I really like Gamers Haven in this location. I enjoyed visiting them in their old location, but this one is more spacious and the floor space with the shelving is used extremely well. Also, this is the first time in quite a while I've had a game store employee walk the aisles and check on customers. I haven't played in their game space in the new location, but it looks spacious. I visited Gamer's Haven because I enjoy supporting my local game store to purchase a new TTRPG. However, during my visit, I overheard an employee speaking with a customer and making disparaging remarks about how "sad and pathetic" it is for a 32-year-old man to watch and play Pokémon (I am a 37-year-old man). While I understand there are ongoing issues with adults buying up Pokémon cards, I don't believe it's appropriate to insult people for enjoying a hobby--especially one that's been beloved by fans of all ages for decades. I happened to be wearing a Pokémon hoodie during my visit, and as someone who grew up with the franchise and now shares it with my children, I felt pretty uncomfortable and unwelcome hearing those comments. Please consider training your staff to be more mindful and respectful in their conversations, especially when those conversations can be overheard by customers. Everyone deserves to feel safe and accepted in a community space built around shared interests. read more

My wife and stopped by to see a swim spa next door where I saw this place and was excited to go and check it out after. Go in and the first thing the guy says "Just to let you know we close in 3 minutes". First thing I thought was he could of just say we close soon since this is not a food service and no one would be there for 30-minutes to an hour and by time you go shit in the back and get everything ready I would be gone. However, I genuinely said "Great, we will take a quick look and leave". We literally walked in looked quick (less than a min) and was about to walk out where I said with Enthusiasm "Thanks guys! We will come back and bring our kids". His response after waiting close to 25 seconds (yes I count), even though they close in ~1 min 50 seconds by now was "Sure" sarcastically. Just the tone was enough for me to not want to step back in there ever again. Note to the owners from one business man to another, don't put gamers in front at the customer service. Again, this may not matter for the regular customers that like playing games there but, to procuring new customers that maybe spending that additional monthly income. read more

I've stopped by here twice to check it out and I've been impressed both times. First off, they have a great selection of games - whether we're talking staples like D&D, Warhammer, etc. or more obscure titles. Also, lots of accessories. I mean.. lots and lots. Another cool thing is they have a back room where people can play games or do other stuff (I saw a guy in there painting miniatures at a table with an entire paint setup). Both times I've been there, I was greeted as I walked in. Yesterday, one of the guys there asked if he could help me. My first response is always, "No. I'm just looking." That's a reflex most of us do, which is pretty stupid if one is looking for something in particular, which I was. I told him what I was after and he had some great recommendations. He also recommended stuff that wasn't in stock at the moment, which made me feel like he was recommending really good stuff instead of just trying to get a sale. It's basically Nerd Heaven. God, I love this place. My friends and family have been into strategy games for years, so I often drop by to browse their huge collection of games, chat up the always-friendly crew, and drop into the back room to see what's being played on their many tables. This year my son and I decided to try our hand at miniature wargaming; I can tell you that there's no way I would have stuck with it without their staffer, Mike, who gave us constant advice and encouragement on the right stuff to buy and how to approach the process of painting our figurines. They have dedicated painting tables in the back room, and on more than one day, Mike would pop back there to enthusiastically coach us on the finer points. I went to Gaver's Haven for a Magic The Gathering prerelease. The prize pool was terrible, the last 22 places all got the same prize, and the top 8 places got one extra pack for their prize. Everyone only played 2 rounds, except for myself. I got a bye for the second round. So I got my prerelease box, 2 extra packs, and played only one round for a grand total of $37.56 or some BS. Also on the website, it said it was $30, but after signing up we all found out that it was $36.99 before the $2 discount and sales tax were all totaled out. So by this time, it was too late to leave this prerelease to go to a different one. Everyone got stuck overpaying and underplaying. Absolutely trash store for prerelease. I want my damn money back. read more

I have had very pleasant experiences every time I come here. I live in Denver but make a point to stop here anytime I am in the Springs. They have a lot of titles to choose from, including some games that they have in stock that other stores don't. I also really like taking a look at their clearance shelf. They have new and sealed games for 50% off. I was able to score a game and an expansion that have been on my wishlist for awhile. This is definitely nerd heaven! What's nice is the employees really know their games so any questions they can answer! They are a little bit more pricer and I'm sure u can find the games cheaper on amazon but of course it's a shop so prices are expected to be a bit more. When I go to a game store there are three things I look for when I enter, being greeted, seeing the product, and having the staff know the product. Gamer's Haven is the only gaming store in the Springs that I've been to that has actually welcomed me into it. The staff has always been helpful and will actually engage you to help find what it is you are looking for. The back gaming room is awesome! The amount of product they carry is substantial and I am always looking for that next purchase. They have a great amount of Table top RPGs, and miniatures gaming, but, what makes it that much more is the amount of table top board games they carry. Fantastic. They even have a new used book section which is great if you are looking for some older Whit Wolf books, or whatever. I am partial to another game store for board games, but I use this one for RPG gaming supplies. They have it all! They have a good selection of minis and supplies to decorate your minis. They have a great selection of RPG book, including a section for used books. Their dice selection is unmatched. They have a great selection of table top and board games as well. The staff is great and knowledgeable. They are friendly and they talk to you about whatever you are interested in. The best game store I have seen! This place has a great selection of all varieties of tabletop games: Board, card, miniature, and roleplaying games are all in stock with a variety you just don't see elsewhere! They have a huge back room that they showcase different games and types of games every night of the week and almost always have something cool going on on the weekends! They have a nice selection of board games in the back that you can try out before you decide to buy, and the staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. Parking can be somethign of an issue on some nights, and the store really draws a crowd of people most evenings, so that can be tough sometimes, but I have made a lot of friends out of that crowd, too. This is an excellent gaming store with a wide selection of games, books, minis, and gear. Whether you are into sci-fi, fantasy, superhero, or (like me) military history wargaming, you won't be disappointed. I have been driving all the way south from north of Denver to this place at least once every two months, because the Denver metro area no longer has any good gaming stores that carry the rare titles-- like Flames of War, Warlord Games, etc. With the close of Valhalla and Attactix stores in the metro area 10 years ago, this is now the only place to be. Thank goodness they are not one of those exclusive Games Workshop or "we only carry Warhammer and Star Wars" shops that are in abundance nowadays. Helpful staff, and a great twice-a-year auction to supplement your collections and perhaps sell some of that stuff you no longer are "into." (And make sure you go for the store credit with your earnings!). I'll keep making this pilgrimage -- I just wish these folks would open a store in the Denver area! read more

I'm no stranger to D&D, so when I moved into Colorado Springs, one of the first things I wanted to do was get into D&D encounters. I used to DM encounters, so I was very familiar with how it is conducted. Generally, it's a great way to get people into D&D, as each adventure over each week takes the party through new perils, the players learn how to play the rules, and even how to roleplay their character if a regular group continues to appear. I saw that Gamer's Haven hosted encounters, so I decided to show up and see if I could meet some new friends. Two red flags immediately popped up. One, there were very few people playing D&D. That usually signifies that either the store is new, the event is new to that store, or the DMs are horrible. It doesn't take a good DM to keep people interested at encounters, but these people must've been god-awful for there to be only 5 people across three tables. Second, whenever I DMed, I always greeted new players, and invited them to have a seat. If someone said they weren't their for D&D encounters, I would say a seats open if they want it. Friendly, open, and welcoming, that's what D&D encounters should be about. I met many people and played many campaigns with folks who I simply invited to sit down when they were at the store for something else. None of that happened. No hellos, no questions if I was there to play D&D. Nothing. In fact, these people would have been fine if I would have walked right out the door, happy even. Luckily, only a few seconds will pass in the story before I do just that. I have to ask: "Hey, are you guys here to do D&D encounters?" The response I get is a group of fumbled words that show how clear it is that these people just want me to leave. They start with No, and point to two tables, maybe three feet away, saying that those are for D&D encounters. I walk over to these tables, literally taking a step and a half. "Alright, should I make a character?" I say. One of them starts talking to me, he's an older gentleman, taller with white hair, "Well, we're doing level five characters." Note how now they are doing D&D encounters. They want me to leave, I got that before I even opened my mouth. I've DMed a lot of D&D. I have sixteen years under my belt, since I was 9 years old. I DMed D&D encounters for 2 years. It's fair to say, that I know D&D. "Cool man, I'll make a level five character" I say, and reach for my pack. I am then told that I can't. I tell them that I shall show them, that I most certainly can. For those of you who may be interested in D&D, it's not a hard process. You have a book, you follow the steps, level five just requires you to look at a table for your stats a little further down than if you were at level 1. I don't think it's much harder than making a level one character. Now lets backup, I DMed D&D encounters for two years. We had pre-generated characters that we could give to people who were new, and they would play. It didn't matter if the party was 1, 2, 3, 5, or 8 in some of our campaigns, new players could pick up and be on equal footing with the party. These dipshits obviously had no such thing. I typically don't mind a DM who doesn't prepare as much as me, or doesn't invest as much into a game as I do when I DM. That's how other people do it. This however, is blatantly blocking people from playing this game. So fuck these guys. So I said that I would indeed make a level five character, but it's obvious at this point that these people are just looking for an excuse, no matter how shitty, to not let people play with them. So I tell them that I'm leaving, and I leave. Simple as that. I created a yelp account just to review this one store for the horrible and downright disgusting treatment of customers and gamers. I don't know who the man was that I was speaking to, but he appeared to be in his 50s, he was caucasian with white hair, and tall if I remember right. (I was talking to him for literally a few seconds) If you see this guy give him the finger and tell him to learn how to conduct D&D encounters. Honestly, to anyone who's looking to do D&D here, especially encounters, look elsewhere. I have never been as infuriated or disgusted by a group of people who play D&D. This however is a group that willingly shuts people out from a game of D&D encounters, which is designed to allow new people to arrive and play, meet friends and learn the great game of D&D. I will never come to this store again, and I will warn every friend I have and make down here to look elsewhere. read more
