I really want to love this place. I've come multiple times in hopes that things will be different but I continue to be disappointed. The concept is great. Local, healthy food. Everyone wants that.. but the execution and management of the restaurant itself is really lacking. You get to the restaurant and it's always busy. They are great at marketing themselves on social media and the crowds of people make that apparent. Twice now I have come here and there is zero hand soap in the restroom, last time I came there was a full pump and a backup in sight, I thought this was an issue they resolved, today the hand soap is almost all water, no soap. How unsanitary to think of how many people aren't properly washing their hands. Twice I have ordered breakfast plates. Both say two eggs.. The protein plate I got had one, the egg BLT I got barely one egg, sliced into wedges spread across two half's of the sandwich. They have a utensils dispenser but no one could get the utensils out.. multiple people trying to get them out and when brought to the attention of the manager she laughed and explained it's been giving them issues and they don't know why.. but then just walked away and left it there. In town for the week and was looking for a staple healthy place to get my smoothies and things I typically eat. You forget how hard it is to find truly healthy food out, as most places that say they are "healthy", aren't. Stumbled upon this place on TikTok of all places, and after reading about the establishment and the menu, I knew we had to go. I'm not sure where the negative reviews are coming from because they seem like user error (people thinking it's a huge sit-down place, people complaining about prices when they are listed on the menu on their website and comparable to the rest of the restaurants out there) and as for the people posting that the food and drinks were bland, I have to disagree. The place is cute, quaint, clean and fresh. There are multiple tables outside to dine at, as well as multiple tables inside and a small bar-seating area. For a visual, it looks like a small market with cafe tables to dine at. I will agree that the market area and section to order is a little tight, but if you make a line in the market and around to order, it's not bad and it gives you time to look in their cases at all they have to offer (which is a lot). The staff is EXTREMELY friendly and considerate. Our first time in the cashier gave great recommendations from the menu and was very warm. The second day we visited, one of the owners saw me waiting for my order and brought everything out to my table for me (this is a pay and grab your order when they call you, so like went out of his way.) Now into the food. I have never in my life drank coffee without some form of sweetener in it. I have tried lol. I have cut back on sugar in others ways but some things like coffee I just haven't been able to cut it out. I ordered an iced coffee from here (which is all organic btw), and ordered it with almond milk. I figured I would add my owner sweetener at the bar, but unfortunately they only had stevia and Splenda which I don't care for, so in my time of need for caffeine I said I'll drink it without. Don't know what coffee they use but OMG, I ENJOYED it without any sweetener. Like, it was a true miracle/ my husband stared at me with his jaw on the floor because he couldn't believe it. So, there's that. I also had the strawberry glow smoothie and it was delicious. People saying it's bland and expensive- 1. there's a difference between bland and full of sugar syrups, and 2. As someone from Buffalo, one of the most cheap and affordable places to live, our locally owned smoothie places charge the same amount so wouldn't say this was outrageously priced, by any means. We also had the veggie egg bites, bagel sandwich, breakfast burrito, buffalo chicken wraps and some of their chocolate chip cookies and banana oat muffins. *Chef's kiss* They were SO good. My husband, myself,and our children all enjoyed them and my children have been begging for more. Everything tastes so fresh, is made to order and is customizable to your needs. So many options for different dietary restrictions too. Sad that I found this place halfway through our trip, but happy that we found a spot to be our usual when we are in town. Beyond disappointed in Garden Butcher. I wanted to like this place, but I can't say anything good about my experience. The espresso had a watery consistency and tasted burned, and whatever oat milk they used was obviously expired because it was powdery in its consistency. Additionally, I ordered what had to be the simplest dish on the menu- the protein plate- which they completely forgot about. I gently reminded them after 30 minutes and was told they were still working on it. Strange, because it's two slices of turkey bacon, a scrambled egg, an avocado and a piece of toast, but ok. I patiently waited for another 30 minutes. The entire clientele had been served at this point, including all takeout orders, and I still didn't have my food. I asked at the counter and was farmed out to another server who also didn't know and pointed me towards someone else who ignored me and vanished in the back. I then went back to the counter to ask for my money back and was told she couldn't do that and she'd have to ask. She also then vanished to the back. I've worked in the food service industry and with customers my entire life- this isn't how it's done. Even a subtle acknowledgement or nod to let me know someone was looking into it would've been better than being flat out ignored. After 1hour and 15 minutes with no food, I gave up and left. TL;DR The Boca food scene isn't great, but this place is downright disappointing. Atmosphere? Small and chaotic even when there are few people in the space. Service? Essentially non existent. Price? If you're expecting Erewhon, you're on the right track except when you spend money at Erewhon, you typically get what you paid for and enjoy it. Quality of food? What I can tell you is that the coffee was terrible. I know coffee, and it was downright bad. Sour shots, and old oat milk. I'll never get to tell you about the protein plate because I guess they were too busy hunting the turkey, feeding the sourdough starter, and waiting for the chicken to lay an egg, and I didn't have an entire day to wait. I ordered the Caesar salad my daughter ordered the strawberry glow smoothie. My expectation was that we would sit down and have a nice casual lunch and dine in . We frequently eat at Pura Vida and had the expectation of a similar experience based on the price point and menu offerings. ... My daughters smoothie came out within 10 minutes. I waited an additional 20 minutes for ( no one in line.. not crowded) for my Caesar salad. When they called my name... (You have to go to the counter to pick up your food it's takeout... no table service ) I was extremely disappointed to see the presentation of the salad!! it was the same exact one that I could've grabbed on the way in "to go"in the refrigerator!!! I was expecting more. A lot of lettuce and a plastic container $16.95. Pricey for a takeout container of lettuce. I didn't eat the salad there because there was no way to toss the ingredients in the container provided. On a positive note, I took the salad home, chopped the lettuce and the ingredients added my own avocado, fresh grated Parm cheese and tossed with the homemade dressing from the restaurant. The dressing was delicious. I think that this place is great if you don't mind paying the high prices and you need to pick up something to go when traveling or on the road and want a healthy option.
