Went here once, received stale (or at the very least overcooked) cookies, which the owner claimed were because "no preservatives are used." She should read a few baking guides about how to ensure proper moisture in cookies so they don't become hard "a few hours after baking." The girls working here are unhelpful and impolite, initially selling us the cookies would be chewy and then trying to walk her ill informed statement back and saying a refund would be impossible for their own bad product. Instead of wasting $10 on dry crackers masquerading as cookies, go down the street to Whole Foods for their fresh cookie bar. You can read the ingredients off (no preservatives added), and someone their cookies retain moisture without going bad at the end of the day. read more

I've been coming to Gallos for years. Having moved out of Cherry Hill to NYC and other areas but still having roots in Cherry Hill, I keep coming back to Gallos. Everything is fresh and all you have to do is call in and place your order to avoid the lottery that is 'what donuts are left at 3pm on a Friday?' Was in my old 'hood and stopped inside Gallo's today in hopes of procuring some of their amazing coffee cake. Unfortunately they were sold out (that's what you get for going to a bakery in the afternoon), so I went to another old stand by: chocolate dipped cannoli! The shells were crispy and fresh, and the kind lady behind the counter went into the back room and filled them for me after my order. Oh was the anticipation eager and breathless, as Gallo's cannolis aren't soggy or lifeless tasting like the ones you may grab at say, a pizzeria. They do charge $1 more for chocolate dipped and I feel it's worth the indulgence at $4 each. The powdered sugar topping is optional and free of charge. Sure, it isn't necessary, but it's a deliciously decadent addition to an already delectable treat. Prices have gone up some since my last visit, but that seems to be happening all over. They do have an AM coffee & donut combo for $2.25. You know the donuts are good and the coffee can't be any worse than Dunkin. I'm glad this location has stuck around, as it's convenient for everyone on the west side of Cherry Hill. They have another store just a mile or so away on church rd and another in Greentree/Marlton near the old traffic circle. I heartily recommend stopping by Gallo's to lower your blood pressure & raise your blood sugar, especially if you must enter the hell that is CVS next door. read more

What a disappointment. Having been wanting to try this bakery for awhile and was finally nearby the other day. Stopped in and got 1/2 lb of a variety of cookies and a raspberry twist. PANDEMIC REVIEW: Quick call to the family while running errands - "Hey, I'm at Gallo's Bakery. Do you want anything?" DONUTS came the shriek. I had never been in a Gallo's before, and as it was late morning, it was standard MASK ON and social distancing all the way. Fortunately, no one else was in the shop, so I could take my time picking out a selection of donuts. I found the ones that my brother in law wanted (cinnamon twists), and also grabbed glazed donuts and my favorite, crullers with a bit of chocolate sauce - I hadn't had one of those since I lived in Tahoe three years ago! This review is just pertains to the St. Joes Pastry (Zeppole, Sfing) only. I am not sure what happened but their St. Joseph's Zeppole recipe was changed. They changed the filling of the ricotta ones. They did not look right but I thought the display was the vanilla cream ones (not the ricotta). . Very pasty tasting. Not much ricotta in them. Shame on them. I guess they are trying to save money but in doing so they destroyed that pastry and I predict anyone who knows a good St. Joes Pastry will not buy them going forward if they don't change the recipe back. I told my daughter already not to waste her money on them. Saddest part is they did increase the price drastically to 5.85 for one. I am ok with that so long as the quality is there. I am extremely disappointed this year. I am not willing to pay .10 cents for them now. I have been buying this pastry there for many years and they were as good as the ones I got in NYC. I recently ordered a photo cake that was ordered a week ago or so for my wife's 50th birthday. The young lady who attended me for my service was pleasant. I told her what I needed, she gave me the proper info and I did what was asked and at the end of me placing my order, an older woman came out from behind a large see through window and yelled at young lady to do something while the young lady was talking to me finishing my transaction, very rudely of the older woman. She obnoxiously said no "we don't do that" when I requested a drawing on the cake with icing, then she instructed the young girl to call someone else to ask if they could do that service, but she was very very rude!! The next time I returned to pick up, I asked the young lady if she could put happy 50th birthday on it. She said "sure and where" I showed her where....The older lady yelled out "Next time you need to settle that out when ordering" but extremely rude. The young lady showed me the cake and it was put very nicely I told her. Then I asked her to put a name on the cake. The old lady yelled at young lady and slammed her hand on the counter and said very loudly "What does he want now? Next time you can't do that!!" Hit up this bakery on a Friday night to grab something sweet to bring to a girlfriends house. There is no seating inside, so this is a strictly "pick up" situation. The staff were friendly and helpful and had informed opinions about the baked goods. The facility was clean. But the selection was just meh. I am very picky about Italian Bakeries having grown up with those great spots in Ozone Park and Howard Beach Queens. Having said that, I will also say that Gallos is pretty solid. Great cannoli and other cannoli cream type pastries. They fill the cannolis as you order! Great donuts and they make an excellent chocolate drizzle ring. Cakes & bread are good-Cookies and some other pastries can be so-so. I really don't like giving bad reviews but I have to be real with you guys. This is was honestly the worst cupcake I have ever had. The cake was dry but that wasn't as bad as the cold hard strawberry icing ( basically strawberry butter) that topped this super small cupcake. I assume this cupcake was in a cooled case that was a little to cold. If I go out of my way to go to a bakery for a cupcake I expect moist cake and creamy sweet icing. I will never be back. I stop in this bakery periodically to get something small to snack on or to get several somethings small to take to a party or dinner. Overall, everything tastes good. They've been sold out of vanilla cupcakes the past few times I've been in, so I've opted for a cannoli, which they fill as they're ordered. They offer ricotta with chocolate chip, vanilla or chocolate fillings. The shell is always crunchy. The ricotta filling is always smooth and tasty. We have stopped by Gallo's in the past to pick up loaves of challah on Fridays and get trays of cannollis for family birthdays. Both of those items have always been good. As other reviewers have mentioned, they do not pre-fill their cannollis, so they are always crisp and delicious. Their challah always tastes fresh baked. This week we placed our first order with Gallo's for their touted gourmet cupcakes. They provided great customer service: we were planning a luau-themed birthday party for my father-in-law, so we had very specific requests about colors. They made great suggestions when we ordered and gave us extra colored jimmies and more suggestions for how to display the cupcakes when we picked them up. We selected the cannollis cupcakes with cannolli filling, in part because we had tasted the filling in the past. Having recently gone vegan, I did not get the chance to taste these cupcakes, but they were a big hit at the party. The price was very reasonable (2.25 per gourmet cupcake, less if you select plain vanilla or chocolate). I am very into supporting local businesses as well as places that provide great customer service and would happily buy from Gallo's again. read more

I got an elephant ear. I think it was larger than an actual elephant's ear. It was humongous. And tasty and flaky and sugary. They also had a bunch of cupcakes with a lot of interesting flavors. Orange creamsicle, snickers, reeses, red velvet, mint chocolate chip, sundae. And all good. Make sure to try the orange creamsicle. Also had a bismark, which is apparently like a donut-cinnamon bun/roll. Very good. But the cannolis are not to be missed. They have mini and full size. Plain and chocolate shells with either a ricotta and chocolate chip filling or a chocolate cream filling. Both totally delicious and well worth the calories. The staff is super friendly and patient, which is harder to find in this part of the country. Been customers for years and love all the Gallo locations! The negative comments caught me off guard so I felt I needed to throw in our experience. The ricotta cannolis are the best around. We buy their cakes for every occasion and they completely outdid themselves for my sister's baby shower. Not the biggest fan of their assorted cookies, so that's what is keeping me from the fifth star. I think the Cherry Hill location has better customer service than Mt. Laurel. They bake fresh at the Mt. Laurel location every day and deliver to the other locations. My sister travels to Gallos from Cape May for all her bakery needs. I ordered a full sheet birthday cake for my baby's first birthday. Design was nice but the cake was salty! So salty in fact that it was not edible. If I weren't so darn distracted that day and they were already closed I would have marched my tush right back there and asked them to taste their nasty salt cake. When I opened the box the salt smell hit me in the face but I blew it off as the smell of the box. WRONG!!!!! I was expecting sweet because buttercream birthday cakes are super sweet but a salt cake left me with nothing but curse words in my mouth on my kid's very first birthday. I will never return.
