This is Flagler beach. It is not a soft sandy beach. The beach mostly is broken shells but they aren't sharp and are easy to walk on. The park is gated and feels secure. There are 2 separate areas and they have water and power connections at each spot. The dump stations are located near the bath house. There are palm trees all around. The waves glow at night in the moonlight and look magical as the reflection makes the water look like it is glowing in the dark. I can't wait until we can come back again. We stayed at beachside spot 6. Lakeside is across the street and also has some nice views.

Had an amazing time at this campground! The beach access is PERFECT. So beautiful. Our camp site was awesome, not many trees but still a great little area. Kids were excited about the "wild cactus" at our site. We didn't explore too much past the beach but we enjoyed our stay. We will be back for sure!

Came to Gamble Rogers Memorial State Park for a vacation near home. I booked site #30 in January 2020. I love this place as it allows dogs, dog beach walking distance, hiking (saw a bear, manatees, snakes, and other wildlife this time around), fishing, boat launch, canoeing/kayaking, and incredible sunrises. The site was nice and had plenty of room for our travel trailer, truck, fire pit, picnic table, and little play area for the kids. It was a great idea to bring the kids' scooters and they could zoom around. The bathroom facilities were clean and constantly being monitored by the staff and volunteers. The campgrounds are very well-maintained and watched for issues so they can be quickly fixed. This is an extremely peaceful campground. I love leaving the windows open so you can fall asleep to the sound of the waves crashing on the beach. Next, time I am booking a site in the river side as it looks amazing over there, too.

In Memory of This State Recreation Area was named in honor of James Gamble Rogers IV who died on this very site at the age of 54. He was a Singer-songwriter, author, artist, actor, screenwriter but most of all he was an unselfish man who show great heroism, he was camping at Flagler Beach when a frightened young girl ran to him, begging him to help her father, who was in trouble in rough surf. Compromised by spinal arthritis that had been worsening since childhood Rogers nevertheless grabbed an air mattress and headed into the ocean in a rescue attempt to save the girl's father unfortunately he was unsuccessful and both men died in the surf. I vote no for changing the name of this beautiful recreational area...

Went here for first time today for a basic crabbing class. I'm a 6th gen Floridian and I've been crabbing since I was 5. I've never been crabbing at Gamble Rogers so I thought this would be a great class. My wife and daughter came with me. It was a fantastic class. Ran by volunteers, it was very informative and packed. They did 30mins of talk and education, then you went across the way to the estuary and you got to do some crabbing. You don't have to bring anything, they use their own equipment. I got one crab but not the blue crab, a big hermit crab, lol. Lots of kids and people of all ages. Very family friendly or for a couple. Reservations are needed and they fill up fast. No cost, just entrance fee. It's $5 for a carload up to 8 people. They do have covered picnic tables with grills by the water, first come first serve. They also rent kayaks and canoes and have a butterfly garden. They have a nice boat ramp but not a lot of space. They also have some nicely shaded trails about 1.5 mile average. They also have a campground but have not explored yet but sites are generous and spacious with picnic table and fire ring with flat grill on top. The park is divided by two sides with a beachside across the street. Great fishing on both sides. This park is definitely a Florida park for crabbing, fishing, boating, hiking and much more. Definitely worth a day trip, especially if your local.

This an awesome place to camp. The Rangers and volunteers are the most friendly in any park we have stayed in!

This is one of the best state parks in FL that we ha e visited. The rangers are amazing, so helpful and friendly. The bathrooms are spotless. We love forward to returning again next year!

Yet another notch in the ole' camping belt. A bit of a drive from home, but definitely worth the trip. We didn't get lucky enough to get a spot across the street, with every spot overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, but the other camping loop is just as awesome. The campground boasts very spacious sites with every site having power and water hookups, as well as a picnic table and fire pit. The bathhouses and overall camping grounds were among some of the cleanest I've ever seen. The grounds crew works very hard to keep this place immaculate. I even saw a guy pulling weeds by hand out of one of the sites. A lot of good restaurants nearby and plenty of beach access. Dogs are also allowed on much of the beach in the area. There are short nature trails, fishing, kayaking and even a butterfly garden! Very cool campground that we will most definitely be visiting again ASAP.

A great honor

A park for a hero The Gamble Rogers Memorial Park is a 145 acre recreation area right on the water. A lovely place that has all kinds of cool things to do. Volleyball, a natural trail, kayak and canoe rentals and even a camp ground. A very popular and busy place. It's also a great place to see birds and lots of nesting aquatic birds use the area to raise a family. Egrets, herons, ibis, storks, ducks, and lots of ospreys. A great place for bird watching. Three types of sea turtles also lay eggs on the beach. There is also a cool nature trail that wanders through the park and has nice views of the water and has signs that label the different Floridian plants and trees. All kinds of cool stuff. A while back Florida started renaming all the parks after people deserving of the honor. I'm not sure what this place was originally called but now it is named after a song writer and musician from the area. The songs that he wrote didn't get him the honor but his heroism did. He was enjoying the park one day in 1991 and he saw a child in trouble out in the huge waves. He unhesitatingly jumped in the water and attempted a rescue. Always a very dangerous and difficult thing to do as every life guard knows. Unfortunately he didn't succeed in his valiant efforts and he and the child both drown. But he did try and gave his life trying to save another. That makes him a true hero. Now this wonderful place of nature will forever have his name and hold his memory.

Site 31, enjoying the ocean breeze.

Great campground! The sites offered are either on the beach side or river side of the campground. We were lucky enough to get a beach site. The spots are pretty tight. Most of our fellow camper friends camped in tents and allowed two tents per site which was took up most of the site. Our 12' camper fit fine, along with a pop up tent and truck. The sites were clean and ready by our 3pm check in which included a fire ring and picnic table. Most of the beach sites lacked and buffer between camp sites for privacy. The ocean view is blocked by foliage from most of the beach side but a few had unobstructed views. There were several boardwalks and lookout areas for beach access/viewing. The bathrooms and showers were clean and never crowded during our Friday-Sunday visit. There is a boat ramp which kayak and canoe rentals are offered at the river, along with some good places to fish. The park allows dogs but there was a short walk to the dog friendly part of the beach. The beach wasn't crowded, even though it was the weekend. Having access to the beach and ocean while camping are giant positives for us, we will certainly return!

This is site 68. The park is sold out so by tonight 3 more RV's will be in the picture.

It is very important to note the pictures on line show a tiny part of the ocean front spaces. The riverside has no riverview and consists of concrete pads and rocks. Nothing green. You might as be at Walmart. They have some trees. I am amazed people believe this is a nice park. Hopefully they will get to some of the area parks such as Anastasia State Park in St Augustine and experience the outdoors.

Great place for the dogs. Plenty of room from the beach to the intercoastal. Paths to follow and a few boardwalks as well.

I did bug spray up as soon as I exited the car- which I highly recommend if the bloodsuckers like you. There is a screened in pavilion you can normally rent for events- closed right now due to Covid. There is a little dock a family was fishing from and a small watercraft launch, I can only imagine kayaking from here would be beautiful. Plenty of trails including a 7 miler to the next state park. We hiked back to the site of slave cabins- all that was left was the stone base of what was a hearth and fireplace. This site is a previous plantation. My heart aches when I see that they had slaves to run their sugar mill and also grew and processed indigo- which was highly poisonous to those working directly with extracting the dye from the plant. A death sentence for those assigned that job. I know this from a previous tour at another plantation. I am happy that that part of our history is in the past and I hope we continue to learn from those times and never repeat the mistakes of the past. The ruins are further down the road, the hiking trail back was closed (probably due to high water levels). This area was swarming with mosquitos- I reapplied bug spray for good measure- just dip me in deet. This however was my favorite part~ my inner-artist took hold and I ran rampart taking pictures. We were lucky that we toured the ruins by ourselves. No one else was out there while we explored. I easily spent 45 minutes just snapping pictures. Probably more than you would need. The average person would probably only spend 15-20 minutes walking around and reading the information boards. There is a building off to the side that has tools and things recovered from the area. I love that you can walk through the ruins on a sidewalk that is chained off from you entering into any of the structures- preserving what remains, but allowing you a special glimpse from "inside" the ruins. I recently visited another park that had the large ruins completely closed off- only external views. So this was a treat. You could spend as little as 45 minutes going through this park or spend the day hiking and picnicking. Go visit and enjoy the history and views.
