Grew up going to Garden Catering in Port Chester so I've always been happy to be able to get to this location in New Haven. Super quick and convenient, especially when I'm trying to make the train! My go-to order is simple. A special, which comes with nuggets and fries, seasoning on the side with honey mustard. There are times when the fries are soggy but besides that everything is great. I have tried their cauliflower nuggets and they have a great flavor I just wish they weren't so oily. If the cauliflower nuggets weren't so oily I'd probably prefer them over the chicken. The worst part of this place is the fumble with online deliveries, but if you go in person, they PROBABLY and most likely won't mess your order up and this place is good, it's like a comfort step up from Chic Fil A. The nuggets while of good quality chicken and in larger chunks were overdone and tough. I also tried the cones and the corn fritters. The cones were pretty flavorless cones of mashed potato deep fried and the corn fritters were pretty tasty. The order came with honey mustard that was gelatinous and spice on the side?? I ordered food from here since the ran a promotion. After an hour of waiting, and my delivery time kept changing - they cancelled my order. No call, no explanation. I called and couldn't get through to a manger. I get I am one customer, but treat me with respect. Lousy service, lousy way to do business. Looks like management reads these reviews so maybe look into keep people waiting and cancelling. I'd look elsewhere for service where they reliable fill your request or at a minimum pick up the phone when they keep you waiting for so long. I tried this again...and once again I wait 35 mins. Ive went to this place a couple of times, but somthing I can definitely come to conclusion is that when ordering mains here my food consistantly terrible, following trends like chicken not fully cooked in the middle, to just being outright too tough and overcooked. Today my chicken sandwich I ordered came with squishy, watery spoiled lettuce it seemed, had the texture of eating wet rubber. Its examples like this is a reason why I wouldn't necessarily reccomend buying chicken here. Although I gotta say the sides here are great, the seasoning for the fries is mouthwatering, and the jalapeno mac n cheese bites are to die for. Got a breakfast sandwich which was below average and mostly all roll and also got an order of chicken nuggets and fries that came with a can of soda. Expensive for what you get. I won't get breakfast sandwiches here anymore. This location was out of half of the sauce flavors as well as water bottles. I guess there's no soda fountain so all you could get are a can or bottle. The place has two tiny tables and some bar seating which could sit about 6 people in the entire restaurant and it's otherwise empty open space. Not welcoming at all. Not meant to eat there for sure. However, the accuracy of getting exactly what I order is very disappointing. I've ordered the Garden Club 3 times now, and each time it did not include bacon. Been coming here since the '80's starting with Old Greenwich, then Stamford, then Fairfield, now New Haven. Something happened over the last 4 years to the nuggets. They always used to be perfect. Somewhere along the line it feels like someone added 1 minute of cook time to all of the nuggets at all the locations. I haven't had one that wasn't bone-dry in forever. I ordered their buffalo wrap with tomato, lettuce, and ranch through UberEats. I asked my uber driver to confirm there was ranch in the bag or at least on the sandwich when they hand him the bag. When my driver came he told me he asked about the ranch several times since the bag felt like it only had the sandwich in it, if there was ranch in the bag or on the sandwich. He said they told him there was ranch in the bag, but he didn't believe them. Upon opening the sandwich, not only was there no ranch, it wasn't even buffalo chicken. The nuggets at this place are INCREDIBLE!!! I genuinely eat here once a week for my fried chicken fix. Their nuggets are out of this world, REAL high quality chicken. The pieces are so big that they shouldn't even be called nuggets, they are more like chicken cubes. Do yourself a favor and be sure you order your nuggets and fries meal WITH SEASONING! After many years here, Garden catering was what made me realize that New Haven actually makes you depressed. The food arrived with no flavor, no seasoning, and no condiments whatsoever. The chicken and fries were placed in a paper bag, not even in a container of any sort. It literally tasted like I was chewing on a raw potato I just picked out from the dirt in my grandpa's ranch in Taiwan, and the nugget tasted like a poor chicken crying out loud for dying in vain only to be made into a terrible, flavorless, and unexciting piece of rubber. If I could give this place a negative star review, I would. This place is truly a recipe for sadness and crippling alcoholism. I want to give credit to the team working there tonight 10/24/20 7:10pm for doing what they can at the pace suitable for them during a pandemic. They were working very hard and I can't imagine how overwhelming it must be to have to make food for people from multiple channels including in person orders, orders from uber eats and grub hub. I wish I had cash so I could have left a tip, but I don't carry cash often. Actually nuggets doesn't even seem like a fair label for these big delicious chunks of fried chicken breast. Whatever you call them, try them with the Buffalo or BBQ sauce! The chicken is perfection, and the milkshakes are great too, but the fries did leave something to be desired,so you might want to skip them and leave room for more chicken! The hype this place puts out is incredible: the food and service, not so much. I got a wrap. The chicken tasted stale and re-heated. It didn't have the sauce I asked for. Heck, it didn't even have the ingredients it was supposed to have. "Bacon, lettuce, tomato, and ranch" turned out to be tater tots, a dab of cheese, and some kind of sweet sauce. (I had asked for buffalo.) Maybe I'd be okay with stale chicken if my order weren't missing four of the four signature ingredients. Oh: I was the only customer in the store.
