Great Salsa, awesome Watermelon Margaritas. It was Taco Tuesday today, all of the Tacos are outstanding!

Karolina es spectacular. Our Waitress was Accommodating Professional and good Recommendations. The food was exceptional the snapper tacos were super fresh and perfectly cooked with an amazing cabbage(3 tacos) with side rice . Also the steak tostada was more of a steak nacho but very filling and delicious. Both large portions Only issue was the margaritas. Tonight's bartender 1 out of 5 stars. 0 for effort or knowledge. We ordered margaritas and they were Uber seeet. The skinny margarita was sweeter than a birthday cake. I've had great, good, decent, and imitation Hispanic food, and this place falls somewhere in the "decent" category. It's a good alternative to the local cuisine, which mostly consists of conch and key lime pie. Being originally from California made it tough for me to give this place a 5-star rating. Both of our dishes were absolutely drowning in cheese sauce. The salsa verde grilled beef burrito had potential but could've been better, and the Mexican lasagna was interesting but also left room for improvement. The banana enchilada, however, was a nice twist. The hint of caramel from the brown sugar worked well -- not overwhelmingly sweet, with a crunchy texture that made it enjoyable. Overall, it's a good change of pace if you're looking for something other than seafood or Cuban cuisine. read more

I only tried their chips and salsa, which was very good. Their salsa is a very good. They have appetizers on sale between 4 to 6 and we also got the queso fundido which was really. The server here is a younger gentleman that was super nice and attended with anything that we needed.. the energy here is very relaxed and laid-back very casual dressing. read more

I have been visiting this place for years and sadly it was the worst experience this time! The margaritas were bland and over salted, the food had NO flavor and was not authentic Mexican (in any way) and the salsa was weird (no distinct flavor but an ODD taste! We only ordered a table of appetizers-chips & salsa, guacamole and queso fundido. The guacamole was just a smashed avocado...nothing else, no salt or pepper..no cilantro or anything! The queso fundido was burnt on the bottom and had another funky taste (not flavor or savory) - hard to explain. Our service and server was good, George but the food lacked! Great place for Mexican food This was my second visit this year and it did not disappoint. I was alone, so they sat me at the bar. My bartender Todd was excellent. After I asked which beer was colder, bottle or draft, he said bottles and put several of my flavor on ice. I ordered the carne asada which is the best skirt steak I have eaten in the US. It is going to be hard to beat the steak I had in Brazil. The chips and salsa are also very good. I will return. read more

My daughter and I were looking for something delicious but not as loud and crazy as many places in Key west tend to be. We were definitely happy with our dinner here! The drinks were wonderful I had the frozen strawberry margaritas and my daughter had a mojito! I thoroughly enjoyed and quesadillas and my daughter thought her chicken and rice was wonderful... this was not a "menu" item but she is a rather picky eater and our server suggested this to her!! We wondered into this gem for happy hour. We had the best queso ever! The street corn, nachos and tuna tostadas were all delicious! Service was great until they got slammed for dinner. We had been here about 4 years ago and my partner loved it . We were happy to see that they are still here on Duval Street. I had the most amazing Carna Asada medium rare (spot on) . My partner had the best ground beef Chimichanga he has ever had! The ambiance is nice and can be busy but the servers are able to handle it. We picked Old Town Mexican Cafe for our spot for lunch out of all the other restaurants/bars in the long and alive Duval Street. They have an outdoor decorated seating area but the bar area is under a roof and another section towards the back is indoor. So you have options. It was a beautiful day out so we decided to sit in the outdoor area and they were able to accommodate all 10 of us. Be warned - You aren't allowed to split the check. And they charge an 18% service fee besides the additional tip. For drinks, we had the Passion Fruit Margarita $12.50 and also the Prickly Pear Margarita $12.50 and they were so good! And strong. I would definitely like to try other margaritas. For food, we ordered the Salsa Verde Grilled Chicken Burrito and we were able to share it as we didn't want to be too full. It was very tasty and cooked well. If you ask for hot sauce on the side, it will only enhance the flavors. Recommendations to improve to restaurant: Servers should be able to recommend specific items on the menu depending on what the person is looking for. I asked for recommendations on Margaritas since there were so many to pick from and was only told "they are all good". Well, that didn't help much. I found the food was a little pricey for what we got. And... I was hoping for a complimentary chips and salsa how we are usually used to getting in a Mexican restaurant but... we were sad this wasn't a part of their style. Great place to kick back with some Mexican food and margaritas in a classic Key West setting. Tried this place because when we walked by the night before it smelled AMAZING. Ordered the Pulled Pork Chimichanga, Shrimp Fajitas, and Beef Machaka Quesadilla. Shrimp fajitas were a hit, the waiter said they were known for their fajitas. Chimichanga was good, had to ask for extra cheese sauce for the top. Keep Walking! One star at best. Service was so awful--our iced teas were taken away half full when we ordered a second round, then brought back mixed up (mine was sweetened, his wasn't). (I got my husband's half drank tea...is that even legal?) Plus, weren't told we'd be charged again or we would have finished our first glass. The problem with this place is that they will arbitrarily cancel their "Taco Tuesday" specials and Happy Hour specials if there are enough people eating, it is near holiday, event, or if they think they can scam enough people into their restaurant at any point. The food is good, but the new management seems to be just money grabbing, and treat locals and regulars poorly. Their website lies about happy hours and taco deals. Shame, it used to be better. Best waitress in town but I forget her name. This is what I have been told, so this is here say. I've been told that the chef owner is the last private chef owner on the island. All the other places are part of a corporation or a restaurant group. After successfully opening several restaurants this is her latest (last?) One. We decided to venture to this place on Christmas night while we were staying in Key West for the week. Located on the main drag of Duval St, we expected it to be busy with hussle and bussle. We waited for about 15 minutes before we were seated. There really isn't anywhere to wait aside from standing out on the sidewalk in front of the place. As we waited, we watched the extremely SLOW service happening on the inside. The place wasn't even packed, many open tables, but it appeared perhaps they were short-staffed; or at least hoping that was the case and not the norm. We didn't have plans, so we were okay with the waits. We got seated and waited probably 5-10 minutes to be acknowledged by a server. We were served luke-warm tap water from a glass water decanter. It looked like it may have been from a refrigerator, but due to the high humidity, quickly became warm. Once we were acknowledged, we asked for ice for the water. My husband had a mojito and it was strong and well-made. My daughter and I stuck with the ice water. We were never offered refills. After the water delivery, we waited another 15minutes for the server to return for our order. Chips and salsa are not complimentary here, odd for a Mexican place, but we ordered some as we like to try different salsas. Due to the length of time it was taking for anything, we also ordered our meals with that. Another 10 minutes went by and we finally got the chips and salsa. Chips were warm and crunchy and the salsa was spicey! My husband loved it and my daughter and I decided to just munch on the plain chips. It took another 20-30 minutes for our main course to arrive. No one ever checked on us between all the wait times. We were amused looking around and watching the mayhem throughout the place as we saw frustrations from other tables about the experiences. My husband had carne asada and he said it was excellent! I have chicken fajitas and this taste great as well. We asked for a bean and cheese burrito for our daughter and they made it happen. We were ready to pick something else if it couldn't be made. She enjoyed her burrito and Spanish rice. The food was great! So to make a long post short, the server was kind and did well when she could attend to us. However, don't go here if you don't have a good hour + to kill or if you're put-off by the lack of attention. The food was on point, the rest was not. read more
