I've been to this Gamekastle a few times now. The shop is larger than others I've been to. The shop has a good selection of board games and card games. The staff are friendly and helpful. I really liked this store for its selection and friendly staff. As a newer Magic player, I've made a point of stopping by after work, buying from their MTG selection, and supporting Game Kastle even when other options are closer to me. Their singles setup in particular made the Redwood City location a store I was happy to go out of my way to visit. Unfortunately, after my experience today, I won't be back. I had preordered a $480 Collector Booster Box over the phone. When I placed the order, I specifically confirmed that the $480 price included tax. When the store later called me back to take my credit card information, I confirmed the same thing again before authorizing the charge. My card was then charged $480. After driving to Redwood City to pick it up today, I was told I owed an additional $48.36 in sales tax. To be clear, my issue was never that sales tax shouldn't be charged. My issue was that I had twice been told that $480 was my tax-inclusive total before the store charged my card. I initially paid the additional amount, reconsidered once I got to my car, and returned the unopened box while I waited more than 30 minutes for the manager, Cole, to arrive so we could resolve it. The conversation that followed was extremely disappointing. Cole initially disputed that I had even placed the order until he eventually located it. Once we established what had happened, I repeatedly explained that I was simply asking the store to honor the total I had been quoted and agreed to pay. I even offered a compromise: charge the additional tax if necessary and give me the $48.36 difference as store credit, which would have guaranteed that money went right back to their business. Instead of approaching the situation as a misunderstanding that needed to be resolved, I was repeatedly told that everyone else had paid the additional tax, and my request was ultimately characterized as an attempt to take advantage of the store. Another manager who had listened to the conversation even interjected to tell me that nobody else had made an issue of paying the additional $48.36. Ultimately, Cole agreed to honor what I had originally been asking for. What made the experience so frustrating was that getting there required a prolonged argument in which I was treated as the problem rather than as a customer trying to resolve a pricing mistake. I make a deliberate effort to support local game stores. They're important third spaces for gaming communities, and I'd much rather spend my money with them than default to Amazon. That's why this experience was particularly disappointing. A pricing mistake would not have caused me to stop shopping at this store. The way it was handled did. read more

I'm currently looking for a few specific MTG commander decks to play with friends / family. The two people I interacted with were really nice and explained how there wasn't much left. Big crowd for mtg on a Saturday. Believe it or not it didn't smell super bad here. Which is the first thing I notice about any game shop. I have been coming to this store for the past several years and felt at this point I should share my thoughts. This store is constantly out of everything. half their store is devoted to cards and board games but they have a very limited stock of both and are often out of current prints Or current sets. Models are their second main focus but again they are constantly out of most things and only really stock large expensive boxes. Don't even get me started on their paints and glue. It's so hit and miss you should call them and ask before you go in. what saves them from a 0 star review is their gaming space and staff. The staff are amazing and super helpful and always have been. Any question, any advice they will happily give you. The gaming space is standard folding tables but there's a lot of them so finding an open one is easy. TLDR; if ur looking for anything to buy go some where else. If your looking for events or space to play, this is the spot. read more

Went to a MTG prerelease here and was impressed by the cleanliness - the tables were nice, the chairs were uniform, and the bathroom even had free tampons! I absolutely had to come to Yelp specifically to rave about a local game store with tampons. In all seriousness, the staff was helpful in getting our party set up and through the waitlist. Their boardgame selection, which I perused while we waited, was well curated. While this chain isn't in my neck of the woods, I'd absolutely go back for other MTG events. Came here for the first time back in October and just remembered I have Yelp so here's my review! Staff is very kind, super helpful and knowledgeable of everything they have in store. You can find dice (of any size and color), TCG, model kits, board games, mini figs/supplies, they genuinely have it all. They also sell single cards and individual dice- so if you're missing a card from your collection, definitely try looking here! I couldn't find the Pokemon TCG series I wanted (they had a few others), but I walked out with a new set of dice for my Humblewood campaign! Definitely will be coming here again! read more

Staff is really friendly and they have tons of selections depending on your hobby - from TCGs (Lorcana, One Piece, Pokemon) to figures and board games. My favorite thing about this location is the community when it comes to trading and tournaments. They also have a discord where you can directly keep in contact with the team and get the latest info regarding releases/events. Weird experience here, got here at 12pm when they open but they were late and about 20min later they opened. Some kids were there way before me waiting for the place to open but they eventually left. Anyways I came in and wasn't really greeted or acknowledged, informed him I would be looking at the magic the gathering precons they have on shelf. But a dude came in after to me and was greeted with a friendly welcome in, I could be over thinking it though not sure. I got the Lord of the Rings Rohan deck (white blue red) fantastic deck for creating creature tokens quickly. This one was a flat $40 at Game Kastle, came back later at night to play some commander against a friend, it was fairly busy at night but chill. Was given a welcome back so that was nice, maybe it was just an off day. read more

Store is clean, Employees are nice too. Only reason for the two star is just the selection for WARHAMMER 40K unless you play ONLY Chaos, you'll be disappointed. They only had like Imperial guard/Astra Militarium, Leagues of Votann and Imperial Agents. So the characters no one plays. But for Chaos? Oh man For the Fans of World Eaters, Thousand Sons, Death guard and even Emperors Children? You guys will LOVE this store. As for my fellow Astartes players...there were literally only like 3 sets. I came by later that day, the staff completely ignored me and looked busy until I caught their attention and they told me they can't sell prerelease kits and there was a misunderstanding. Game Kastle has a ton of great games, cards (Magic & Pokemon), and art supplies for miniatures. The staff were super friendly and really helpful with game recommendations. Half of Game Kastle is dedicated to gaming, so there are a bunch of tables and chairs setup as well as a bunch of board games you can borrow and play. If there is a piece that's missing or broken from the games they have, just tell a staff member so they can replace or fix it. We went during the day on a Friday so it was all open, but it's free to play as long as there's room. They also have a blue cone you can put on your table if you need/want more players to join, the blue cone signals that more are welcome. We played Splendor, which was really fun. It's really cool that there's a space for people to hang out without being forced to buy something, third places like this are really important. The store is in a shopping center so parking isn't a problem and there's a coffee spot and a few food places (I personally recommend the spam musubi from L&L bbq) so if you get hungry there's options nearby. read more

I'm glad that there's a big board game store in Redwood City now. It is way overdue! They have a ton of tabletop games here as well as some trading cards and miniature figures. There is also a huge area with tables set up. I am guessing that area is for tournaments at some point. The plaza it's in has plenty of parking and is easy access from the 101. read more

I had a horrible experience when I went for MTG pauper night. The staff members were not helpful in hosting the event. I had to tell them that it was 15 past 6:30 that they finally started the event. I think part of it has to do with the companion app stores use in lieu of match slips like the old days. I told them that we were done playing and I asked them what's next. They told me to go back to the tables where me and 3 other people were playing. Another guy spoke to them and then they finally started giving away the prizes/promo packs. It was truly a frustrating experience after being away from magic for so long. I have been trying to get a hold of the store manager/owner as I really want my LGS to succeed. There's probably one staff member who's pretty helpful and really understands the hobby/game the best, Alex. The other two tended to brush me off. Please have some professionalism and not turn away potential patrons. The only plus is that the store is close to me and that there are people who play magic. Pleasantly surprised. Interested in MTG and stopped by with a friend, who lives in the area, just to check out the store and see the selection. Friendly and helpful staff. Happy with the commander precons and packs purchased. Reasonable if not really good prices. Left enough of a good impression that stopped by again the following weekend and found some other great items added to the selection and got a few more things. Great location with lots of parking! The inside space is pretty big. They have a great selection of board games and table top games/accessories. This is a cool spot for MTG players to come and play, look through singles. At the back left there was a few tables set up with people playing various card games, Pokemon and MTG.
