Dr. Martinez performed a very thorough eye exam for me, my first in over five years. I'm moving out of RI again, but wanted to have my vision checked prior. Small print is beginning to blur, but Walgreen's magnified glasses seem to work okay. Dr. Martinez is friendly and knowledgeable, as was the woman who performed the primary test. Everything was explained to me, and I left with all of my questions answered except why I have chameleon eyes; I'm often told they change color depending on my mood. read more

I would not recommend this place at all. I called before my appt to see if they accepted my insurance and they told me yes. I get there and they say that vision plan wasn't accepted but my medical plan was. that was a lie and I was charged a full rate. also the place is in a basement and there is no WiFi at all and good luck if your phone has any service. I would not recommend this place at all. I called in advance hoping that they would be honest and not lead me to believe that i was all set. read more

I am highly disappointed with my recent visit. When I checked in, I wasn't informed that the optometrist was behind schedule.I ended up sitting in the waiting room for over 25 minutes before I went back to the receptionist desk to ask what the hold-up was.When I was finally called to the back I waited an additional 20 minutes before I just got up and walked out. The lack of communication is unacceptable. Better transparency and updates are needed for a more satisfactory experience. Will not be returning and I don't recommend this office. read more

My family has been patients of this center over the past 42 years under the wonderful care of the Late Dr. Deruosi. We loved him and miss him. Since his death our experiences have been very poor. We have had poor exams with misdiagnosis of our issues. I went in for a recheck of my issues and said I was having double vision and clarity issues. This was an unnecessary expense for a new prescription for lenses. Problems continued. I went to another Dr. at a different office and the degree of exams and service was dramatically improved. What I needed was called a prism. This was not found by Dr. Child and again I have to pay for new glasses lenses. Very disappointed and no apology given. read more

Impersonal, curt staff. I desperately needed to get an eye exam and was hoping to establish a long term relationship with an optometrist. A good friend of mine, a long time patron of Garden City EyeCare, recommended them to me. She raved about the doctors and said they were very good. Unfortunately, I cannot attest to that since the only experience I had with the center was negative. When I initially called to schedule an eye exam as a new patient I was told the first time any of the doctors could see me would be 4 months out. Disappointed, I still understood this is not uncommon with doctors appointments, so I willingly scheduled. As time passed and my eyes seemed to be bothering me more and more, I decided on a whim, to call around to other optometrists in the area who got rave reviews. Surprisingly, I was lucky enough to find one who could get me in the next day! Consequently, I went with the new appointment and called to cancel the one with Garden City (this was after already waiting 3 months). I called today and when the phone was answered I was immediately put on hold for 3 minutes at which time another person answered the line and immediately put me on hold ANOTHER 4 minutes! When I was finally helped, I was treated like I had inconvenienced them. Now, I cannot attest to the doctors and their capabilities, but unless you want to deal with an organization that already seems to have too many patients for their own good and who are impersonal and curt, do not go to Garden City Eyecare. read more

I come here for my yearly checkups and they are always great. Last year when I was trying to figure out which contacts to switch to Dr. Child gave me sample after sample until I found one that was right for me. He also took into account which brand had the best rebate at the time which was appreciated. It's always been a great experience, but they excelled the other day when I felt like had something in my eye and was easily able to get a same day appointment. And even though it wasn't red and Dr. Martinez couldn't find anything initially, he kept looking and eventually found something. I so appreciate his perseverance for the health of my eye! Garden City Eye Care is adequate. The doctors are professional, the exams are as expected, the non-reception staff are professional and on-point. I feel their push to see contacts to be a bit of a hard sell, and I was advised to return AFTER my appointment to obtain my scripts, as I could not walk out with an eye glass script. As someone who only needs to see my eye doctor one time per year, this was an annoyance. I opted to wait until the staff got my script signed before leaving, but again, this seemed tied into their retail sales. If I ordered my frames from them, I would not have to wait. Again, hard sell. The reception staff could benefit from improved customer service training, specifically in address customers who are standing in front of them. A short nod, a smile, a short 'I'll be with you' is better than three people all staring at their computer screens and no acknowledgment. It is sloppy. I get they have other duties that aren't the customer in front of them, but a simple greeting is polite. I called for my contacts order, after not even knowing IF anyone placed an order, at 1530 (3:30p) on Friday and was told they 'came in this AM' (on a Friday), and was told 'a text' went out to me to let me know they were in. I did not receive a text, but at 1628 p (4:28p) I did get an automated call. I found that to be petty, as the office closed at 1600. The office is okay, the service is okay, literally nothing stands out to recommend GC Eye as a great place to do business. I feel like a dollar sign when I walk in, a bill that will need to be paid, a service to perform. I want to feel like a person. read more
