Absolutely an amazing experience. I had heard some chatter a while back that Garage 17 is welcoming and accommodating to children with special needs, so I reached out to the owner, Freddy, to explain my situation and give him a rundown of my 5-year-old son's needs. From the very first message, Freddy was incredibly kind and understanding. He even offered to let us come in during regular business hours or after hours if that would make things easier for my son. I decided to come during business hours so my son's therapists could be there to support him. As expected, my son struggled a bit when he heard the clippers, but Freddy and his team were patient, calm, and completely understanding the entire time. With a little teamwork, support, toys, and snacks, we were able to get through the haircut successfully. What impressed me even more was Freddy's knowledge and attention to detail. He understood exactly what products needed to be used in my son's hair to help detangle it and make the haircut easier for him. As a parent of a child with special needs, finding businesses that are truly patient, compassionate, and willing to work with your child can be incredibly difficult. I'm so grateful to have found someone in town who genuinely cares and who we can visit regularly as my son continues to get more comfortable with haircuts. Highly recommend Garage 17! read more

I heard about Garage 17 from our BCBA. She said they were great for kids with sensory sensitivities, and she was absolutely right. Josh took great care of my 5 year old and worked with our therapist and me to make him feel as comfortable as possible. I was amazed when he got out the Lamborghini clippers and I couldn't even hear them. My son, who has never been to a barber before and has screamed every time I have tried cutting his hair, stood by the open garage door for 18 minutes while Josh gently buzzed his hair. Second beard trim and went for a hair cut for the first time in over a decade ( professional cut ). Kaleb did a great job. They've been doing lots of kids back to school hair cuts this week. I was there today when Freddy did three different kids. He was super with them. Taking and joking with them thru out the cut. All three kids were super chill. They all got candy after their cut ( I didn't get any candy ). Super relaxed atmosphere. Book an appointment on line. They are filling up for the back to school cuts. read more

You will never find a barber more caring than Freddy. He cares that my boys feel loved and confident in their haircuts. He cares about all the guys in his, shop and teaching them all the tools of the trade that he has, masters in his 30+ years. He cares about making sure everyone feels included in his shop... LGBTQ, Straight, autistic, disabled, woman vs, man. He does it all with great haircuts, pride, and love. We met Freddy, when he became our barber, but he very, quickly became family. I want to say thank you to Freddy and the gang at Garage 17. Today I left another barbershop that I trusted for more than 2 years, nearly in tears with the worst haircut of my life, and after a year of growing my hair, I was nearly bald from the butchered hack job cut I received. When I called Freddy in tears, he immediately made time for me, quickly assessed the damage, and began to comfort me that things could be salvaged. After nearly 40 minutes of careful and surgically repairing the damage left by the other barbershop, I left Freddy's chair with my dignity in tact, and hopefully a new bound friendship for life. A persons hair represents who they are, so a bad haircut can make you feel worthless and straight up ugly. After my visit with Freddy and his gang, I not only feel good about myself, but I feel like a forever friendship was won today. I used to go to Dappered Man to get my haircuts with my barber, Freddy. Freddy headed to the Garage 17 and so did I. I will never stop getting fresh cuts from Freddy. He's also very kind and likes to talk about things like how your day went. I always give Freddy a tip. There's also always music or a TV show playing. Also the kids get candy after their cuts. If you don't go here, you are missing out! 5/5 stars. I would give more if I could. read more

Freddy was amazing with my special needs daughter. All of the guys immediately made us feel welcome and were super nice to my daughter. Freddy was able to cut my daughters hair and fix a previous haircut nightmare. my daughter doesn't sit for her hair normally but she felt so welcome and safe that she sat the whole time. If you have a special needs child (autistic, ADHD, developmentally delayed, diabetic, this is all what my son has, he is verbal but he is a lot to handle for most services like hair cutting) I 1 MILLION times reccomend Dave here at Garage 17! He is just amazing! I drove all the way from Greenwood because he was reccomended and I will be doing it again for his 1st grade haircut in August. The atmosphere was great too and the rest of the barbers were smiling at the antics of Dave's chage that kept my son engaged and is mind off the clippers. They sang, he let him use the hair blower, showed him how the clipper vaccum worked and let him spray other barbers with a spert bottle of water. Told kid jokes a 6 year old would find funny. My son is high functioning and he is the very touchie type of autism not the standoffish type (might sound good but trust me, my daughter is the stand offish type, also high functioning but the aggrssive hugs and compulsiveness of my son is a lot harder to control than reasoning with my daughter to get her hair cut). Anyhow, I am telling you, if you have a special needs person in your life, kid or not, Dave is amazing! He also got his hair cut in the 30 minutes the appointment was set for. read more
