Only Rebarts can come out and fix them after installation - it is a 150.00 "site visit fee" every time they need to come look at them if a motor breaks, etc. In addition to the fee to actually fix the shade. 2. Make sure they are measured exact, examine every shade before it goes in. Look for frayed sides, weird angles, and verify every shade goes up and down with no issues multiple times before you let anyone leave. One of the motors was not working properly when it arrived, instead of allowing them to install and wait for a new one I should have rejected the order and waited for it to be fixed. It took a LOT of back and forth and time to get things fixed properly - it was not a great experience. 3. The motors can be unreliable - YouTube videos to help with rebalancing etc. aren't really helpful, so you end up having to pay the $150.00 fee + any fix costs once a year or so to get someone out to fix them. - Budget for this. ** (I'm actually waiting to schedule someone to come out now because one of our major room shades just stopped working)** 4. Everyone is really nice, they look nice, and I like the auto timer feature! 5. if you have kids, make sure the area around the blinds is clear before opening and closing! If we change things up in a few years, I don't think I will go with the same type, but they are nice for now.

However, I wish that they provided other options that Hunter Douglass offers. In my case, motorized shades where the motor will be baked in the sun for one room, increasing shade width to beyond the typical window dimensions for another room, and maybe eliminating top down bottoms up possibility for a third room did not make sense to me. Thus my search continues. I do think that if you have a large home with large windows with more typical bottoms up only needs that this may be the place for you!

Steven is super professional and friendly. I did some research beforehand and sort of know what I was looking for. Steven had an excellent catalogue for me to browse. I was able to find what I was looking for and interestingly was able to match the color (even a bit on the texture) between two types of blinds that I signed up with. As with all other business, the supply chain has been impacted by COVID. But blinds arrived within reasonable timeframe as originally discussed (i.e. within a week). Steven reached out when window treatments arrived and came in installed them without a glitch. One of the blinds I used often (mostly around breakfast time) and was in need of repair, Steven was very responsible and came in dealt with the issue very quickly. And when one of the second set of repaired shaded came back, the cheap plastic handle was broken off. The workmanship is not there and the repairs are costly and time consuming. When we stepped into midnight at the start of 2026, I heard neighbors setting off fireworks, and I never imagined that opening the window to watch fireworks could be such a simple, one-second joy. Having plantation shutters at home is truly wonderful. If I could give ShutterMark of San Mateo 100 stars , I absolutely would. Before deciding on window treatments, I did extensive research. I learned that plantation shutters are easy to clean, help reduce noise, keep the house warmer in winter and cooler in summer, and even increase property value . That said, shutters are definitely a premium investment, so choosing the right company really matters. I was incredibly lucky to find Eli on Yelp. He was the very first person who came to my home to measure and provide a quote. Normally, I always compare multiple vendors--but this time, I decided to go with him immediately. WhyBecause Eli is not only the owner, but also the salesperson and the person who personally came to install the shutters once the materials arrived. That level of accountability is rare. By contrast, my experience last year with Lowe's was absolutely terrible. It really proved that "big companies are always better" is a myth. They often make the process far more complicated, their so-called lifetime warranties are mostly marketing gimmicks, and the prices are usually higher as well. Originally, I planned to install shutters on only three street-facing windows. But after seeing the quality and the pricing, I changed my mind and decided to do my entire home.
