Some hidden gems are simply worth searching for. I stumbled on Taco Choza approximately 4 years ago. The service, food, ambiance and the cleanliness is everything I look for in a restaurant. As soon as you open the door, the aroma of delicious food overwhelms your senses. All staff members are incredibly attentive and nice, yet another example of what makes Louisville such a hospitable town! Taco Choza is a good taco place that I quite enjoy. This time around, I got the el compadre burrito with steak. The burrito was great! It tasted very good and was a very large portion that I was satisfied with especially for its price. They weren't shy with the steak but gave an abundance of it in the burrito. The environment is good as well as the outside was quite nice, although the inside seating is few and limited. The servers were also all nice and very friendly. I've had Taco Choza's tacos as well and they taste great, but unfortunately the high prices frequently turn me away as I need to eat a lot of tacos per sitting. I enjoyed the burrito because it was a big portion for a good price, and if the tacos can get closer to that portion/price ratio, Taco Choza would be one of the best in my books! But it is still quite good overall and a solid place for tacos or burritos. read more

Cashier recommended Birria and Baja Fish tacos which I got along with Vaca Frita. My friend got shrimp taco and bourbon taco. Everything was delicious and portions were HUGE. We only managed to eat one full taco and took bites of the others. My friend's favorite was the Birria which didn't have enough spice for me but was tasty. Vaca Frita and both seafood tacos had some kick. I loved the Vaca Frita but wished I'd gotten the bourbon taco as well which tasted like barbecue and had corn and cojita cheese. This is one of my favorite places to eat! It's local and the staff are amazing. The Crazy cheese taco is also my go to. They have indoor seating and outdoor seating with a nice patio area. On the weekends and some week days they will have live music on the patio which is a great addition to the atmosphere and ambiance. read more

Good tacos at a questionable price. Got three different tacos & enjoyed all of them, although the fajita one could have been cooked longer. They are decent sized tacos and full of flavor. I think my hang up here is just the price point. It was $50 for two people to eat. I think that's a little outrageous for a taco place. Granted we got all the "extras" but for $50 I expected a lot more. The elote was blah, wouldn't recommend. Lacked the juiciness and flavors I tend to enjoy. On the bright side it was excellent and kind service. The food was being made fresh. Overall: I would maybe come back and consider only getting tacos and bringing a water. Fellas, if your girl is grumpy and can't decide what to eat take her here. I was silently dancing in my chair and eating the entire time it was so good. Everything here is great: the food, the staff, the vibes, and it's dog friendly! The line to order was long, which makes sense given how delicious the food is. We got birria, al pastor, and salmon tacos, a ham and cheese empanada, and chips and guac. It ended up being about $40ish. But the tacos are generously sized so you could probably get away with two tacos. My favorite was the al pastor, so flavorful and they don't skimp on the meat. Birria tacos were *chefs kiss*. Salmon taco was good but I might try something else next time. Guac was good and had some good chunks in it and the chips were not greasy at all. Taco Choza is a Saint Mathews Mexican establishment located off Westport road. I've heard great things about This place and have had it on my wish list for awhile now. Last night while taking my oldest daughter out for a daddy daughter date she wanted some tacos or burritos so it made a refectory opportunity to check this place out. The outside patio is really nice and has an awesome Angels wing mural that was a fun photo op. Upon walking in it is a order at the counter and grab a table number to get your food setup. Like the outside they had very nice and cool decor on the inside. I personally ordered a chicken quesadilla. My daughter got a shrimp taco and we got a to go order ot street corn and a El Compadre with chicken for my wife at home. The service here was kinda iffy. The worker here was not very helpful when asked about menu items (language barrier?) and it took quite a bit of time for them to greet us even though we were the only ones inside. I did like how they had a separate fridge area with salsa and sauces. That was unique and came In Handy. Our food came out after about 20 min. My daughter liked her shrimp taco a lot but it was so tiny. It kinda bummed her out. My chicken quesadilla was good portion and very good. They were very friendly with the chicken and it had great flavor. The salsa was very good. Gave it an added flavor. My wife burrito was also massive. Which made my daughter jealous because she was debating taco or burrito and regretted her decision. My wife said the burrito was good. A little heavy on the peepers but overall she enjoyed it and her street corn. Overall a pretty cool place. I can see why they are popular. I only got a glimpse of the atmosphere, and immediately I wished we would've eaten there. Such cool vibes! Outdoor seating as well. I absolutely loved the mahi mahi taco. Probably one of my favorite tacos I've tried in the last few years. It had a creamy sauce, fresh pico and the mahi mahi was delicious itself. I also ordered a few carnitas tacos. Also delicious, classic street style! And of course I had to try their Mexican street corn. Overwhelmingly delicious flavor! It hit the spot My only regret was not ordering another mahi mahi taco. Everything was incredible, from the food, to the cute interior, to the speedy service, I'm definitely a fan. This place is a hidden gem! You can easily pass it if you're driving down Westport in St. Matthews but we are so glad we found it! It's a pretty small place but it does offer outside seating as well. The ladies at the counter were extremely pleasant and friendly! The young lady taking our order was very patient and had a great personality that makes you want to order everything she suggests! Menu is filled with your basics for a taco place and prices are very reasonable. Tacos, burritos, quesadillas, etc. We ordered two tacos a piece and also had the street corn which was delicious! You really can get away with eating just one taco because they are HUGE. And I believe the most expensive one I saw was right around $4.25 or so. We also had to try the chips and queso which was pretty good. (Think Salsaritas) and of course a margarita. The salsa is available in a self serve set up which was nice and we tried the jalapeño, habanero and regular salsas. The first two had some kick to them but the regular salsa was pretty bland. I would compare it to El Nopal's. The only negative point I could make was that the steak on both of our tacos was pretty tough and chewy. Might've been a bad day. Not enough to take a star tho! The lady who took our order (the owner's sister in law) constantly kept the dining room clean and repeatedly checked on us to make sure we were good. It was even nice to talk to other customers as we looked at each other's dishes and talked about how good they were! What a great first experience! My husband and I were given fantastic service at the front counter - a full explanation of the menu, shown where drinks, complimentary salsa and utensils were located. We snagged a table in the back and started with the guacamole and chips. The rest of our order was brought directly to our table. The guacamole was fresh, but not as flavorful as I'd have expected. Our next visit we'll try queso. The mild salsa is fairly basic but the jalapeño sauce was great, a bit of kick and a lot of flavor. The taco chozo had steak, cheese, lettuce and tomato. I added some jalapeño sauce for more flavor. A bit basic, like making tacos at home. The Al Pastor was super flavorful. Marinated pork with some heat, lot of pineapple and onion (I opted for no cilantro). The tacos with onions are heavy handed and raw so ask them to go light if they aren't your thing. They offer a kids menu with taco and quesadilla options. They also have a burger and fries. This is great - my kids aren't fans of street tacos and the variety on the menu will ensure we can enjoy the meal as a family. I'm excited to come back and try other tacos! Plenty of indoor seating (social distancing could be difficult depending on the crowd, the tables aren't blocked well). The music playing was loud. We went back, and this time we tried nachos, the tamale plate, and a crazy cheese taco. Everything was delicious! My husband normally doesn't enjoy tamales, but this one was so moist and flavorful! The carnitas on top make it unique and savory. The crazy cheese taco was definitely crazy, but the Wisconsin boy was happy. The nachos were so large we could have eaten just those and been satisfied... but of course we ate everything! Go for margaritas on the incredible patio while the weather is still good. big fan of taco tuesdays around here finally checked out the birria tacos at taco choza along with my favorite baja fish taco. we also had the chips & salsa, margarita with tajin rim, and some tequeños (venezuelan cheese sticks) everything was so delicious but the birria tacos and the tequeños were the stars of the show. i'm not super experienced in birria tacos but taco choza was one of the top votes when i asked for the best in louisville & i'll have to agree! i also loved trying a different version of cheese sticks than i'm used to. if you're in the st. matthews area, definitely give them a go! read more
