I called Garage Doors by Nester because the garage door installed by Overhead Door had their installed spring break. The coil spring or the tension spring was only five years old. And yet, true to form, the spring was about worth it's weight as is Overhead Door. In other words, Overhead Door sucks! Just the same, Garage Doors by Nester is legit! They did not charge us a fee for merely showing up. We were booked on Saturday for a 12 o'clock appointment but due to the fact that we could not get our cars out, they made every arrangement possible for a technician, Matt, to come out and address our issue today, Friday, the same day we called. I had a broken torsion spring on my 16x7 garage door and first called A1 for an estimate. The lady on the phone said the price to install two new torsion springs would probably be less than $400. The tech for A1 came out and said the charge for installing the recommended 5 year warranty springs would be over $600. I said no thank you and paid the $39 charge for the visit. I called Garage Doors by Nestor and was also told that the price to replace two torsion springs would probably be less than $400. The tech, Adrian, came out the same day I called and replaced two torsion springs with a 5 year warranty for $325. But here is the biggest thing. The tech was meticulous, talented, and pleasant. He probably spent almost as much time testing, adjusting, and lubricating the existing hardware as he did installing the two springs. After 45 years of home ownership, I have found my go to garage door company. read more

my garage door opener was very old and noisy, and the arm that opens the door was making a ton of noise. While the gentleman was at my house to give me a quote, he did a minor repair to my garage door opener arm at NO charge, which fixed the main issue. Who does that?! No high pressure sales, I felt like I was only given the facts I needed to make my decision, which was to replace the opener with something more secure and much quieter. Only downfall is the company needs to update their work phones for credit card payment security and so they have the latest software on current hardware. Had a torsion spring snap yesterday. Did a little shopping around for a repair service, locally and in Albuquerque, about 30 miles away. Chose Garage Doors by Nestor because they were; 1) very responsive to a call; 2) made themselves available on short notice; 3) gave me a reasonable quote over the phone, and; 4) did not show signs of wanting to sell me other stuff, like extended warranties some vendors push. They also didn't seem anything like the weird guy I hired a few years ago who turned out to be hyper-religious and lectured me on the story of Jonah in pictures he drew on a piece of cardboard in my garage. True story. Anyways, the young man Nestor sent to my place, Jacob, arrived right on time, was pleasant, got right to work, did the job quickly and completely, and made all the post-install lubrication and adjustments needed to make the door work smooth as silk. I was offered standard springs (like my old ones) or an upgrade to slightly higher quality for a just a few bucks more. I went with the better springs, and was educated about what to expect in terms of serviceable life and maintenance. Nestor provides a three year warranty on the springs, no extra charge. The trip charge was also very reasonable ($15) considering my distance from Albuquerque. Credit cards accepted using a swipe block and phone, or checks. I suspect if they don't take Apple and Android Pay right now, they will tool up to do so if the market demands it. As if that's not enough, Jacob told me how much he enjoyed the mountain scenery where I live outside the city and was glad to make the trip. He left a company business card on my door opener panel which tells me they care about repeat business, as so many local vendors I find do not. I could not be happier with Garage Doors by Nestor. Worst business ever! Ordered me a door I didn't want & installed it! Wouldn't write agreement on paper, everything was verbal. Then he LIED & said that's the door I asked for! Bilked me out of 700.00 for door I hate! I hope karma follows him for rest of his life! Be leery of Nestor doors!! He's a nightmare!!! I was supposed to have a fire door installed. Nestors put in a new opener for me about a year ago. They were prompt...on time, fair pricing and great service after the installation. We've had them come out a couple of times since for minor issues and no service charge. We fully expected to pay but they re-set our code without nickel and diming. Pretty disappointed in Nestor. Purchased a brand new home in July 2016 - home built in summer / fall 2015. Late February 2017 the garage door just stopped about 90% down upon closing. Nothing was in the way - no blockage of any kind. Pressed the button again and the door opened. Pressed the button again and the door closed - and discovered that the top panel had been bent in tow places. Nestor (Chris) came out, inspected the door and stated the door was not under warranty because it was installed in July 2015 - although the house was not purchased until July 2016! Chris also stated that the door must have been damaged when it was painted during construction - even though I explained when and how it was damaged - his reply; "I don't know that"! Really!!! Right, I made up a story. A neighbor recommend Overhead Door - they were great. If you need a garage door or a garage door serviced, give Overhead a call, hey were great. read more

I called them to see if they come out to look at my broken garage door, and to my surprise they had an appt that day and the next. I have not dealt directly with Garage Doors by Nestor (GDN), and I never will. We bought a home in Albuquerque 1 year ago and the home inspection pointed out broken torsion springs on the garage door, though there were extension springs which appeared to be shoddily installed and didn't even have a safety/retention cable installed through these springs. During the negotiation of the home purchase, we requested that the seller's have the torsion springs replaced. The sellers and their realtor called out GDN to assess the situation. A rep came out, inspected the garage door assembly, and indicated to the sellers that because the extension springs appeared fine, no torsion springs were necessary. But they did quote $300 for installation of new torsion springs if that's the route the sellers wanted to go. To be clear, I do not know who installed the extension spring setup, but GDN did inspect the setup. When this information was conveyed to us, we decided to ask the sellers to fix a couple of different items, as we trusted that a company would actually be honest and give meaningful advice. Throughout the past year, probably about once a month one of the two extension spring cables would pop off of the shoddily-installed pulleys and I'd have to wrestle with it to get it back on. Today it happened again, so I decided to call another garage door repair service (will not name the company in this review so no one thinks I'm just trying to bash GDN to drive business to a specific competitor). The new person came out and said that he would not touch the existing extension spring setup because it was such an unsafe setup and was liable to cause serious injury at some point. The pulleys and the springs used on the setup were not intended for our garage door. They were rated for either a single garage door or a hollow double garage door (likely weighing about 60 pounds). Ours is an insulated, double garage door which weighs in the neighborhood of 200 pounds. The motor was having to push/pull this extra weight which the springs and pulleys were not designed to support, which also made the motor unit sound horrible every time it was used. I asked the new guy what he would charge to install new torsion springs, and his quote was just over half of what these losers at GDN would have charged. My garage door is now very nicely balanced to the point where I can disconnect it from the drive shaft and lift it up the tracks with one hand, stopping it at any point along the track. The noise from the motor is now less than half what it was before due to the new torsion springs actually supporting the load so the motor doesn't have to. These guys at GDN should be shut down for inspecting such an unsafe installation and giving it their stamp of approval. I am unsure if they are too incompetent to notice such safety issues or are just too sleazy to say/do the right thing. Regardless, I won't be calling them ever, and will recommend against them to my friends and family. read more
