I found out that Garbo's was a place to get my hair cut through a certain non profit to donate my hair. I called twice to get information to book the appointment; like if I should wash my hair/dry but they told me 'no we will take care of you'. When I arrived, the girl that was to cut my hair did not understand the whole donation situation. I kept having to reexplain that I wanted to cut and donate 12-13 inches, but she was insisting and kept putting bands in my hair that was only measuring to 7 inches. I asked for it to be the inches I wanted cut and also that my hair was to be washed/dried before cutting... more confusion. I ended up explaining that I was not comfortable with having my hair cut there for donation and walked out. read more

I went in for just a trim and left with one half of my hair 1-2inch unevenly cut. I rarely get my hair cut, and really splurged over $50 on the cut. When I called to say I noticed it after the fact the receptionist did not act surprised and rebooked with me the manager. I am giving two stars instead of one because the manager did correct my hair without charge and was super nice! I was later informed there may be newer stylists working so I suggest requesting a tenured staff member if going in for hair services. read more

I went to Garbos this summer for an updo for a special event. The event was on a Sunday evening, so it was very difficult to find a hair stylist that was available, but when I saw Garbos would be open I decided to give them a try. I was hugely impressed with their easy-to-use online booking capability - it made it super easy to pick what service I needed (upstyle), the time, and the stylist. I did some research on yelp and other places to identify a stylist that was well reviewed for updos (Marissa), so I booked with her, got an email confirmation, and went on my merry way. Fast forward to the actual appointment a few weeks later, and my booking had been shifted from Marissa to Dominique without asking me. I got there and since it was the day of my event I did not have time to sort out what was happening, and figured I'd just cross my fingers. Well, unfortunately, Dominique's upstyle was much more severe than the inspiration photos I brought, and I was not happy with how it came out. That paired with the hefty $60 pricetag and changing me to another stylist without my permission, and it was a real disappointment. I won't be back. read more

We went to Garbos for styling our hair, there was a group of seven of us and it was for my nieces wedding. We had some teenage girls and a couple of older women they charged us $600 and nobody left with their hair styled correctly. The younger girls had curly hair and we asked for the stylist to straighten and re-curl their hair so they could have perfect curls and they left with their hair messy and not straighten properly. It was one of the worst experiences ever. I had to go home and redo everyone's hair and I end up being late for my own nieces wedding because it took me so much time to fix what the stylist had done at Garbos. No one cared how we looked or wanted to help address the bad situation that they put us in. I will never go to Garbos again for anything. the customer service was horrible and the stylists were just rushing us to try and get us out of the salon. read more

I wanted to plan a spa day with my best friend and my sister in law. Both my sister in law and I travelled from neighboring states to meet my friend who also had to drive an hour to meet us at the spa. I booked appointments for a 1 hour massage for my friend, a basic facial for me, and three standard pedicures for all of us. While my friend headed into her massage, I waited for about 25 minutes before I headed back to the desk to inquire why my facial wasn't starting though Laura, the aesthetist, had been paged twice. Finally, another employee went back and got her; when she arrived at the front, I realized she had been at the front desk earlier and didn't even bother to get me to start the facial. Once back in the facial room, she explained what she'd be doing and asked if I wanted a "customized" facial or the "express" facial that didn't include arm and hand massage and if I had seen the price list. I said I wanted the "express" facial, especially because I had the pedicure appointment and didn't want to be late as we were about half an hour late to begin, and that I had seen the price list prior to making the appointments. I never got any arm or hand massages, but she actually ended up telling the owner to charge me for the "customized" facial. The facial didn't even last an hour. Anyway, we went onto get pedicures, and during our pedicures and conversation about our own jobs, my friend inquired about how they salon employees are paid and whether they are independent contractors. The pedicurists let us know that they received a percentage of what we paid and that they are all regular employees of the salon, not independent contractors. It sounded like an hourly job with commission from the pedicurists' explanation. After the pedicures, I wanted to double check with the desk to ensure that they used our $300 SpaFinder gift certificate to cover what I had planned on being a $292 charge for all of our services. The front desk attendant was concerned about receiving the gift certificate and went to consult the spa owner who came to the front desk and questioned the validity of the Spa Finder certificate even though I had expressly asked about using this before I made the service appointments. The owner stated that she was used to receiving gift cards but not the gift certificate that Spa Finder allows a recipient to print. The owner took my phone number and added up what the service providers had written on slips of paper and told me that we owed an additional $29 on top of the $300 that was covered by the gift certificate. The owner said that the pricelist I was provided only listed basic service prices and that every service provider charged what they thought they were worth, which is not what the pedicurists, who did charge us each differently, stated during the pedicure. I never signed any receipt as I disagree with the charges, but sure enough, the $29 was taken out of my account from Garbo's. I called Garbo's on the following Monday and was told that I need to speak with the owner if I have an issue with the charges, but that she wasn't available. I will never go back. This experience was far from relaxing. read more

After having a horrible experience at UA nails, I immediately made an appointment at Garbos for a polish change on my toes and a manicure. When I arrived I was escorted to the nail room, and helped by Amie. She did a fantastic job and was very informative about then products that Garbos uses. The salon was super clean. The nail polish bottles were new and the latest line of OPI colors. Garbos did a great job, and I would highly recommend this place!! read more

The manicure did not include paraffin and they didn't scrub my hands and arms and have me rinse like they do in New England. Imagine my surprise when I got to the register and what would be $12 in CT was $32. I wore my hair long for years, and I was petrified to think how I would look if I got one of those boring, every-guy, 9 to 5, haircuts. Some might have said that I was addicted to the 80's hair band look, but those were people who simply didn't age as well as I had. One day, on a whim, I decided that maybe I should let go of the past and I gave Curtis carte blanche, and he did such a good job, that I never looked back. Everyone tells me that he did a great job of highlighting the good things and not making my hairstyle look run-of-the-mill and boring. The salon seems a bit pricey to me, but then I used to be one of those tight-wads that thought it was crazy to spend money on haircuts. I would frequent Master Cuts and Great Clips and other places where the beauty school graduates cut their teeth and make their mistakes before they finally figure out what the heck they're doing. Most of the stylists seem to be pretty stylish, and I've seen lots of "hip looks". There are probably trendier and more upscale places, but because of Curtis and the job he did for me, I won't consider going anywhere else for a long time read more

First try and it was excellent. I had Franco get my haircut and hairstyle done. He did exactly as I told him to to trim my hair. He didn't "trim" like cutting inches off of my hair but actually trimmed my hair! Very satisfied. Kylie Black is a freaking saint. I went to her 2 days after having a terrible dying experience at another salon. She really took her time and didn't even use foils while fixing it so she could really pay attention and put the color exactly where it needed to go. It's 100x better and I've gotten so many compliments on it. Oh and not to mention when you ask her to TRIM your hair she will actually trim it and not just automatically chop a couple inches off. They were great enough to get me in rather quickly once things opened up. I was a new customer, having just moved back. I did go there several years ago and was hoping for the same great service. The person that cut my hair was great, my cut looks ok, not as good as I hoped given how much the cut cost me. What prevents me from giving them a better rating is the surcharge they charged me when I went to pay. I know $4 is not a big deal, but they were not transparent about it. They did not tell me about until after they were done. So with an overpriced cut, surcharge, and tip I got out of there $60 lighter for a simple cut. I won't be back. Polite staff, however probably one of the worst haircuts I ever got. I didn't want to be rude so I didn't say anything to the stylist I knew my mom could fix what had been done. My sides were destroyed, and I'm a male boy who just wanted a 1 to a 2 fade, and she messed that up. In fact, right after I had gotten up from the chair I regretted walking in the store. The place was pretty dead and I still ended up waiting 45 minutes for my appointment. Worst of all, the haircut was terrible. I need to get it fixed when I get home. Garbo's at Regency is my secondary salon when I cannot get into Panache Day Spa. I always ask for Amy. She is friendly and does great color work!! Jill at the front desk is so friendly and helpful. Garbo's has the comfiest shampoo chairs. I am both big and tall and could sleep in those chairs. Only reason I did not give 5 stars is because if Amy is busy, I have always had to slouch in the styling chair because of my height and the chairs not going down lower which means I leave with an achy lower back.
