My friends and I found ourselves at Frita's after we tried a couple of restaurants that were too busy. And I'm so glad we did! The staff was extremely friendly, we were seated outside promptly, and there was some nice, gentle live music. There were a few drink options (no liquor) and we enjoyed. The food came out at a good time and it was the best food we've had so far. I got a cheese arepa with black beans. The arepa itself was unlike any I've had before and its texture was soft and had a gummier cornbread feel. The taste was incredible and the beans were cooked perfectly. Been wanting to come here all week and finally made it for our last meal on the way to the airport. Glad we did. Food I came specifically to try what they call the Cuban Burger. From the menu: "a beef, pork, and chorizo patty seasoned with Spanish spices, topped with onion, frita sauce, and crispy julienne potatoes." I added Manchego cheese to mine. We also ordered the beef and chicken empanadas and the street corn dip. It took a while for the food to arrive, but everything came out fresh, flavorful, and hot. The burger had an interesting texture, more like a sausage patty than a traditional hamburger. It was slightly drier than I would have preferred, but the flavor was good. I ended up using some of the street corn dip as extra sauce, which turned out to be a great combination. The empanadas were a good size and nicely baked. The flavor was very good, though the filling leaned a bit dry for my taste. The Street Corn Dip was very good. I not only ate with the supplied corn chips, but felt it was a good addition to my somewhat dry burger patty. Service There were only two servers covering the entire area. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Given the number of tables and limited staff, service felt a little spotty at times. That said, the servers didn't appear rushed or stressed. It may have just required a more relaxed pace and adjusted expectations on our part. Atmosphere Most of the seating is outdoors. We sat in a courtyard with umbrellas providing shade. Our table was near a window air conditioning unit that ran throughout the meal, but after a while it faded into the background. That day, two musicians were performing older ballads with guitars and a small drum set. It added a nice touch and created an enjoyable atmosphere. Glad we stopped by. FANTASTIC! I regularly visit Key West but this is my first time here. The service is outstanding, as is the food. My son is vegetarian and had an impossible burger with crispy julienne potatoes on a Cuban roll. He said it was delicious. I had tostone nachos which also were spectacular. I intend to come again before leaving this island. If you find yourself in Key West wanting Cuban food, this is the place to come to. Also, I've never seen a restaurant offer a "magic meal". A hidden gem right off of duval. We saw all the great reviews and came in for lunch. It is an outdoor seating picnic table laid back vibe. Menu includes burgers, tacos, sandwiches, yuka fries, plantanes etc. My husband had the Cuban sandwich, I had the steak tacos that came with 2 tacos salsa/side of guacamole we also got a side of fried plantanes. Everything was really good even better than expected. The reason for the 4/5 is just the price. Was a little pricy for the amount of food you get/outdoor environment. My coworker and I had just gotten off the water and were looking for a quick meal. We'd walked past Frita's many times and finally decided to stop in. We ordered the White Cuban, the Beef Tacos, and a side of Yuca Fries. Everything was delicious and packed with flavor. The sauces were especially flavorful and complemented the food perfectly. I also had the chance to chat with the owner for a bit, and it was clear how passionate she is about serving great food and taking care of her customers. Wow. I am truly still speechless from how delicious Frita's is. I got a GF arepa with pork and a side of maduros, and you could instantly tell that the food was fresh and authentic. You order at the window and can sit on the quaint patio or take to-go. We did have to wait a bit for our food, but we didn't mind because everything was made fresh and came out piping hot. Found out today the meaning of a Cuban Burger which consists of beef and pork with sauteed onions on Cuban bread served with shoestring potatoes. We stopped into Frita's Coffee Shop which was an interesting sight. The shop was in total disarray with cluttered clothing and a mish mosh of furniture (see pic to make your own decision). A wooden bar was visible but covered with various items. But I saw the espresso machine and ordered two shots from the barista. He did not know the origin of the beans although the blend was definitely dark roasted and tasty. Absolutely phenomenal. Out of our whole trip so far nothing has blown us away as much as the Frita burger. I really can't say much besides, get up from your hotel bed and go eat one of these. I cannot recommend this enough! It came with tostones, a side of cabbage, and salsas. Henry (I hope that's how you spell it) was awesome. The best hidden gem in Key West!!! Very affordable and a wide array of options on their menu. My boyfriend ordered their cuban sandwich (which we're told is a fan favorite) and absolutely loved it. He quite literally scarfed down the whole thing (and it was a big sandwhich). I ordered their birria tacos which were wonderful and very filling. They came with a great mango coleslaw too. It's a more casual spot (think plastic cutlery, water comes in the form of a disposable plastic water bottle, outdoor seating only at picnic tables), but the service is solid and the food is good. The winning dish we ordered ironically was just black beans with an arepa - the beans were immaculately seasoned and cooked. Cuban sandwich was also solid and we liked the homemade ice cream. This is a true gem on the island. My girlfriend and brother asked for a place to eat and I chose Frita's since Cuban food sounded great. We did not leave disappointed. We started with chips and guac and the guac was amazing! They put salsa verde in it which is a great addition. I ordered the original Frita which is a Cuban burger. I kid you not, I would fly back to Key West just for this burger. It was legitimately phenomenal. It was a mix of beef and pork and had a traditional tomato based sauce on it. You just have to try it to understand. My girlfriend ordered the rice and beans bowl with chicken. It was legit the best rice and beans bowl I've had. The plantains were amazing. The sauce they put on the bowl was amazing. My brother ordered the birria tacos and they were probably second best I've ever had. If you like birria, you'll like them. The service was very much on island time. It's more of a "it happens when it happens" kind of place. But it didn't take all that long so I can't really knock it much. There is one lady who cooks everything outside on the griddle. She put in the work and it showed. The ambiance is small hole in the wall spot. It looks very unassuming from the outside. But they have a little outdoor seating area. Be warned that chickens and roosters do roam around the island so they might roam near your table. They're harmless though. Frita's is the most eclectic, quirky eating experience in Key West, and we absolutely loved it. It was all outdoor seating, on benches, with cigar box paper towel holders, on uneven ground, with eclectic decorations like a Frida Kahlo picture to a superman mannequin in a phone booth. Let's say we got all the fried food groups : ) The fries were thin and crispy and delicious. The plantains were perfectly fried and it was quite a large serving for the price.
