I kind of struggle with the rating here. The big plus is price, my daughter got her hair highlighted for $65, my regular salon would be $140. But...it took over 4.5 hours, she didn't get a cut and we left with wet hair because it was taking so long. I came to Capitol to get my hair washed and styled since I recently had wrist surgery and washing it myself is difficult. I went to Aleia and she was fantastic! She showed/explained each product before using it, she was very thorough and paid close attention to detail. She also curled my hair beautifully and I walked out absolutely loving my hair! This review is for lash extensions only. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My niece and I went in for lash extensions. We both wanted hybrid lashes. We made it clear when booking the appointments.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was only 1 lash student/tech available, so our appointments were back to back.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I went 2nd. When my niece came out I thought she had asked for classic once she got in the room with the tech, but then after my lashes were done, I found out that was not the case, it's just what she "ended up with". [[HIGHLIGHT]]The lash tech was really nice, she made conversation, during which I found out that she already had received her lash "cert", but because she was still a student for other service lines, she was able to continue to provide lash service through the school.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I would like to note, with the above being said, the rest of this review is not a reflection of the student (and therefore I will not mention her name here), but rather the instructor, curriculum and quality of the products that are used at the school. I have nothing but well wishes for the student and her future. The appointment was scheduled 3 hours for each of us, and it took all of the 3 hours that was scheduled for these lashes. They should have been the BEST set anyone has ever experienced, but they were not. When the tech was taping down the bottom lashes, she used about 7 layers of tape. The lash fan extensions were glued to multiple lashes, the individual lashes were ok. The amount of total individual lashes and fans were completely insufficient for a hybrid set. I had less than 12 fans on each eye, 2/3rds of my lashes had no extensions on them. The lashes that had fans them had so much glue that it hurt to blink, they were rough to the touch and hurt to clean them. The tech was a little heavy handed on the eyes as well. Again, I don't blame the tech, even though she had her cert, she was taught and supervised in a way that made all of this a "standard" of service and acceptable to her as the student. If the school considers what I received a "standard hybrid set", then they should definitely present pictures of their translation of a classic, a hybrid and a volume set of lashes either on the website, and/or when the client arrives and is communicating with the tech what type of lashes they want, so there is clarity of the expectation for both the student and the customer. I found overall the customer service we experienced was friendly, but the outcome was not acceptable and after 3 hours, I was tired of laying there with my eyes closed and my back hurt so bad from laying on a flat hard surface that I wasn't even willing to mention how skimpy the lashes look because I physically could not lay there any longer. The pictures I have included were taken the same day as the appointment. If this had been a classic set, it would have still been an insufficient amount of lashes. Again, these pictures are taken within a couple hours of the appointment, and it looks like I need a fill. I hope the school looks at this review and takes it into consideration for the curriculum in the future. I unfortunately will not be coming back to the school for lash extensions... probably not for other services either... which is unfortunate because having recently moved to the Omaha area, I was hoping to find students for different services and be able to follow them into their professional careers as a client. :( read more

I am thoroughly embarrassed by the state of my hair after leaving an appointment at Capitol Beauty School. I came in wanting the entirety of my hair lightened. I have done this before in the past, and I showed the student and the supervisor my inspo photo, being my hair but from a few months earlier. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The supervisor told me I booked the wrong appointment and changed me to a "partial highlight" instead of "all over color."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Now, I am not a hair stylist, so I didn't argue with her as I assumed my inspo photos spoke for themselves in what I wanted done. In hindsight, I should have stood up for myself more. The appointment took 4 hours, and I was there with my student after the business was closed. The supervisor that had been working with us had left for the day, and I didn't see another supervisor before I left. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The student was kind, but she moved so slow. It was a really frustrating experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The toner did not stay in my hair long enough or hit all of my hair as majority of my head is brassy and yellow when I asked for specifically cooler tones. There was absolutely no attempt to even blend my root. They didn't touch the back of my head resulting in a stark contrast leaving me unable to wear my hair in certain styles. Just a total disaster. I got home and couldn't believe what I saw. In tears, I purchased purple shampoo in an attempt to help not look this way. That didn't help much. I decided it was worth it to ask for a refund from the school. In an e-mail with the CEO of Capitol Beauty School CC'd, Capitol denied me a redo service or a refund as they said per their protocol they cannot help me as I tried to fix it myself afterward by applying purple shampoo. This is just insane to me. Them blaming this outcome on me applying purple shampoo is hard to put words to. And their CEO was on board with this response. [[HIGHLIGHT]]What absolutely horrible customer service in an industry that requires quality customer care for success.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I am so sad by this experience for so many reasons. There's no way anyone would find this completed product as up to standards or expectations. I put my hard earned money down to get a result that was no where near what I left with. The response from Capitol was laughable and they proved to be a company I will never work with or recommend to anyone for any service. Do yourself a favor and find a different salon to work with. I am bummed I have to spend more money to get this fixed at a different, professional salon, but I am embarrassed to be out in public like this. The first photos are what I asked for. I have been going to Capitol for years (haircuts, prom hair, etc.). I find the service provided by their students is super hit or miss. Have never had issue with waxing for facials with their staff, but haircuts I haven't always been please with. My most recent experience-I waited in the waiting area for 30 minutes before being helped. Not a great way to start off the appointment, right? So without prompting the receptionist took 20% of my total for my extended wait which I thought was very helpful and kind. They do go out of their way to correct situations if they have the ability to do so which I value a lot. I came in for a balayage which on my booking was told it could take around 4 hours. I planned for that amount of time, my person took 5 1/2 hours total and they didn't blend my highlights well. I was so tired that I didn't end up sharing how I felt. Some of the other technicians would shout across the chairs frequently which made me not love the environment, but part of that is unavoidable when you are in an open setting like this large scale salon. I came in for a balayage and trim yesterday. My stylist Isobel did a phenomenal job. She listened and asked LOTS of questions to make sure she understood exactly what I wanted. She added babylights to the list as well. Isobel nailed it. My hair came out with subtle balayage, which added lots of dimension. The babylights frame my face. The tone is excellent - nice and cool. She did a great job of shaping up my hair by adding long layers. I'm so happy with the results. Overall I enjoyed my experience at Capitol school. My mother has been going there for all kinds of services for years, and I got my haircut there growing up. Last week I went in to Capitol for a facial. The facial cost $40 and was just a little over an hour. The student who did my facial was pretty good. He was a bit awkward, and should have created a more comfortable introduction by using small talk and displaying warm comfortable body language. He seemed very nervous. Once we begin the service, however, he did pretty well. His massage and application techniques were good, and he was very knowledgeable about the products. The facial consisted of two masks one hot and one cold, several mini massages, a scrub, an exfoliation, and some circulation treatments. The instructor performed the extractions. And of course, it's hard to beat a $40 facial these days. Even though it was a student, I felt like it was still a great experience. The salon and service areas are clean and modern. They have good products, and although they do recommend specific things for your skin, they don't go overboard with the sales pitch. I'll be back! read more

I went to Capitol for a facial and manicure. The facial was ok but their website states that a facial includes a massaging of the neck, shoulders, decollete, hands and arms. I did not receive any of that. Mostly I felt like my facial was just some steam, a slathering on of several products, and that was about it. The manicure was pretty awful. First, the room they use for manis/pedis is so sterile-feeling. Very uninviting. Then the actual manicure was pathetic. She used a dab of exfoliant on my hands, barely enough for just 1 hand and also just a dab of lotion. And definitely no massage....it was quickly rubbed in. Then the polish was done worse than if I had done it myself, and I stink at painting my own nails. I would definitely never plan to get any of their nail services there again. I don't know if this student was lazy or just didn't know what she really should be doing but I felt pretty cheated on the services I received. read more

I just went over this past weekend and I was less than impressed. My stylist was friendly enough but she really cut some corners. She colored my hair and said using foil is optional and chose not to do it. Was cool with that until I found my chin and neck to be the same color as the dye. One of the instructors caught it and told her and she came running over to say everything is done. She used some product to get the dye off my face which only kind of worked. The haircut itself was fine. It's the cutting corners and walking out with big splotches on my face that wasn't cool. read more

It has been an interesting situation with this establishment. I email them on a Sunday to make an app and expected an email back on Monday, I received the email stating that my original request wasn't available and was given options which was fine. I email right away to schedule for one of the options given and I receive another email stating that, that option wasn't available either.....I asked what was open and never heard back. I didn't have communication with them again until Thursday evening and that was because I called them. I get an app set up for the next day and I receive and phone call a few hours before my app stating that they have someone leaving and "I need to come in at 5 or reschedule". It's more work than worth the savings in my opinion. The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is because the receptionist I talked to on Thur was really nice. read more

I attend Capitol & graduated from Capitol '09-'10. I was actually at the previous location and then finished out at the new one. It is such a beautiful school. The space is very inviting and easy to walk through. The front desk has always been very friendly to students and guests alike. Instructors are always around to assist & further the knowledge of the students. If you need your hair done and you're on a budget I highly recommend visiting Capitol. They are full service and the students take great care of their guests! Just a side note; I want to thank everyone who gets services done here. While I appreciate the owner responding to my review, I want to make sure to let her know that there were NOT 'multiple attempts to offer me a complimentary redo service, but I declined'. The first person I spoke with said the policy is not to provide refunds. The second said the same thing, but she would check with the instructor and they MAY be able to fix my color (once he provided his input of the situation). That was when he contacted me and said that he and the stylist both told me the price would be more which is a LIE. I don't appreciate being told that I was informed about the price increase when I know for a fact I was not and now to see the response to my review being yet another lie further solidifies my decision to never come back. I may just be one person and might not make a difference to your business, but I hope that some people will reconsider getting services here based on my experience. And as far as being satisfied with my hair when I left, as I said in my review, I simply wanted out of there since it was overcrowded and I had already been there for 2 hours (and I told my stylist it was 'ok/fine' when I left and the only reason I tipped her is because she was nice). I have had a few great experienceces there and some not so great ones, too. Tonight, I had a 4 p.m. appointment with Kayla Hopp. I was 5 minutes away and I got a call that she just walked out the door and they would work me in with another stylist. It was a lovely 58 degree day in December, so all I could think was she wanted to leave early. I found this highly unprofessional! I tried to be okay with it. I got there and waited 15 minutes for the back-up stylist to come out and get me, but my anxiety and frustration got the better of me so I left. I called them 15 minutes later to apologize and they hadn't even noticed that I left. I guess if I had stayed I would have been waiting all that time. So, I am facing Christmas with bad hair and an even worse mood. I am definitely not happy about how things went today. read more

First off, you're paying for a high schooler to fk up your hair and have an "instructor" come in and shape it for you for 2 min max then they leave... but the main reason why I won't go to this place is because it's not professional AT ALL. I'm close to 30 and I had a high school girl trash talk me as I was walking out from getting my hair cut... Imagine that, paying $ for a haircut and you don't even get that but you also are having these sassy high schoolers who sit in groups talk trash about clients.. I am very skeptical about going to a new salon, or letting anyone touch my hair in general.. but wanted to try capitol because I've heard great things about it... and so glad I went!
