I first visited Cask Iron Steakhouse during the pandemic, and at the time the experience felt unique -- steaks arriving sizzling in cast iron skillets gave the meal a little extra character and charm. Returning recently, the food was still very good, but now everything comes out on regular plates, and some of that original magic felt lost. That said, this is still a solid local steakhouse. The staff was attentive, the meal was flavorful, and the prices were fair, especially compared to many of the more famous steakhouses across the Ohio River in Louisville. It may not have the prestige or polish of some of those places, but that's also part of its appeal. This feels more like a neighborhood restaurant serving happy locals than a destination fine dining spot -- and honestly there's something refreshing about that. Ordered take out. NY strip cooked Pittsburgh rare was a solid 8/10. Had never had a Pittsburgh cooked steak so wanted to try it. Overall the sear on the outside was really good and the cut had good flavor, my only complaint is it wasn't rare, and was more like medium. I'm usually a medium rare ordered but wanted to try rare but this just wasn't that. Sides of broccoli and mushrooms were fine but nothing special. Side salad was a bit weak. All in all I would come back. The steak was good and a reasonable price, 12oz for like $32. To start we got seated right way, which was great, the server was on point! We got the "steak" queso not to sure where the steak was though. The dinning room was loud we wish we would have sat at the bar. The Hot Brown was delicious and so was the steak however the sides lacked greatly. My brussel sprouts just tasted like char and vinegar and the potato cake was just greasy fried pancake of potato. Just spending the night in Clarksville and this place was on the recommended list at the hotel. Right on the river with a very comfortable atmosphere, 4 kinds of Scotch on the bar list and the best NY strip I've had in a long time. I Rob Roy I have from the bar was well made and delicious. However the waitress that was serving behind our table accidentally dropped a utensil on my son's back and left a grease stain on his new shirt. She saw it but didn't say anything about it and didn't offer to clean it. That's not good service. And the restaurant needs to do something about the noise level. Cast Iron Steakhouse I really wanted to like this place even more than I did. Overall, the food was good: my salad was crisp and cold, my baked potato had great seasoning with a perfectly crisp skin and soft inside, and my steak was cooked exactly right. It was a little thin, though, and just good rather than great. My husband had the meatloaf and really enjoyed it. The décor could use a little love--it feels a bit dated, and the dining room was a little drafty. On the bright side, the service was excellent, and everyone was genuinely attentive. It is the only steak house in the downtown Jeffersonville area and it's a solid one overall. I've been a couple of times and this wasn't the finest of them. First of all they forgot to serve us the complimentary bread until we asked for it - it was good, a really delicious garlicy butter to spread over it was included. Second, I ordered a steak and didn't receive a steak knife to eat it with until I asked. That all said, we were all served in a timely manner and our server was excellent. Very polite and made sure we had everything we needed. The steak - an 11 ounce ribeye cooked medium. It was cooked perfectly, had a good flavor but it was WAY TOO SALTY. The level of saltiness that leaves you with a sore in your gums. But otherwise, it was really good. Was it 32 dollars good? I don't know. I can get a similar ribeye from Texas Roadhouse for ten dollars less so things like that do really come into your head. The atmosphere is mediocre but it is what it is. It's loud, it's cramped, it's not romantic or moody. I wish it was darker and had a more interesting interior design. There's nothing to look at, no atmosphere or vibe crafted whatsoever. Also, we were placed in a booth that had worn out seats. My dad said it felt like he was sitting on a plank of hard wood, and I agree. I didn't feel too bad about it but He's a lot older and it was uncomfortable for him. The general manager says they're two years old and probably due for replacement. For appetizers we had fried pickles. Delicious. For sides I had creamed spinach (so-so, not bad though), and shoestring fries - the fries were delicious. Worked with us all night to our needs. She pretty much was at our beck and call. There were a lot of people there for a Thursday night. We ordered the caramelized onion appetizer and fried pickle slices; both were very good. The pickle slices thin and crispy not smothered in batter so you got a nice pickle taste. The caramelized onion bacon dip was to die for. No one could get enough! We had 1 chef salad; 1 meatloaf dinner in a cast iron pan with gravy; 1 black and blue steak salad , 1 top sirloin dinner 6 oz and 1 ribeye w/broccoli and cole slaw. Everything was prepared just right. The steaks were done to perfection. One of us had a birthday so he got a bread pudding free and it was enough for all of us to taste. It was delicious. Manager stopped over to check on u. We had a nice chat, a bit more then just how was everything but a little general conversation. Definitely coming back! I had the filet, my son had the NY Strip, my daughter had the sirloin. None needed to be sent back. My oldest son had their fish sandwich, & it looked delicious. The waitress was friendly & had a watchful eye on our drinks, appetizers, etc. We were all very happy at the end of our meals. Now we know where we'll go for good steaks & food with great service. Besides having amazing food, all of which is made fresh and in-house daily including dessert, their welcoming accommodation for people with disabilities is excellent. When making my reservation online, I stated that I needed room for my walker to move around tables and that I needed a chair removed from the table so I could sit there in my walker.
