Beer battered Haddock
KJ D.

A lovely seafood restaurant that offers a nice variety of fish and shellfish. Great presentation of entrees and very flavorful. My husband had the nerve battered haddock with chips, and I tried the special, pan fried sea bass with greens. Try the creme brûlée.. nice touch with the apricots.

Delicious and sophisticated Glasgow dining. Encapsulating all that is wonderful about the Merchant City- Scottish style, elegant and clean design with a friendly and professional vibe. You could visit here for business or with friends and both would be grand. The service was pitch perfect- friendly and attentive and a really consistent tone from all staff, like all the best places have. The decor inside is lovely, really in keeping with the Scottish sea theme, atmospheric mood lighting and great details like high quality cutlery and glasses make for a high end feel to the dining experience. The pre-theatre is £15.95 for 2 courses or £17.95 for 3 and has a great selection of signature dishes. The portions are very generous, especially for a pre-theatre, so you need a big appetite to do it justice! The soup of the day- spiced lentil- was gorgeous and a truly epic bowl which left me pretty much full after just a starter. The fish pie was absolutely outstanding - as a frequenter of fish pies I would say this is up there with the best I've had. The food is really great quality, quite high in salt and butter and the naughty things so probably not the best option for the more healthy eater unless it's a special treat. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu.

Stornoway Black Pudding and Scallops #yelpgallery

On a busy Saturday night, my dad was hunting for somewhere to go for dinner. He doesn't generally like booking a place when he's indecisive about where to eat so we turned up to Merchant City and wandered around. He went into Gandolfi Fish on the off chance they had a table soon. Luckily for us, they did BUT they needed it back within an hour and 15 mins. Eeeeek. We decided to stay and ordered starters, I got scallops with black pudding. VERY good. The scallops were cooked to my liking (I'm fussy with scallops after my scallop incident of 2010 where I got vile food poisoning at another Merchant City restaurant). The black pudding and it's crispiness complemented my scallops. For main course, I ordered langoustines that were served with fries. Once again, I couldn't fault how they were cooked. Thankfully they weren't overcooked rubber! They are a little tricky to eat but that's all part of the fun. Before I knew it, the people that were to dine at our table turned up 15 mins early and the staff were trying to now rush us out and said, sorry no dessert. We couldn't switch to another table either so instead we went to Tinderbox around the corner for coffee and cake. I would have loved to have spent more time in the restaurant, but it was our own fault for just walking in off the street instead of booking. Morale of the story? BOOK A TABLE.

Waiter spent a great deal of time talking to us just as if we known him for a long time it was great. the level of friendliness and hospitality was very impressive. The menu is very nice and not expensive at all. TRUFFLED BRIOCHE- The dish is amazing even though I did not taste any truffle but there was a entire truffle mushroom itself there, the plate they presented it in was annoying to rest the silverware, was a bowl type of plate and the fork kept falling in lol GOLDEN BREEZE- the drink was suggested by our waiter and it was amazing cudos to him! GNOCCHI- WHAT an unfortunate plate. This was to me not a gnocchi.i love the fact that our waited noticed and made sure to ask me if everything was ok with my choice, that shows that the staff cares about customer service. The gnocchi was blend and tasteless it to me was more of a polenta and not a gnocchi it was cooked pan fried and not like a past should so it was not a great plate definitely not a gnocchi. I would definitely recommend the place, not the gnocchi but the place was pretty nice. come and have a try!

They didn't bring me a spoon with my soup so I had to flag someone down to get one. Not a huge deal but you tend to expect more from a place like this. When I finally got someone she apologized and said I don't know what's happening here, that shouldn't have happened. Really an apology alone would have sufficed without the extra commentary. I had the steak. The steak has a good taste but I ordered hollandaise sauce as my sauce and I wish I would not have poured it on my steak because it wasn't very good. The sauce just really lacked flavor. So, overall it was ok. Not the worst meal I've had but not the best either. I would go back I just wouldn't order the hollandaise sauce.

As it was only lunch I restrained myself and opted for a starter of the fish cakes with a side order of chips, which was just as well as the fish cakes were a tad on the small side. This was mildly disappointing at the time, but actually they would have been fine as a starter if you were moving on to something more substantial. I was glad I'd ordered the chips as well though. Herself as usual went for the eponymous bivalve molluscs that are the house speciality. These were quite on the large side, and disappeared before I had a chance to get a picture of the bowl so must have been good! An Americano coffee to finish was of good strength and taste, even if it was only just over half a cup; presumably they were leaving a gap for the milk that I didn't ask for and don't want. Still, I guess if they'd topped it up with water it would be weaker and that would be almost as big a sin. The restaurant is quite large and was pretty empty on this particular lunchtime. They have a mezzanine area upstairs that you can rent for private groups, which would be great if you had enough folk who were seafood lovers.

You can make reservations at all of the locations except the upstairs bar. The food was really good, the Eton mess was delicious and my friend had the fish soup which was outstanding. I also highly recommend the mussels. We tried the gin slow fizz , which was incredible, and I highly recommend it. However, while the food was good it wasn't very memorable except for the gin fizz and the Eton mess. I would also say that the wait staff was incredibly good with us except for one person who was a little pushy. They came over and described the drinks, helped us with recommendations on size and portions and were on top of our table for refills on bread and water. Probably would recommend this place for booze and dessert. Its in Merchant City so when you're in the area, good stop to have a client dinner or drinks with a friend at the bar. The interior is classy and dark and has an "old money" feel in a good way. It's downstairs and you feel like you are entering somewhere secret and discrete. The only bad thing is they had the heat cranked UP when we went. It was so hot down there I didn't know how some of the staff were running around in long sleeves, I had to keep going outside to get some nice chilly air to take a break from all the heat. The food was 5 stars but the heat did make the experience not pleasant. Spring White Negroni: Gin, white vermouth, limoncello. Nice, cool, and refreshing in that hot, hot dining area, lol. New Style Sashimi: Salmon, bass, and scallops. Basically a crudo topped with furikake and slices of ginger. We thought this was overly sauced and a very unjapanese way to eat Sashimi so it was too far of a departure for us. Local Lindisframe Rock Oysters: Excellent, sweet and not too large, these you have to eat fast because of the heat. You can see the ice melting and fusing in the picture and I took that picture as soon as it was brought out! King Prawn Noodle Salad: This was SO good, our whole family loved it. If we come back we would definitely order this again. Wild Halibut with cabbage, peas, pancetta, and charred asparagus. Perfectly cooked but the sauce was too rich and creamy for us. Fish Soup: crabmeat, ginger, and prawn dumplings. Good bowl, would taste better on a cold day.

The standard of the food is outstanding, the service is impeccable, they have a small but select wine list and a good cocktail menu. All in a relaxed and not overcrowded atmosphere. It's been too long since we'd visited, but it was just as good as we remembered. I had the tuna sashimi to start - which unexpectedly came with chopsticks - while Herself went for the tuna tartare. Both absolutely delicious, melt-in-the-mouth good. For mains, it was the halibut and scallops for her; I tried the monkfish, although with some slight trepidation over the banana, green lentil and chickpea sauce. I needn't have worried though, it wasn't a very strong curry and actually worked really well with the monkfish and the haddock. Just enough room to squeeze in a dairy-free sorbet for me - they had a lovely cucumber sorbet that was served with the tuna tartare, so I tried that. Herself can never resist a good cheese board, and this one was good (so I'm told). All in all, a fantastic meal. So good that I completely forgot to take any pictures. The sad news is that Derek, the owner is apparently planning to retire and is looking for someone to take over the business, so my advice is to get in there quickly before he's gone. Oh - and they have Derek's Gamba cook books on sale, £20 each or two for £30. If you ask nicely, you may even get them autographed!

The name of the restaurant was in sideways vertical lettering on the building face. Making my way in the entrance, a host greeted me and took me to an open table. The dinner rush at that time was small, and I looked over the menu. I went with fried haddock, hand-cut baked/fried chips, small white orbs of pickled onions, and tartar sauce. For my beverage I went with water with lemon in it. Prices were excellent (for example the pickled onions were less than one pound) and the servings were very large, I was happy I was hungry. The fish was perfectly flaky and fried to a golden perfection. The tartar sauce was thick and flavorful and the fries not too crispy nor soggy. They were especially good dipped in the tartar sauce. The restrooms were marked by gender - male and female. I felt more at home with those terms than I did the terms man and woman used back in the United States of America. Since we were not hungry, we shared the £13 set which came with a starter and an entree. We love to try weird foods so we selected pigeon. It was fantastic. The pigeon reminded me of liver because it was was tender, chewy, and gamy. The only difference was the texture because liver is more grainy. I loved the combination of the slightly sweet cherry sauce and crunchy peanuts. As for the entree, we chose lamb stuffed with haggis. It was extremely succulent and out of this world. I appreciated that none of these dishes came with bread. Don't get me wrong, bread is amazing but I felt so bloated because sandwiches are everywhere. It was refreshing to have an Atkins diet sort of meal. Also the two generous glasses of wine definitely tied things together. Unfortunately, all good things come to an end because the dessert was anticlimactic. We ordered a cheese dish and vanilla ice cream. The cheese dish came with two cheese wedges, grapes, assorted crackers, and jam. I was not blown away. Also, since the ice cream was icy and not creamy, it reminded me of the $1 McDonald cones...which I love but was expecting more.
