I went with the Cuban and my wife got the taco bowl. Both were solid. It was the perfect lunch. It left me satisfied and propelled me through the day. My wife's taco bowl was huge. She ended up having enough to bring with for leftovers in the evening. The best thing about this place was the service. All the employees working seemed top notch. The food came out fast and they were all on top of things. Not hovering but also not bugging us too much throughout the meal. The vibe inside was just okay. Not bad, but I kind of wished it was a bit cozier. The bar was a nice addition. It's likely a great place to hang on a weekend. The location is great but I still have a hard time with it. I know it has been years now but I miss ear-x-tacy. Whether it's this business or a future business, I wish someone would line the walls with records and music things in honor. On our way home and a long day of travel, we stopped in because we did not want fast food but we needed a quick bite. The cheese dip and chips were fresh. The burrito love was large. The chicken torta would have been better if it was 1 large pc of chicken but the bread was so soft and the toppings with red sauce nicely paired but the fries that came with the sandwich was hot, lightly coated crunchy outside. The tacos were okay, they weren't ground breaking but they were expensive for what they were. Parking here was a breeze but it was confusing about which door to use to come in. It was a beautiful place and they did a good job, no an EXCELLENT job on exorcising the demon of Panera from the building. I got the tacos with the chorizo and my sister got beef tacos. They were okay, I had hoped the chorizo would bring some spicy heat (I know that chorizo is sausage, not automatically hot) but I didn't even get flavorful chorizo. It was a crushing disappointment. The food gods looked favorably upon me. I happen to have been staying across the street from this place, and it sounded good. I ordered the Chorizo torta and a fish taco. They initially got my order wrong on the torta. No big deal, especially for them who didnt seem to care and dididn't even apologize. Solid spot. Good variety of tacos (nicely priced, so grab a few!). Cochinita pibil is my personal favorite, but if pork isn't on your personal menu, I'd endorse the brisket, the mahi mahi, or even, dare I say it, some of the vegetarian options (I'm more carnivorous, but I appreciate a good vegetarian or vegan dish, and there are a couple of strong choices here). Service is always friendly. The bar could use a little more on the TVs than old sports replays, but it's a nice enough spot to hang out, and the patio is a great choice as well (and occasionally has some live music going). Consistency would be my main complaint/constructive criticism. When they are on, they are on! If I can get some good birria tacos (tender brisket, flavorful broth to dip in), tasty queso with chips to snack on, and a refreshing bourbon margarita to wash it all down, life is good. I used to go once or twice a week because they couldn't miss. But there are times now when even my favorite dishes fall flat, and when the servers (who are so often outstanding) seem not to realize you're there and waiting to order. If I'd reviewed a year or ago when I was going more regularly, five stars (noting that it's not gourmet, but it was five stars for what it is). But when I have to wonder if it's a good night or not, that takes it down a peg (and if it keeps up like that, and it has been while now that I've seen this, I hate to say it, that's probably another star off...hard to praise when you could get an A or a C from one day to the next). read more

I didn't really love this place the first time I tried it. I had carry out a while back for taco week. The tacos were just okay. This time I tried the burrito. The waiter said he liked the steak, so I chose that. So filling! Couldn't even finish. The steak was sometimes a bit too chewy. I did like the sauce drizzled on top though. My friends got a mix of the cauliflower tacos, egg with potato and chorizo, and conchinita Pibil. They enjoyed! We also had chips with guacamole. Always loving freshly made guacamole! We stopped for lunch and it was rather quiet for a Friday. We got seated pretty quickly, but the waitress took a bit to get our drink order. The chips and quest came out quickly though. The chips are thicker, but crunchy. The question had a nice consistency, but was a little plain. The tacos were loaded. I got two - el pastor and a cauliflower one. The cauliflower was my favorite. Pleasantly surprised. I thought the place was smaller. Well inside is huge and then you have outdoor seating that is a good size place as well. It is authentic "tamed" Mexican, meaning the salsas will be mild. Tacos as a bit pricier than other places but alas this is a trendier place at premium location. I that they use bolillo bread for torta. It holds the torta better than the usual telera bread. Bolillo is sturdier. Another thing I is that they have free refill fountain soda. This is not common at the other Mexican places. Place is spotless and service is top notch. Plates come out very quickly. Great set of s playing sports and also a really nice bar. We had a group of seven which they easily accommodate. We were the first in so that was fun. Their margaritas are strong so brace yourself LOL I got their Birria Tacos. It's a big portion so I was able to eat most of one. So there's plenty to take home. I really liked the dipping sauce for them. The brisket was good. Some pieces were a little more fatty than I prefer but overall worth the try! Most of our party got the chicken Flautas & they were all a fan. A friend recommended this place and I cannot stop thinking about the fish taco and I typically don't go for fish tacos haha. I forgot what the top one was but the middle and bottom tacos are the asada and fish tacos. The I love taco bowl is pretty good too but it was a little too much cheese for my preference but the shell stays crispy for a good amount of time and has great flavor. One thing was immediately evident after spending a few minutes inside this new I Love Tacos: They take customer service very seriously and take great pride in what they do. I saw the manager or owner (I think) going to a couple of the tables asking customers what they thought of their meals and thanking them for coming in. The employee who took my order was excited to talk to me about the menu. And my food came out fast with a smile. It felt so great to be able to get out and check out a new business and to feel excitement in the business just put this over the top. But the food. That's kind of important too. ;-) I got the birria tacos. I've been so eager to try birria tacos since first reading about them. I loved the flavor of the brisket, and the melted cheese was my favorite part of these tacos, along with the dipping broth. It reminded me of an au jus sandwich, but ... ya know ... tacos. I also got the elote, which came on the cob, covered in mayo, queso fresco, chile piquin and lime juice. Rich and sweet. My family has eaten at the Bardstown Rd. location many times and it has always been great! Last night however my daughter's said her grilled chicken tasted oily and she was unable to finish it! I always get my favorite Quesadilla Burria. This time the tortilla was very charred, hardly any cheese, and the birria and broth tasted like straight grease! The broth had large orange globules of grease in it and the taste of that overpowered everything except the char from the tortilla! It was late in evening and we picked this up to eat dinner with our daughter. A great place to stop by for some good authentic tacos! This would be our 3rd? time stopping by this place within 3 months. The food is just as amazing as the other times. This time we ordered the batter fish tacos (~$4), berrian tacos (~$9), and guacamole dip (~$5). The fish tacos are amazing and definitely my favorite that everyone should get. They have the option between grilled/fried fish and flour/corn tortilla. The flavor is great and portion was just right which, overall, a great item for the price. The place was a bit busy when we arrived (around 19:00), and we had to wait about 15-20 minutes even when we placed our order online. If you plan on sitting in, I would recommend to go early during the day or sometime in between the lunch and dinner rush. We have ordered for pick at this location numerous times and have always received great food! Last night this is not the case. My husband's food he enjoyed, but my daughter and I were not happy. My daughter ordered the grilled chicken torta and there was next to no lettuce and she said for some reason the grilled chicken tasted oily! She could not finish her meal. I always get the quesadilla burria and it has always been delicious except last night! There was quite a bit of char on both sides of the tortilla and hardly any cheese inside. The worst was the flavor of the birria and broth that comes in a cup. I noticed as I started pouring some of the broth on top of quesadilla that it looked different. It looked very orange this time and thought it was just seasoning but there was so much globules of grease floating inside and I poured out some and it was entirely made up of this greasy, unappealing, oily mess! I ate some of it and the only flavor that came through was like overcooked greasy oil and charred tortilla! None of the delicious flavor I have enjoyed any other time and it has always been at the Bardstown Road location. We only could conclude that my daughter's chicken had been heated up next to mine and the grease got on hers! This has turned us off with selecting our dinner from here when we come to visit our daughter in the future. read more

I only heard of this business when they installed a location inside the Omni Hotel. A couple of days ago, I decided to try out this location to much disappointment. I decided to sit at the bar and there was really no service. I was never given or offered water, and the workers pretty much ignored me. I was so excited when this place opened its newest location just down from my gym. Mexican food is my jam and it doesn't matter to me if it's authentic Mexican, Tex-Mex, or more a fusion I'm all about it. I've been several times and I'm definitely a fan. I've tried several of the taco varieties (fried fish, birra, tinga, chorizo, brisket) and I enjoyed them all with the Birra being my favorite. I also love the Burrito Love. I usually get it with the pork and it's huge and delicious. I always get it topped with queso too. They also have great appetizers like the chorizo queso and chips and the guacamole. Their margaritas are also very good (and strong) I personally like the raspberry but the basic lime is good also. If you're like me and love Mexican food of all varieties then you should try I Love Tacos! It's a great addition to the Highlands! read more

I visited I Love Tacos for the first time several weeks ago and if I'm being honest, I really wasn't a fan. To start, it was hot in the restaurant (not sure if they were having issues with the air conditioning), the bathroom was disgusting, and the bathroom at refills work confused me (they have a soda machine out in the dining area with cups/lids/straws but our waiter was getting refills for us- not sure if he was just too polite to tell us that we were supposed to get our own?). I will say this though- the staff was super nice. If the food had been really good I might be able to overlook the first three things for me. We ordered cheese and queso, which tasted like...nothing. There was honestly no difference between that queso and one I could get at the store in a jar. The elote was expensive and lackluster- again, just lacking in flavor. I have gotten better elote for $1 off of a cart. I ordered birria tacos and, full disclosure, it was my first time trying them. They were a mess to eat, which is fine, but the meat was mostly fat. That was not enjoyable to eat. Since it was my first time trying birria I'm not sure if this is normal? Either way, I would not eat them again. The only thing I somewhat enjoyed was my sangria margarita. It was aesthetically pleasing, tasted good, and was pretty boozy! Wanting a quick snack, I ordered a chicken tinga and a shrimp taco for pick-up. My meal was ready in under 5-10 minutes, and was overall quite good. I probably wouldn't do the shrimp again, as it was a little lacking in flavor (and heavy on the onions!), but the tinga was very satisfying. As far as traditional taco spots on Bardstown Rd go, I don't think ILT is quite as good as Panchito's or Taco City Louisville, but it's close. read more

Oh how I love tacos! This was my first experience, it was delivery so can't comment on the service or atmosphere. Doordash did a terrific job of getting it quickly to my house. Unfortunately, I was missing an order of fish tacos in corn tortillas. Since Bazo's closed, I've yet to find a fish taco like theirs. The ones here are very similar. The amount of filling should be so that you can pick it up without having everything spilling out! The fish had a delicious beer batter coating and was moist on inside. The Baja type sauce was VERY good. It had red cabbage and red onions on top. The onions weren't mentioned on menu, I thought they were a bit strong, next time I'll remove a few. The burrito was also a winner, we had steak and chicken, everything was seasoned well and they are huge! My suggestion is to cover it with queso ($1).The queso is SO tasty, I liked the heavier homemade chips as well. A vegetarian Torta was okay, maybe a little bland, but not bad. Elotes were good, not too much mayo, the corn was cooked perfectly. I had to end with warm cinnamon/sugar churros filled with gooey caramel. The intention was to save half for breakfast, but that didn't happen. I found out that Ernesto Rivera is half owner. Twenty years ago I played music at both of his Ernesto's locations. The chips are great, but my one complaint would be that they do not come with salsa. After walking all that way in the heat I was ravenous! I got the Birria tacos. When ordering pay special attention to the location, we ordered from the wrong one initially and had to call to cancel. The menu and ordering process online was easy. We ordered from Bardstown Road location and pre-paid for pickup. Our order was ready exactly when it was promised and it was easy to pickup. We ordered the chips and queso, elotes, asada, el pastor and fish tacos and the burrito love with chicken. Everything was very good. The chips and queso was standard and very good. They provided a big bag of chips with the order. My husband really liked the elotes - the corn was well seasoned and you could taste the lime. I thought the corn was slightly undercooked but was still good. My husband ordered the tacos, he thought the fish one was the best. Said the other tacos were a little under seasoned but overall enjoyed them. The burrito love was very good. I loved all the cilantro and the red sauce, it really added to the dish. First time trying the location on Bardstown Road. Quite tasty. The Queso & Chips appetizer was substantial and huge. Chips were a bit thick for my liking (I'm used to the paper-thin chips at El Torazo), but they had a good corn flavor and held up well to the thick and tasty Queso. Since it's a taco place I tried, of course, the tacos. I had the Asada (sirloin steak, onions (would be tastier if they grilled 'em in the same spices the meat is marinaded in) and, my fave, fresh cilantro. It was a decent taco even though the steak was a little dry (but nothing a squeeze of lime juice and some salsa couldn't cure). I also had the Brisket taco which surprised me in how good it was. The beef was tender and smoky with a really good flavor that was complimented by the onions and cilantro. It dripped when I ate it, so it was plenty juicy. Lastly, I tried the Al Pastor with marinated, grilled pork, onion, pineapple and, yep, cilantro. This one stole my heart, especially with a squeeze of lime! The acidic tartness of the lime juice really helped to awaken the flavor of the grilled pork! Really excellent! If you want some good tacos and reasonable prices, give I TACOS a try. Started off with the chorizo and chips - homemade queso with chorizo and tortilla chips - this was quite good I would definitely order this again. I then did a sampling of three taco flavors: masita de puerco - pork with cilantro and onions chorizo - chorizo sausage with cilantro and onions mahi-mahi - mango pico de gallo, pickled red onions, ginger aioli sauce They were all good, but if i had to rate them it would be 1) chorizo, 2) mahi-mahi, 3) masita de puerco. They are a bit expensive for what you get, and nothing here has any sort of heat to it, not even the sauces, so if you are hoping for that, sorry, this is really geared towards a white persons palate. My only big gripe was that we came here when it was not very busy, and I am not kidding when I say our server came over no less than 16 times to ask how we were doing. Like, please no, stop, we are very low maintenance. It really put a damper on our conversation being interrupted that much. I know he was just trying to do his job but even coming by half that amount would have been a lot, considering we were there just over an hour.
