Don't miss this place in Key West! Brought my parents here, who are skeptical of most of my recommendations, and they went back on their own a few days later--loved it! My dad had the burger which he devoured. My mom and I had shrimp tacos, one regular style and one korean style. The korean was SPICY!!! Loved both, but I think I may stick with the regular style in the future because my mouth was really burning for a while. You can get alcoholic drinks (and a much needed blast of AC) inside the little adjacent bar. Really enjoyed! read more

Korean bbq at half the price. The amount of short rib meat in the 2 taco is equivalent to a korean bbq dinner-- very tender and full of flavor. Authentic seasoning too. The kimchi was good but clearly honed down for broader palates as I normally like the super garlicky and spicy version. Nice break from seafood every night. We also listened to steel drum live music in the courtyard while waiting for our meal. Also there are good brews to drink too. read more

Best food truck I have ever been to !! Located in the amazing key west, you NEED to come and give this place a try!!! Literally 6 items in the menu and almost each one is made with love and unique from any other place. Tried the yum yum shrimp tacos and the Korean BBQ tacos that were so delicious and spicy !! I loved them so much. I really couldn't pick my favorite one so just get both ! My friend also tried the UMAMI burger that was so juicy and crafted to perfection!! This place just screams key west ! OH HECK YES. We ate a ton of food in Key west, and this is the only place I was disappointed I didn't get to visit twice. I got the fish tacos, and was able to try some of the bulgogi burrito, and the burger. Everything was absolutely delicious. The fish was perfect and seasoned beautifully the salsas and toppings all were light and fresh and wonderful. The bulgogi was hugely flavorful and INCREDIBLY spicy which was great for us. The burger was the juiciest burger I've ever had. The next time I'm in key west I will be sure to come back here. Don't miss this!!! Garbos doesn't sell alcohol but they're tucked behind a bar that sells beer and wine, the patio area seems to be shared and its a brilliant partnership. read more

This place is simply put "The Bomb", we ate here 3 times the last 2 trips we made, and each time they didn't disappoint, they were so friendly and welcoming, we were greeted promptly upon stepping up to place our order, we got our food fairly quick, my wife and I both had the umami burger calrissian style, it was topped with their Korean bbq called bulgogi, the burger was cooked perfectly and was juicy, the live music was also great to listen to while dining, I highly recommend stopping by, you won't be disappointed. read more

I was looking to make a quick escape out of Key West but needed some food before embarking on the three hour trip back to Miami. By way of Yelp I got word of Garbo's Grill and decided to check it out. Heidi was friendly from the get-go, immediately greeting me with a "Awww aren't you cute?" In the back of her mind I'm sure she meant, "Why is this 12 year-old running around Key West by herself?" She was quick to keep up conversation though and after a few minutes knew exactly who I was (and that I was indeed not 12) and what brought me to the Keys. Once she found out where I was heading, she even recommended a consignment store in Islamorada I should stop at. Little things like that can make what could be an awkward wait for food that much better. I ordered up the Mahi quesadilla thinking that it might be a little bit easier to eat in the car than a burrito. This is not your normal quesadilla though- it was thick and stuffed with cheese, mangos, chunks of fresh fish, cilantro and jalapenos. All of it delicious but still not car-friendly. I could not resist eating every bite in minutes and decided the stains left on my shirt were well worth the sacrifice. I feel like Key West is full of hole-in-the-wall places like Garbo's. So many that it's hard for me to stick to just one. Even so, I'd definitely head back to this stand next time I am in town but instead, enjoy it by the water or at a table outside just to save my clothes from the mess. read more

If I only had 24 hours in Key West and had my choice of one place to eat, I would go to Garbo's Grill for a fish taco. This is a MUST visit if you go to Key West. Your Numero Uno destination. Last night I turned to my husband and said, "I'll have a fish taco and a Korean bbq beef taco for dinner." Then I could have cried because I was back in NJ and I couldn't scooter over to the best food truck grub I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Seriously, the best food we had in Key West was served out of a truck and we ate it sitting on a plastic beer cooler. I really can't pick a favorite taco because the mahi mahi and the korean bbq were equally spectucular!! You get two tacos per order so I highly suggest you get the fish and your significant other get the beef.......then trade so you each experience the wonder of each. The mahi mahi is perfectly marinated and grilled then placed in a fresh soft flour tortilla and sprinkled with cilantro and a special sauce. HUGE chunks of moist, fresh fish. The Korean beef was just as good, a spicy blend of marinated meat. Garbo's is owned by this super friendly girl, a Kansas transplant who decided to relocate to Key West. Garbo's is right across the street from Pepper's of Key West and we saw a couple of smarties bringing their tacos across the street and sampling all the hot sauces. Both businesses have a friendly relationship, so you will be greeted warmly by Peppers should you choose to do this. Finally, my only complaint about this truck is the hours. Garbo's is only open from 11-6. We arrived at 5:15 one day and they were already packing up because they had ran out of food. The next day we arrived at 11:30 and I had a fish taco for breakfast! We left Key West at 1pm on Saturday and guess what we got for our road trip to Miami: Garbo's tacos. And we also enjoyed a Mango Dog: A HUGE beef hot dog with mango, jalapeno and special sauce. Only 362 days until I return to Key West. I miss you already. read more

Garbo's Grill is the meal that will stay in your mind forever when you think of Key West -you won't remember the beautiful dinner with wine on the waterfront, you will remember going to this teenytiny, silver food cart, with awesome, friendly people running it, the satified customers in the know sitting around enjoying great food prepared with care and watching the brave chickens roam around wanting tidbits of hot dog buns that were once filled with beef hot dogs grilled to perfection, topped with key lime mayonaise, jalapenos, mango and spicy mustard. Even if you have already eaten dinner you can go have a hot dog for dessert! Garbo's is mainly known for their fish tacos, but the burgers and hot dogs looked and are pretty darn tasty! Discovered Garbo's Grill on the Food Networks Diners, Dives & Drive Ins! I wanted to see for myself how delicious Guy said their food was and I'm thankful I saw the episode the day before I roadtripped to Key West! I had the Umami Burger and enjoyed every bite of it. It came with a bag of chips as well. For my beverage I got Virgils Rootbeer, which I was happy about because I never see it at restaurants. Garbo's is a great place to have a meal, enjoy the breeze and relax. They share a space with a restaurant & you can buy food and drinks from both. The owner of the restaurant next to the truck was nice enough to bring out a water bowl for our dog. Love Garbo's and will definitely be coming back when I'm in the area. read more

Day 2 here in Key West and I'm so happy we rode our bikes to this place for lunch. Humid, hungry and thirsty we found this gem tucked away before the chaos of the main strip. It was early, so the place was basically oura save for a sweet couple having a few cold ones. I decided to try the shrimp in taco form, I was too shy to admit I did not know what Cayo-style meant but I gathered it is Cuban based meaning sweet and spicy e.g. mango and jalapeño! Delicious. I had one this way, and as you can see by the pictures they do not skimp on ze shrimp. 4-5 large ones line your taco and is laced with a sauce that is unlike any I've had. The Korean-style shrimp taco is decorated with just the right amount of sriracha to make your tongue dance as if it were on hot coals. THANKFULLY there is a bar right there! Hello hydration salvation. The bar is refreshing and casual. Vintage signs and scary big fish decorate the place but I got to say the coolest thing were the Coke machine and classic juke box. Bartender is friendly, to the point and gave us some good tips about the Key West. I learned to obtain a liquor license down here is nuts, so instead of a full bar they have an array of agave based drinks. Don't worry, there is alcohol in it I assure you, just only up to the legal limit they're allowed to sell---which is 24% lol You won't be sorry if that number doesn't scare you and you go for the agave sunrise---- yummy! The Umami burger was HUGE and hearty, came with chips which goes perfectly with one of their craft beer selections (there are many). Great, casual place for a kick off. I swear Yelp never does me wrong and I always end up in some truly unique and special spots. It was my first time in Key West and after a 4 hour drive from Fort Lauderdale, My girlfriend and I were starving. We have a friend that lives on the Island and she picked us up and took us to Duval Street which is famous for all their restaurants and bars. We had no idea what we wanted to eat, we really wanted sea food but everything looked so good! We were in one of those "I dont know what to eat, lets debate about this for 30 minutes and be miserable" moods. Pulled up good old Yelp and searched "seafood restaurant" near our current location. Garbo's Grill came up. I did not even check to see what kind of food it was, all I saw was 4.5 stars with over 450 reviews less than a tenth of a mile from where I was standing. Funny enough, it ended up being a food truck off a slow hidden street. But do not let this fool you, around 11AM this place was packed and there was a thirty minute wait for the food to come out after ordering. While we waited we learned it had been featured on the Food Channel. Seating you ask? There was not a lot. There was probably about 6 or 7 tables and they were all under shade. On the same lot they have a bar so If you want to cool down and have a drink while your food comes out, its a great place to be! Wanting to try something new I went for the Korean Bulgogi. This came with two tacos of Beef shortrib, napa cabbage, carrots, daikon, scallions, citrus soy dressing, sriracha. These tacos were a little messy but the flavors were excellent. The glaze on the steak had me literally licking my fingers when I was done. The sriracha was nice touch which gave the sauce this nice sweet and tangy hot balance. Yes, there was a bottle of sriracha on the table, and decided to add more to my tacos which left my lips burning but I did not care, it was good! I also swear ending up in a food truck taco place in Key West was purely coincidental even though my girlfriend thought I had planned it out! LOL. How could she complain though? She ended up having the Yum Yum Shrimp tacos which came with Shrimp with a mango, ginger, habenaro glaze served either cayo or korean sauce. She got one of each sauce and they were absolutely delicious. They too were generous portioned with huge pieces of shrimp on top. Her tacos were more messy than the Korean Bulgogis I had and also had a fiery kick to them. This place is a Key West must if you have never been there like myself. But then again, there are a lot of places in Key West that are "must got to". Make sure you come on an empty stomach because these are not your typical "bite sized gourmet tacos". These are your hungry jack you will be miserable when you are done eating meals! read more

Having notoriety from a show like Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives sets the bar pretty high for any establishment. It sets expectations that you'll have a life changing meal. So my life wasn't changed my Garbo's and I didn't have that special moment with my taco, but in hindsight I had a pretty darn good taco. I went with the Cayo Fish Taco. It consisted of fresh mahi mahi, red cabbage, mango, jalapeño, cilantro, onion, and Caribbean sauce. That's pretty much my ideal fish taco combination. You also need to keep in mind this is coming from a food truck. I know food trucks have gotten very gourmet, but they can only be so gourmet. My taco was pretty gourmet. Do yourself a favor and grab a drink from their neighboring establishment Grunt's. You'll have a perfect casual and enjoyable meal. If you want fresh fish, a quick meal and to eat someplace that's been on TV this is the place to go. I'm thinking without the hype, I still would have been pretty impressed with my meal on its on my own. read more

This is a great stop if you are in KW. Garbo's was on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives for their tacos. They are a cool retro food truck located in the back of Grunt's bar on Caroline street. Small bistro table seating under twinkling tree lights. Just order at the window grab a beer at Grunts and enjoy. Our local friends frequent this spot and brought us here a while back before they located to Caroline street. There might be a line but trust me It's worth the wait! If you know me, you know how much I love a great fish taco. I've had all kinds of fish tacos from the pacific north west, South Carolina, and now all the way down to the keys. Some experiences have been good, others not so great and a rare few just really hit it out of the park for me. Add Garbo's Grill to the list of amazing out of this world fish tacos. Then also add that there isn't anything not to love about this little key west food cart. The couple that owns it is awesome. Really nice, they talk to you like they've known you forever even if its the first meeting you. There looks to be just about something for everyone on the menu and they service the Mexican coke in bottles. So let's dive into the menu. From what I've heard the menu does change some what but here is what I saw: You can get a burrito or a taco (Fish, Shrimp or Korean BBQ Beef). They also offer quesadillas and a mango hot dog, and I forgot they have a jerk chicken option as well. Of course I was going for the fish tacos. These aren't just regular fish tacos. Garbo's put a little island spin on them by including mango and their home made Caribbean Sauce. The Cayo fish taco is made up of local Mahi Mahi, red cabbage, cilantro, onion, jalapenos, mango and cheese. topped off with their delicious Caribbean sauce. You bite into it and you get the taste of the quality mahi, the crunch for the cabbage, onion, spiciness from the jalapenos, and the mayo based sauce is spicy but acts as the binder to bring everything together. but what I loved was the mango which soothes you at the end and gives you a nice refreshment from the spicy. I would have never have thought to put a slab of mango on a fish taco but it works here and beautifully. This flavor combination is an A plus plus. If there is one problem I have with Garbo's grill its that they are not operating in my home town. :P This place is a must try for all fish taco lovers of all locations and walks of life. read more

Every time we visit Key West, this food truck is at the top of our list. Tucked away in a little hidden spot, it's one of those places you might not stumble upon unless you know where to look. They've got tables and chairs set up, so you can sit and enjoy your meal in the shade, which is a blessing in that Florida heat. The setup is simple but perfect--just good food, good vibes, and a place to kick back and take it all in. The Korean BBQ tacos are out of this world, with that rich, savory-sweet bulgogi flavor wrapped in a soft tortilla. Then there are the Cayo fish tacos--fresh, packed with flavor, and seasoned just right. No matter what you order, you can tell they take pride in what they serve. It's the kind of place that keeps you coming back, and for us, it's been four years running. One thing to keep in mind--watch out for the giant roosters roaming around! They strut around like they own the place, which, to be fair, they kind of do. It just adds to the whole Key West experience. Garbo's Grill is the place to hit up when you're in Key West. It's tucked behind Hank's Hair of the Dog Saloon. This laid-back food truck has been featured on Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives multiple times, and it totally lives up to the hype. I had the Kogi Dog and Korean BBQ tacos. Both were packed with flavor. The Kogi Dog is loaded with Korean BBQ beef, spicy mayo, and slaw. Every bite was rich, spicy, and insanely good. The tacos had that same tender beef with a sweet-savory glaze and fresh toppings that made them seriously crave-worthy. Bonus points: the whole spot is dog-friendly! The staff were super friendly, the service was quick, and the atmosphere is pure Key West chill. If you're looking for bold flavors, local charm, Garbo's Grill is a must. read more

Eli and Kenna Pancamo, or better know to the locals as Grande Cabeza and the Princess Buttercup run this amazing seafood truck that usually has lines going up and down the streets in the sunny Key West! Originally planning on opening up an brick and mortor restaurant, they decided that having a food cart was the way to go! You can't miss their signature Attack-Van, get in line and grab some of their famous menu items. Their Fish and Shrimp Tacos are amazing as well as their Fish Quesadillas. Garbo's was such a great experience! We stopped by after seeing it featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, and it totally lived up to the hype. I ordered the Yum Yum Shrimp Taco, super fresh shrimp and an incredible flavor profile. I also tried my friend's Korean BBQ Taco, which honestly stole the show. It was packed with tender, flavorful meat and so well-balanced. Even though it's a food truck, the service was excellent. THIS IS AN OUTDOOR FOOD STAND There, now I've got that off my chest --- This is one of the best food truck stands I've visited. Prices are reasonable by Key West standards. We loved the mahi-mahi tacos. The owner gave us corn tortillas from his private stash (they are not normally served to the regular customers). Came here for lunch. Made it early (11:30) and only had to wait 15 minutes. I had the Umami burger and it was cooked perfectly... juicy and flavorful. The only downside was the sangria. It tasted more like a berry drink with inexpensive wine... no fruit in the drink, just an orange wedge on the cup. Maybe it wasn't meant to be a true sangria... it just didn't do it for me. I would definitely consider going back if I was in town for lunch. read more

I hate to even post this because of all the other great reviews. But..... The burger was not hand pressed. It was a dense, preformed patty most likely taken from a box. They wouldn't cook it less than medium well which leads me to believe they may be precooked. The idea of the bacon, tomato and smoked Gouda was great and the flavor is the only reason I'm giving it 3 stars. Very disappointed in what I thought was a Key West landmark. read more

This place is a hidden gem! Best tacos I've ever had. Shaded. Live music. They have a water dispenser to fill your water bottles. DOG BOWLS:) even though we didn't have our dogs I loved that they had them around. Beautiful bathrooms. And again the food was out of this world good. Very fresh and flavorful! I recently decided to give Garbo's restaurant a try and called ahead for a pick-up order. My order was ready within 20 minutes. The interaction with the staff was super friendly. As for the food, it was pretty good! I'd especially recommend the shrimp tacos--they were packed with flavor and definitely hit the spot. Probably the best Mahi tacos Ive ever tasted! Most are drawn to the Korean bbq or the burger due to the popularity of DDD, but I was steered toward the fish with a little push from the cashier and boy was she right! Probably our favorite place on the island. Every person that we have come visit us, they always have to eat here. We don't know which is better the Korean beef or the shrimp burritos... A bit of a disappointment. Got the 3 tacos- the shrimp taco had two pieces of shrimp on it, wow. The fish taco had and a inch and a half piece of fish on it and the 3rd, could have used a little bit more beef on it- looked great but all 3 had red cabbage stuffed in it. I love this place. Small food track with a small simple menu. Everything is so fresh and delicious, it might take a minute to get your food sometimes but not a big deal, it so worth it. The is a bar right next to it so just sit, have a beer, listen to live music and enjoy a great meal. read more

On Saturday night, I ate a shrimp quesadilla here, and by Sunday morning I was violently sick. I had nonstop vomiting and severe liquid diarrhea for hours, couldn't keep down even tiny sips of water or Pedialyte, and the cramping became so intense I could barely stand or walk without help. Things got so bad that by Sunday evening I ended up in the emergency room due to extreme dehydration. I needed IV fluids, medications, and hours of treatment. I was vomiting bile, hyperventilating, extremely weak, and dealing with muscle tingling and cramping from how dehydrated my body became. What makes me the most angry is that food poisoning is NOT something minor, especially when seafood is involved. Situations like this can become life-threatening, and restaurants should understand the seriousness and responsibility that comes with serving food safely. Nobody should go out to eat and end up in the hospital less than 24 hours later. Now I'm left dealing with recovery, stress, and expensive medical bills from an experience that should never have happened in the first place. I genuinely hope this restaurant immediately takes a serious look at its food handling and safety practices before someone else goes through something even worse. Lastly, if it were up to me, this place should be shut down until they can guarantee proper food safety standards. I will also be looking into taking legal action because nobody should have to go through something like this from simply going out to eat.
