The manager is very strange and is on the phone with her boyfriend the whole time. She makes it very difficult to approach her with common questions because she is speaking with her boyfriend on speakerphone while there are 3+ customers in the store. other than that, this gamestop is pretty good. the employees are very helpful and attentive outside from the manager read more

This gamestop is a typical gamestop. They charge a lot for games and give you very little on trade in. The only reason they are getting 2 stars is because the staff is friendly and willing to help and never negative when you go into the store. The store itself is very disappointing. Mostly due to a recent "transaction." I had put a hold on multiple items around $60 in value and they were supposed to contact me when they were in for pickup. I did not receive an email or a phone call that they were available and ready for pickup. Then I did receive a phone call from them, conveniently telling me it was past the 48 hour time allotted for me to pick up my purchase. "But you can still come in and trade in any games you are looking to get rid of." Um... No Thanks, nor will I shop at your store any more. Very embarrasing, but it seems like par for the course seeing other reviews of this location. Thank you to the staff who has been friendly to myself and other customers, especially younger ones. read more

Every Gamestop is pretty much the same as the next one with the exception of the used game selection. Since this one sits right on the edge of campus is has a HUGE selection of used games that college kids hock for a few dollars here and there. Also a big plus, the staff here is probably the most friendly staff in Richmond and should be awarded so. Not only are the helpful and know what they are talking about, they are really (almost scarily so) enthusiastic about their jobs. Then again if I got paid to be around video games all day I might be pumped up too. read more

I visited this store on 11/23/18 to return a Nintendo Switch that I purchased on the prior Sunday from this store. I presented the clerk with my original receipt of purchase and began my return. At this point the clerk was unclear on how to proceed and the Store Manager decided to interject. The manager was EXTREMELY condescending to myself as well as his staff, as he tried to explain to me that they do not normally offer returns on used consoles (with or without receipt), but of course they'll make an exception this ONE time. The manager then proceeds to question why I am returning the device, I explain that I received a new Nintendo Switch as a Gift that included the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe game. The manager then makes comments that insinuate that I am lying about the reason for my return, expressing disbelief that I actually was gifted a new Switch bundle so soon after I purchased one. There are a few things that really left me with a bad taste in regard to this store/company. Firstly, the return policy strictly states "Pre-owned merchandise = full refund within 7 days of purchase or identical exchange within 30". Secondly, why are you harassing customers, in addition to lying, about the return policy/legitimately returnable items?! This was the second recent experience that has been absolute trash at this store. Just a few months prior I purchased a game that was sold as new and was to feature downloadable add on contact as part of my purchase, only to discover that the content had already been redeemed. I thought something was wrong as the game was not sealed on purchase. Yet when I asked the clerk he told me it was the last copy they had and used the box as a wall display, hence the unsealed packaging. TL;DR ***DO NOT SHOP HERE! I purchased an item that was missing the contents and the manager took it back as a return which was awesome because I had no proof that it was missing when purchased. Really appreciated his trust and good business practices. Everyone is super friendly at the store too. Good place. read more

For any of the people still shopping at Gamestop, please reconsider. I went to one on Broad St (by VCU) today and the manager tried to trick me into buying a membership for more than she said it was. She misled me by saying the $15 membership charge showing on the checkout charges was wrong and that it was "actually $4 so don't worry about it." After the total price still included the $15, I asked her about it and she ran the items all through the computer again with the same result. I pointed it out, and she pursed her lips, reluctantly removed the membership, and didn't say another word to me (she had been very friendly and enthusiastic until that point). How unprofessional. Even with a migraine I didn't fall for this bullshit. I took my patronage elsewhere, which was $600 since I got PS4 money for my birthday. PS - The employees I've run into were great. The issues I've had were with the manager I've had everytime, as well as the general way GameStop is run (I was the only person shopping once, and the manager had an employee bug me ever FIVE minutes. She didn't want to, and was really nice about it. But still enough that I haven't gone back there) read more

My boyfriend and I went to this branch last Saturday 11/7. He was trading in two of his XBOX gaming systems for the new XBOX one. We arrived around 11:30AM. The store wasn't really busy, but there were at least 5 employees on the floor--most of them behind the counter doing nothing. One gentleman in particular was doing transactions only--HE was the only good thing about this experience. I regret not knowing his name, but he was very kind, and looked like he was doing all he could to make the day go by as quickly and efficiently as possible. When we got to the register, my boyfriend put his trade-in on the counter. We were quickly told by a red-haired employee named Paige that they were no longer doing trade-ins and that the last XBOX one had been sold. Though we both found this to be annoying -- it happens, and we understood that. She then dismissed us and went back to talking to other employees behind the counter. I flagged her down and asked if we could find out what other stores in the area still had it. She said nothing but printed a large receipt out for us with locations and the status of whether or not the item was in stock. I looked at her and said, "Will you mind calling these places to check and see if maybe we could put a hold on it? I'd hate to drive all the way out there for nothing." Meanwhile, there is only one other customer in the store at this point...and all the employees are just mulling around; some were working, and others looked like they had no idea what to do with their time. Paige then sighed, grabbed the receipt out of my hands, and ran to the back. After about a minute or two she came back out and literally just held her cell phone in my boyfriend's face--didn't even say why she was doing this...she just held it in his face. I asked what she was doing. "He wants to talk to you" was all she said. My boyfriend reluctantly took the cellphone and proceeded to have a 5 minute conversation with another store about the item. Paige then turned and said, "John is making my life such hell right now." During this time, I asked Paige why she couldn't take the call since she was just standing there DOING NOTHING. She said, "I have no idea what's going on..." and went back to talking with another co-worker. I replied with, "Yes, that's very clear." At the end of the day, we got the console and were SO 100% satisfied with the great customer service of the other branch -- 11633 Midlothian Tpke, Midlothian, VA 23113. They were truly very kind, patient, helpful -- and I really feel terrible for them that they had to speak with such an awful employee for that brief period, and for making it awkward for everyone else involved in the situation. read more

I laugh reading the yelp review about the redhead employee, Paige, who works at this store that another yelp reviewer wrote. I have had many experiences and exchanges with Paige at the store and she has been the most helpful employee out of all of the employees there. Every time I walk in, she talks to me and greets me like we have known each other for a long time and it is very comforting. Whenever I have a question, she will answer with her full experienced honestly and help guide me into deciding what I should purchase that is the best for my family. Paige is always so personable with me and my family and with all of my friends that I have brought with me before. She really makes GameStop feel like your home store for video games. I've never written a review on this GameStop because I thought everyone knew how friendly the staff was. But, after reading the other review on Paige, I had to say something and that the other person must have miscommunicated with her since Paige has always been the best help for my family and friends. P.S. I followed her from this store to Willow Lawn when she transferred. That's how great she is. But now she is back at this store since Willow Lawn's GameStop closed down. read more

The store is similar to most other gamestops. It has more used games than most since its on the edge of a college campus. However, the past two times I've been here have been ruined by the awful lady manager who works there. So much so that I dont even want to come back to this location. I've even complained to the company itself about how awful she was. I've seen this manager blame customers for having to be open or for some other issue that was strictly her problem and had nothing to do with customers. Shes always trying to rush people out the store and is never helpful or friendly. The other staff members are pretty helpful and friendly but theres definitely a problem when the manager is ruining the store. The prices dont even compare to what you can find online and as far as trading in games they are going to completely rip you off compared to what you could make on amazon. Generally they offer half the price you could make for your trade ins. Honestly nothing good to really recommend other than being able to pick up games the same day instead of waiting for online orders. read more
