Seafood Creamy Pasta
Sara C.

The food was amazing and Martina provided awesome service. We really appreciated her recommendations for the dinner options. Initially thinking this could be tourist trappy with the location but the food really delivered! The Swedish meatball was with Elk meat but not gamey at all. Almost a richer beef taste. The lingonberry were tasty too, nothing like IKEA. The past is creamy and Italians need to look the other way as they added cream and cheesy to a seafood pasta dish but it was divine! Thanks Martina and Gamla Stan Hof!!!

Moose stew with mashed potatoes

Overall, this is not a bad place to get drinks and order appetizers. However, the entrees weren't really worth the price. The seafood pasta didn't have much seafood and didn't taste fresh. The moose stew had an overly gamy taste and the broth was very watery. It didn't have any interesting texture or flavor. Service also took a while too. It took At least half an hour or so to get our food.

The service was amazing!!! They were ready to host and serve us. Food, not so much. If you're looking for a good risotto and pasta, this is not the place.

Excellent location, a very quaint and romantic corner of Old Town Stockholm. very good service and 1st rate quality cooking. Local and other draft beers. enjoyed my seafood plate very much. My wife had the beef meatballs and those were tasty too. The mashed potatoes are a work of art!

Food is good, service is great, a bit small but located in Gamla Stan. Cozy and laidback ambiance!

Review Highlights - Gamla Stan Hof

Martina and Andreas accommodated my ask for a "fun non-alcoholic drink" and made a delicious virgin mojito.

The pieces were small for what I was paying, but I couldn't complain and fish prices change depending on the country. What really upset me was when I simply ordered water with my drink (which is free everywhere else in restaurants) they charged me 315 SEK for a 300ml bottle of Kirkland water! That was crazy, I could've just brought my own bottle from the Coop! The service was subpar-- brash, loud waiter who tried to be a stereotypical American and act like a big man. Overall just came off as invasive and annoying. The ambiance also tried to mimic an American bar, but fell short and was left with a cramped mess of a restaurant. Definitely a waste of money! Next door is a Taco Bar which I highly recommend! Great quesadillas!

There's a grill for burgers and sandwiches. There's a fryer for... fries. And a selection of alcoholic beverages. Both of us were looking to try some fish in Stockholm and The Flying Elk's fish and chips did not disappoint! The cod is very well battered and fried perfectly, the fries are great as well, and it all comes with a great curry mayonnaise for dipping. You also get some house-made pickled vegetables that add a great acidity element to the meal! We both enjoyed a couple beers and walked away super satisfied. We originally had reservations for the main dining room, but wanted to check out their "back bar" after doing some research, and I would highly recommend it! The back bar is a little less formal, dimly lit, and gives off a good vibe for relaxing, enjoying a beer, and eating some tasty food. While The Flying Elk is tad pricey I think it's a worth a stop if you're visiting Stockholm!

Like Noma in Copenhagen, Frantzièn is booked for months at a time. Next day, I found his gastropub, the Flying Elk. Here you can sample the cuisine of Stockholm's favorite chef. The space is warm, open windows in summer; it's next to the water-- an optimal space to enjoy the breeze while getting a bite to eat, sample brews, an Aquavit and maybe another dish. And I did just that. For starters I had the Pan fried scallops, truffled scrambled eggs, smoked brown butter, pomme paille, covered with bonito style shaved truffles. Get this. I could have had 3 of these dishes easily. I think this is perfection of sea and earth with layer upon layer of earth manna: scrambled eggs with truffles, brown butter, the thinnest crisp potatoes and to add insult to the experience shaved tuffles on top. The dish wants you think it's Japanese, it's not...but so beautifully earthy, beautifully tasty and beautifully satisfying. My next dish the Veal Schnitzel Björn Frantzén: veal with triple cooked fries, roasted anchovy butter, red wine jus and sorrel salad was a symphony of taste contrasts: the panko-crisp texture of the veal with red wine jus (grapey delicious sauce albeit slightly overcooked cutlet), roasted anchovy butter with triple cooked fries (crisp into unctuous browned butter with a hint of anchovy) and the nicely tart (and teasingly pungent) sorrel salad. For dessert: "Eton Mess" Vanilla ice cream w/ raspberries & pink pepper meringue, strawberry & hibiscus mousse scented with roses . This was my fave dessert this trip. It's not just vanilla ice cream, it's amazingly well made silky yet subtle vanilla ice cream, that framed the summer raspberries; you scoop the strawberry/hibiscus mousse with a slightly pungent pepper meringue, the complex crumbles on your palate and you swear you've never had anything like this. The flower petals and dried raspberries on top of this "mess" sealed this dish for me as one my favorite desserts ever. A sauterne and a coffee later, the day seemed perfect. I loved this dish so that on one of my other visits to Gamla Stan, I ordered it to go, to seal the flavors in my memory as we strolled through the cobbled streets of this magnificent city, giddy. Loved it. Coming back. Visits: 2 Tip: Come hungry.
