Gambino is a pretty average Italian restaurant. We ordered the truffle tortellini and the prosciutto pizza (casa). The portion sizes were gigantic, which is good considering the price tag. The pizza we ordered was extremely salty. Maybe it was the prosciutto, but still, they did not do a good job of balancing the flavors... rather then just threw on the ingredients listed, baked it, and served it. Maybe try a different pizza, but in my opinion, the pizza we ordered did not have great flavor nor was the texture that good. The flavor of the pasta was decent. I wish they had more of the truffle cream sauce because the tortellini itself was very hard and kind of dry. The staff are friendly and helpful (they got me right in on a Friday night without a reservation!), and the food is quite good! Not knowing the size of the food, I ordered a half bottle of wine (good prices!) and a pizza to munch on while I waited for my lasagna. The food came out extremely fast, and the service was attentive and good (in English, too!). The pizza was good..but the lasagna was outstanding. If you like cheese in your lasagna, you are in the right spot...tons of noodles and cheese, and well baked! Delicious! They don't rush you out the door after dinner, and let you stay and have an after dinner drink without pressure. So my first night in Paris with my best friend and we spent hours looking on yelp for a place to have dinner. We were jet lagged and starving. Luckily we came across Gambino. It was a bit crowded and warm; however, the food was amazing. The wait staff seemed a little busy and tended to forget about us occasionally but we understood. The had a full house both upstairs and downstairs. My best friend had the Casa pizza and I got the Lasagna Bolognese. The pizza was a little softer towards the center but the ingredients on it tasted so fresh. The lasagna was a cheese lover's paradise. You knew our food was fresh because our plates were burning. Even by the time we couldn't eat anymore, it was still steaming! Definitely was a great first experience, especially since we couldn't speak an ounce of French. We stopped by here because we were waiting to be able to check into our room at a nearby hotel. What we didn't expect was that we would have one of our most memorable meals here. My wife had a farfalle pasta with a truffle cream and prosciutto. I had a linguini with black truffle sauce. Both were amazingly flavorful and we have never had pasta served like this. What I mean is that cream sauces that we often had in the US were often heavy. Our cream sauces were light and flavorful without any hint of heavy or greasy texture. It was just really nice. In a place where water and coke can cost 4-5 euros, it was nice to be able to get their house wine for 6 euros. For dessert, we had their salted caramel lava cake, which was probably the best dessert we had over the course of our trip to Paris. This meal was a delightful surprise at the end of a trip of great meals. If you find yourself in this area, it's definitely worth stopping by for an Italian lunch or dinner! read more

Prior to walking are way there I've tried to stop and get food because my husband was hangry and the French waiters/workers were completely rude and not welcoming. If you value quantity, decency and low price over high quality then Gambino is your place. The food was prepared quickly and the portions were huge. However, the quality of the ingredients were adequate but lacking for yours truly because I prefer to pay-up for Imberico jambon rather than consume domestic (US) prosciutto. We ordered a couple of different meat infused salads that when they came out looked alike. We also ordered the pasta carbonara to split. All three dishes were huge and each could easily be split by three. This was a dead giveaway that this was a quantity over quality place (I'll explain below why). When the pasta 'carbonara' arrived the sauce was thick and tantamount to an out of the jar alfredo, with large ham morsels thrown in. Taste was ok but it most certainly was not a quality carbonara. Price to quality dilemma: Folks, restaurants are businesses that need to make a profit. If a restaurant is offering a premium costly product like seafood or meats at a very low price, do you think they are providing you with quality products? I know that there those that may say that the establishment may be making its money on the beverages etc etc etc but the general rule of thumb still holds true that if you are receiving an unusual amount of prosciouto and other expensive meats--as was the case with Gambino--but are paying 12 Euros, the quality of the meats is going to be low. And, it was. The waitress suggested a great tasting $35 Euro red wine. Bargain you say? Not when a quick search on Vivino revealed that the retail price for the wine as around $6. I believe this is the single biggest markup of wine at a restaurant that I've ever paid. I also believe this is the single greatest wine value if I can get my hands on some of this wine back in the States. Gambino becomes busy with bargain seekers of food and experience. I, on the other hand, prefer a bespoke dining experience; especially in Paris. So in closing this is a great place for budget conscious diners with strong stomachs. read more

It is just a half block or so off Avenue de l'Opera, but the streets branch so a map-app will help. I arrived around 6:30 p.m. on a Saturday. They were getting crowded but had tables available. I was seated promptly and my server was friendly. I think I ordered a tortellini dish and finished it; good quality. Their wine was good and not overpriced. First off, I'm going to start by saying that the staff here is so nice and attentive. Had amazing service from the time we walked in the door until we walked back out. The food is a bit pricey, but depending on what you order, like the pizza, you get a lot and it's worth it. My husband ordered one of their pizzas (the Salumeria) and he could only eat half of it because it was so large. It was also loaded with toppings as well and tasted great. For myself, I went for the squid ink pasta with scallops since I had been dying to try squid ink pasta and this was my first time seeing it on the menu anywhere. Absolutely loved it and the flavor (a bit salty with olive oil and a bit of a seafood type taste), however if you think you may be turned off by eating black pasta then maybe avoid this one. Honestly the best pasta I have ever had. Location is wonderful, right on the Place Marché Saint Honoré, not far from Place Vendôme and Opéra. With two girlfriends this is "our spot". It's fantastic. I love coming here because it's big, the menu has so many choices and it's the upper end of reasonable. I always get the truffle cream pasta with asparagus and speck, but a few other things on the menu have caught my eye. I'd also like to suggest their fried mozzarella as a starter.
