Pie looked good in the case but by desert I was getting ill. Service was totally disorganized, several times bringing us dishes we didn't order. They left them, but taking them home as leftovers would be a waste of styrofoam. Entrees arrived sporadically for our party of 5 over a half hour. No attempt to make it right by adjusting the bill.
