Food is very good and the mixed drink was also very good. The service was the way you expect to get.

I was in town yesterday for a meeting and stopped in for lunch. I sat at the bar, which is well stocked. The beer taps and soft drinks were down yesterday due to mechanical issues. I ordered the Shrimp & Grits, which was a huge portion for lunch. It was very good. I didn't check out the main dining area, but the bar area has plenty of TV's. read more

6/10/26 We had 18 Residents of Swan Pointe's HOA go to Gander: An American Grill. It's a large restaurant and tonight it was full. Our group sat in the front window and it gave us enough room to eat comfortably and talk to our friends. Our server was Cloe S and she jumped right in and started taking our drink orders. We met the General Manager, Scott Weber. He was very friendly and stopped by very often to check on us. Cloe took our orders and really did a wonderful job at it. My husband and I chose the Hot Browns, in fact quite a few of us ordered the Hot Browns. Chicken Livers were very popular and so were the Hamburgers and Fish and Chips. Several other servers and the GM pitched in and helped Cloe deliver the food to our tables. It really was about as smooth as I've ever seen with a crowd of 18 people. Everyone really seemed to be enjoying their meals. In fact it's the quietest we all ever get! LOL! Cloe did great passing out the checks and getting the payments back. In all the dinners we've had, I know this was the smoothest. Cloe was excellent!! The food was delicious. The way that the servers and runners helped out was just wonderful! Once again, I found myself disappointed. This location is near the nursing home where my wife works. There was a new menu item: pork belly tacos, which my wife said she enjoyed. I ordered the Gander Burger and asked for it to be cooked rare, but it arrived well done. It seemed to be made up of 75% soy meal, which made it so dry I couldn't even eat it. However, that wasn't the worst part. We decided to sit at the bar since it was crowded, but two children were running around--presumably employees' kids--bumping into our table. They really need to keep children out of the bar area. This made the entire evening a disaster. read more

We had not been here in over a year and decided to pull in on a whim. I had a sirloin steak with asparagus and a baked sweet potato. It was good. Not great, but very good. My wife felt the same about the shrimp and grits. We had good service and the same upscale casual feel was there. We had lunch here for the first time recently, and while it was good, there just wasn't much that stood out. On the weekends they offer brunch, which I had thought about, but chose lunch instead. WOW! My family and I went here for a late Mother's Day dinner and it blew all of our expectations out of the water. We started with pretzels and queso as an appetizer - very good, very standard. We also grabbed drinks, the Rasptini, the blueberry drop, and the 15th state. They were all wonderful. For food, we tried the filet medallions, the salmon, and the shrimp tacos. Again, everything was beyond phenomenal. For sides we tried mashed potatoes, green beans, the sweet potato, and the mac and cheese. All were pretty good. Take a Gander over here as this place has figured out the consistency of batter needed to compliment perfectly juicy chicken and still remain crispy and light in texture. We love Gander. We go pretty much weekly. We enjoy the bar with its great locals atmosphere and top notch bartenders. So many good items on the menu. Salads are fresh with great dressings. My favorite is the grilled chicken club. The cilantro sauce on that is special. Consistently well prepared food. My only request is for thinner fries. There were 5 of us including 3 teenagers last week. No one ordered fries because they don't care for the sidewinder style. So management, if you're listening, please consider adding traditional fries like you have at the Goose. read more

We only have had it delivered, so I can't comment on service or atmosphere, but the food is killer! My husband loves their friend chicken, and I absolutely love their meatloaf. The steak tacos were very generous portions so I'm glad I got two, they really don't skimp on the meat so two would probably suffice most people. Great flavor too and not dry at all. The pretzels and cheese though were my favorite. The pretzels were nice and crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. Again they had a generous serving of the queso which is much appreciated for a take out order. All of it was delicious and satisfying. Online ordering process was also super easy. read more

We made the mistake of stumbling in here on half price bottle of wine night. My guess is they have this promotion on the day before they have their food service truck arrive so they can get as much old food out of the walk-in refrigerator as possible. Unfortunately for the diners you will have salads with a lot of brown on the lettuce and I received a plate full of fried chicken livers with blood on the plate. 81 bucks for the privilege of probably spending the night in my bathroom with a pillow and a blanket. read more

Went to Ganders Friday May 8th for dinner with my wife. I have liked ganders in the past and have ordered a chicken sandwich which has been fantastic in the past. I have set at the bar and never had a problem getting a chicken sandwich several times there. The bar was full so we were seated in the restaurant area. Once again I ordered the fish sandwich. It came out quickly but it was nothing like the one I was used to getting at the bar and I sent it back. The waitress didn't understand what I was talking about so they sent out another person. I explained to her what the sandwich had looked like in the past. She sent another chicken sandwich and it was the same as the first, wrong. This time a manager came out and proceeded to ask me question about the sandwich and shoved a menu in front of me and said show her the sandwich. I explained to her what the sandwich looked like it was on some sort of roll and she couldn't Understand which sandwich it was. I told her I always got it right at the bar while eating there and ask her to ask the bartenders. She said to me they were too busy! She was not nice at all and not helpful. I ate part of the sandwich they gave me. And my wife and I left. It was a very upsetting event and I don't get upset over anything while dining. If I have a bad experience while dinning I don't cause a scene, I just don't go back. I won't go back to Ganders. I have bragged on it in the past, but because of the unhelpful manager and rude I won't go back. There are just too many other options in Middletown. read more

8/6/22 I came here with my boyfriend for brunch. I was interested for brunch here but more so because of the chicken liver option. Was craving something different. We ordered fried green tomatoes, chicken livers, biscuits and gravy , skillet hash and coffee. Everything was brought out so quickly. Our food came out with our appetizers. Our waitress Katelyne B was phenomenal and legit memorized our order without writing anything down and got it right. We were greeted and seated immediately upon arrival. We both thoroughly enjoyed our food and would most definitely return here again in the future. There's a great selection of bourbon options as well as other drinks here. My dad wanted to try this place, which is generally a bad omen: he thinks Shoney's, Frisch's, and Hometown Buffet are excellent spots. Gander is owned by the same guy who owns Goose Creek Diner, as in: he now owns the Goose and the Gander. Points for his sense of humor. Gander is wayyy out in Middletown, past I-265, across from Lake Forest. For this reason, I expected it to be overpriced; it was not. The decor is simple and boring. On the plus side, they have a handful of TVs arranged around the restaurant so that you can tune in to sporting events while you eat. Our server was attentive and had great recommendations. We grabbed the fried green tomatoes, which were made the way I like them: very crispy, with a generous ratio of batter to tomato. My dad ordered the hot brown and said that it was even better than the one at the eponymous Brown Hotel. I went with the Drunken Kobe Burger and fries, and wow: this is a top three burger in Louisville! Only Game might compare. I tend to put ketchup on everything - especially burgers - and I didn't need any here. The Kobe beef was dripping with a bourbony, maple-esque, port glaze and it was superb. The fries are cut into thick, slightly spiralling shapes. They're crispy without being dry, and large without being too potato-wedgy. Our experience was great and I'll definitely be back in the near future to test out whether this place is a one-hit wonder or whether it's good all-around. came for the fried catfish and i was not disappointed it was so fresh and breaded beautifully. i got mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts as my sides and let me tell you, the brussel sprouts were beautifully seasoned for some green veggies and the mashed potatoes were so fluffy and yummy. and can't forget about dessert! we ordered the strawberry shortcake and wow! big enough for two, the bourbon blueberries and strawberry puree, the cake itself, everything about it was so dreamy and delicious. 10/10 would recommend read more
